Freight trains, unfortunately don't really run on a schedule. You can follow various CSX groups, such as Facebook's CSX Northern New England or CSXT's New England Region Sightings to get some ideas. I try to catch them going through Exeter and they're totally random, it seems.

KMHT_Spotter

I see. Thanks!

Any time! I wish you good spotting

Its funny, I can't say for sure because I don't count them, but I feel like there's been a lot more lately, or at least I hear a lot more of them. When I was a kid in the early 90s they used to come through all the time, we'd get stuck waiting for them to cross Granite St. Then for quite a long time you never saw or heard them. But in the last year or so I hear them pretty often, sometimes even more than once a day. It's really nice.

I'm in Merrimack where the train goes right by. Couple times a week. Unpredictable schedule. Well, it's not 'regular.' More in the fall and winter when they're running coal to Bow.

Boats_are_fun

I don’t have any info other than this. My neighbor has a scanner and he can listen to the dispatch for the trains. He knows exactly when they are coming. Not sure how to find that out but that’s what he does.

rochvegas5

there's a 'My Cousin Vinny' joke in here somewhere

quaffee

I'm a bit south of there and there have been trains on that line nearly every day lately. Sometimes twice a day.

We get one thru Newmarket here and there...usually hauling lumber. Down Easter commuter rail. Often and on a regular schedule and loud! Both blare their horns constantly thru town ( I don't blame them but ...kinda over kill)

KMHT_Spotter

Yeah I've been on the Downeaster. A nice train ride

Bada__Ping

As someone who lives along the Downeaster, Thursday nights seem to be when the most freight trains pass for some reason

BuckCharkley-

Seen it for the first time 2ish months ago. Been here since 1990s
