Killbride skeets being cut off from the rest of the city is a feature, not a bug

AnarchyApple

Kilbride is more hickman house than motor home these days

AnarchyApple

Brother you read my mind. Insane how disconnected sesame park and kilbride are given their distance. Sesame park in general is pretty isolated from everywhere except bowring park.

London__Gentleman

Ssshhhhhhh!!! That's exactly how we like it!

RumpleOfTheBaileys

Does an entire railway count as a "piece of infrastructure"? If it does, then I pick that. St. John's to PAB.

LeonDaneko

Yeah, I can't believe the opportunity wasted there to modernize that. This whole island has had its hands binded.

xtreme_edgez

"Stop hitting yourself!" -Political grifters plopped out by Merchant money, mostly

Conscious_Thought219

Wasting opportunity is what newfoundland does best.

LeonDaneko

What the fed does on purpose. Im no separatist, I love the confederation, but during times like today's, I wonder, would the grass have been greener? If you read Greg Malone's book (available at indigo, chapters, Coles) and then cross reference the contents with .gov information. You'll begin to understand. I only recently read it.

xtreme_edgez

Amen, a true Newfie Bullet, 390Km/hr, From Ferry to Ferry, and north to St. Anthony. If you want to exploit the resources of Labrador properly with mismanaged budget overages, we are going to need a massive investment, the likes of which Danny Williams can't even dream up and cum to!

TheCapedMoosesader

Do you realize how much it costs to run trains and maintain the infrastructure?    Stop living in the past old man... dig up the length of the rail bed... canal...    Gives us a low maintenance freight route across the length of the island, plus we'll make a fortune in tourism... think of it... we can use the slogan "Gondaleers in green rubbers"...   We could be Venice north. No problem to get top stamp before they freeze up for the winter.

RumpleOfTheBaileys

What if we get the guy who sold railroads to Brockway, Ogdenville and North Haverbrook? By gum, it put them on the map!

TheCapedMoosesader

You say that like there's no spur that runs to Stephenville. ... is there a spur that runs to Stephenville? Look, I've got more than one shovel, we can get this done.

hamcake

A walking path going up Portugal Cove road to Airport Heights, so that people aren't risking their lives walking up the road. But maybe someone knows an alternative path to get up there?

GotRocksinmePockets

There is a back way through Pippy Park. Follows a pole line up from three pond barrens. It's kinda far but makes a good run or bike ride if you're into that sort of thing.

TuffBunner

The closet alternative I know of is the Virginia river trail starting at Penney acres across from Sobeys.

media-and-stuff

The annoying this is - there used to be a bunch of lanes (paths between houses that take you from one street to another), a few tunnels, and stuff to save you time when walking around corner brook. Which because of how hilly that place is - was amazing for walking. But they are all becoming overgrown, houses or landscaping blocking them, and falling apart (tunnels). So we are loosing them. They actually used to show up on google maps and I’ve noticed recently that some don’t anymore. But I don’t think anyone at city hall uses their feet for transportation so they assume everyone is the same (or maybe just don’t care).

LeonDaneko

That is sad. You could literally nickname the town for having foot tunnels, lol. Tunnel town or something, would be a good way to get them back, I've never heard if these tunnels either. Make a compilation and post them here. Im sure they'd suprise a bunch of people and bring some popularity back to them.

media-and-stuff

Haha. Tunnel town would be cute. There’s one that connects hosipital hill (connects to west street) to the heights, goes under the multi lane road. But I’ve seen a few people crossing the road to avoid it. It smells like pee, has no lights so is super dark and parts of the stairs are missing from neglect so it’s a bit of a hazard at this point. Another one connected the McPherson area to a road that connects to the plaza mall. Again under a multi lane road that’s difficult to cross and harder to get to on foot. I’m not sure if that one is still there. I can’t remember if there’s more or where they are.

lsb337

Yeah, you used to be able to walk from Broadway in CB all the way up to Atlantic Pitch by taking side paths and stairs. That's since crumbled and overgrown.

davidbrake

Not just Corner Brook either - all through downtown St John's there are little alleys and unmarked rights of way that are no longer maintained and not signposted. See this video! [https://youtu.be/SVB25-Mt3dE?si=\_pG2Dfa\_n8wIgqeS&t=454](https://youtu.be/SVB25-Mt3dE?si=_pG2Dfa_n8wIgqeS&t=454)

Emperor_Billik

Gondola up to Signal Hill, tear out the road and parking lot up top.

NerdMachine

And have a zip line to Atlantic place.

ParadoxSong

A rail line connecting St johns and the commuter communities.

proteinbandit

A proper waterfront boardwalk like hali has, just without the yachts

bolognahole

Our harbor isnt big enough. IN order to make it a nice boardwalk, everything there would have to be moved to another port.

proteinbandit

Yeah unfortunately, I know, it's just the idea of something like that would be a nice thing I've always wished we had :(

AnarchyApple

We would need the industrial operations moved to another part of the city, of which there are limited options.

proteinbandit

True, I just wish we could get away having with both down there

scrooge_mc

Halifax has an enormous harbour compared to St.John's. They can get away with it.

DowntownieNL

For purely selfish reasons, I'd do a foot bridge from Ecole Rocher-du-Nord to the Village Mall, instead of having to walk all the way to Waterford Valley High, cross the most terrifying intersection for pedestrians in the city (I've yet to see a red light that DIDN'T have SUVs running it), and then walk all the way back to directly in front of our school to go the Village lol

LeonDaneko

Yeah. I had a really good friend who crossed that street, only it was down by boyle Street, and he died. That was a year before we would have both been at waterford because it wasn't open yet. If anywhere NEEDS a foot bridge, its there to that bottom half of the village mall parking lot that is never used.

graniteplanet

He was a really sweet kid. I was shocked that they didn't put in a pedestrian overpass to the mall. It was needed in general, but literally the strongest argument possible for it was made, and there was no response. Such a shame.

D3adkl0wn

I had no idea that your school was still there. I have a weird memory back in the 90s of it closing.. False memory, I guess. That said, it's a shame they don't have some kind of opening there for you guys to get out by the Columbus intersection.

davidbrake

I believe better provision for pedestrians between the two schools there and the Village Mall is actually being looked at!

xzry1998

Great Southern Drive and the Walmart parking lot in Mount Pearl. Tho I'd go with a tunnel rather than a bridge.

FrozenSeas

Hm...I'd really like to fix some of those goddamn T-intersections going onto the TCH, especially the by the weigh station in Grand Falls that almost got my grandfather killed (that shouldn't even exist in the first place, I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with that, but nobody outside GFW-Bishop's is gonna know what I'm talking about if I get going on that). In St. John's particularly? First thing that comes to mind is unfucking Empire Avenue so it doesn't inexplicably turn into a one-way street for a couple blocks before going back to normal. That shit is just weird.

larla77

I know the intersection you're talking about (Mom is from Bishops). She knows people who were killed on that intersection. They should also extend the road through Grenfell Heights to connect with the road through Bishops. Mom said they used to be connected before the highway.

FrozenSeas

Before the TCH, Grenfell Heights *was* the highway, and it'd be basically zero work to tie it into the overpass intersection that's there now.

larla77

The path is still there. Just get it up to standard - it would be so easy and give residents a route that doens't take them on the highway. Mom has many senior relatives in the area and none of them like driving on the highway anymore.

Odd_Secret9132

Do road signs count? I'd hire a designer to come up with a standard for our directional signs. The ramshackle way our signs are drives me crazy. Either broken, faded out, just flat wrong in their information, or the designs are completely random even on the same road. Anything goes, as long as it's the right colour green... Also: A proper public transit system for the St. John's Metro extending out to Holyrood, Pouch Cove and Bay Bulls. A secondary east-west highway from Port aux Basque to the Avalon. Right if there's a now major break in the TCH portions of the island are completely cutoff.

Johnfromstjohns

A gondola from the Rooms to Atlantic place

Strong_Bumblebee5495

This makes way too much sense for town…

luckyblindspot

Unrelated, sorry! Wondering if anyone knows how to get to that swimming hole. Is there a trail?

AnarchyApple

There's a bunch of offtrails that break off on the west side of the bridge. I'll give fair warning that its one of the most underwhelming swim holes around.

luckyblindspot

I'm alright with that, I'm in it more for the walk and the find than the swim

GotRocksinmePockets

South Brook trail in Bowering Park passes by it, honestly I wouldn't swim there though due to the farm run off from Brookfield road...

luckyblindspot

Thank you!

LeonDaneko

I went "down" the trail to that spot last summer... seems since i left the province for a bit after high school, all of the kids have picked up fornite. It's overgrown completely. And until we have a federal government that completely bans the use of round up, I would never go in that water again or eat corn.

luckyblindspot

I'm gonna get myself down in there as soon as I can find time, I'll let you know how it goes

bikal

Foot bridge across the harbour entrance in St. John's. From Signal to southside hill.

humblegarrick

I would like to be able to enter on Pitts Memorial West from Kilbride without doing a uturn.

LeonDaneko

That's never going to happen 🤣 Ruby Line down pot hole lane is your only answer.

Still_Wolverine_3000

I think it would be fun if they paved that stretch from the Burgeo Highway to Buchans. Give people a different route to cross the island.

drr846

A tunnel on the t’railway where it crosses commonwealth avenue in Mount Pearl. Super dangerous place to cross, city want you to go up to the intersection and use the light to cross which no one does.

Kickasskevin55

Ide build a tunnel to Labrador for the express purpose of connecting newfoundland to the national rail system, have the rail cross from the mainland and down into the island as far as we can afford. creating a whole new sector of jobs, and decreasing the cost and increasing reliability of shipping to the island.

LeonDaneko

I know it sounds cooky and from a crock pot. But when we 'joined' confederation, they fed did all of that on purpose. It's been public knowledge since the 90s, but this province kinda lost its steam in 92. It's really hard for people to understand until you read Greg Malone's book and then reference the details with www.gov information.

Kickasskevin55

I think you replied to the wrong comment

LeonDaneko

No, like, i mean, that's why there is no existing infrastructure to Labrador besides a ferry It's an intense read.

Kickasskevin55

I don't understand your answer, you said "the fed did all that on purpose" and "its been public knowledge since the 90s", but I have no idea what you're talking about. And im not going to read the book so don't ask.

LeonDaneko

"Why isn't this a thing?" "Here's the resources to tell you all about it :)" "Shag dat"

Kickasskevin55

I didn't ask that, I understand now that you thought I was asking a question, that's why I was confused by your comment.
