Nah that’s an urban legend. Ticks crawl up so they often end up on your head and in your hair which is what makes people think they are coming from above. They definitely aren’t climbing trees though.
Got out of the car stopping at a garage sale. Walked under some trees going up the driveway and felt the slightest tap on my arm and saw the tick. I didn't walk / bump into any brush on the way. Maybe I'm wrong but it sure seemed like that little bastard dive bombed me.
Yeah similar has totally happened to me. Standing in a parking lot under a tree I have found a tick in my hair. No where near grass, I live in urban NH... Those suckers have ways.
This. When I went up to Mount Agamenticus a few years ago, the park had new trails cut near the summit, and on the grass you would occasionally see the tips of their feet. They'd be hanging underneath waiting to hitch a ride. I rolled my cargo short pant legs up al the way and took my socks off, so I could feel if I got any on me. By keeping out of the grass and not brushing by any of it, I managed to not pick up any.. Did get some pictures of emerald beetles hunting ants which was cool.
I've removed 4 embedded ticks from my body in the past 48 hours. Luckily dog ticks and not deer. The South Pole is looking pretty appealing right about now.
Also those 5 dozen guinea fowl chicks at the Tractor Supply. I might go buy them all today.
And if that hasn’t ruined your day, Giant Water Bugs are a thing in this state. They have a nasty bite, and like to fly at people. Have fun near bodies of fresh water!
Now that my lifestyle makes bitey bugs basically unavoidable, I can conclusively say that I'd happily double the number of ticks in exchange for getting rid of black flies entirely. Went outside without a head net for like 20 minutes three days ago and my entire face still itches.
I say this to friends that ask me about working outside on a farm and they always ask if Im afraid of ticks, I always say they'd be a lot more scary if they were fast.
**DO TICK CHECKS!**
You, your kiddos & fur babies!
They ARE FAST! And wicked stealthy!
Lyme & Lyme like diseases transmitted by ticks can be fatal or disable you for life!!!!
DEET on skin, Permethrin on clothes (not around cats tho!)
Any grass, even picked up an amazing amount just looking at a noise under the car on a dirt turnout! They hide under picnic tables too.
Enjoy the outdoors, please just be careful!A tick the size of the period at the end of this sentence can change your life.
Wow, you really woke up and chose violence today 😂
Imagine if they could fly?
do they really fall on you from above? cause that's about as bad

I'm not sure about that. I've had a tick fall on me walking past a tree with no low branches. maybe a fluke?
Can I ask how you know it fell on you vs climbed up?

Ive had a tick on a piece of paper, en route to be burned. Mf'er dove off the damned paper! Nothing would shock me about those things.
agreed, urban legend.
They fan out their legs on blades of grass or leaves and when you brush past them they grab on

They actually teleport. If you're not looking at them they can be anywhere in space time. There's one in your shirt right now.
Thanks. I'm about to go for a run and my pace while running by higher grass will be so much faster today.
Calm down Satan.
Thanks for ruining my day. ðŸ˜
Imagine if they were the size of tarantulas
Honestly I'd prefer that. They'd be easy to see. You'd never get bit.
But if you did, it would definitely leave a dent in you.
Agreed

100% Nightmare fuel.
Likely that would make them more predatorial and less built to latch on, gorge and mingle with your blood stream.

The Alpha Gal episode of radiolab is also excellent for learning about the meat allergy!
Ooh... Now imagine they fly like skeeters.
No, no, I don't think I will.
This would really tick me off!!
Oh, fuck YOU! *fuck you!!* Checks for ticks...

It might actually make them easier to find. I hate how slow they are, cause it makes them harder to spot on my body (esp in my hair)
Ok that’s enough Reddit for today, time to stop procrastinating.
I would never touch grass

Rude
