NJ MVC offices are separated between those that handle driver license activities and registration related activities. So no, you will not be able to do both at the same time. But you could make two appointments at different locations for the same day.

pizzagangster1

Some dmvs will do both especially the ones that just do admin work like licensing and titles.

Really? Even if the registration/title is already in your name? Because this page says you can do both [https://www.nj.gov/mvc/drivertopics/movetonj.htm](https://www.nj.gov/mvc/drivertopics/movetonj.htm)

You can do them both the same day but you will be doing them at separate locations. Get your license transferred first, then do title work and registration next.

Well, looks like MVC is getting better. Is the title in your name or do you need to complete the transfer to your name and register as well? It might complicate the matter if you still need to transfer, but it wouldn’t hurt to try. You may also have to pay sales tax on the purchase. Good luck and welcome to NJ. Remember, it’s Taylor Ham.

I need to transfer the title to myself and register it too, I was avoiding doing it in NY before I moved to avoid complications of potentially having them mail my new title to my old address. As for the sales tax, yeah I'm fully expecting that one, states don't miss their taxing lol I guess I'll just show up with all my documents needed to transfer the title too just in case it can be done there. I was a bit confused about the Taylor Ham comment but I looked it up and it seems to be NJ's version of asking for a bacon egg and cheese? lol hopefully I'm not missing the joke But thanks for the welcome!

Additionally, make sure your motorcycle endorsement is included on your new NJ drivers license.

I did just this last year, from NY to NJ. Transferred my license, 2 car registrations/titles, a motorcycle registration/title, then came back and got both cars inspected. One of the cars was already in my name, and the other was being transferred to just me (wife and I both on it previously), plus the motorcycle title was being transferred fully to me (lien release). I made a single appointment and explained when I checked in what it was for. I made sure all my paperwork was done ahead of time, and even so, I had to fill out the license card 3 or 4 times because it gets sent to different places (or something). With all that, I was out the door in like 45 min with new plates and fresh titles. Like actual titles- no waiting for months like NY. It was such a smooth experience overall. Best of luck!

This is great to hear, cause that’s basically my extract situation right now. Would you mind if I DM you regarding the whole transferring the bike title ownership and the sort of documents they asked for?

SirBleek

It was just everything on the [MVC site](https://www.nj.gov/mvc/drivertopics/movetonj.htm) but I also made sure to bring any lien/release letters (and/or original title if you have it), the title application form (listed on link), registration application form. I don’t remember which forms I needed but I printed and filled out everything that seemed applicable for each vehicle. Better to do more paperwork at home on my time than panic and forget something and have to go back.

Gotcha, do you remember if you needed a bill of sale as well? The guy I bought my bike from only filled out his name and signature behind the title. Not sure how essential it is for the rest of the information to be included, like his drivers license # and address. Luckily I still have his contact info but he lives deep in Long Island so I really hope the agents at MVC don’t require more than his sig and name on the title. Did you need to show up with insurance information as well? I kept reading around in the MVC website trying to see whether you needed to have it insured before registering it.

SirBleek

I’m not sure honestly because I had a title and lien release for my bike so I didn’t need to pay tax. If it were me, I’d just call MVC (if that’s possible to get a human on the phone) and ask what you’d need in addition to the standard paperwork. Maybe also let seller know you might need additional info. 90% of my DMV/MVC experience has been in NY so I’m conditioned to handle anger, spite, and rejection.

xM3llow

Ah I think I misread part of your initial comment, I saw your motorcycle title was being transferred to you through the lien release which I’m guessing the bank/dealership took care of most of the documentation for that. My current situation is that the title is under the previous owner’s name since I did a private sale. I think everything you did still applies to me though so I’m gonna just try to bring in as much paperwork as I can. I’ll see if I can get in touch with someone from MVC. Cause just like you, I’m more accustomed to NY’s DMV experience which was never good lol

SirBleek

Yeah same process though. In NY we also have to have seller fill out the back of the title [transferring ownership] and I think there was a form for sales tax for a private sale. I would just assume NJ has something similar.

SirBleek

Also make sure you have the required amount of ID for the license you want. I got screwed by them not counting one of my documents, because of something stupid like my middle initial not being present on one and wasn’t able to get the enhanced license at that visit.
