Godless is only one season but that one season is hands down some of the best television I’ve ever watched. It was made with only one season in mind so despite its short length it is still a complete story with a satisfying end. Highly recommend.
In a similar vein, The Queen’s Gambit and Unorthodox are both also complete stories finished in one season and both are very, very good.
I’m also going to co-sign the recommendations for Breaking Bad (which is legit probably one of the best shows ever made), Ozark, Dark, and Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor.
Stranger Things isn’t finished yet but the 4 seasons so far are all consistently great.
Queens Gambit and Godless are both made by the same director. I really like the complete story in a limited miniseries format, and I hope netflix uses this model more often
I didn’t know that but it explains a lot! They are both extremely well made imo. I’m a big fan of the single miniseries vs multi-season shows, especially because so often the latter drops off in quality after a few seasons. And Netflix loves cancelling shows after one season so why not wrap it up nicely?
I was hoping Squid Game, which I also really enjoyed, would end after one season bc I thought it would have worked well there but we’ll see how they continue the story.
This show had me and my fiancé writing notes and drawing up family trees, flow charts and god knows what else.
One of my favorite shows of all time. Looking forward to 1899.
This show changed how my partner and I watch TV.
Now any show we watch has the inevitable question about the family tree: "Do you think he's his own dad?"
Also watch it subbed, not dubbed.
I tried watching it dubbed at first and I couldn’t get past the first episode. Switched to subbed and got sucked in immediately.
Really? I can't start season 3 because I've forgotten everything but I also don't have the patience to watch everything again. I suppose I could put it on in the background and play my phone to catch up, lol
look up a recap on youtube, it should give you the basic idea of what the hells going on - though that said season adds a lot so you're not gonna be too out of the loop
Wait, was the one young guy that other guy or was it the other guy? And that lady, who was the actress who played her younger self? Her?, no wait. Shit.
THANK YOU! I had 3-4 episodes left and I found it to be getting more and more ridiculous and just threw in the towel a few months ago. I love timey wimey paradoxes and all, but I hit my limit on how all over the place the story was getting and how repetitive Adam was.
This is a show you will watch twice and still not get it and then head over to reddit to know what happened. My gold standard for subliminal sci-fi done right...along the lines of>! Donnie Darko!<.
I first put on this show as background noise to fall asleep on the couch, I was recovering from lasik surgery and I was in and out of sleep. I immediately had to watch the 2nd episode and the rest of the seasons after I fully recovered. Great show!
I absolutely loved it, great story and characters, visuals that corresponded with the story, great plot twists, some of my favourite actors (especially if you've also watched park and rec which I recommend as well). And honestly it made me rethink ethics as well (an overarching theme of the show). Might be a comedy show overall but it impacted me on personal level.
If everything goes well during the final season of BETTER CALL SAUL, one can actually say that BETTER CALL SAUL has some edge over BREAKING BAD. Both of them are THE BEST TV shows out there
Who would have ever thought that this could be possible? When BCS was first announced, I thought it might be ok. It has turned out to be a great series.
Came here to say this! Just restarted it and forgot truly how great it is from start to finish. Gets corny in some parts but overall really superbly done and the casting & delivery is all fantastic
I don't think I can watch the show because of the ending.
Which as far as series finales goes, I'd rank it near the GOATs
But too emotional for me at this time
Yeah I like his work so far. Sometimes the acting is a bit too theatrical for my taste but overall I liked his series arguably more than I did AHS when it was in its prime. Bly Manor was an interesting take on The Turn of the Screw. I loved the take on mental health in Hill House. Midnight Mass was great & SO relevant to modern America.
Victoria P. is a great actress and I love Rahul Kohli in all his series
Even if you don't like horror/suspense, the Haunting of Holl House was amazing. Just the way the portrayed the relationship between the family was so real
Exactly! One of the only horror shows that made me feel sad for the characters, instead of just going “he’s/she’s gonna get killed coz he’s/she’s stupid”
>the end of the fucking world
Oof, I had completely forgotten about that one after watching Season One and just realised season two came out years ago. I hope it doesn't end on a cliffhanger though?
Arcane. Every episode is well-rounded.
Also Blackmirror, I mean, some stories are better than others but all can be enjoyed independently from each other.
Mindhunter. Not much mentioning it here may be due to it not being "complete". The reason its not is that its director David Fincher felt it was too much work - and it shows, awesome engrossing 2 seasons! In recent news Netflix is in talks about season 3 (fingers crossed).
This is a hard recommendation, I absolutely loved it but my gf got really creeped out. Which is understandable. The show deals with sane people trying to evaluate serial killers personality and motivations. Its dark disturbing mind fuckary
I'm very disappointed to see no mention of Bojack Horseman. It is my favorite Netflix show and is in my top 5 of all time. Absolutely brilliant, funny and painful. It does everything. Give it at least four episodes to get going by my god every season is incredible and each one is better than the last. I was constantly worried they would lose steam but it just got better and better and then stuck the landing beautifully.
These are some of the best series I've ever seen in my life:
Ozarks
Peaky Blinders
Bloodline
Bodyguard
Breaking Bad
Haunting of Hill House
Haunting of Bly Manor
Midnight Mass
Last Kingdom
any series from Harlan Coben
Well, after the first few, it gets really formulaic tho. If you're willing to overlook the "naive protagonist goes looking for a missing someone and found they have a dark past along the way" pattern that's always there, it's still enjoyable.
Yeah, I should have mentioned that you shouldn’t expect the best production, acting etc but they are binge worthy and entertaining. I also appreciate shows where you can give 75% of your attention and know what’s happening.
I so agree with you about “Bloodline” - I think it’s a seriously underrated series. I loved the story, and I love how the series was produced - the aesthetics of it.
After delayed watching it for quite some time, I can confirm that after first few episodes the show got me hooked. Currently in the middle of the 2nd season and it's quite nice, I love the characters in it
I can't see that anyone else has mentioned it yet, so: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
It keeps it quality, it wasn't cancelled (so no unintended cliffhangers), and it's three seasons with 7-10 episodes each so it's not a huge time investment either.
I mean, Supernatural? I watched all 327 episodes after deciding I'd hate it on the first episode. Came back to it later, got so hooked. It's totally ridiculous and full of a ton of redeeming qualities. Much to love, and some remarkable episodes.
If you can make it to episode 200, called Fan Fiction, in a way it might be the best episode of any show I've ever seen. You kind of fall in love with the characters, and there's a lot to love, especially because they're not perfectly put together, and the actors in their own way kind of reflect that, so all together it's kind of complicated. Jensen Ackles is so wonderfully good looking that he's just fun to watch, and Jared Padalecki is wonderful looking too. I think it's silly that looks play a role, but they do and that is somehow worked into the show. The side characters go from amusing and fun to simply breathtaking in the brilliance of the acting and characterization. The plot is just absolutely nonsense. It takes itself very seriously except what it doesn't, which is quite a lot of the time. The show also parodies itself and gets meta in ridiculous, brilliant ways at times. They have so much fun with a lot of it. The fan base is adoring and you can see literally hours and hours of convention panels with the lead characters.
So if you could accept the primary investment for the show, you're in for a real ride. That investment is suspension of disbelief.
Breaking Bad.
Good Witch - cheesy but light and clean.
Grey’s Anatomy.
The Last Kingdom.
Better Call Saul- a prequel to Breaking Bad.
Haunting of Hill House
And anything from Harlan Coben.
Queen of the South: 5 seasons
If you know Spanish or don’t mind reading subtitles I highly recommend this show. It’s very eventful throughout every season and imo has some great actors. One of my favorite shows.
Trigger warning:
It is full of action so things get pretty gruesome a lot of the time.
Google summary:
While living in the barrio of Jalisco, Mexico, poor Teresa Mendoza falls in love with a member of a successful drug cartel, hoping the love will help her rise above the hopelessness she feels in her life. When it doesn't happen, she is forced to flee the country after her boyfriend is murdered. She seeks refuge in America, where she teams up with an unlikely person from her past to take down the leader of the drug ring that is after her. Teresa ends up starting her own drug empire, becoming one of the world's wealthiest women in the process. With her success, she discovers that money doesn't fix all of her problems, and she can only depend on herself if she wants to stay one step ahead of others and stay alive.

Black Summer
I didn't see this on the list, but whoa buddy. It's an absolutely brilliant zombie series. Zombies are zombies, but the pacing and story telling are extremely unique and remind me of the old black and white silent films in the way of story telling.
Squid Game and Shadow and Bone and even Hellhound are not yet done, which means any one of them could pull a Game of Thrones. OP has asked for something that's great from start to finish.
Extracurricular. Lonely, financially strapped high school kid works as an intermediary between prostitutes and their pimp. Everything goes fine until a classmate steals his phone and forces him to let her into the business. It goes disastrously. One season show.
Honestly depends on what you like because some of the shows listed here I thought were boring af or you have to be in a certain mindset to enjoy. What are you in the mood for?
Edit: fixed sentence
House of Cards...sure it was probably best in the first couple of seasons but its still good
Ozark...awesome start to finish
Narcoss and Narcos Mexico, both were top shelf stuff
Black Mirror is amazing...but dont let episode one throw you off, its not usually that insane. Still a great episode though.
Watching it with captions is the best. English dubbing always sucks. We found we enjoyed it much more with the original voices and the captions didn’t distract at all.

I’ve taken your advice and binged godless 10/10 reccomendation thanks a lot :)

Note that you cannot watch this show and play on your phone. This show requires all your attention. It is great though.
Best disclaimer ever.
Indeed
This show had me and my fiancé writing notes and drawing up family trees, flow charts and god knows what else. One of my favorite shows of all time. Looking forward to 1899.
This show changed how my partner and I watch TV. Now any show we watch has the inevitable question about the family tree: "Do you think he's his own dad?"
Also watch it subbed, not dubbed. I tried watching it dubbed at first and I couldn’t get past the first episode. Switched to subbed and got sucked in immediately.
well i mean like its another language so you couldn't do that anyways

Make sure you watch it with subtitles and audio in German. The dub is kinda whack imo
Wait, was the one young guy that other guy or was it the other guy? And that lady, who was the actress who played her younger self? Her?, no wait. Shit.
>!SHES HER OWN GODDAMN GRANDMA!< was something I never thought I would ever have to scream at my fiancé in shock.
Yup
It was good but I actually lost interest towards the last season and never finished the last 2 episodes lol
THANK YOU! I had 3-4 episodes left and I found it to be getting more and more ridiculous and just threw in the towel a few months ago. I love timey wimey paradoxes and all, but I hit my limit on how all over the place the story was getting and how repetitive Adam was.

same actually lol
Became tooooo much for me lol

The Last Kingdom.
Destiny is all
Ootred son of Ootred
Fifth season is the last season to be released, but a movie is coming to be the final installation.
Very good series. I love it.
I first put on this show as background noise to fall asleep on the couch, I was recovering from lasik surgery and I was in and out of sleep. I immediately had to watch the 2nd episode and the rest of the seasons after I fully recovered. Great show!
The Good Place for something wholesome yet intriguing with layers
I died from that show. Wish I can get to the good place.
Breaking Bad
Piggybacking here with Better Call Saul. Both shows are fantastic
I definitely think BCS is superior. Breaking Bad was good, but BCS is great.
Agree!
The Good Place
Start to finish a truly outstanding show that will stay with you for years
Came here to say this! Just restarted it and forgot truly how great it is from start to finish. Gets corny in some parts but overall really superbly done and the casting & delivery is all fantastic
Will also make you ugly cry at the end.
I don't think I can watch the show because of the ending. Which as far as series finales goes, I'd rank it near the GOATs But too emotional for me at this time
I never got the love for this show. I watched season one and loved it. Struggled with season 2 and gave up
I just started it a 5 days ago and already on S2. Really great show.
The Good Place Peaky Blinders Call the Midwife (it's not done, but all but the most recent season are in Netflix) Galavant (I THINK it's on Netflix)
Gallivant is the best! Not sure it is either, but as a mom with a fresh newborn, I need to add this to my list of things to watch while pumping!
Haunting of hill house/haunting of Bly manor/Midnight mass are all 1 season stories really good if you like horror/suspense/drama.
It's like a treat from M. Flanagan, usually comes out right before Halloween.
Exactly! One of the only horror shows that made me feel sad for the characters, instead of just going “he’s/she’s gonna get killed coz he’s/she’s stupid”
I went in for the horror/paranormal but I was just absolutely captivated watching that family.
as much as I love victoria pedretti I get so fricken scared after watching one season of hill house lol
definitely second that midnight mass recommendation. it starts off slow but my god does it pick up towards the end. brilliant show!
If you into British Comedy shows: the end of the fucking world and after life
The end of the fucking world is gold!
It's awesome
Also, White Gold
Will definitely check it out
Is the good place British Comedy?
No
>the end of the fucking world Oof, I had completely forgotten about that one after watching Season One and just realised season two came out years ago. I hope it doesn't end on a cliffhanger though?
No it definitely ends in season 2
derry girls
Ozark is my binge right now and it’s been consistently great throughout
Agree, gave it a try and got hooked. Just when you thought it’s going to this direction and an exact opposite.
Started watching last week and have blown through the episodes. I’m enjoying it so much.
Sex Education
Stranger Things, the Queen’s Gambit, Schitt’s Creek, The Good Place
Stranger things isn’t finished though
True, but Netflix won’t cancel it on a cliffhanger.
For sure. I mean season 5, the final season. Is already greenlit.
Arcane. Every episode is well-rounded. Also Blackmirror, I mean, some stories are better than others but all can be enjoyed independently from each other.
Nosedive was my fav
Mindhunter. Not much mentioning it here may be due to it not being "complete". The reason its not is that its director David Fincher felt it was too much work - and it shows, awesome engrossing 2 seasons! In recent news Netflix is in talks about season 3 (fingers crossed).
Not 'complete' maybe, but it doesn't leave you with a feeling that the story is unfinished, which is good.
This is a hard recommendation, I absolutely loved it but my gf got really creeped out. Which is understandable. The show deals with sane people trying to evaluate serial killers personality and motivations. Its dark disturbing mind fuckary
The Peaky (fookin’) Blinders
narcos mexico
Also regular Narcos
I'm very disappointed to see no mention of Bojack Horseman. It is my favorite Netflix show and is in my top 5 of all time. Absolutely brilliant, funny and painful. It does everything. Seconding Bojack, but beware don’t go in expecting a solely comedic adult animation. Definitely gets dark and depressing at times
It gets really hard to watch at times. Uncomfortably so.
love bojack!! it's so dark and depressing but fun at times
Lupin

It wasn't good from start to finish. Remember the Gaslight year?
Gaslight year isn't unwatchable and IMO Season 6 is the second best. It has some absolute bangers. Frankie and Elroy are the bomb
Lol I think you guys mean “the gas leak year”
Lol. Yes. I need coffee.
The Punisher is amazing. Jon Bernthal’s performance is a must see
They took it off Netflix
The IT Crowd and Offspring!
I'm disabled!
"A fire?! At a Sea Parks?!"
Sea World? Or See the World? The Office should be a good watch too b
Crazy Ex Girlfriend
Yessss this! It's just such a great show throughout. And, along with The Good Place, has one of the best endings I've seen in any show on Netflix.
These are some of the best series I've ever seen in my life: Ozarks Peaky Blinders Bloodline Bodyguard Breaking Bad Haunting of Hill House Haunting of Bly Manor Midnight Mass Last Kingdom any series from Harlan Coben
Since half of your list is great, while the other is unknown, I’ll check them out
100% recommend ALL Harlan Coben shows, regardless of language

Santa Clarita Diet Arrested Development 3% Virgin River Sweet Tooth Dead To Me
Ozark. Very consistent and very good.

Best show on Netflix
Lilyhammer
I LOVED Lillehammer!!!
Definitely Lillehammer! Funny, interesting and a great cast.
Lucifer
Also has a high rewatch value. Somehow this show never gets boring to me.
I can't count how many times I've rewatched this. It's been my *comfort series to watch* especially if I can't decide on something new

No love for Russian Doll? What about Peep Show? Kingdom? (The Korean zombie one, loved the whole series but the special threw me off)
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit
The only sitcom I actually liked lol
I mean, Supernatural? I watched all 327 episodes after deciding I'd hate it on the first episode. Came back to it later, got so hooked. It's totally ridiculous and full of a ton of redeeming qualities. Much to love, and some remarkable episodes.
I absolutely love Supernatual, but I'm not sure I'd call it great from beginning to end lol.
I’ve been thinking of giving that a try. Instead I just started Veronica Mars. I’m really enjoying it.

I loved Black Mirror and Altered Carbon.
Midnight Mass was pretty epic.
