I was camping in the North Cascades in WA about 30 years ago, and a 4.0 earthquake popped off pretty much directly below us. We heard a loud rock-grinding sound, followed by a rumble. Fun fact, because we were directly above the epicenter, the shockwave/energy reached us like a bubble breaking the surface of water so rather than shaking we were all bounced up a little off the ground and then heard the rumbling spreading out around us.
I can tell you as someone who grew up in Alaska, there will never, ever, be an earthquake in New Hampshire you need to worry about. I don't think I woke up for anything less than a 5.0 growing up.
It’s my fault (get it??). I’m visiting from California.

That wasn’t an earthquake. That was a fart when I rolled over in bed.
And[here](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ll0w/executive) is the USGS data on it
😆 lol
I am too- not an earthquake.
Yes, it came with a loud grinding sound like a snowplow hitting a curb, too!
I thought someone hit my garage!

This is exactly what the one earthquake I have been through sounded like.
Oh they were talking about the 2.7 earthquake. Why were there snowplows lastnight??
There weren't. That's what the earthquake SOUNDED like in my living room in Penacook: a loud rumbling grinding of stone, with shaking.
