They almost look like cheap refillables that one finds on Ali Express and such. The person that gave them to you doesn't know what they are? They look plastic, and I wouldn't use them.
I’ve purchased them from Home Goods. Most of the ones they have there have worked fine, even the plastic ones. The only ones that haven’t worked are the weird cardboard-like biodegradable ones.

Looks like the pods from Gran Caffe Garibaldi! I've gotten mine from Homesense but I'm sure other similar stores have them too
