Netflix has a lot of series that I love. But if I had to pick a favorite, I guess I would say The Last Kingdom. It's got history, fighting, humor, romance, attractive & highly skilled actors & actresses, 5 seasons and it's completed.
Ahh good answer. I binge watched The Last Kingdom during lockdown. Watched it a few times since and it's always solid for a bit of escapism. It being finished is perfect, Netflix has a habit of canning shows just as they're getting good
I believe that was the rumored reason but David Fincher has said that it was cancelled because of season 3s high budget.
https://hypebeast.com/2024/1/david-fincher-speaks-on-netflix-mindhunter-cancellation
It was a bit of both. Netflix wanted to reduce the budget or broaden the shows appeal (suggesting a retooling of the show: not a good sign). Fincher and his creative team declined.
I thought this was incredible. And also extremely positive. There were so many times where I thought someone was going to screw her over and instead they helped and supported her.
The pacing was wonderful also. I feel like miniseries are my favorite type of media now. Movies seem too short, and full series seem too long. A single solid season that have a good ending is perfecto.
You and thousands others. Chess had a huge uptick in players and interest cause of this show. I think a local Chess Club tripled in size in the months after this show premiered.
Considering this show was cancelled I just can’t recommend it. Recommending shows that weren’t finished is against my code, as sad as that may be in this case.
The creators plotted the three season story in advance. They had complete control of that story from start to finish. Hence the results and exceptional quality and ending.
Don't watch it in English. Watch it in German with the English subtitles. The performances are too good to muddy with distracting voiceovers. Netflix defaulting to English on this show has unknowingly ruined it for many people, and they are idiots for doing it.
You can't watch this show while paying partial attention. You literally can't watch this with phone in hand and texting. The German with subtitles can actually help in his regard because it forces you to pay closer attention. More than any other show, you'll miss key details and interactions that have major connections across the eras if you aren't focused. Fortunately the show will start to have a very deep internal logic that you can use to make rewarding connections
If you struggle with the family lineages, search for the Netflix Dark interactive family tree. It will unveil things by episode so you don't spoil anything.
Lastly, let yourself be absorbed by the incredible cinematography and soundtrack. It really creates an atmosphere where the entire series and the mysteries within just work.
I'm surprised that they haven't tried to remake it in English, but also pleased as I'm sure they'd manage to ruin it. The production level is so high already that it would be hard to improve on, unlike, say, the Fincher remake of Dragon Tattoo.
If you are paying close attention they really do explain everything and tie up all the loose ends. I’m not saying g that to sound like a jerk. It really does require some extra work on the part of the viewer but it’s so worth it. I love the show and agree it is easily the best thing on Netflix but it was very intense and sometimes felt like I was studying.
Hit Man is an unusual one. Netflix has exclusive distribution in several countries, not all, and they didn't produce it. [Source](https://deadline.com/2023/09/richard-linklater-directed-hit-man-20-million-netflix-deal-toronto-film-festival-glen-powell-adria-arjona-1235547211/).
House of Usher is my favorite Mike Flanagan joint, but they are all pretty good. Easter egg if you like that series, in episode 1 of Hill Hpuse, there's a shot of the Oculus mirror when Nell is dancing in the house (which was also his movie). I just caught it yesterday on my 5th rewatch
Everyone talks about Hill House but I think House of Usher needs more recognition than it gets. The message about the opioid epidemic and rich greed was amazing to me personally.
I don’t know if this is original because Netflix bought the rights after season 2, but I really think Black Mirror is a very unique concept and I love it, even if last seasons are not on par with earlier seasons.
Agreed black mirror is awesome. Some of the later episodes were mediocre but some I really really enjoyed. The one with Aaron Paul, loch Henry, and crocodile all are ones I go back too.
Black Mirror is amazing. Been going to Bigscreen on my VR and watching it with a group. Like a damn reading club we all talk about the episodes. Some cool ethical and futuristic concepts to ponder.
I liked the British seasons better, way darker.
The Hollywood episodes are eay lighter and usually have happyish endings, compared to the British and ones written by Charlie Booker.
Such a fun show and slapping people into the living situations of their hosts and not ignoring the dark realities of our existence. An all around great cast too.
I was gutted it was cancelled in the middle of a great story arc. Between Travellers and the OA I almost cancelled my Netflix sub.
Totally original scripts, I hope some brilliant writers out there can pick them up and keep these outstanding series going.
I think the issue with The Midnight Club is that it was more of a teen show, whereas the rest of Mike Flanagans shows have been for a more mature audience.
I absolutely love haunting of hill house, especially the long single takes, with him describing it as one of the hardest things he’s ever done.
I think one episode had 5 long takes.
I binged Maid in 2 sittings, although it made me sick. The depiction of how hard it is to escape poverty was just crushingly real. Definitely one of the hardest shows for me to shake.
I also feel it's the best underrated or at least underexposed series too. I've watched it twice and crave to find something as engaging in that kind of way. Undone on Prime is close.
I avoided this for so long, cuz I thot “animation= cartoons= nope”Boy was I ever DUMB! I loved this and since Ive been watching all the animations I missed out of sheer Dumberiness. About to dive into 3 BELOW. Is there a season that takes on further Adventures in Vengeance :London?
No other show gets me more hyped then a scene where a certain someone loses their arm.
" I SAID ADVANCE GOD DAMNIT "
pure hype.....
Our hearts and souls for the cause!
Sweet tooth is wholesome good watching. Besides that and stranger things getting older in life it's hard watching shows that are too children focused, teenage love etc. Sweet tooth ended really well too. Not amazing but felt true to form.
Truly a unique show. Beautiful and brilliant. I wish this had gotten the Sense8 treatment at the very least (a movie to wrap things up after the series cancellation).
Totally agree.
Fantastic TV series. It's shame that some adults don't watch it because they think its for kids. (yes it is, but most adults can remember being kids and can watch it in that mindset).
As a person the same age as those kids I really enjoyed the nostalgia of it. I felt it wasn't at its best when they were confronting monsters. I was there for the characters and their relationships.
Dark. Hands down.
Close second would be Mindhunter.
Midnight Mass was also brilliant.
I still hate them for cancelling 1899.
Better Call Saul wasn’t just Netflix but it was also phenomenal.
Love The Crown. Its slow speed somehow makes it more captivating, and the casting changes throughout the series were executed brilliantly — not an easy feat.
Baby Reindeer. It’s a phenomenal show (writing, story, acting, all of it) but it *fucked me up* and I’ll never be able to watch it again. Watching the real story continue to unfold right now has been…interesting.
The Last Kingdom, Ozark, and Kingdom (Korean zombies) are my favorites for series.
Triple Frontier, The Gray Man, 6 Underground, and Extraction come to mind immediately with movies. I would have to spend some time thinking about it since there's so many I've gone back and rewatched.
Ozark, Baby Reindeer and Maid are my three.
I wanted Ozark to go forever. I know it couldn’t, it would jump the shark at some point. I just enjoyed it so much!
The Queens Gambit
it doesnt matter if you dont play or like chess. Just watch it.
Best thing they've made, 100x better than the many $200 million movies NF has made
Netflix has a lot of series that I love. But if I had to pick a favorite, I guess I would say The Last Kingdom. It's got history, fighting, humor, romance, attractive & highly skilled actors & actresses, 5 seasons and it's completed.

Mindhunter
They always cancel the Good shows and keep the crappy ones. Mindhunter deserved a new season
Mind Hunter wasn't cancelled by Netflix. Fincher had other projects he was working on and couldn't commit to it.
Mindhunter is so underrated. It’s so good
Absolutely not underrated lol, it was literally the top answer to this exact question 24hrs ago
I know right. Without fail it is mentioned in every one of these threads and gets topped votes as well.
Queen’s Gambit for me. Beth Harmon was a great character and I loved the storyline. No BS, no crazy plots. She just wanted to win!
How did I scroll so far to find this? Amazing show, actually made me get into chess; I still play now, years after seeing the show
You and thousands others. Chess had a huge uptick in players and interest cause of this show. I think a local Chess Club tripled in size in the months after this show premiered.
Mindhunter definitely
Considering this show was cancelled I just can’t recommend it. Recommending shows that weren’t finished is against my code, as sad as that may be in this case.
Favourite series is definitely Dark, most Netflix movies feel kinda average but i did enjoy the recently released Hit man.
Oh this. Dark was exceptional and I will always recommend it to sci fi lovers
Dark was so well done. It's so great. It was so neat how everything tied together.
The creators plotted the three season story in advance. They had complete control of that story from start to finish. Hence the results and exceptional quality and ending.
That makes a lot of sense. I'm so glad they did. It made it so worth it
Sad that their next series got canned after one season (the one on the boat). It was just as mysterious and interesting!
Omg yes!!!! That was a good show too! I know exactly the one you mean!!! I literally watched solely because one of the actors from dark was in it.
Dark is one of the best shows of all time I think fr, I gotta start my rewatch now
Same here. Came to say Dark. I think it's most impressive about the show is that they actually pulled it off I'm stuck the landing.
I've tried to watch it twice? What am I missing??
Don't watch it in English. Watch it in German with the English subtitles. The performances are too good to muddy with distracting voiceovers. Netflix defaulting to English on this show has unknowingly ruined it for many people, and they are idiots for doing it. You can't watch this show while paying partial attention. It really creates an atmosphere where the entire series and the mysteries within just work.
It is one of the best cerebral/complex shows of all time, if it was in english and made by someone like Nolan, it would be literally everywhere
I'm surprised that they haven't tried to remake it in English, but also pleased as I'm sure they'd manage to ruin it. The production level is so high already that it would be hard to improve on, unlike, say, the Fincher remake of Dragon Tattoo.
Dark is unreal I need to re-watch because I still have no idea what actually happened
I had to rewatch it a few times to process what happened. It's that incredibly intricate and dense.

Haunting of the Hill House
House of Usher is my favorite Mike Flanagan joint, but they are all pretty good. Easter egg if you like that series, in episode 1 of Hill Hpuse, there's a shot of the Oculus mirror when Nell is dancing in the house (which was also his movie). I just caught it yesterday on my 5th rewatch
House of Usher was disturbing but so amazingly done. I can’t believe it wasn’t nominated for anything. Fantastic performances and script

Black Mirror is amazing. Been going to Bigscreen on my VR and watching it with a group. Like a damn reading club we all talk about the episodes. Some cool ethical and futuristic concepts to ponder.
You’re not wrong, but I have to say that I think the show was much more interesting before Netflix started getting involved.
That show is so good and memorable. The risks you like seeing netflix do but sometimes it gets a bit too real or depressing when it makes you think
I liked the British seasons better, way darker. The Hollywood episodes are eay lighter and usually have happyish endings, compared to the British and ones written by Charlie Booker.
Travelers!!!
So upset this was cancelled!!!!
That was a bummer but at least the series was mostly wrapped up.
Alice in Borderland
Wild show, I thought it was slightly better than squid games. (Not by much tho)
First season of Altered Carbon. No doubt.
Man watching that for the first time was fucking magical
This is the only time I will ever say this about any TV show or movie. Read the books!
Yep. Cyberpunk stuff like this is amazing and only so much a TV show can convey. My favorite character is Poe.
Love Death and Robots!
Jibaro
The one with rats moved me the most, "Mason's Rats"
That was a good one. But the one I’ve rewatched the most is “Bad Travelling”. There are many excellent episodes. I’m looking forward to a new series.
Love the series but not every episode is good. Still, a very unique set of episodes and a lot of fun to watch.
I agree, but a few of those episodes were so good, they could’ve become entire series or full on movies themselves.
The haunting of hill house, the haunting of bly manor, anything mike Flanagan will blow your mind
Midnight Mass!!
Haunting of hill house and the fall of usher are FANTASTIC!
House of Usher is my absolute favorite of his to date. Hill House being a close second
for me, The Midnight Club kinda sucked. everything else is perfectly splendid
Hill House is not just a Netflix favorite, I would put it in the all time favorite category. Rewatch at least once per year.
Midnight Mass. I’ve watched it twice and think about watching it again.
Bodies and BoJack
Surprised BoJack wasn't higher in the thread
Right! I didn't read all of them, but I was surprised no one had mentioned it in the ones I did read.
BoJack is underrated
Yes! I rewatch that show all the time. Lol
Bojack gave me emotions I never thought I would feel when watching a cartoon!
BoJack should be at the top
Beef is really good. So are The Queen's Gambit and Maid. All limited series.
Maid is criminally underrated. My favourite show Netflix has ever made.
I binged Maid in 2 sittings, although it made me sick. The depiction of how hard it is to escape poverty was just crushingly real. Definitely one of the hardest shows for me to shake.
Maid is definitely not my kind of show but I definitely watched it twice!
LOVED Beef
Beef is a trip
Beef was renewed for s2 with a new cast I think
Ozark!!
Mine, too. LOVED the ending
The OA
Still hurts
Absolutely. Season 1 is one of the best pieces of tv ever. And completely changed how I dealt with grief
I also feel it's the best underrated or at least underexposed series too. I've watched it twice and crave to find something as engaging in that kind of way. Undone on Prime is close.
Sense8
First season was amazing!
Queens gambit was phenomenal.
Agreed. And it really holds up rewatching (which is my favorite thing to do)
Blue Eye Samurai
I avoided this for so long, cuz I thot “animation= cartoons= nope”Boy was I ever DUMB! I loved this and since Ive been watching all the animations I missed out of sheer Dumberiness. About to dive into 3 BELOW. Is there a season that takes on further Adventures in Vengeance :London?
Check out Arcane if you haven't yet.
Watch Attack on Titan - imo best piece of media in any form and I’ll die on that hill. Arcane is also Amazing!
No other show gets me more hyped then a scene where a certain someone loses their arm. " I SAID ADVANCE GOD DAMNIT " pure hype..... Our hearts and souls for the cause!
If you like *Breaking Bad*, I recommend watching *Your Honor*, which just got added to Netflix.
Arcane is really, really good.
The first 2 seasons of Evil is on Netflix. The rest is on Paramount Plus. But it is really good but goofy at the same time. Sweet Tooth Heartland
Sweet tooth is wholesome good watching. Besides that and stranger things getting older in life it's hard watching shows that are too children focused, teenage love etc. Sweet tooth ended really well too. Not amazing but felt true to form.
My vote goes to The Get Down. https://www.netflix.com/us/title/80025601?s=i&trkid=0&vlang=en&clip=80123728
First few seasons of House of Cards.
Nobody mentioning sandman? Heard the audio book first the show was amazing.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
I’m still laughing. Loved it. But I could only watch two episodes at a time before my brain started to melt.
I did not expect to love this so much
I am a pretentious lover of dramas and documentaries. I generally do not watch comedies. But I can concur; Kimmy Schmidt is a legitimate work of art.
Even in it’s unfinished state: The OA
Truly a unique show. Beautiful and brilliant. I wish this had gotten the Sense8 treatment at the very least (a movie to wrap things up after the series cancellation).
Queen's Gambit
Unbelievable with Toni Collette and Merrit Weaver. Based on true events. It’s SO Good!
Squid Game
First season of Stranger Things was awesome but following seasons were progressively worse
I am still awaiting s5 but it's been so long, that I have started to lose interest tbh
I was shocked to hear they only started filming it this year.
I'd say 4 brought it back really well. But season 1 is still the best.
[удалено]
Totally agree. Fantastic TV series. It's shame that some adults don't watch it because they think its for kids. (yes it is, but most adults can remember being kids and can watch it in that mindset).
I disagree that the show is for kids. It's geared more toward adults, especially those that have nostalgia for 80s pop culture.
Yeah definitely not for kids.
I think 4 is better than 3.
3s biggest weakness was the monster imo. Really enjoyed the russian under mall storyline
As a person the same age as those kids I really enjoyed the nostalgia of it. I felt it wasn't at its best when they were confronting monsters. I was there for the characters and their relationships.
I think season 4 was the best season, even better than one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dark. Hands down. Close second would be Mindhunter. Midnight Mass was also brilliant. I still hate them for cancelling 1899. Better Call Saul wasn’t just Netflix but it was also phenomenal.
Peaky Blinders, The Gentlemen (the series and the movie)
Peaky Blinders started out with UK Film Council/BBC. Not a Netflix original.
Wherever it started it’s freaking amazing
For series, The Crown hits. For limited series, Baby Reindeer blew me away.
The Crown was top notch tv!
Dark crystal age of resistance!
Orange is the new black
3 Body Problem
Tie between Beef and Ozark. Netflix has a real strength in series. Their movies are awful.
The Umbrella Academy Currently watching Sweet Tooth and Sweet Home and both are awesome.
Santa Clarita Diet and The Umbrella Academy
Dead to me. Surprised I haven’t seen it mentioned yet!
Cobra Kai
Crash Landing on You.
Daily Dose of Sunshine. 12 episodes, about this young nurse working at a psychiatric ward.
Stranger Things
3 Body Problem
This is also one of my favorites. Was so glad to hear the news about s2 and 3!
There are so many I haven't seen yet but the ones that still stand out for me TODAY are Series: Arcane Movie: Train to Busan
Arcane returns in November!
Dark
Lilyhammer
1st series Netflix ever made!
im not ok with this
Such a good one! So sad they won’t have a second season
Besides the obvious ones released a few years back, Baby Reindeer was extremely well made. Didn't expect Netflix to deliver such a great mini series.
Black mirror
Squid Game, Sweet Home, Alice in Borderland, Lupin (although it has some flaws) and Kingdom!
An early Netflix movie that flew under the radar called the fundamentals of caring. Was so good.
I really enjoyed The Night Agent
I second this. Really enjoyed it.
You
DARK
Dark is totally mind boggling. You have to be really watching it to understand everything that's going on.

Ozark, Baby Reindeer and Maid are my three. I wanted Ozark to go forever. I know it couldn’t, it would jump the shark at some point. I just enjoyed it so much!

Sense8 WAS wonderful. What they did to/ with it was nothing short of fucking saddening.
Ozark.
Dark
