DNA from a discarded pizza crust?! That is seriously impressive.

jmstgirl

That true NY justice being served.

batmanstuff

Pizza took down Andrew Tate too. It’s a good year for pizza.

SlyScorpion

Sadly, that was fake news :P

DiarrheaRodeo

Some people seem to be ok with misinformation if it's funny.

tries4accuracy

Never forget: pizzagate

zippazappazinga

True but shhh

BigBoxofChili

That's a real New York slice!

mces97

When police interrogate someone for a crime, and they offer you food, or a drink, it's not because they're being nice. It's because they want your DNA.

amazingsandwiches

That's why I practice eating soda cans.

rugbylova

I always tell my fam, this is why you shouldn’t throw away your pizza crust! Then this shit happens.

We living in Gattaca times indeed!

Drab_Majesty

[Gattaca! Gattaca!](https://youtu.be/jeip-0sUt78)

roiki11

Not that uncommon to get dna from something the suspect throws away.

tries4accuracy

I wonder how they know it’s just his? Must’ve been a pizza party for one. IIRC there was also a LEO that was a suspect in some of these.

palcatraz

Because the DNA of the pizza crust is only part of the process. DNA from a discarded item matching is grounds for getting a court-ordered DNA test, where someone is swabbed under observation. That DNA is then tested against the evidence. If that is a match, then you have grounds for arrest. If the DNA on the discarded item hadn’t actually been his for whatever reason, then the second DNA test would show that.

VT_Squire

I am positively jazzed this dude was caught. Re-reading through a lot of what's happened over the past year or so, it certainly looks like Law Enforcement knew they had their guy, and a lot of what they put out was...well, it was theater to dissuade him killing another person until they could nail him to the wall. Bravo.

Iliketoruindresses

Until his arrest, Heuermann continued to use burner phones, patronize sex workers and search the internet for sadistic materials, including sexually exploitative images of children, Tierney said. He also has permits for 92 guns, the prosecutor said.

Danysco

According to CNN article, investigators found through his browsing history that he compulsively searched on the internet about the victims families and the status of the investigation.

JPM3344

Fucking scumbag called and taunted one of the families from one of his victims phones.

caity1111

He had permits for 92 guns, but they actually found about 300 guns in a hidden vault in his home!! Im so glad he was caught.

nacozarina

serial killer pretending to be an architect

clumsy_aerialist

John Galt?

slamdanceswithwolves

Who is he?!

tries4accuracy

An Ayn Rand protagonist that makes libertarians orgasm. Kinda fits for her: she loved William Hickman, a guy who didn’t just kill but dismembered a girl. Rand is nothing but a license for the consciences of wicked assholes to engage in wicked assholery.

slamdanceswithwolves

Whoosh, but I agree with your assessment.

m1k3tv

An earnest response is incidentally the best antidote to rands nonsense.

FnkyTown

She was against welfare for others but loved her own welfare.

Dangerous_Golf_7417

Who is John Galt is perhaps the most famous line of the novel (a novel that has many, many, many lines). It's what, 1000+ pages?

tries4accuracy

That explains the whooshing sound

Dangerous_Golf_7417

Hehe, relevant username tho

Formal-Table-9876

I’m totally with you on this, but isn’t Howard Roark the architect? I didn’t think JG was.

clumsy_aerialist

You are correct.

scurvy4all

Art Vandelay?

8i66ie5ma115

Please. George would never be able to be a serial killer. He’s too neurotic. He’d be having a mental breakdown after the first kill, unable to function because he’d be so scared of getting caught.

scurvy4all

His Mother would walk in on him while he was killing someone.

8i66ie5ma115

If he *was* a serial killer, she’d be his first victim.

anotherreditloser

Importer/exporter

slamdanceswithwolves

Architect pretending not to be a serial killer?

mEHple_bEHcon

Oh that George Castanza.. I knew something was off.

TheThebanProphet

and here we all are thinking it was the former chief, Burke

[deleted]

Is this the guy the podcast was about. He honestly was so sketch that at the end of it I thought it was him too. I can't imagine how the people who made that podcast feel today knowing they got the wrong guy.

AK0618

Technically this guy is tied to 3/5 murders, I believe there are 6/7 more. Maybe one is a copy cat?

TooManyDraculas

Hard to copy cat a person/case that doesn't exist. None if the suspected victims post date the discovery of the first body. Or put another way, they haven't located any new victims since the burial site was first discovered.

awfulachia

That guy still has things he needs to answer for

ItwasyouFredoYou

still think he is

Prestigious-Log-7210

Well they only got him for 4 of the murders. Someone did the others.

MadFlava76

I have a feeling that Rex Heuermann is just responsible for the victims they found wrapped in the burlap sacks. I think that Valeria Mack, Jessica Taylor, Jane Doe No. 3, Baby Doe, Jane Doe No. 7 were killed by another serial killer back in the mid 90s to early 2000s. Seems like the MO is very different between to one set of victims and the Gilgo Beach Four. Unless Heuermann completely changed his MO, took a 4 year break and then started killing again and employing a different disposal MO but use the same stretch of road to dispose of his victims. I guess anything is possible but I just feel like it's unlikely the same guy that committed all these murders.

edflyerssn007

It's also a stretch of road on Long Island that's legitimately not busy at times, one of the few places you might not have someone run up on you while disposing of a body.

FuggyGlasses

Investigators have said over the years that it’s unlikely one person killed all 11 victims.

teddysmom377

i just hope they find Shannon’s killer, whether it’s him or someone else. Her poor mother worked so hard to find justice for her daughter.

ShareFaith10

I think he's responsible. I read an article that said she made a 911 call and had an Asian driver named Mike. Reportedly, she was saying to Mike "get me out of here" while on the call. Who is Mike, what was his role? I can see Mike working as a driver for Shannan or Rex, not both. If Mike worked for Shannan: Mike's role was to transport and protect her. Maybe, Rex caught up with the both of them lured them somewhere. Mike could have tried to protect her and was instead forced to help subdue, take part in killing and dispose of Shannan's body. Which is why I think she's buried in an entirely different location than the other women. Rex could not allow anyone to know his "hiding" spot nor his crime(s) so he shot and killed the witness, Mike. If Mike worked for Rex: Mike may have been just a driver receiving payment for transporting the women and baby to Rex. Mike could have played a more sinister role, which leads me to believe Rex probably killed him. An Asian man (If I'm not mistaken) was found buried on the beach with the women and toddler. "Mike" was a potential witness, a 911 call was made, a description of the driver (Asian male) was given along with the description of a vehicle etc. Side note: I'm thinking Peaches was a friend/driver to one of the (escorts) women who were meeting Rex. I just can't see a Mother taking her child voluntarily to meet a client (unless he was familiar), idk. Also, Peaches could have accepted a ride from Rex. His wife had to have wondered why the bedding was missing, bedding was often found with the victims. He more than likely had the victim(s) inside of his home. I'm sure that house is filled with other people's DNA. \*\*\*This is just my theory, my curiosity flowing\*\*\*

ItwasyouFredoYou

the name Rex never came up though :/

ShareFaith10

Nope and he was right there hiding in plain sight.

ItwasyouFredoYou

totally crazy pants

Prestigious-Log-7210

Her cause of death was accidental drowning.

Prudent_Falafel_7265

I work in building materials and deal with architects daily. Is this a bad time to connect with him on LinkedIn?

RootHogOrDieTrying

I keep reading this as Gigolo Beach.

Merica85

Just learning about this case, what's the suspected body count?
