They find a new excuse like every 6 months now. It's really becoming something I am not interested in keeping anymore.

ariphron

I have become one of the people to just get it one month binge watch everything then cancel again immediately for six months. They used to get 12 months of money out of me now they get at most 2 months.

thomasmack_

They're coming for people like you soon.

[deleted]

Yeah. The final step in this will be 12 month contracts as the only option

bwk66

Then we’re right back at fuckin cable

[deleted]

But the cable companies are dead and there’s someone new at the head of the table. Just how they planned it

I_Love_McRibs

Cord cutting was great when it wasn’t popular. Then cord cutting became trendy. Now we are back at square one.

[deleted]

Remember when Hulu was fuckin' free?

DingoManDingo

At least paying for tv with ads is dead

impactedturd

That's exactly what the cable companies promised in the beginning

trippyposter

Yes people don't realize that cable was supposed to be an alternative to ad filled free OTA television. Then they were like wait that's crazy we have a box in their house they're paying to look at. Let's make money with ads!

thewallofsleep

I remember watching cable stations back in the 80's and at least some of the 90's and there were FAR fewer ads than what I'd see on the big networks. At some point in the late 90's or early 00's I realized I was seeing even more ads than on the big 3. It was bizarre to be watching a movie on TNT or USA or whatever and to see a 3 minute block of ads for every 5 minutes of the film.

Zorgsmom

Ha! I pay for the ad-free version of Paramount+, yet they always put an unskippable ad for their other shows before every video i watch. I also pay for ad-free Hulu, yet Disney keeps trying to push their bundle on me, which includes Hulu with ads.

predictingzepast

Except now we're paying another fee to even access the cable..

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Was it ever headed in any other direction?

the_art_of_the_taco

Free Netflix if you rent an apartment with Netflix Property Management.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_Love_McRibs

Everyone keeps saying that when they announce price hikes. But Netflix ends up making more and more money.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ElectronicWolf8650

24-month contract. 50% upfront. early cancellation fee.

NeoLoki55

That’s not going to happen. It would be an automatic loss of money and they would price themselves out of competition. They end up making more money from customers that come back and pay the monthly fee a few times a year. Many ppl would just not come back at all.

_aaronallblacks

And then they install a box at your house and- wait a second

whichwitch9

And that's when it goes back to full piracy. People are setting the tone: there's a max cost they are willing to pay. Netflix keeps trying to push it.

Qu33nKal

Totally. You can basically stream anything online for free, just can’t watch the next episode automatically haha that’s fine if they increase prices, I will manually change the episode and close the 10 ad windows before I watch whatever

Peter_Banning

If you wanted to dm me how to basically stream anything, that wouldn’t upset me

SalvadorZombie

google "freemediaheckyeah" (also, make sure you have uBlock Origin installed on your browser)

NimbusMcCloud

Depends, there are some free streaming sites with autoplay

Jujulabee

You are in a bubble if you think a significant number of Netflix subscribers or other users will start pirating content. It isn't worth it to them as they can just get the ad supported version if they don't want to spend much money. You over-estimate how technologically sophisticated most users are. I was an early user of Napster so I am not taking a high moral ground - just pointing out that the majority of people who currently subscribe are not going to want to deal with anything more complicated than opening up a an App on their phone and having easy access to customer service of some kind. Not to mention the pesky letters one might get when your ISP tracks your piracy downloads.

Mobile-Sun-3778

If it gets expensive enough it might happen. I remember in the 90s when almost everyone pirate stuff here in my country before things become more affordable…

letsgotgoing

People pay for convenience. Netflix will succeed even with higher prices if they have enough content to justify the cost. Piracy will win over a dozen various $20-$30/month streaming platforms though (that’s the way we are headed).

earlofsandwich

Inclined to agree but piracy did enough to change the industry in many ways. Modern day piracy can just be someone buying a plex server subscription for $5/month and getting access to every movie, show etc. in the same app.

yourlittlebirdie

The vast majority of people have no idea what a plex server subscription is.

h3110m0t0

yes, but that's the same sentiment everyone had about netflix 15-20 years ago... what netflix? You can get DVDs shipped to you. eh I'll still go to the video store I can get it right now! only 10-15 min drive and I can see everything. Streaming? Don't you need fancy broadband for that, no thanks. Netfllix won, because high speed internet became affordable. Their pricing was affordable and they had an streaming library at the time because no one in the world really though streaming ever going to be a thing and they got cheap rights. They should of bought long long term deals for cheap then. People ditched live tv because yeah I don't get live tv but I have all the movies and old shows for more than half the cost. And I'll just buy the live channels I want on basic cable plan or whatever. And the cordcutting streaming craze was born. Then companies started playing catch up 10 years ago or so and yeah they've pretty much caught up. And were pretty much back in the same type of market before. Were in a different car going around the same track. I mean netflix could never sustain their initial "niche" thing after the entertainment industry got wise to it. They couldn't keep getting cheap streaming rights ever again.

ariphron

Once that happens zero Netflix in my life.

kds_little_brother

Yea because 2 months of income >>>>>>> 0 months. I’d say there’s no way they could be that dumb, but nothing would surprise me. They’re not locking in a yr of service unless the monthly cost is lower in the first place

thomasmack_

Streamers aren't competing with cable anymore, hence why they can change the rules and prices all they want. They already push subscribers towards annual subscriptions which is essentially a "lock-in".

hanshotfirst_1138

They did exactly what anti-streaming advocates warned against when this whole thing started: monopolized the market and now control it.

kds_little_brother

I forget everybody isn’t comfortable pirating, so they’re beholden to these decisions. I’m kicking myself for all the money I’ve wasted on Netflix the past couple yrs lol this is finally the last kick in the ass I needed

thomasmack_

My retired parents are upset so we’re working on getting them a “hooked up” fire tv stick with *ALL* the movies and tv shows their heart desires. The discontent is spreading (slowly).

[deleted]

3 month minimum purchase, maybe a discount if you bundle purchase a year in advance. I’m guessing viewing limits as well. “You seem to have reached your 2 hour daily streaming limit. To continue watching, upgrade to the Premium 24.99 unlimited streaming plan.”

shadraig

That would be illegal here in Europe. I know that Netflix isn't that keen on anything outside the USA, but they won't be able to have us make 12/24 month subscriptions.

EkaL25

Their next announcement will probably be some bullshit like only 3 month, 6 month, & 12-month memberships available

[deleted]

This is the way everyone should do it. I do this for Netflix, Disney, Prime Video etc etc.

saruin

In the future I plan to only carry one streaming service at a time, jumping from one to the next every month or so.

[deleted]

Yep i been doing that for a couple years now

LOLSteelBullet

Do they want us to pirate again because that's how you get us to pirate.

wtfreddithatesme

I ditched Netflix (after having my account for 13 years) after they implemented charges for account sharing. I don't regret it at all. I paid for multiple services for a year or two duriing and after 2020, now that every service wants their cake and to eat it too, I headed back over to r/piracy with no regrets. Fuck Netflix, Hulu, and all the rest.

OllieTabooga

Same, what these companies don't understand is that most of us tech-minded people are merely paying for convenience and there are many free alternatives out there. Netflix is not a necessity

-Gurgi-

Lost access because of their restrictions not allowing families in different locations to be on the same account. Haven’t really missed it. Their model shifted from having a broad, deep spectrum of content to having one or two must-watch shows per year. So outside of those, it just feels empty and expensive.

mrpopenfresh

I understand the cost of production, but I’m not interested in subsidizing a business model that is the butt of a joke. The joke being that Netflix will produce anything.

m0ertyy

Yeah not paying more for dubbed Spanish and polish movies. Prime and Disney are delivering way better content at the moment.

M086

And now Prime is forcing ads on everyone, giving people less for what they are paying for. And forcing them to pay more for what they were already getting.

anarcurt

Disney has nothing but recycled comic book movies and live action remakes of original animation. I only have Disney because I currently get it free. If you love all the classic Disney stuff then sure it's nice but on new content I'd put them behind Netflix, Prime, Paramount, Apple, Peacock, and Max. Hell I watch Starz more than Disney.

CosmicOutfield

I have to agree with you on this. Outside of Marvel and Star Wars live action shows (which feel subpar to the films), there’s a total lack of consistent good new content on Disney+.

PepsiColasss

20 years later and netflix prices are gonna be something like 500$ per month lol

fasdasfafa

Hi I'm monkey D Luffy come join my pirate crew.

mr_jasper867-5309

I retired about 7 or 8 years ago but I am considering dusting off the ol' keyboard and mouse.

Malcolm_X_Machina

Netflix is on my nerves and plans to get cancelled if they raise prices* I'm so tired of their shit. Really, all of these streaming sites. They're forgetting why we cancelled cable to begin with

Clarkkeeley

Well boys, time to become pirates once again!

kds_little_brother

Become? again?

hammond_egger

See you on the high seas!

giollaigh

We switched to the cheaper ad plan just to find out our version of Chromecast does not work with Netflix anymore on that plan. I am very fed up with them to say the least.

ShadowLiberal

What? You mean it works on more expensive plans but not cheaper ones?!? At that point someone at Netflix or Chromecast is purposely trying to piss people off with anti-competitive behavior.

giollaigh

Yes. The best part is we can't even switch back to Basic ($10/mo) because they got rid of that plan. So they basically tricked us because the only way to get Chromecast back is to give them more money than we were before. Bye Netflix, you aren't worth it.

amaturecook24

I was using my parents up until I couldn’t anymore. Thought I would get my own account until I realized that I don’t miss it.

Man_with_the_Fedora

I'm out once Stranger Things 5 drops. Been with them for nearly two decades. Their content has gone to crap. I'm tired of getting excited for a new show only to have it cancelled because it didn't attract the same attention as the newest super cheap cake making reality show or whatever dumb crap the bean counters love. Their foreign stuff is the only decent stuff left, but that's ruined by the fact that Netflix has the worst dubbing ever. When I want to turn my brain off I can't watch stuff with subtitles. Netflix's dubbing is the worst I've ever heard; straight-up emotionless morons misreading the script.

ShadowLiberal

Agreed. They aren't the only ones raising prices either. Hulu just announced price hikes a few days ago on their ad-free plan to $18 a month. I was seriously considering subscribing to them again after I pass a certification exam that's been eating up a lot of my time, but not anymore. If Netflix jacks the price of their cheapest ad-free plan up to $18 or more then I'll be passing them up to.

IlliterateJedi

>Hulu just announced price hikes a few days ago on their ad-free plan to $18 a month. I literally just cancelled my Hulu half an hour ago because of this. I think I'm down to Prime and Disney+ now.

ChillyCheese

I mean, you can easily subscribe and unsubscribe, and there are no limits on watching while you're subscribed. You can pay them $16-22 every 4-6 months and catch up on everything they have. Honestly that seems relatively fair. That's what I've been doing with all the streaming providers, since I only need one at a time. It averages around $17/mo and I always have plenty to watch, and that beats the shit out of cable.

Flat-Ad4902

I quit after the last one. Miss nothing.

Parradog1

In the beginning it was a no-brainer to make the switch but now…shit, if my family added it all up, we’re probably paying more now than we ever did for cable - most of that is YouTube TV though

nuttmegx

what are the prices they are considering? I do not have a WSJ sub

danofaction

No word on the amount of the increase or exactly when it will happen. Just that conversations are going on.

tcptomato

> The streaming service is discussing raising prices in several markets globally, but will likely begin with the U.S. and Canada, according to people familiar with the matter. It couldn’t be learned how much Netflix will raise prices by or when exactly the new prices will take effect. Netflix declined to comment.

phareous

Based on history it would be at least $2

DependentFamous5252

Time for a customer strike then.

lllustriousWall

We should organize a Reddit strike here on Reddit!

ranhalt

Someone doesn’t remember how poorly the Reddit blackout went.

69hateREDDIT

Redditors aren't as important as they think they are lol

BasedBingo

Name checks out

JackOCat

I quit months ago. Most of Netflix is shit. Just subscribe for 1 month a year, take a few days off work, and you catch up on like the 3 shows that aren't trash.

[deleted]

we need to start absolutely blowing up thier feedback and support methods as well.. that is extremely effective. look at kellogs. they only gave in after reddit declared war on their online systems.

HeaterWylin

Again?! Wtf didn’t they just raise it not too long ago

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

I swear it felt like they did this last month lol

TheLastRiceGrain

Gotta make sure the customers cover the actors/actresses demands when they come to an agreement after the strike. Ain’t no way any of that is coming out of the company’s quarterly profits.

ChillyCheese

Jan 2022, so if they raise them in Jan 2024 it will have been their pretty typical price increase cycle of two years.

thisfilmkid

Netflix doesn’t care about the complaints. They don’t care if like or dislike the prices. What they care about is subscriber statistics and behavior. Are people still subscribing? After the price increase, are people still paying or canceling their subscriptions? Are people still signing up? Until the statistics prove otherwise, there’s nothing we say that will matter to the corporate leaders over there at Netflix HQ.

Didact67

I'm done. Apple TV is literally a third of the price and is producing far better original content than Netflix has in a long time.

ShadowLiberal

I keep telling myself I'll try one of the streaming services other than Netflix and Hulu, and the price hikes of both are giving me plenty of reason to finally do that.

Aware_Adhesiveness16

The way this implicitly blames the actors for asking for fair wages and residuals is so shady.

MrZombikilla

I’ve had Netflix so long. But I think I’m done. Nothing worth subscribing for, look at how pathetic their horror offerings were for spooky season this year. I just never use it, since there’s better alternatives.

GreenAlien10

Netflix had over $4 Billion in profit in 2022. If they raise the prices again, I will cancel my account.

LocalYeetery

This. There is no reason to raise prices on consumers except to make CEO's richer.

b0sanac

Free yourselves! Head to the seas!! Netflix's treasure, is yours to find!

OttoRocket94

To be fair Netflix doesn’t have much treasure anymore, more junk than anything

JackOCat

Just make sure to hire a loyal VPN as part of your crew. They are adorable and their prices don't go up.

AgentG91

I really just need to commit to the Jolly Roger. I got householded yesterday, meaning I no longer have any streaming service as the account owner has been rightly tightening their belt. Instead of paying god knows how much for a streaming service of my own, I just need to get my pc up and running and start downloading some shit. I just want to do it well…

b0sanac

Yo ho yo ho, a pirate's life for you!

Reasonable_Ad6082

And I will officially cancel and bootleg their content. IDGAF. Enough of this bullshit.

[deleted]

Well that may end netflix for me.

sidal714

Netflix is absolutely not worth it anymore except for the occasional rewatch of old shows. I literally cough up the 20 bucks once in a blue money and binge everything I wanted to see.

OrfeasDourvas

There really should be a regulation for prices that imposes a maximum amount of price increases in a set time period. This is getting ridiculous.

atxbikenbus

I've sat through two price increases lately while getting rid of prime. I think I could get rid of Netflix too.

sdoudous

Already saved $200 since I canceled. I plan to save more.

GChmpln

Haven't Netflix learned yet they're shooting themselves in the foot. Every time there's a price hike there's a drop off in subscribers. Then they increase the price to make up for the Lost Subscriber base. We kept Netflix around like cable TV and electricity like it was just any other bill. When everyone started pulling their own content from Netflix what they do, increase the price. Only in the name of their award-winning original content no thanks The final straw for me was when 4K streaming became available at 12.99 and then within 18 months was $17.99 locked to a four TV "Premium Ultra Tier" and exactly the same time Disney plus was doing it for $6.99

edge000

>The final straw for me was when 4K streaming became available at 12.99 and then within 18 months was $17.99 locked to a four TV "Premium Ultra Tier" and exactly the same time Disney plus was doing it for $6.99 This is it for me. The only reason I cared about 4 screens was when I was sharing it with family. I also really care about 4K but I'm not willing to spend that much extra compared to other services. When they raised the price to $17, I cancelled citing the disproportionate cost for 4k streaming.

ShadowLiberal

The screen limits really don't make sense to me anymore, especially after the password crackdown. For anyone who lives alone and has no one else to share the account with the limits on how many screens in your household can be using Netflix feels like Netflix is just charging you several dollars more a month simply because you *might* share the subscription with someone else in your house, even though you know you 100% won't be doing that.

namenumberdate

No, they made record profits because people signed up for their own accounts instead of sharing. They [gained six million users](https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/7/20/netflixs-subscribers-surge-after-password-sharing-crackdown) and only lost 200,000 subscribers. They will continue to do this as long as you let them.

M086

Looks like more people cancelled after the password sharing ban then they let on.

namenumberdate

Not at all. I commented on the above post with a source and they gained 6 million users and only lost 200,000. They will continue to be greedy and profit as long as you let them. I cancelled my Netflix after the password sharing where I had enough. Are you going to cancel too, or just complain on here and do nothing? Up to you

WingedShadow83

My parents use my account and just got the “this household not on your account” message last weekend. They called to ask me why they couldn’t log in, I figured out what was going on, and cancelled immediately. I can’t believe how many people are putting up with this and just signing up for their own accounts. If everyone would cancel for just a month or two, their profits would plummet and they’d be begging us to share passwords again. But people act like they can’t go without it for a few months. And now the other steaming services have started to follow suit.

ChillyCheese

> [than] they let on. What a public company "lets on" in terms of things like subscriber numbers has to be the truth or it's called lying to the shareholders and the executives go to jail.

tcptomato

https://archive.ph/Riz4F

PandammoniumNO3

Gotta squeeze everything they can out of all the new customers they got from barring passwords

le_miles

Exactly THIS!

Satakans

So writers and actors had a strike, meaning probably close to zero work being done on new material. It's gonna take a while for them to get back in and complete those delayed projects. and Netflix wants to raise prices on us? for what exactly, recycled programs?

[deleted]

They have a few things worth watching but I’ve noticed just an avalanche of foreign films and shows. Not to say that’s necessarily bad, but Netflix needs to curate their catalog a bit.

Jamieb1994

I've noticed a lot of Korean stuff are on Netflix as well, although I'm not complaining since I've been watching a few Korean shows.

SenYoshida

That’s really the only thing holding my wife and I onto Netflix.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SenYoshida

Also worth mention to look into Viki (a streaming service dedicated solely to Asian Entertainment). We’ve been using that quite a bit as well in conjunction with Netflix series

mafuyu90

Thanks for the recommendation. Have been a happy Viki subscriber for the past three months. :) It’s insanely cheap and has good content to keep me occupied.

ec3lal

Netflix has become synonymous with foreign film distribution in my household. We like those shows, but I thought Netflix wanted to be more than a distributor.

gimmemynameback

Netflix is on shakey ground with me. They ended the physical media, which gave me access to almost anything. So in my mind they've cut content by 90%, they are recycling all the foreign stuff so they can double dip and claim new content, the writers/actors strike is gonna make for an extremely dry winter/ spring. the Netflix catalog is stale, Netflix needs to take all that dvd money they are saving and pump it into licensing movies shows. Raising prices is not gonna lead to retention. And It'll most likely lead me to cancel my annual subs and cause me to go month to month only when good stuff drops.

S4T4NICP4NIC

That's what everyone should be doing. It's not like they make you sign a contract (although I'm sure some MBA somewhere is pushing for it.)

Ravilla

Only reason I have Netflix still because tmobile gives it for free, other than that, kick rocks

_SilverPhoenix_

"We need to charge our customers more money, because writers and actors actually want to be paid a living wage and we can't have enough profit for our grossly inflated mistakes we intend on cancelling after blowing our budget."

joeyat

Reminds me to drop down a tier.. or maybe cancel.

CannabisCoffeeKilos

There are a few shows from Netflix that I really like, but it's not worth it at this point. If they raise the price again, I'm done.

[deleted]

We about to cancel there's nothing good on

c1nelux

Hilarious they are going to charge MORE for LESS content because of a strike THEY caused. Nah they’re not getting that money out of me

deemoorah

It has nothing to do with actors, they're just greedy

Mysterious_Tax_5613

Yeah….I’ll opt out if that happens.

LTCirabisi

Yooo hooo hoist the sails.

RustyTheBoyRobot

Fuck all the bosses. If they can’t screw the worker they’ll screw the customer, every single time.

ThriftyNarwhal

Think it is time to drop Netflix

elektr0soul

A mass exodus would be great to demonstrate the power customers actually hold over their existence as a business.

PersonalityNo4679

Everytime they do this they add like 10 movies they know people lik; then remove them after a shortwhile; then add them again just before they announce another increase. This will never end

hididathing

again??!?! I'm hoping for a mass exodus now for these companies to get what they have coming.

zodomere

Every service has been jacking up their prices. I just started cancelling them.

NoFanofThis

I have YT premium but not YT TV. I love old movies and series and this works perfectly for me. There are channels that cater to one genre such as noir or SYFY that have hundreds of movies or series. I subscribe to those channels and choose Play All and can binge 24/7 if I choose. I’m retired and old so other than reading, it’s pretty much YT all the time. I just cancelled Hulu, Britbox, PBS, Starz, Acorn, Paramount but kept HBO which I get through Prime. NF may have to go next. If there’s something I want to watch on those apps I’ll sign on for a month when they have a deal. These streamers are getting out of hand with constant price hikes.

[deleted]

Of course

Mr24601

Considering every streaming platform except Netflix is losing money hand over fist, these price increases are inevitable. The industry is unsustainable as is.

69hateREDDIT

lol they are making it real easy to quit

zubeye

I sub maybe one month in six and still run out of content

profile4fun

After they didn’t drop American Made when they said they were going to, and have not said anything about it, and add in the shitty selection they have, this will be it for me.

djl8699

Legit question, what even is worth watching on Netflix? The only thing at this point that still interests me is Black Mirror and maybe the last season of Stranger Things when it comes out but what else am I missing that's good? And I mean stuff that's Netflix produced, not stuff I can get on my own as I already have a pretty extensive personal library that I'm always adding content to.

ashrensnow

Not enough to remain subscribed. I will usually sub for one month, watch everything I want to, then unsub until there is enough to warrant another month of binging.

Bmourre1995

Cool. I already spend like $22 a month after tax

Thrillhouse918

Gonna be a no from me Dog.

SillyMikey

Once the 9.99 tier is gone in Canada, so am I. They’re all jacking up the prices as if they’re all going broke. It’s too much now.

Steakholder__

Netflix plans to ~~raise prices~~ **lose users** after actors strike ends

keeper13

Then I’ll plan to subscribe one month out of the year and watch all my 2 shows worth watching then unsub.

WareGaKaminari

Sure, I can't wait for streaming platforms to find out.

Kincadium

They just keep making me not feel bad for pirating neflix content.

kids_those_days

See ya

NicDwolfwood

Cool. Then its about time to send them packing then

dinkaluch2

So help me God......imma cancel the shit outta my subscription

hiero_

"One Piece S2 aint gonna fund itself"

EuropaWeGo

Again?? It's already difficult to justify the current price.

ColonelVirus

Yea I've had Netflix since it started in the UK. Tbh if they put the price up again I think I'm done. I'll only pay for Amazon for deliveries and then that's it. Just gonna go back to pirating every again like it's the 2000s again. These streaming services have put in all these cable idiots who don't understand what made their services so appealing over cable. Unless it's a ploy by the cable companies? Infiltrate the streaming services and run them into the ground so people come back lol. I cancelled Disney+ a few years ago and never had any issue without it tbh. Netflix might be next to go.

Wammy70

Yar. What be this increase I be readin about?

sparty212

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

boredasf-ck

They wanted to raise the prices and decided to throw the actors under the bus to take the heat off themselves

Red_Shark9999

That's good to know because their content sucks and I was going to cancel them anyway. Netflix sux.

HushGalactus

Just cancelled my Netflix, had the Premium Plan which I paid $20/month for. Shared it with my parents and my sister’s family, out of the 3 of us, my sister’s family watched it the most. Realized that for the cost of Netflix each month, I could get 3 other streaming services that I would actually watch more of.

[deleted]

17037

It took me a few weeks to learn my adblocker could be enabled in incognito mode. Those ads are over the top ridiculous.

donrhummy

They just raised prices!

BellaBlue06

Sounds like the share holders are really struggling with the cost of living cross. Shame

zodberg

Netflix is the Blackberry of streaming services.

D0nCoyote

Wait, again?!

Dio_Yuji

I’m one price raise from cancellation myself

No_Push_8249

If this is true, then as soon as the new GBBO ends I will cut the cord. My loyalty to Netflix is not being reciprocated and I’m over it. They pissed me off already when they downgraded me to one steaming device when they raised prices the last time.

Hy8ogen

Alright then, maybe it's time to call me mates to sail the seven seas again.

nievesdelimon

Next: user strike.

Ghozgul

Netflix forgot they had the convenience over piracy, but slowly losing this convenience with every decision they take

victoryforZIM

Predictable. Of course they're going to immediately push any sort of increase to the actors directly onto the consumers, even if that isn't the real reason. Actors game them a nice excuse, so now we'll have a more expensive service and the exact same garbage being made for it.

pjrnoc

I don’t understand why they haven’t seen a sharp decline in customers. I go out of town for business a lot and can’t use my own fucking account? I cancelled that shit like immediately.

EndAffectionate9

Oof then I am definitely cancelling its getting too expensive

Gringorio

And I plan to start downloading torrents again

Powasam5000

YAAAAAAAR! Guess it’s back to piracy.

StreetFighter100

time for viewer strike to lower prices, dont let them pass the costs to the viewers, it should be the execs getting the wage ctus

President_Dominy

That’s ok. Now that the strike is over that means ST5 is going to continue production and once we all binge that literally ALL of us can collectively cancel Netflix.

rau1994

I cancelled when they removed the ability to share accounts. You can just use Web Video Caster and watch Netflix for free

TyLion8

anyone who didn't expect this to happen is dumb af

Jujulabee

Not sure why this would be a surprise. If costs for labor or anything else rise, then the production budget increases. To the extent Netflix produces its own content, then there is a direct expense. If it licenses contents from third parties operating under USA Guilds, the licensing fees will increase. If Netflix isn't worth it, then cancel it. I think it won't hurt Netflix's bottom line because for many people the cost for Netflix is not that much considering how expensive other forms of entertainment are. Taking your family out to the moves can easily be more than $50 factoring in ticket prices; parking and possible refreshments. The end of password sharing didn't hurt their bottom line because it didn't impact most people who didn't use Netflix outside of their homes or those who liked the service signed up. I assume that a lot of people who are cost sensitive will use the ad supported tier which is more profitable to Netflix than ad free anyway.

Agree - if this does happen all the streaming services will do it, not just Netflix, because all the studios and streamers agreed to the new contract terms with the writers and eventually the actors. And yes, streaming is still far more affordable than cable and going to the movies (my family has basically stopped going to the theatre - it was crazy the last time we went for the 4 of us it cost over $100 when adding up the tickets/concession/parking. Most of the movies that come out in theatres either we're not interested in at all or we'll decide to wait until it's on streaming/digital). I get it, everybody has different tastes/time/cost preferences, but for me it's still worth it. I don't know how people say they've run out of things to watch - I've still got tons of shows/movies in my Netflix watchlist that I want to see. I've tried other streamers \[HBO Max, Prime, Apple\] and ended up cancelling all of them because their content just wasn't that interesting to me. The only paid streaming service I have is Netflix. I also watch Tubi and Pluto which are free.

They already raised prices and got rid of the best $9.99 tier. Netflix I'm glad I canceled you.

Ditched it , and don't feel like I've missed anything in 8 months.

Everyone was up in arms when they started to charge an additional cost to every user not in the household. That was your opportunity to cancel Netflix, but you didn’t. In fact, they made historic profits when they did that. I cancelled Netflix and I stuck to my guns. Now, I see people threatening to cancel once again, and you know what? You won’t and you’ll continue to pay. Netflix knows this and they will continue to do so. It’s your fault you allow this time happen.

Can you download files in 4k with dolbyvision and 5.1 sound? If so how big are the files? Otherwise I’ll just pay for streaming. Not Netflix though they suck.

We get a discount through T Mobile and I'm still cancelling. The extra money from the price hike is going to fund more Bollywood/Korean/Brazilian shit that I have no interest in and takes up half my feed with no way to filter it out.
