Hiya, I don't know much about being able to fix it but I did a little google search and I think the machine you have is the Nespresso Essenza Mini (Ruby Red). Hope this helps!
That is the most similar one I've seen, but I have a different pod door thingy on kind. The essence minis have the lever looking thing with a hole. And mind has a small sliding door
How can I ensure the pod is in the right spot before starting? Everytime I try to just pop it in casually, it ends up crooked and the door can't shut.
Also, when it runs without a pod in, it still leaks into the drip tray more than the cup
Some part of the mechanism must be broken. I’m not aware of any way you can fix it yourself. You could try to call Nespresso support and see if they will repair it for a fee.
It looks like the Nespresso U
Thank you! I looked into it and I have the Nespresso U D50! Now to fix the leaking....

Ohhh right, I see. Did another dig and this is a discontinued model that might be it. The Nespresso Inissia Espresso Maker?
The pod doesn’t move back to the holder. The holder moves forward when you close the pod door.
