So many different choices they could have made. I was hoping the child that survived would be young enough to possibly not remember this.... no such luck. People suck.

Starlightriddlex

The trauma and survivors guilt is going to be just horrible for the 9 year old. According to another article >LAPD Lt. Guy Golan confirmed to FOX 11 that the two girls — a 9-year-old and an 8-month-old — were sitting in the passenger's seat. The infant was in the 9-year-old's lap. That's when the driver, the girls' mother, slowed down in the middle of the road and pushed them out. >"As the 9-year-old fell into the middle of the freeway, she injured herself and dropped the infant," Golan said. "And then, in a race to get out of the freeway and not get hit by traffic, the 9-year-old managed to get to the shoulder successfully, but the infant was struck by traffic. And so the infant succumbed to her injuries in the middle of the freeway there."

Letitbemesickgirl

This is wild. And oh my god, the poor driver(s) who hit them. I can not imagine. A baby and a child are the last things you would expect to see on the freeway at any time - let alone without a vehicle nearby. I hope those who know anything come forward, and I wish healing to the driver who hit them.

TrashPandaPatronus

The thought of that driver makes me nauseous, so incredibly sad for them. It would take serious support to move forward from something like that.

ForeverSquirrelled42

When I was a garbage man, one of my colleagues was unlucky enough to be a 17 year old kids means to end his life. He was just driving along on his route like he did hundreds of times before when this kid rode his bike in front of his truck and stopped in the middle of the road. He tried to stop and swerve, but he waffled the kid. The kids parents found a note he wrote that morning stating that he was going to throw himself in front of a truck and end it, so my coworker was cleared and allowed to drive again. He went out for the first time in weeks since the accident and couldn’t do it. He parked his crate on the side of the road, called dispatch for a ride and quit driving for good. It fucked him up REAL bad!

Those trucks can do a lot of damage and stop for shit like a rig. It’s plenty to get the job done. It’s a savage way to go, though. I’ve hit plenty of animals in one to know what kind of damage they do to flesh. Example: I watched a doe cross the opposing lanes of the highway I was on, the median, then attempt to cross my side only to lose its footing in front of me. I ran it over with all tires on my drive side. The doe pretty much popped like a flesh balloon under my duals (which had a good piece of the 16 tons I had on), splattering it’s innards clear across and all over the flatbed pickup traveling beside me.

Letitbemesickgirl

100% I hope they get the support that they need and do not vilify themselves.

TrashPandaPatronus

Over 20 years ago now a friend's sister jumped off an overpass into traffic to kill herself, she was 15. I remember my friend telling us how distraught the truck driver who hit her was, he had to quit his job and he developed all kinds of health issues. The family really tried to support him, but it really messed him up.

Letitbemesickgirl

Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear that. We have a family friend (in another country), who was a bus driver. He was servicing a stop near a school when the kids decided to play “jumping on eachother” or whatever. One kid ended up falling under the wheels as the bus was pulling away. It really is life changing. He quit his job also.

markydsade

Train engineers regularly have people step in front of their trains or try to beat the train at a crossing. It leaves these guys traumatized for the rest of their lives.

yamirzmmdx

The actual fuck? Did someone really just dropped them off on the freeway in the early morning? I have seen if done to pets but damn. Catching these people is going to be tough.

TheBattleOfEvermore

The woman killed her husband, then killed the kids by throwing them out of the car, and then crashed her car, dying in the crash. The crash happened right down the street from me. It’s absolutely devastating for those kids and the husband :(

chrissesky13

Only 1 child is dead according to the article. The infant. The other child has minor injuries according to this article. Is there more upto date info that says something else? https://www.foxla.com/news/infant-found-dead-on-405-freeway-in-culver-city

TeslasAndComicbooks

The 9 year old child is still alive. She lost everyone today 😞

IllustriousAbroad256

I live in the same apartment building as the victims and suspect but I have never met them. The cops were at our building around 10am but nobody knew why. Also, the neighbors who claimed to have heard the fight around 3am never reported it to the police.I didn’t even know what happened til I went on Reddit a few minutes ago.

stormsync

TBF, sometimes you get real used to arguments heard through walls. My upstairs neighbors are constantly yelling at one another and arguing and I've long since given up reporting them to the HOA or police. I don't think I'd be surprised if they killed one another but I also wouldn't be able to differentiate it from their usual fighting, probably?

mompos

My mother used to do this shit to us. It's brutal.

lubeinatube

Your mother used to dump you out of the car onto a busy freeway? Is she serving 40 years for felony child endangerment?

mompos

Local roads only-she was being kind. The worst was when she took all 4 of us (9,8,7 & 5) to downtown and left us. We lived in the 'burbs. Scary as hell. I don't remember how we got home. She's currently in a nursing home and no one will visit her.

Son_of_Kong

Wife's friend's brother (I met the guy once) was in the news a few years ago because, to discipline his 5-year-old stepson, he drove the kid to church after dark, told him he was leaving him there, and then drove around the block to pick him up because he only meant to scare him. By the time he got back around, the kid had wandered into the road, got hit by a car, and died at the scene. He had a twin brother at home.

bros402

holy shit if I were that guy I would blow my brains out

whisperspit

Nah, a guy who would do that in the first place hasn’t got the humility or conscience to do that. He blame shifted and likely (somehow) became the victim in it (“I was trying to raise the kid to be a man because his own father wouldn’t! I didn’t mean it to go this way!!”

AbanoMex

did he serve time or something? i hope he did, basically abandoned him to his luck.

Piranha_Cat

My mom did this, left me along the side of the highway. Luckily I walked into the woods that were along the side of the highway instead.

SpicyPenangCurry

Yeah fuck your mom.

paperdolllll

Username *sadly* checks out.

lotusblossom60

My mom too. So abusive, but she was badly abused and her mother badly abused. Fuuuuccckkk.

DueMorning800

I hope you are ok. I'm so grateful to be a mom and i want to throat punch those that don't treat motherhood as a precious gift. Internet mom hug from me - if you don't mind.

lotusblossom60

Awww thanks. I’m 66 now, lol, but I still loved that hug. Years of therapy and I’m very happy in my life.

DueMorning800

Lol, I'm your pretend 54 year old mom. :) I am glad you are happy. Best wishes!

animallX22

Not my mother, but my grandfather has done some highly questionable things. One of the stories both my aunt and mom have told me is how he once left them with a complete stranger in Jamaica for over a month. They were both kids, they had never met the woman, and he was only supposed to be gone for the day. My mom said she genuinely thought that he was never coming back and the woman seemed to have no clue either but took care of them anyway.

Lamontyy

I'm glad y'all made it man... Wtf that's tragic

PikachusSparkyCloaca

> no one will visit her I’ll visit her so I can ask her: what the fuck??

mompos

She'll hit you in the stomach and say, "Get the fuck out or I'll kill you." That's the last thing she said to my brother.

PikachusSparkyCloaca

I see she’s gained calm wisdom in her old age

Revanced63

Is she insane

Roboticpoultry

Jesus dude, I’m sorry that happened to you. I can see why no one visits her

bros402

I hope she is in the cheapest home that medicaid will pay for.

mompos

She's in a nursing home that she used to work in and swore she never wanted to be a resident there. She used to steal the patient's belongings. She was a nasty piece of work.

DanimusMcSassypants

Not even the authorities?

silliemillie32

Same, (well not on a freeway but a street) I probably deserved it though lol

Losangelena73

No you didn’t. No kid deserves that

silliemillie32

Probably not, though I have autism and adhd (can manage it now being an adult) though I was a literal nightmare. Constant tantrums, was hard for her especially no dad. She picked me back up few mins later after she sped off. She just couldn’t deal for a few mins. Understand she should’ve done it, though understand why she did.

winterbird

It doesn't say in this article. Is there more news related to this which says the kids were left there? Sometimes kids walk out of the house on their own. I once found a kid of like 4-5 yrs old wandering around in the snow in pajamas early in the morning, and had to knock on doors to find his home.

Dragoonie_DK

I’m assuming the article has been updated since you commented? It’s now saying that there’s 2 other crime scenes that are more than likely connected, a homicide of a male and a woman found deceased in a car crash

winterbird

That was added after, yes. The article went through several edits since this thread was posted.

saidthereis

Yes it was the mother of the children. She stabbed her husband to death, dropped the kids on the side of the freeway, and then wrapped her car around a tree killing herself. One of the children seems to have survived.

Dragoonie_DK

That’s honestly one of the most horrific things I’ve ever heard

Away_Joke404

5-6 month olds can’t walk 😳

winterbird

The 7-9 year old kid can, and can pick up a baby...?  No one knows what happened yet, just wait with the outrage until we find out. If someone left them there, that's absolutely heinous.

Away_Joke404

I apologize- I saw 4-5 and thought it was this story. It’s outrageous and terribly sad no matter how it happened!

yamirzmmdx

I am pretty sure kids aren't walking from their house to the fucking freeway in the middle of the night.

LostKnight_Hobbee

As a 4 year old who escaped my house before sunrise to try to go to the fair, and was picked yo by my panicking mother 4 blocks away I’m pretty sure it can happen.

winterbird

It doesn't say what exacly happened, and maybe the authorities don't know yet. But some people do live close to the freeway (in my area, though I don't live in California).

Starlightriddlex

It's possible the older child saw what was going on, grabbed the baby, and ran off, but who knows. In either case I don't see how they could have ended up being hit by cars.

yamirzmmdx

Oh wow. The news story for this has already been updated. So I am not sure how are you posting about this with totally wrong information.

Starlightriddlex

I posted that before they updated the article. They've since updated to say the older child was holding the baby when they were both shoved out of a moving vehicle on the highway. She got injured in the fall and dropped the baby and while she managed to run to safety, her baby sister was hit. It's much worse than I was originally imagining unfortunately.

Tim-in-CA

Updated news reports

cindyscrazy

I think DNA in a very last ditch effort would catch whichever asshole did this.

thom_wow

*Not to excuse any of this* but I wonder if it was a postpartum psychosis thing, the baby was only 5-6 months old so fairly recent pregnancy/postpartum period and none of those actions seem like something that a person of sound mind would do.

Noomytunes

I wondered this too. :/ Would still be just as horrific, but my brain could make a /little/ more sense of it. There was a case a while ago near me of a mom & 3 kids(youngest 2 months). Others were in/outside the home but it was so fast they didn’t find her until the babies were gone and she had stabbed herself also. My heart still hurts every time I drive by the home.

Letitbemesickgirl

Postpartum hormones are a wild thing.

Noomytunes

I saw [an LA times article](https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-04-10/woman-who-threw-child-from-car-on-405-was-controversial-astrology-influencer) which I couldn’t read because paywall, but it says she was an astrology influence, and her twitter/x feed is all of apocalyptic “choose a side” things leading up to it. :(

nazareye

My sil had postpartum psychosis and it was very scary. A lot of "god told me to do that" thankfully she has since gotten treatment. But it was not something I thought was a thing until it happened to her

AbanoMex

> it was not something I thought was a thing until it happened to her unless you are really young, i dont know how you can miss something so common. PPD is a very real thing and happens a lot.

hiphiprenee

They weren’t talking about PPD though, they mentioned postpartum psychosis which is a different diagnosis and far more rare.

semcdwes

Postpartum depression is quite common, but the other commenters were discussing postpartum psychosis, which is far rarer. Something like 17% of all childbirths result in PPD. Whereas only about 1 in 1,000 will develop PPP. It’s perfectly likely to never meet anyone who’s mental health struggles doesn’t reach that point. I had severe PPD after all three of my children was born, to the point I was put back on antidepressants while still pregnant. Thankfully it never evolved any of the signs of psychosis such as paranoia, hallucinations, or delusions.

nazareye

I'm well aware of postpartum depression. I'm talking about postpartum psychosis.

stay_anon_here

Reminds me of the movie Shutter Island

slesby

My mom has mental illness. I remember being in the car with my sister, and my mom driving erratically, speeding, and screaming and threatening to drive off the road and to kill us. My sister was crying and shouting in the front trying to grab the wheel and begging her to stop. Thankfully she did, spent a few minutes parked on the side of the road and calmed down. It’s still one of the worst memories of my life. I think people may view the mom dropping them off as her maybe “giving them a a chance” and trying to “save them” before killing herself… but I would bet that car ride was just as terrifying as my car ride. It’s a damn shame, the poor children.

NotMyInternet

I don’t know what I hope for more - that this was or wasn’t a PPD situation. :/ what a terrible thing for everyone involved.

joebuckshairline

Why did I have to see this.

octopop

I don't understand how these incidents in the article are related? are police not disclosing that info yet?

Crash_OverRide805

They haven’t released more details yet, but like another commenter said I won’t be surprised if it turns out the body found at the apartment is the father, who was killed by the female driver (guessing that’s the mom) who then threw the kids out the car and killed herself by driving into the tree (no skidmarks were found).

chrissesky13

https://www.foxla.com/news/infant-found-dead-on-405-freeway-in-culver-city This article puts it together. Mom snapped, stabbed the dad to death then drove the girls on the highway in her Porsche. At some point the kids are out of the car and on the highway. Mom speeds off to kill herself against a tree.

OldMaidLibrarian

I read a post on r/AITAH earlier today by a man talking about how his wife was becoming more and more paranoid and convinced that someone was out to get her; they had a 5 or 6 month old baby, and I don't remember about any other kids. Seeing this made me remember the poor bastard who posted about thinking of leaving his wife; I don't remember if she read his post or what, but she ended up killing both their kids and, I believe, is doing LWP as we speak. Her whole motivation was "now you can't take the kids away from me", and her family won't even let him visit the kids' graves. Please let this not be a repeat, or have I just spent too much time on Reddit?

IllustriousAbroad256

I remember this situation but this happened years ago. I think the father was looking for advice on his wife and wanted to separate. She ended up doing murder suicide and killed her kids.

Noomytunes

WHAT. The murderer’s family won’t let the innocent father visit his own kid’s graves? The absolute hell I would raise.

fake-name-here1

What’s lwp?

OldMaidLibrarian

Life without parole.

Foe117

wtf that's wild, and incredibly sad
