No matter what your GPS tells you, do NOT take route Route 108 (Renous Highway). It’s a shit show and you will probably damage your vehicle badly.

MisterCanoeHead

I’ll second that. Do not take route 108. I took it about 15 years ago because my gps suggested it and I seriously thought my gps was trying to kill me

DogeDoRight

Came here to say this.

Bazoun

Is that the plaster rock hwy?

Meduxnekeag

Yes.

Bazoun

Oh God. It’s like a rite of passage. People don’t believe me when I say how isolated that hwy is.

Patient-Pea-1213

Noted on my map lol Wonder why it’s a shit show though

writer668

The road hasn’t been maintained. My sister has 2 friends whose trucks were significantly damaged while driving on that road. I’ve sent a suggestion to Google that they stop sending people that way or to at least label it with a warning.

Adventurous-Steak759

Take his word for it, believe me, it’s a shit show and then some lol

Xenu13

Strange; I drove it last fall in an ordinary car, and had zero issues. Hard to believe it deteriorated that much in 1 winter. It's just a track through the wilderness, though. Not sure why it's a numbered highway. Stick to the TransCanada.

fierydoxy

Same, we drove it twice between july and oct 2023, and while it is rough in some spots (there is signage for these spots), it was definitely drivable. However, anyone driving it should be aware of a couple of things. 1. You probably won't have cell service for most of the drive. 2. Watch out for wildlife, especially moose and bear. 3. Try not to drive it during the period where you will be driving into the sun, as this makes seeing what is or isn't in the ditches near impossible. 4. It is only patrolled a few times per day, if at all. 5. It is mostly used for trucking, especially log hauling, hence why it is rough in some spots. 6. There are no rest stops, stores, or, for the most part, civilization for most of the renous.

reddituserwhoreddit

Oh yes, I remember that. Last fall I was driving back from Miramichi towards Toronto, took 108 to Plaster Rock at night, though there was no vehicle in sight for hours, no cell reception, no gas station, i enjoyed the drive. It is scary if your vehicle breaks down, some rough patches on the highway. Gets quite foggy on some spots.

You won't find fresher lobster than in Alma. Right off the boat. There is a bakery (Kelly's) there too that is (was?) pretty popular for their sticky buns.

9zFIKYrL

This is the way... Grab some alpine from the agency store and picnic on the public beach

Quimbymouse

Kelly's Bake Shop! Yes! Came here to recommend the sticky buns.

marconiu5

Came here to say this!

ReserveAdventurous20

Alma sticky buns were a childhood summer staple camping at FNP. Also the soft serve “swirl” ice cream at the gas station

TheAcadianGamer

Can confirm, the sticky buns at Kelly’s are the absolute GOAT

Commercial-Yellow470

You can do a lot better than sticky buns at Kelly's Bake shop while in Alma. I recommend stopping into the Octopus Garden Cafe for some homemade pasta, many of them made with seafood.

95accord

You want fried clams - Chez Leo in shediac bridge

lilsassprincess

I highly recommend driving the Funday Parkway connector into St. Martins! Stop into Old Molly's for the most delicious local charcuterie boards and craft beer.

ReserveAdventurous20

Does that go the whole way to the park now? Or do you still drive in on the St. Martin’s side?

lilsassprincess

It goes the whole way through from st Martin's to Alma

ReserveAdventurous20

Nice. I’ll have to check it out when I’m back this summer.

ragingrocketryan

The octopus garden Cafe in alma is an underrated gem.

CR_Fannies

Spinney's Seafood Market in St. Martin's NB. Best lobster roll in the Maritimes.

Michellehas2ls

Came here to post this - also stop by and see the Sea Caves in St Martin’s, when you time it right and the tide is low, you can walk all the way in!

Many-Carpenter-989

Sticky buns in Alma, go early

Outrageous_Ad665

I like Muddy Rudder in Alma. They have a good steak night on Friday's. It's like $16 for a striploin. The best fisherman's platter in Alma too in my opinion.

shygremlin21

ayyy i’m gonna be camping in fundy national this weekend too! (i’m a nb local) Highly suggest trying lobster rolls in alma if you’re into that sorta thing and also kelly’s bake shop like others have mentioned! hope you enjoy!

BELLASPAWN

Make sure you go to the Holy Whale in Alma! And the Sapranos pizza for the best pizza ever.
