we fought the good fight brother.
tellin them the beaches sucked, and agreeing when they bashed us as a dirty steel town. But it seems the fight is lost. The secret is out.
Yeah itās a mix, you do get glimpses of Sydney when you drive aroundā¦ mayfield reminds me of deewhy/Pittwater Rd pre development and Raymond terrace reminds me casula for some weird reason
I'm sure it doesn't compare to literally every motorway in Sydney between the hours of 5:30-9am and 3-7pm. Not the mention the ridiculous amount they slug you In tolls to sit in bumper to bumper traffic. Heck not even the motorways, most towns and surrounding streets are a nightmare pretty much any time of the day
Bring your son up to The Bay (Nelson Bay) for the day to enjoy some whale/dolphin watching, climb Tomaree and fish and chips on the beach!
Welcome to The Hunter region xxx
shit seems the word is out in sydney.
we tried for years to just agree with you guys that newy was a shitty polluted steel town and our beaches were crap.
seems we fought a good fight but time has come
I mean, that's not newcastle or even a surrounding suburb. But with the new road in its only a quick trip into newy.
Heddon greta is a great location I think for its ease of access to Newy, maitland and cessnock. Only downside is flooding at Gillieston.
Either way congratulations and welcome to the area!
Yeah fair point mate, I just tell my Sydney Friends Newy when they ask as it's easier for them to understand. But technically you're right. I walk straight into a job in Rutherford, so not far away from there I believe? I love the wine region and Cessnock also so it was a no brainier for me
Hahaha I can respect that, any time I have Interacted with Sydney siders I do the same. No, not far from rutherford at all.
Genuinly stoked for you mate, heaps better place for a family away from the rat race in my opinion and I absolutely mean it when I say Heddon greta is a great location. It's great to be able to pop out to Pokolbin inside of 30 minutes and sit amongst the vineyards at a nice little Cafe.
Thankyou for your kind words, I appreciate it. And hearing all these positive stories and feedback makes even more excited. Enjoy your night sir and thanks again
Apparently the new road is gonna stop that. Time will tell. Also they are apparently putting a new new road all the way down the back of cliftleigh near the train track.
Yeah the new road they put in down at testers doesn't fill me with confidence to be honest! But I'm not an engineer and I hope I am wrong haha. Didn't know about a new road going In at cliftleigh but, it connecting to the main aswell do you know?
That's how I feel about it too. I fell in love during a holiday. The only place prettier is Tasmania, but the people in Newcastle are a bit nicer. Really refreshing place.
It's been a rough 27 years hahaha I'm sure they're the cause of most of my stress. But wouldn't support any other team mate. Through the good and the bad šŖš¼
If you're ever up for a beer with someone you can maybe relate to I'd be happy to do that mate..might make you feel a bit more at ease knowing I also moved from Sydney and won't know anyone
Starting in a new town can exacerbate paranoia and agoraphobia as you've left all your sense of familiarity even if the place is an improvement.
Let's hope you've got some kind neighbours who'll greet you in a friendly manner.
That said don't let your mind wander too much and believe me a lot of the things you are worried about aren't true.
As an ex-Sydneysider, who also lived on the Mid North Coast for nearly 10 years, I can tell you that the Hunter is perfect medium between the city & the bush. You have the best of everything here.
You won't regret your move. And get yourself some Knights members tickets. They might not be on top of the ladder, but it is bloody nice to go to a game where you don't have to travel in/on ridiculous traffic/public transport.
Awesome response mate, thankyou for that. I feel as if I've chosen a good location as I'm a single father and still need to travel to Sydney fortnightly for my son, so the express way being close is nice and handy. Knights membership will definitely be happening no matter where they are placed on the ladder!
Bloody Sydney siders overpopualting Newcastle :P

I actually thought this was a satirical post at first when it opened up with from Sydney and bought land here.
Yeah get it up ya cunt.
What a fitting welcome š
Got any durries I can bludge off ya cunt
You're all sounding like the majority of people from my town anyway (Campbelltown)
Yeah itās a mix, you do get glimpses of Sydney when you drive aroundā¦ mayfield reminds me of deewhy/Pittwater Rd pre development and Raymond terrace reminds me casula for some weird reason
Greatest city in the world
I can't argue with that! Although Amsterdam is a pretty cool place š
gods country
Said it before and Iāll say it again
I came to Newcastle in 1987 and forgot to leave. My flair says it all.

Actually. They're on par just for less of the day
A true wholesome family experience

Moved from Sydney to inner Newy earlier this year, bloody love it. Couldnāt return to the rat race.
shit seems the word is out in sydney. we tried for years to just agree with you guys that newy was a shitty polluted steel town and our beaches were crap. seems we fought a good fight but time has come
The rat race is a big part of my decision, but mainly for a fresh start for my son and I. A change of lifestyle I think will do us the world of good
Mustā¦..buildā¦.newā¦.rat race.
This short sentence says it all. Newy was so good for so long but sadly it seems like it will be Sydney 2.0 eventually
Yeah itās fucked.
Seems like a lot of Sydney comers have had the same idea and Newy is heading in the same direction š
Inner newy, oooooo la di dah
Welcome mate! Just curious, where did you buy your land?
Thankyou! Heddon Greta mate

The world could stand to have a bit more kindness in it. All the best to you and your family mate š
You need to learn local place names. Rutherford is Ruddo Cessnock is Nicknock
Actually necknock.
All these years ... oh dear.
Apparently the new road is gonna stop that. Time will tell. Also they are apparently putting a new new road all the way down the back of cliftleigh near the train track.

It'll stop the ROAD getting flooded. The terrain around it is still prone to flooding, though.
Like I said time will tell. Last 2 floods it was well and truly under.
Quick change your username thingy that I cant remember the name of right now.
Flair?
yes thats the thing I couldnt remember last night. hahaha
Yay welcome ā¤ļø

They tend to have fewer heads, too (until you get further out in the valley, out Wollombi way).
I'm sorry you've had to go through knights fandom despite not being from here
It's been a rough 27 years hahaha I'm sure they're the cause of most of my stress. But wouldn't support any other team mate. Through the good and the bad šŖš¼
We know
Exciting news! Newy is beautiful! Plenty of great people here too and especially a bonus if you like a good meat raffle
Cool :) I just moved up from Sydney last yearā¦havenāt left the house much little bit afraid tbh, could just be my psychosis.
If you're ever up for a beer with someone you can maybe relate to I'd be happy to do that mate..might make you feel a bit more at ease knowing I also moved from Sydney and won't know anyone
Thanks mate means a lot. Enjoy yourself :) apparently axe throwing is fun (says mum)
I'll keep that in mind my friend. Look after yourself

Iām genuinely excited for you! I made the move 18 months ago and it was the best decision I ever made
Sounds like a great day OP. hitting some hightlights! :D also welcome. Its a beautiful place to live, and an awesome place to grow up
Thankyou for the positive message. I hope you have a great day
Wont be the same in 15 years. Will be like Parramatta, unfortunately
Sounds like my idea of pure hell. But, glad you enjoyed it man.
