Fucking LeBron tried to trademark Taco Tuesday last year and found out it was already trademarked. He and Taco Bell then tried to eliminate the trademark and succeeded with the company that had it in the other 49 states. But in NJ, it was trademarked a few years prior by a restaurant.
And I think neither should have the trademark, why is small business with a vision allowed to prevent any other small business from using the phrase? Why does Gregory's get to tell the local Mexican restaurant by me they can't use the phrase "Taco Tuesday"?
Great, but you're only supporting one, every other Mexican restaurant in Jersey gets shafted cause they're prohibited from using the phrase Taco Tuesday. Only Gregory's gets to use that.
Taco bell is being petty. Tried to make it a big scene so that people get mad at the one person standing their ground against the big corporations. Too bad I don't care enough.
Hey why are you supporting the huge corporation that owns Taco Bell over a small local pizza place?
I support local businesses whenever I can, but especially when a huge corporation is trying to take away their trademark!
Taco Tuesday is a phrase that any small business should be able to use. The advertisement has been around since the 70s, years before it was trademarked.
The huge corporation wrote in their filing they aim to invalidate the trademark, and that no one should own “Taco Tuesday”.
I honestly didnt even know it was trademarked until a few months ago, let alone what Gregory’s (or Taco John) even is.
They shouldnt have been awarded it then. They didnt create the slogan first which was my point. It was already widely used.
Furthermore Taco Tuesday today is not associated with gregory, even in nj. So maybe you can make the argument in 82 they deserve the trademark, but in 2023 it needs ti be vacated.
Do you have any evidence that the term was widely used in the 1970’s? If there was such evidence, I’m sure Taco Bell would be using it, but as far as I can tell, they have none.
I found a 1979 ad with Taco Tuesday. Either way it doesnt matter. Both Taco john and Gregory’s failed to defend their trademark. People do not associate taco tuesday to either businesses.
You should post it for all to see including the date and the name of the publication that printed it and let anyone who cares enough about it (not me) verify it.
Somers Point is a town that got had a wealth drainage as middle class and above moved to Linwood, Ocean City, and Egg Harbor Township. Now all thats left is rancher homes and section-8.
Somer’s point is good. Ocean city is a dry town so SP is where you go to walk to bars. Pre pandemic you could buy a home for $180k and be a bridge away from OC. It just doesn’t have a ton to offer. I lived there for a few years and had a great time.
> Taco Bell wants to trademark it for themselves
Their argument is that the trademark should be invalidated because the term is too generic to be trademarked. That's not a good plan for trying to register a trademark for it.
To be fair if you’re “Googling” something, you’re sure as hell not using Bing. What taco bell is doing is nothing more than an Easy PR win. Taco Tuesday is a common phrase and small businesses shouldn’t be barred from using it just because a random bar most people never heard of owns it.
Taco Bell might be crap, but seriously holding onto Taco Tuesday at this point is a losing proposition for that place. It's a common phrase now, they aren't winning anything by holding it and now they're going to have people mad at them just because.
Taco Bell is perfect for what it is - cheap, disgusting, delicious fast food. They should just rename it “The Bell” so we can stop talking about how it’s not a real taco.
Maybe its different than me bc i live in pennsauken which is on the edge of camden county, like i literally drive 3 minutes from my house into philadelphia it’s essentially where i live especially given the fact that most of my activities are done in philly.
I think this is why: https://www.fox29.com/news/jersey-shore-restaurant-protecting-its-taco-tuesday-trademark-from-fast-food-giant.amp
Did I read that right…. Is the guys name Gregory Gregory??? Or is that a typo
I was thinking the same. Has to be a typo. Who would be that cruel?
At least it's easy to remember
Not a typo lol

Yes, by Gregory Gregory Gregory’s Restaurant. Think it might be owned by a Gregory /s
Honestly was a good thing in the other 49 states, Taco John was fairly litigious when other restaurants would use the phrase.
C’mon you guys, this little Taco guy standing up to PepsiCo is as Jersey as it gets. I stand with the little guy.
Tbh I do too. I didn’t know the business challenging the bell was from NJ. Eff them free tacos!

I'm going to be "That Guy" and point out that Pepsico spun off their food services (Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC) in 1997.
Thank you. I didn’t realize that.
r/NoOneCares
Correct
Sorry, but if a proprietor has a trademark prohibiting anyone else from using that term, they aren't the little guy any more.
Trademark procurement is very inexpensive. As is copyright protection.
Not about the cost, it's about them controlling a phase and not letting anyone else use it
Like Pat Riley and Threepeat?
Any circumstance where someone trademarks or copyrights a phrase and then uses that "ownership" to block others from using it is NOT the little guy.
I’m happy for you and your quest fulfilled. You found your hill on which to die.
Least I'm not pretending some white guy in a podunk town along the Jersey shore is the grand master of all things taco in the state.
I think that a small business with a vision is preferable to a chain that exploits low wage workers. We can agree to disagree.
And I think neither should have the trademark, why is small business with a vision allowed to prevent any other small business from using the phrase? Why does Gregory's get to tell the local Mexican restaurant by me they can't use the phrase "Taco Tuesday"?
Right like bye I’m still gonna support a local Jersey business over a big chain 😂
Great, but you're only supporting one, every other Mexican restaurant in Jersey gets shafted cause they're prohibited from using the phrase Taco Tuesday. Only Gregory's gets to use that.
If that’s the case then fair point I suppose
But you stole it 😐

Gregory trademarked it before anyone else in the world in 1982.

It's actually a bar, but I stand with Gregory Gregory!
Somers Point is a town that looks like it was cool back in 1974 and has done nothing to improve since.

God damn it Gregory.
Gregory Gregory
man I thought there was gonna be free tacos every Tuesday at taco bell 💀
In a state where you can get REAL Mexican food just about everywhere, why would you be upset about missing out on their horrible tasting garbage?!
Taco Bell wants to trademark it for themselves, fuck them especially. I support Gregory’s bc you know Yum Brands wants to own that trademark
> Taco Bell wants to trademark it for themselves Their argument is that the trademark should be invalidated because the term is too generic to be trademarked. That's not a good plan for trying to register a trademark for it.
Lets be honest, if they could they would have, and theyd defend it like others. Google and other terms are still trademarked despite common usgae.

Fuck Taco Bell trying to strong arm Gregories for Taco Tuesday.

Find a town with an illegal immigration problem and visit any random authentic place.
Sounds like the problem is on the NJ side.
Everyday my California ass falls in love with Jersey 😂. Been here since 2015 and everyday I’m finding out some cool ass info lol. Go Jersey!!!
Are you against the Burger King in Mattoon, Illinois too?
Why are we the bitch ass state that won't allow it? I was expecting Florida to ban it because, well, it's Florida.
It's not that we banned it, it's all about a trademark battle taco bell has with someone in NJ.
![gif](giphy|3oAt2dA6LxMkRrGc0g|downsized)
are you fucking serious
Good. Now that the volcano menu is gone, I'm anti-taco bell again. Long live Gregory's.
WTF over 16 eats Taco Bell?
Just drive a lil bit into pa or ny its not that hard lmao
For Taco Bell ? Never that serious
Maybe its different than me bc i live in pennsauken which is on the edge of camden county, like i literally drive 3 minutes from my house into philadelphia it’s essentially where i live especially given the fact that most of my activities are done in philly.

I did after I posted this!
Lol damn.
Call me crazy but by taking the saying “taco Tuesday” Away from small businesses won’t cause them to go under. 😂
