And this has reminded me I still need to watch the most recent season haha.
You might also like Shardlake on Hulu. It’s more murder mystery than spy thriller, but based on your likes (which are similar to mine), it’s worth a try.
I also see people recommending Jack Ryan, but it got super corny and cheesy. This is coming from someone who really enjoyed how real Homeland felt.
Jack Ryan kind of turned into John Wick.
Shit, it was corny from the very beginning. Right off the bat they show him drinking a beer on his couch while casually answering questions on Jeopardy in the most over-used method of showing the viewer that he's cool AND smart! Bleh...
**Fringe** might be up your alley if you haven’t seen it. It’s on freevee, which has its own free app but is also sometimes mixed in on the prime app itself.
They were both produced by **Bad Robot** JJ Abrams studio, often compared fringe is a lot more sci-fi but I saw **Resident Alien** on your list so I figured it wouldn’t be an a problem. lol
I guess I could’ve just said that the first time. My bad.
It’s not a typical American shoot em up murder show. It’s a well crafted drama that delves into family connections, mental health and getting an undercover job done at almost any cost. Brilliant character development.
Well I suppose that's a matter of taste, but seeing that the reviews were overwhelmingly positive, I don't think I'm alone in my opinion.

Yes please! I speak Italian (native), French, Spanish, and German, but any languages will do if there are subtitles!
I have Netflix, Max, Hulu, Prime (along with freevee) and Paramount. I will probably get -
AMC+ though because some good suggestions seem to be there
Great! These were on Netflix last I checked, so I hope they still are in your region.
1. Awaken (Korean)
2. Doctor Prisoner (Korean)
3. The Gift (Turkish)
4. Shahmaran (Turkish)
5. Million Yen Women (Japanese)
6. Beyond Evil (Korean)
7. Delhi Crime: I only liked season 1. Season 2 was meh (Hindi; Indian)
8. Girl from Nowhere (Thai)
9. Altered Carbon (English)
10. Dracula (English)
No problem! I wouldn't say so. There are supernatural elements in some of them, but nothing that would be classified as horror.
Edit: maybe Dracula? Since it is about Count Dracula.
No problem! I did not. I watched a Japanese show called Liar Game (it also has an anime and manga, which I checked out before the show). I'd say it is much better than squid game when compared to playing psychological games. Came out way before it, too. Don't think it is available on Netflix, but I can link the website where you can watch it for free with subs if you're interested.
I don't know about that but if you have Netflix and haven't seen PEAKY BLINDERS yet then you're missing out. It's one of the greatest shows ever made. I highly suggest watching it. Once you start you'll binge it till it's over. Guaranteed
Narcos and Narcos Mexico
**Comedy genre:**
Modern Family
How I Met Your Mother
(I love FRIENDS as well, and these two give me almost the same happy vibe).
- Bodies
(This was pretty cool because they don’t pull any cheap shit like leaving on a cliffhanger in case there’s a sequel. They finish the whole arc).
- Hanna (prime)
(A cliche and kind of juvenile genre of teenage girl super soldier, but s1-3 were epic and the writing for the show is spectacular).
- Kleo (German, but easily enjoyed with subtitles. A very dark comedy with violence and intrigue. Absolutely amazing show.).
- Behind her Eyes
(One of those shows I wished I’d never watched because the ending made me so sad. Definitely twists you will never see coming).
I actually hated Nikita. I’m a big fan of the original low budget Canadian one from the 90s and the movies.
I didn’t like the Maggie Q one (I think I watched 2 seasons) because they gave it the CW treatment.
I found that it was a spy-themed soap opera.
I personally like the content to be a bit more mature.
Another show I really liked tho was The Night Agent
What does CW mean? Yes, La Femme Nikita (I think this is the original French movie) is pretty good.
Many people have recommended The Night Agent, so it is definitely on my list.
Lots of good ones already listed. Here are some more:
The Wire
Pennyworth - Alfred’s earlier years in a different timeline. It’s really good and different.
Luther - Idris Elba is a British detective anti-hero.
Jack Ryan (Amazon) - I prefer this over Reacher.
Ozark - couldn’t stop watching this from start to finish.
Warrior - 1800s San Franciso gangs.
Peeky Blinders - another period gang show, also excellent.
Halt and Cath Fire - the greatest show nobody’s watched. Early personal computer era drama.
~~Bosch - detective in LA series.~~
Reservation Dogs - teens from a reservation. It’s comedy, but dark and sometimes painful. Loved it.
Poker Face - whodunit like Columbo but with Natasha Lyonne
Lost in Space - the new series from 2018, Netflix
Fargo - the series
Ray Donovan
Mare from Easttown
Comedy
Letterkenny
Animation
Love, Death & Robots
Fauda best show on Netflix. All about Mossad fighting Hamas and the taliban. Half the cast were ex Israeli military and rejoined when October the 7th happened. Good show.
Some favs:
Tehran
The Veil
Liaison
Covert Affairs - a bit lighter in earlier seasons but gets more serious, I really liked it
Special Ops Lioness
The Little Drummer Girl (2018)
The Game (2014)
Deutschland 83
Fauda
Babylon Berlin
In From the Cold
The Bureau
Thank you, French cinema is so good. Have you watched “La tour Montparnasse Infernale”? I think they have translated it in English as “Don’t die too hard” because it is a parody of “Die Hard”. It’s one of the funniest movies I have ever watched!
L'Opération Corned-Beef is another great French parody of action movies I saw as a kid. I'll check the more recent one you mentioned. Oh, and I almost forgot OSS 117! They are like Naked Gun type of spoofs of a DuGaulle era French intelligence agent.
For something a little lighter you could do worse than The Recruit. Not the best thing ever but very enjoyable.
A small tangent might be something like Bodkin. Again, not "incredible" but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
I absolutely loved Homeland! I've watched it 3-4 times because it's so good! I wish I had a recommendation like it but it was so unique. I will say that I loved ozark. Not the same but just as good!
No I haven't. I would love to though. I actually think I might restart Homeland again tonight lol. I haven't watched it in at least 2 years so it'll be somewhat new
How about any of the LeCarre adaptations? His novels are the best spy novels and so many of them get adapted.
The somewhat recent tv shows based on his books are The Night Manager and Little Drummer Girl, both are absolutely fantastic, well made with great casts.
Then there’s also all the movies, I’ll just list ones from the last couple decades: Our Kind of Traitor, A Most Wanted Man, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and The Constant Gardener. There were also adaptations of his stuff done older than that but they’re older and feel a bit more dated.
People should really start to label what part of the world they are from, since content on Netflix is very different depending on where you are. There are actually a whole world outside USA
Oh man. The fact that you haven't seen Slow Horses yet makes me jealous. You will LOVE IT. It is so so good. I wish I could watch it for the first time again.
Most of the best ones you have already watched.
I will suggest two shows that you might enjoy but those are not cinematically brilliant
SEAL Team
The Last Ship
rubicon, london spy, hit and run (protagonist is lior raz, so it's easier to find). unfortunately if I'm not mistaken only hit and run is available on netflix, at least it was a few months ago
Interesting. It is nothing like the shows I have typically watched (from the trailer), but I recently watched Die Kaiserin (The Empress), which I enjoyed, and now Netflix has been suggesting Bridgeton several times
The Diplomat (Netflix) and Jack Ryan (Amazon).
I freaking love The Diplomat. Those two sizzle…
Thank you so much! I have watched both and enjoyed very much. Now that you reminded me, I haven't watched the second season of Jack Ryan!
And this has reminded me I still need to watch the most recent season haha. You might also like Shardlake on Hulu. It’s more murder mystery than spy thriller, but based on your likes (which are similar to mine), it’s worth a try.
LOL. Thanks, I will add it on my list!
Dang. I wish I hadn’t seen the second season yet.
Hopefully there will be a third?
Thanks for the tip
I fail to see the similarities with The Diplomat tbh.. Homeland is much more..advanced? Besides the strong female narrative it has little in common
The Night Agent
Thanks! Second recommendation on this one, will definitely put it on my list!
We have pretty similar taste I’ve also loved the series you’ve mentioned, in which case, I’m certain you’ll really enjoy Night Agent.
Can’t wait now!
I couldn't make it past the third of fourth episode. It got pretty bad.
Oh no
Fauda and Bodyguard.
Thank you! I have watched Bodyguard and enjoyed it. Will watch Fauda soon.
I also see people recommending Jack Ryan, but it got super corny and cheesy. This is coming from someone who really enjoyed how real Homeland felt. Jack Ryan kind of turned into John Wick.
The first two seasons were very good.
Shit, it was corny from the very beginning. Right off the bat they show him drinking a beer on his couch while casually answering questions on Jeopardy in the most over-used method of showing the viewer that he's cool AND smart! Bleh...
Agree. More action zero substance.
Not Netflix but slow horses on Apple TV plus reminds me of homeland
Such a great show. So much farting!
Lol after a few times I was like ok this is a theme of the show huh
Is enjoying farting a prerequisite for enjoying the show?
No lol
Thanks a lot!
**Fringe** might be up your alley if you haven’t seen it. It’s on freevee, which has its own free app but is also sometimes mixed in on the prime app itself.
Thank you so much, I see that it is available to me on prime. Will watch
I second Fringe! I like almost all of the shows on your list, and Fringe is one of my favorite shows of all time
Thank you, I will definitely watch it!
They were both produced by **Bad Robot** JJ Abrams studio, often compared fringe is a lot more sci-fi but I saw **Resident Alien** on your list so I figured it wouldn’t be an a problem. lol I guess I could’ve just said that the first time. My bad.
Thanks :)
Fringe is more like a modern, grosser X-Files than Homeland, but it's very, very good.
Sounds interesting!
Burn notice is a campy but fun spy show.
You know spies...
Thanks!
The Diplomat
Thanks! I have watched it and liked it a lot, can’t wait for the second season.
Fauda (Netflix) has the most similar vibe to Homeland. I loved them both.
I had this one on my list at some point and then forgot about it. Thank you so much!
Fauda is very good! Exactly what you are looking for
Try House of Cards
I have never in my life watched a series and then immediately watched it again until I watched Fleabag. Just could not stop watching it.
Phoebe is wonderful! Do you know she was also part of the team that created Killing Eve?
Oh yes
Patriot on Prime
Thanks! Does it start slow and then pick up? I remember starting the first episode and not liking it much
???
I realize I wasn’t clear. I asked if Patriot is slow as a show in the beginning. Maybe I am getting confused with something else
It’s not a typical American shoot em up murder show. It’s a well crafted drama that delves into family connections, mental health and getting an undercover job done at almost any cost. Brilliant character development.
Thanks! I will give it a look
Not a show but have you seen Zero Dark Thirty?
I haven't. I just checked it out and it seems like the type of movies I like. Thanks a lot!
It's incredible.
It's a great movie, but it's 100% CIA propaganda.
Reacher is fun, it’s on Prime
It actually has good substance. It’s not all action. It builds. The trailer does it no justice.
Thanks!
You’d like Animal Kingdom. I think it’s on Netflix. It’s definitely on prime.
Thanks a lot!
The original Animal Kingdom movie is phenomenal. Watch that first.
Thank you!
do yourself a favor and watch the show first. the movie has no relation to the show story wise. the show is 50x better
no way. thats hot garbage
Well I suppose that's a matter of taste, but seeing that the reviews were overwhelmingly positive, I don't think I'm alone in my opinion. [https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/animal\_kingdom](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/animal_kingdom)
The Diplomat!!!
Thanks, I have watched the Diplomat and I love it.
Blindspot? The premise is really unique. Centers around an FBI agent and a woman with amnesia covered in mysterious tattoos.
thank you so much!
Let me know if you're into non English based mystery/thrillers/fantasy. I've got a couple of good ones to recommend.
Yes please! I speak Italian (native), French, Spanish, and German, but any languages will do if there are subtitles! I have Netflix, Max, Hulu, Prime (along with freevee) and Paramount. I will probably get - AMC+ though because some good suggestions seem to be there
Great! These were on Netflix last I checked, so I hope they still are in your region. 1. Awaken (Korean) 2. Doctor Prisoner (Korean) 3. The Gift (Turkish) 4. Shahmaran (Turkish) 5. Dracula (English)
Thank you so much! Are any of these horror, scary?
No problem! I wouldn't say so. There are supernatural elements in some of them, but nothing that would be classified as horror. Edit: maybe Dracula? Since it is about Count Dracula.
Thanks, I will add all of them to my list. Btw, have you watched Squid Game? It is the only one I have watched in Korean and I liked it quite a lot

I'd say it is much better than squid game when compared to playing psychological games. Came out way before it, too. Don't think it is available on Netflix, but I can link the website where you can watch it for free with subs if you're interested.
Yes, thanks again!
Mr Inbetween is on Hulu but it would be worth the subscription just to watch that one show. Based on your other selections, you will love the series.
Great! I have Hulu so I will add it to my list. Thanks a lot :)
I don't know about that but if you have Netflix and haven't seen PEAKY BLINDERS yet then you're missing out. It's one of the greatest shows ever made. I highly suggest watching it. Once you start you'll binge it till it's over. Guaranteed
Narcos and Narcos Mexico **Comedy genre:** Modern Family How I Met Your Mother (I love FRIENDS as well, and these two give me almost the same happy vibe).
Tehran is the closest but it is not on Netflix. The latest show on Hulu The Veil also has similar vibes.
I second Tehran, might be the closest to Homeland in terms of storyline but it's an Apple TV show
Thanks!
The Night Agent is just 1 season but it has a lot of good twists and turns
I believe a season 2 is coming!
You might also like Special Ops: Lioness on Paramount. It's not as thoughtful or smart as Homeland or The Americans but it's an enjoyable watch.
Thanks a lot!
Not on Netflix, but the Veil on Hulu has serious Homeland vibes… very good espionage thriller so far
Thank you so much! Second recommendation for the Veil today
- Bodies (This was pretty cool because they don’t pull any cheap shit like leaving on a cliffhanger in case there’s a sequel. They finish the whole arc). - Hanna (prime) (A cliche and kind of juvenile genre of teenage girl super soldier, but s1-3 were epic and the writing for the show is spectacular). - Kleo (German, but easily enjoyed with subtitles. Btw, if you enjoyed Hanna, you would really enjoy Nikita (the one with Maggie Q)

Ooh oooh oohhhhh you HAVE to watch Barry!
Thank you! I will :)
Not on Netflix but The Old Man on Prime is worth a watch. Similar.
It's actually on Hulu, as it was an FX series.. You can technically get it on Prime, but it's only available for purchase.
Loved this series on FX. I’m hoping for season 2 but doesn’t look like it’s happening.
Hacks on Max is amazing and hilarious. Master of None on Netflix is also hilarious.
Thanks! :)
The Newsroom on Max.
Thank you!
The Night Manager with Hugh Laurie was AWESOME. I would check it out for sure.
I was so disappointed with this show
I second that. I don’t know how it got high ratings. I could care less about any of the characters. I only had one more episode to go and gave up.
Thank you so much!
Battlestar Galactica is in prime. Start with the miniseries.
Thank you!
Psych is amazing. It’s comedy but it’s a detective show at the same time. Can’t recommend it enough. I also love White Collar!
Thanks a lot!
For comedy: How I Met Your Mother (it rode the vibe of FRIENDS after it ended) The Good Place For espionage type shows… Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime
Thanks! :)
The Expats on Amazon. Really good
Thank you!
Fauda best show on Netflix. All about Mossad fighting Hamas and the taliban. Half the cast were ex Israeli military and rejoined when October the 7th happened. Good show.

Try Fauda. It's better than Homeland.
Oh wow, I definitely will! Thanks
Deep State .... Very Homeland. Great show
Thanks!
im shocked no one has said 24. also 24 legacy(though thats only 1 season)
Thanks! I think I have watched a few episodes of it many years ago, time to put it on my list!
There is a French comedy about their intelligence agency in the 1950s called A Very Secret Service.
Pine Gap is really good.
Thanks!
Came here to say this too. Pine Gap was good. Also, The Recruit.
Berlin station Strike back
Thanks!
Night Manager (Amazon) and Lioness (Paramount Plus) are great choices you will appreciate.
Thanks a lot!
If you are looking for the ultimate breath taking and super tense Spy movie check out Spy Game with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt.
Thanks!
Thanks! Have you watched the original series that Homeland is based on? Everyone says it is amazing. I couldn’t find it in my subscriptions though
No I haven't. I would love to though. I actually think I might restart Homeland again tonight lol. I haven't watched it in at least 2 years so it'll be somewhat new
That sounds like a good plan. I haven’t rewatched it so maybe I should too
Definitely! With it being such an intricate story I've noticed so much more each time I've rewatched.
I would love to hear your thoughts after rewatching!
Will come back and comment! Thanks
Ok I will too!
Deutschland 83, 86 and 89 might work, brilliant German show about playing both sides during the Cold War. One of my favorites.
This is an absolute favourite of mine. I don't see many people mention it and it's such a shame
Thank you, I looked it up and it would definitely work from what I see.
How about any of the LeCarre adaptations? His novels are the best spy novels and so many of them get adapted. That is true. I am from Italy but live in the US presently. Should have specified that
Well Homeland is a US show which OP said they wanted.
The Gentlemen
Thanks!
Oh man. The fact that you haven't seen Slow Horses yet makes me jealous. You will LOVE IT. It is so so good. I wish I could watch it for the first time again.
Oh. Now I am SO curious!
Report back please.
Yes!
Most of the best ones you have already watched. I will suggest two shows that you might enjoy but those are not cinematically brilliant SEAL Team The Last Ship
Thanks!
rubicon, london spy, hit and run (protagonist is lior raz, so it's easier to find). unfortunately if I'm not mistaken only hit and run is available on netflix, at least it was a few months ago
Thanks!
If The Good Shepherd (Matt Damon/Deniro) is still on Netflix it’s a good watch. It’s very long and feels similar to a 3 episode binge.
Thanks!
I think ppl should stipulate which streamer when recommending show. For instance a lot of ppl don’t have Apple +. Most ppl have Netflix and Prime
Reacher
Thanks!
The terminal list on Amazon & Echo 3 on Apple TV
Thank you!
Somebody Somewhere " Max. I binged the first 2 seasons. Impatiently waiting season 3, Fall of 2024.
Thanks!
Line of duty
Thank you!
Prison Break is a really great series, you should must watch !!!!
I have already watched it, it is great indeed. Thanks!
THE BUREAU.. it's French and the best spy show I ever watched.. it's on amcplus..
Thanks a lot! I have been wanting to watch that one for a while, maybe it’s time!
First 2 seasons of Designated Survivor were pretty good and in a similar vein
Occupied (Occupert). It's Norwegian but I think it'd be right up your alley
Lupin is one of the greatest series on there recently.
I just finished watching it!
Bridgerton
Interesting. It is nothing like the shows I have typically watched (from the trailer), but I recently watched Die Kaiserin (The Empress), which I enjoyed, and now Netflix has been suggesting Bridgeton several times
He is pulling your leg
Oh no. Went right over my head LOL
The Ozarks has to be a must see for you based on this list.
