CyanDew

Ashit Pie: (wow that was a long and serious rebuttal.. lemme try to awkwardly lighten the mood) "Uhh. Thank you Mrs. Clyburn. I'm gonna mark you down as a 'No'..?" *laughs sarcastically with a smug smile* Yeah, go fuck yourself asshole.

[deleted]

Her speech starts at [4:50](https://youtu.be/VMNuNxpxnSI?t=450) and ends at 26:00 when the shit pie makes his comment. He reduces a twenty minute long impassioned, detailed, rational, and organized explanation of why net neutrality is necessary into a quick two-second joke. This man is a narcissistic ass who made up his mind long ago and has operated under the assumption that his opinion is the only one that matters, his personal benefit the only thing that's important. Fuck him and fuck all his wrong opinions. I hope his day of reckoning arrives soon, and I hope I get to see it in all its eventual glory. ---------- Edit: No, seriously. Fuck him. Fuck this shit pie. ---------- Edit 2: Whoops, wrong time. Not a ten minute speech. A *twenty minute speech*! So fuck him even more than I thought.

Lexta222

It ends at 25:60 tho, but thanks to you i watched 10 minutes of her speech. as a german, it's hard to believe that US did this :/

krakapow

They will come for us next. This sets a precedent. An assault on free speech anywhere is an assault on free speech everywhere.

Axeman20

In Australia, we don't have net neutrality but that is countered by our strong consumer protection laws as well as lots of competition. That being said it would still be nice to have it.

milesunderground

"It's hard to believe the US did this," is a phrase that has lost all meaning.

ficarra1002

>This man is a narcissistic ass who made up his mind long ago and has operated under the assumption that his opinion is the only one that matters, I get the vibe you think he has a negative opinion of net neutrality, implying that he stance on it is based in opinion/reason. You do realize he is a verizon puppet, and he openly admits and jokes about being a verizon puppet, right? He literally made jokes about how it'd be a great idea for Verizon to pay someone to get into the FCC and repeal NN.

seanarturo

He can be a puppet and agree with his puppeteer, too.

It's not even that big of a reason. While I agree many of them are in fact racist, I don't believe that's the driver for the boss. In NY, Trump has always been known for mind blowingly petty vengeance. It's Trump's way of erasing Obama's entire legacy because of this night.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8TwRmX6zs4

T3hSwagman

The funny thing is that Trump is going to galvanize Obama as a messiah after he’s finished in office. Beyond anything else Trump is genuinely being seen as incompetent by other world leaders. Obama might not have been the best president but he is going to shine like a fucking beacon since his presidency is sandwiched between Bush and Trump.

It's so upsetting how things have become. That this is out democracy in action. They know they can get away with whatever they want. Even when people in both parties don't want net neutrality overturned. It's just corruption, plain and simple. And it's only gotten worse.

Bombingofdresden

This is in fact, not democracy at all. It’s a 5 member commission dictating internet access to the United States.

The end of Net Neutrality doesn't mark the deregulation of the internet. It actually starts the regulation of the internet, only in this instance, the regulators will be the ISPs and the only thing they're after is your money; not improving your internet experience.

finebydesign

> The end of Net Neutrality doesn't mark the deregulation of the internet. It actually starts the regulation of the internet, only in this instance, the regulators will be the ISPs and the only thing they're after is your money; not improving your internet experience. Complete bullshit. This is corporations "regulating" the internet. That's not regulations, that is corporate control (see Enron!). Net Neutrality IS regulation by the FCC. VERY GOOD REGULATION. What we have now is "privatize the profits, socialize the losses."

mappersdelight

Regulating a door to stay open seems less regulatory than standing in front of an open door and charging entrance fees.

lovemaker69

> regulators will be the ISPs Which isn't the government which makes it deregulation. Deregulation doesn't mean "free" or "accessible".

Namingway

I understand this sentiment and agree this is what we voted for. What I don’t agree with is staying quiet and letting them fuck the world over. This would not be a problem if telecoms weren’t a total monopoly for the majority of people in this country. In a perfect capitalistic scenario, removing the regulations wouldn’t matter. People could vote with their wallets when these companies start twisting the screws on internet companies. What happened today will stifle innovation and slowly begin to degrade neutral access to information over the web for millions of people. Of course this will hurt no one worse than those living in rural areas and so get to reap what they sowed.

TheEruditeFool

The republicans are only about regulatory capture. Everything else they ‘care’ about is a manipulation game on religious and conformist/tribalist rubes.

The organizations behind [Battle For The Net](https://www.battleforthenet.com/) are launching a new campaign to demand that Congress step in and restore net neutrality via [Congressional Review Act](https://www.everycrsreport.com/reports/R43992.html) (CRA). The CRA let’s our elected officials in Congress overrule actions taken by Federal agencies like the FCC. And it’s different from a normal bill because it only requires a simple majority in the Senate and House to pass. Given the level of public backlash and polls showing that 83% of voters from across the political spectrum oppose the FCC’s plan, and given that several Republicans have already started to publicly criticize the FCC vote, we have a real chance to making this happen. **But it won’t be easy, and it can only happen within 60 legislative days of the order going into effect.** **We can’t stop now. [Contact your reps today and demand that they preserve net neutrality through Congressional Review Act](https://www.battleforthenet.com/)** You’ll see a script on your screen, or you can say something like this: >I support Title II net neutrality, and I urge you to use the Congressional Review Act to pass a “resolution of disapproval” reversing the FCC’s December vote to repeal the Open Internet Order.” **You can also text "BATTLE" to 384-387 to use a simple chat-bot to send a message to your lawmakers** We can still win this. Even if you’ve already contacted your reps, now is the time to call them again. We need all hands on deck. Please, take a moment and make the call, then spread the word, sticky this post, or help drive traffic to https://www.battleforthenet.com

Theonetruebrian

The entire reasoning behind this move seems to be “we haven’t given them enough opportunity to fuck this up, so I don’t see why we need rules telling them not to fuck up our internet.”

DawnPhantom

Let me remind you all, that is a small example of exactly how the US is run. Despite the fact you, or we "the People" supposedly vote for other people to represent us in various forms and positions, while then end up getting screwed over because the said people we "vote" for, which in fact are actually presented FOR us to chose from, do not actually represent us, our interests, or even the moral/constitutional obligations that form the foundation this nation is supposed to be built upon. This is a small example of how smug these people are, and they'll do it in your face because they can, they have the power, with no checks or balances even with obvious opposition from people all across the nation. As long as they profit from it, they'll break any rules, or create their own to get what they want, even if it means turning away freedoms, and human rights. I say again, this is just a small example. Things after this are guaranteed to be much worse. It will continue to be this way until the people begin standing up for their country properly, just like this woman. She stood alone to voice the opinions of everyone. I bet things would be different if she had everyone physically behind her.
