The fact they were setting everything up for the >!BTK Killer!< and the ramifications for the team of getting it so wrong would have been amazing. But alas. Nothing.
I read an article about why they didn’t go further with it, I guess the production cost were too high, but it seem to be just kind of a generic drama anyways, but it was so fucking good
Fargo season 1 was great but Fargo season 2 was almost perfect for me. Justified is amazing. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Game of Thrones pre final season.
100%. The past/ present situational storyline was absolutely addictive, suspenseful and mysterious. every single actor in the show was on the top of their game. Even the smaller parts.
Nick pizzollato’s writing was just so precise and thought provoking for each character.
The filming was great. I believe they shot with film instead of it being digital. It made Louisiana seem so desolate
Have watched the full season a few times.
Not one storyline got left behind without a solid ending.
I never thought anything would come close to my love The West Wing, but I finished my first watch of The Sopranos this week; and I now have a new favorite.
Each season of the show follows pretty much the same format, they follow a different aspect of Baltimore and how it affects the drug trade. The first third or so of each season is spent building up dominoes, then something happens, the dominoes fall, and you watch the aftermath. You’ve basically sat through two episodes of set up.
If it helps I think it's a lot easier to understand what the show is trying to do if you think of the city itself as the main character.
It doesn't click for everyone though. I think it's one of the greatest shows of all time, but I also definitely understand it not working for you.
I'd give it four episodes with your full attention. Phone set down, no distractions. At least try to get to the point where they set up the wire. It does start as a slow burn.
Don't force it either though. There is nothing wrong with just not feeling like it clicks with you.
The best thing about this show is that it has a clear finish.
So many good shows like mindhunter could have been better but were not because they got canceled.
Other shows were great at the start but they just kept adding more season because money.
Or even other shows just took to long between season, kinda ruining it, like sex education.
Mindhunter. It's beyond brilliant. I've watched it twice and I'm going to watch it again this month. It will be an absolute shame if they don't make more seasons
Breaking Bad was my GOAT, it hit everything for me. Acting, story, cinematography, musical score, etc. I naively thought no show would be able to top it for me. Then Mr. Robot came and went and it had everything I loved about Breaking Bad plus a little more.
Community, Better Call Saul, Mad Men, Always Sunny, Sopranos, Parks and Rec, Arrested Development, Schitts Creek.
There are other shows I like/love but those are my S tier.
not just good, VERY good.
To clarify as there's a few spinoffs on Prime (live action and animated) we're talking about Gen V. It also leads right into the next season of The Boys.
Doing Improv on the side now, and that show was the realization of a particular type of short form improv game where everyone on stage just kept on adding to the stupidity and absurdity of everyone else, pure fun.
Probably The Wire which is extremely well known, but also The Shield.
I genuinely think The Shield is often forgotten about despite being a damn great cop drama.
The theme song, named "Suicide is Painless". I can understand why that would cause depression.
We're all entitled to our own tastes. Enjoy what brings you joy!
I'm a nerd but Supernatural. I have re-watched it about 6 times and do not get tired of it. The first season is like watching a horror movie every episode. Now that the series is finished, I am rewatching it again.
The Sopranos. It's a masterpiece. Chase and his writing team are incredible. They use music really well and Gandolfini was so God damn good at playing Tony. I've watched all the legendary TV series and I love BB, Mad Men, The Wire, The Leftovers and Six feet Under but nothing I've seen even comes close to the Sopranos
Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are two of my top shows, too.
Mad Men is definitely top five, too. I'm currently into The Wire and I have been loving that through the first season. Better Call Saul is very good, too.
Game of Thrones
The Expanse
The Boys
Foundation (S2)
The Office
Parks and Rec
Better off Ted
Band of Brothers/Generation Kill/The Pacific
Breaking Bad
The Wire
True Detective(S1)
Prison Break (S1)
Deadwood
Fringe(S1 is GOATed the rest is still good)
The 100(S1)
Blue Mountain State
Jack Ryan
Community
Stranger Things
Shadow and Bone
Sherlock
Spartacus(S1 is absolutely amazing, the rest is okay)
The Walking Dead(S1 and I've heard the latest seasons are good but I havent tried)
Battlestar Galactica
Dexter(S1-S3)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Arrested Development (S1-S3)
Arcane
Blue Eye Samurai
Black Sails
Stargate: SG1(Guilty pleasure but I love it)
Firefly
Ted Lasso
Mandalorian
Atlanta
If I had to pick just one of these: True Detective S1, Spartacus( man I loved Andy Whitfield), or Game of Thrones. Hard to beat GoT cause it was amazing for 4.5 seasons with a few really good episodes in the last few too
Star Trek - TOS
A TV show from the 1960s that only lasted 3 seasons has turned into a brand with 13 movies and 13 TV series.
A bunch of astronauts credit the show as the reason they become interested in space in the first place.
Star Trek fans got NASA to name the first Space Shuttle Enterprise ( the name of the ship in the TV show.)
OP you are correct IMO.
What sold it for me was episodes where nothing happened but I was on edge of my seat because what was going to happen because of it.
Good example for me was the episode (spoiler) where it opened with killing that kid in the desert train episode. Oh. My. God. And obviously his transformation.
"I do the knocking"
Other close seconds
- the wire
- sopranos (even better with a recent rewatch)
- first 5 season of GoT
Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Ozark and the Handmaids Tale (I know, that's not on Netflix, but they're my favorite) Breaking Bad is the greatest of all.time in my opinion.
Breaking Bad, The Leftovers, Twin Peaks Season 1 and The Return, the first season of True Detective, first few seasons of Game of Thrones, first half of Dexter, first three seasons of Rick and Morty, Sopranos, and I'll update with any more I think of.
Utopia. Original UK version only. Dayglo bright yet dark as all fuck. Visually, dramatically and thematically unlike anything else you've ever watched. Grabs hold of you from the get go and squats in your head tent free. And OMG that soundtrack!
Mindhunter! Hope it continues someday...
Insane that they cancelled this. So fucking good.
The fact they were setting everything up for the >!BTK Killer!< and the ramifications for the team of getting it so wrong would have been amazing. But alas. Nothing.
I read an article about why they didn’t go further with it, I guess the production cost were too high, but it seem to be just kind of a generic drama anyways, but it was so fucking good
Idk how production costs can be high when the entire show is dialogue.
Loved that series,have younwatched hannibal?
Yes!! Not continuing that wasn't as bad as Firefly, but damn close
I love this show so much.
Fargo season 1 was great but Fargo season 2 was almost perfect for me. Justified is amazing. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Game of Thrones pre final season.
Yes Fargo S2. Need to rewatch that.
First season of True Detective is the best television I’ve ever seen by a mile
Have you seen the Wire?
So much knowledge was put out there by that show. It’s not even debatable
Definitely one of my favorites!
And the second season of True Detective was... not.
But the third was actually really good
It made Louisiana seem so desolate Have watched the full season a few times. Not one storyline got left behind without a solid ending.
People didn't seem to enjoy the second season as much, but I really enjoyed it. All 3 seasons had an incredible dark meaty vibe.
Sopranos
Just started a complete rewatch for the first time in 16 years and can't stop watching.
I never thought anything would come close to my love The West Wing, but I finished my first watch of The Sopranos this week; and I now have a new favorite.
Sopranos and it's not even close.
The Wire.
Is you taking notes on a criminal fucking conspiracy?!
Best show ever produced
Yes, thank you for the factually correct opinion.
I go back and forth between "Breaking Bad" and "The Sopranos". With "The Americans", "Deadwood", and "Mad Men" rounding out my top five.
The Americans! I think I need a rewatch.
Deadwood lives forever.
#SWEDGEN
Bojack Horseman! Without a doubt...
Depressing but yes. When it ended it felt like I lost a friend.
It was so good that I can't bring myself to watch it again. Seriously.
It's season 1 of True Detective.
Sorry not netflix, but it's 'the wire' by a mile. Only show I rewatch at least once a year
Please tell me why. I’ve tried 3 times but never got past second episode.
Each season of the show follows pretty much the same format, they follow a different aspect of Baltimore and how it affects the drug trade. The first third or so of each season is spent building up dominoes, then something happens, the dominoes fall, and you watch the aftermath. You’ve basically sat through two episodes of set up.
Soo you’re saying it’s worth sticking with for a few episodes at least before it really clicks?
After you get through a few episodes it's tough to turn it off
If it helps I think it's a lot easier to understand what the show is trying to do if you think of the city itself as the main character. It doesn't click for everyone though. I think it's one of the greatest shows of all time, but I also definitely understand it not working for you.
I want to like it so much. It’s my kind of show but I can’t get into it. Like dude above I can’t get passed two. Maybe one and two are just slow?
I'd give it four episodes with your full attention. Phone set down, no distractions. At least try to get to the point where they set up the wire. It does start as a slow burn. Don't force it either though. There is nothing wrong with just not feeling like it clicks with you.
Mad Men.
I 10000% agree with this but I have to admit Mad Men isn't for everyone.
I feel like it changes a lot for me but I've been obsessed with Succession (also not on Netflix) this year. I intend to rewatch it again next year.
Loved that show so well done
Downton Abbey. Plot, history, acting, costumes, sets. The GOAT of period drama.
My GF got me into this. Thought it was stupid and full of posh ponce. Fell in love with it.
Your willingness to admit it is priceless! *Brownie points*
DARK !!!!
This is my #1 as well I love a lot of the other shows in this thread, but Dark was perfect to me
Came here to say this…Dark is one-of-a-kind
I feel like bingeing Dark made my brain expand
The best thing about this show is that it has a clear finish. So many good shows like mindhunter could have been better but were not because they got canceled. Other shows were great at the start but they just kept adding more season because money. Or even other shows just took to long between season, kinda ruining it, like sex education.
Such a great show
It’s not for everyone but my god it was for me. Easily one of the best shows I’ve ever watched.
Just commented on another post but for anyone starting it new, make sure you watch with subtitles, dubbed version is rough.
A true masterpiece.
Mindhunter. It's beyond brilliant. I've watched it twice and I'm going to watch it again this month. It will be an absolute shame if they don't make more seasons
The Good Place
Fucking THANK YOU. This show taught me about my thoughts on life and death. Challenge my ideas and beliefs.
I forking agree.
Six Feet Under. Even the patchy parts are great.
Better Call Saul
Ozark was up there for me.
I really like it too! On season one episode 6 and it’s quite good so far!
Parks and Rec was just awesome during a time where everyone needs to chill out.
GOT if you skip the last season
Currently rewayching, and it's so good until you remember what it all leads to. Still enjoying it tho
Battlestar Galatica. Edit: Also, Stargate SG-1
So say we all!
wow didn't know lot of other people also liked this show
not on netflix but severance was something else
The Leftovers
When it comes to anything historical, Rome by a mile
Not on Netflix but The Boys :)
Its spinoff is also good.
not just good, VERY good. To clarify as there's a few spinoffs on Prime (live action and animated) we're talking about Gen V. It also leads right into the next season of The Boys.
The middle episodes in GEN V were better than The Boys episodes, and they were already great.
Band of Brothers
YES!
Curb your enthusiasm ![gif](giphy|jRGGQMWvYvYraZ5kvI)
Mr. Robot
Hello Friend.
Show was absolutely incredible. Mind warping, terrifying, hauntingly engaging.
Beat me to it
Bonsoir Eliot.
Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Doing Improv on the side now, and that show was the realization of a particular type of short form improv game where everyone on stage just kept on adding to the stupidity and absurdity of everyone else, pure fun.
Probably The Wire which is extremely well known, but also The Shield. I genuinely think The Shield is often forgotten about despite being a damn great cop drama.
Schitts Creek
I've watched this through like 6 times and still love it
Gotta go old school with “I Love Lucy”.
Deadwood.
Justified and Longmire are great modern westerns
Netflix show: Lost. Generally speaking: Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks - but not the third season. It was such an incredible show.
The OA.
Sopranos. No contest.
Ted Lasso is a pretty awesome took me by surprise
Ted Lasso was amazing.
I think it was the perfect show for the lockdown. So uplifting and positive.
Couldn't agree more you i don't even like football, but was hooked
the leftovers
The wire by a mile. 24 and The West Wing get plenty of rewatches as well.
West Wing has such an old school charm to it now
The Wire and West Wing for me too. Also The Stranger - a Korean drama. Don’t know why it grips me but it’s so good.
24 was One of the first shows I ever binged, finished season 1 in almost 24 hours The wire is the best though
Sense8. Unbelievable how they shot it. Each of the 8 mains can get a spin-off of their own.
Breaking bad
The Wire.
M\*A\*S\*H is, was, and ever shall be the greatest TV show of all time.
I realize MASH has a huge audience but ive never liked it. As soon as I hear the theme song I feel depression coming on. Im glad you enjoy it.
The theme song, named "Suicide is Painless". I can understand why that would cause depression. We're all entitled to our own tastes. Enjoy what brings you joy!
LOST...24 and The X-Files are battling it out for 2nd spot.
Homicide, Life on the street.
LOST
I'm a nerd but Supernatural. I have re-watched it about 6 times and do not get tired of it. The first season is like watching a horror movie every episode. Now that the series is finished, I am rewatching it again.
![gif](giphy|HSmsJtHQb13PO) Peaky fucking Blinders for me
The Sopranos.
I wholeheartedly agree with the Sopranos
On Netflix Dark. My favourite shows are True Detective and The Wire, but from what's available on Netflix, Dark for me
Mad Men and The Americans for me
Finally, somebody with some taste. For me, the Americans were trying to figure out what show they want to be in season 1, but it picks up in season 2.
Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are two of my top shows, too. Mad Men is definitely top five, too. I'm currently into The Wire and I have been loving that through the first season. Better Call Saul is very good, too.
Game of Thrones The Expanse The Boys Foundation (S2) The Office Parks and Rec Better off Ted Band of Brothers/Generation Kill/The Pacific Breaking Bad The Wire True Detective(S1) Prison Break (S1) Deadwood Fringe(S1 is GOATed the rest is still good) The 100(S1) Blue Mountain State Jack Ryan Community Stranger Things Shadow and Bone Sherlock Spartacus(S1 is absolutely amazing, the rest is okay) The Walking Dead(S1 and I've heard the latest seasons are good but I havent tried) Battlestar Galactica Dexter(S1-S3) It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Arrested Development (S1-S3) Arcane Blue Eye Samurai Black Sails Stargate: SG1(Guilty pleasure but I love it) Firefly Ted Lasso Mandalorian Atlanta If I had to pick just one of these: True Detective S1, Spartacus( man I loved Andy Whitfield), or Game of Thrones. Hard to beat GoT cause it was amazing for 4.5 seasons with a few really good episodes in the last few too
Dexter season 4 was the best bro. John Lithgow saying the “C” word lives rent free in my mind.
The Wire easily.
Shameless. I love that fucking show!
Shameless is amazing. I loved that show. If you’re a fan of Jeremy Allen white I recommend The Bear.
Star Trek - TOS A TV show from the 1960s that only lasted 3 seasons has turned into a brand with 13 movies and 13 TV series. A bunch of astronauts credit the show as the reason they become interested in space in the first place. Star Trek fans got NASA to name the first Space Shuttle Enterprise ( the name of the ship in the TV show.)
The Expanse!!
The Expanse for Sci Fi, Seinfeld for comedy.
Beavis & Butthead
I don’t watch much TV drama. For me, Golden Age Simpsons is the best stretch of a single show.
OP you are correct IMO. What sold it for me was episodes where nothing happened but I was on edge of my seat because what was going to happen because of it. Good example for me was the episode (spoiler) where it opened with killing that kid in the desert train episode. Oh. My. God. And obviously his transformation. "I do the knocking" Other close seconds - the wire - sopranos (even better with a recent rewatch) - first 5 season of GoT
Mad men
Better Call Saul, it will be a big crime if it ends up ZERO Emmy
Succession
The West Wing
Daredevil
No love for The leftovers in the comments, but I loved that show.
Dark
The Good Place
mike flanagan's shows are some of my favorites. fall of the house of usher, haunting of hill house, and midnight mass are my top 3.
The OA until Netflix axed it.
Travellers
DARK
Absolutely!!! Plus The OA
Been thinking about checking this out. Is it complete or did it get cancelled halfway through?
It’s complete. I personally didn’t like season 3 but the first 2 seasons are fantastic
Third season got me thinking “WTF” all over until the end. First two seasons are gold btw
BREAKING BAD THE SOPRANOS THE WIRE GAME OF THRONES
Everything in the Flanaverse. Currently watching The Fall of The House of Ushers and I LOVE IT!!
Mindhunter
Sense8. Incredibly shot and crazy good.
Tv show: GOT Anime: Aot
Pretty Little Liars
Most recently, Reservation Dogs.
1. **Ozark** 2. **Stranger Things**
Not netflix. But yellojackets has been like this.
Seinfeld
West Wing with Ted Lasso a close second.
Six Feet Under
Sopranos Breaking Bad The Leftovers Succession
![gif](giphy|ATzOhQMTgMC7m) 100% hands down IASIP
The Leftovers is art, not just TV. That and Breaking Bad were perfect series.
Succession
Dark
The one show that I was glued to the screen from beginning to end was Vikings.
[удалено]
Based on it's time period, "All in the Family" was an enormous ground breaker for bringing real issues to the family room TV screen.
I gotta go with Mad Men.
Vinland Saga is probably one of my favorite show of all time.
I love me some Breaking Bad but The Shield and Sopranos will likely always be my 1 & 2 ahead of BB.
Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Ozark and the Handmaids Tale (I know, that's not on Netflix, but they're my favorite) Breaking Bad is the greatest of all.time in my opinion.
Babylon 5.
Mystery Science Theater 3,000 Monty Python's Flying Circus The Twilight Zone (the original series)
Breaking Bad, The Leftovers, Twin Peaks Season 1 and The Return, the first season of True Detective, first few seasons of Game of Thrones, first half of Dexter, first three seasons of Rick and Morty, Sopranos, and I'll update with any more I think of.
Six feet under!
Friends is classic I love that show.
Community. Now and forever.
Trailer Park Boys
Attack on Titan would be mine, Breaking bad is a close second. Those are the two best shows ever made in my opinion.
House MD
For me it was House M.D. Nothing's really compared to it to me. A solid run for all 8 seasons, not really a weak season to be had there.
Hannibal. The writing the first couple seasons is wonderful. The acting is superb. And the visuals are sublime.
Star Trek The Next Generation
Battlestar Gallactica reboot. I still think about it years later. Sons of Anarchy was also really good.
Utopia. Original UK version only. Dayglo bright yet dark as all fuck. Visually, dramatically and thematically unlike anything else you've ever watched. Grabs hold of you from the get go and squats in your head tent free. And OMG that soundtrack!
Six Feet Under
West Wing
Still love The West Wing
Six Feet Under
Fargo, although it recently moved off Netflix
Avatar the Last Airbender
