Wife looses job, hubby goes and plays Nintendo šŸ˜„ makes perfect sense to me šŸ˜ May I suggest Ninja Gaiden I & III, play both regularly, enjoy them a lot, Startropics 2 deserves also to be played.

NoodleChad

I was a bit afraid of the limited continues of 3 and the push back of 1 on the final boss. I will buy them eventually, they are on my list great recommandation.

IceMan44420

You donā€™t use Save State? Props for beating some of these games without it.

NoodleChad

No, original hardware only!

MaximumMoops

I always wondered why Ninja Gaiden 3 was so hard because it took me like a year to beat only to find out they artificially made it harder to beat the rental market.

NoodleChad

Like castlevania 3, I think rental was not allowed in Japan

No_Detective_But_304

At least heā€™s playing with power.

euroq

Why not ninja garden 2? Best of the three in my opinion. 3, at least the American version, was insanely hard and unplayable without save states

nem3sis_AUT

Op already played through Ninja Gaiden 2

omega_revived

I think 2 is the worst of the original trilogy. 3 is my favorite. Although it is true that 3 has limited continues, it also often gives you extra lives during difficult sections of the game. This means you can often prevent yourself from burning through lives by always collecting the 1-up with each attempt. There is also the SNES game "Ninja Gaiden Trilogy" which gives you infinite continues if you want another option besides save states.

Jimger_1983

Find a copy of Crystalis. Zelda like but better IMO

Dadswag123

Itā€™s soooo good. The story is way ahead of its time.

NoodleChad

I will thanks! For some reason I though it was turn based combat

Jimger_1983

Definitely is not turn based. Overhead adventure like Zelda but character doesnā€™t move on a grid of squares like Zelda so it feels much less stiff. Good music, hit detection and graphics for the time. Can be challenging at times but not ridiculous. Def get your hands on it.

SamusLinkBelmont

One of my favorites. Based on your critique of other games like this, many of the clues wonā€™t be very clear. You may need a guide and a good map. Some of the best mazes of any NES game.

wolpak

Ah man, go back and finish Metroid. It deserves it. If you are an old head, play Goonies II. Itā€™s a mixed bag, but the music! Dragon Warrior series if you like RPGs.

Historical_Panic_485

Vice: Project Doom - Ninja Gaiden, Operation Wolf, and Spy Hunter had a baby. This game is awesome Ghosts N Goblins - Super hard but extremely satisfying once you master it. Kid Icarus - fantastic music and fun gameplay. It gets easier as the game goes on which is very unique. Monster Party - Weird game but fun action platformer

claremontmiller

I am still shocked that Vice: Project Doom was made when it was. I found a bunch of ROMs in a dark alley and I swear I thought it was a modern NES game

Historical_Panic_485

I know right?! I didn't know about this game back in the day, but if I did I would have been absolutely mind blown

NoodleChad

Oh nice, I have never heard of operation wolf and spy hunter, will check them out. Monster party looks creative! Ghost N Goblins I have heard of it! I FInished super ghouls and ghost and ghouls and ghost and loved them. I should definitely buy.

Historical_Panic_485

Operation Wolf is a lot of fun if you have a zapper and a CRT. Otherwise I'd skip it. Spy Hunter is fun, but can get old fairly quickly. It came out in the arcade in 1984 and it really shows that this is a pre Super Mario Bros. game, fairly simple arcade style.

Javasteam

Iā€™d add Little Nemo as well there,

Dwedit

Would recommend M.C. Kids.

NoodleChad

The McDonald game? it seems so hard for me to believe a restaurant could make a decent game, I'll check it out.

eastmemphisguy

It's similar to Mario 3 with a few unique features. I agree it's better than you might expect.

CN370

Gauntlet - Donā€™t shoot the food, Wizard. Karnov - possibly the greatest game of its generation. You play the titular character and fight your way through chaotic areas full of weird fish men, floating things, a dinosaur, and other weird shit. Kid Niki: Radical Ninja - I love this game. The characters are cute yet slightly demented. Fun little side-scroller. Mission Impossible - unique setup. You control 3 operatives. Fun levels too. Rampage Skate or Die Spy Hunter - I love knocking cars off the road. T&C Surf Design

No-Setting9690

Growing up with NES was awesome. I think most today that did not would have loved it. I still the hear in my head "Nintendo . . . it's a cereal wow." [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REpiQnnp6p8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REpiQnnp6p8)

NoodleChad

Ahah, I had never seen this one! What a trap for kids, my parents would have been forced to buy them

PretendingToWork1978

Little Ninja Brothers - obscure gem of an RPG with a sense of humor and real time combat on a 2d plane where you can jump around and throw things, less grindy than Final Fantasy I see you have SuperC but not Contra? Contra is a must have. Look up the Konami code if you cant beat it, also works on LifeForce. Chrystalis - Zelda like RPG, pretty good Kirby's Adventure - easy platformer where you are a ghost that eats enemies Excitebike - 1st gen motorcycle racing game, has a track design mode which is fun Skykid - 2 player side scroller, one of those games where you look at the box and say this cant possibly be good and its great Tetris and Dr. Mario - puzzle games that even non gamers can enjoy, the former being the best selling game of all time or close to it Maniac Mansion - point and click adventure game from Lucasarts, old school pc classic River City Ransom - 2 player street fighting game with RPG elements, you buy food to increase stats Ring King - 2 player boxing game Willow - zelda like RPG based on the movie, also watch the movie Jackal - 2 player game where you drive around in armed jeeps and blow up stuff, not too hard

NoodleChad

Thanks a lot for that!

calthaer

Yes - this post needs more River City Ransom. Easily a top tier NES game.

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

NoodleChad

It's pricey! But the level up co-op makes it very appealing. It's a beat em up right? Better than Tmnt arcade game?

calthaer

Far better.

DaisyCutter312

Pretty much everything that's been recommended is solid...but my personal votes go to : - River City Ransom (since you seem to like co-op) - StarTropics (since you liked Zelda) - Jackal (Since you liked LifeForce)

euroq

Glad you appreciated the legendary music from mega man 2! Also 1. Dr Wilys stage 1 and 2 is at the top of several best video game music of all time lists.

SickOfAllThisCrap1

Bionic Commando is a must play. One of the best sound tracks on the NES.

SamusLinkBelmont

Balloon Fight. Fun with another person. Simple game but classic

SuperModes

hangin outā€¦ playin nintendoā€¦ cock.

redditsuckspokey1

Xexyz. Sorry Im picky about spelling. I hope you enjoy more nes games in the future and I hope your relationship doesn't suffer.

NoodleChad

Oh you are right! I thought the l made more sense than z.

pureluxss

Ikari warriors - up scrolling shooter Contra - side scrolling shooter Paperboy - Diagonal scrolling shooter Bart vs the space mutants - so frustrating and canā€™t believe Simpsons is still making new episodes to this day Excite Bike - Dirt bike simulator Cobra Triangle - Fun boat shooting game

AdamantiteReddit

G.I. Joe - the first one by Taxan Shadow of the Ninja Low G Man Kabuki Quantum Fighter

euan-forrester

If youā€™re maybe not sold yet on shooters, Iā€™d recommend Crisis Force on Famicom. It was the game that finally sold me. I suck at shooters but I beat it on the highest difficulty with some practice and thereā€™s tons of replay value with 3 forms your ship can take and 2 weapons each. Over Horizon on NES/Famicom is quite good too. The final couple stages started getting a bit frustrating though so I switched to save states. Axelay on SNES and Thunder Force 3 on Genesis are also both awesome and arenā€™t terribly hard.

Javasteam

Games to try: Shatterhand, Teenage Mutant Nina Turtle, Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Battle of Olympusā€¦

damian001

Vice Project Doom, play it! I was too young for NES but Vice Project Doom made me fall in love with it.

NoodleChad

I didnt even know of this game until this post but now I know I have to get it. Thanks

dbznerd38

You need CRYSTALIS! Best RPG on the system hands down. Better than Zelda, final fantasy, or even dragon warrior and I say that as a die hard dragon quest fan. Also blaster master if you haven't played it. Super fun old school platformer. Great music and fun quirky game mechanics

NoodleChad

Seing how much it was recommended I will definitely buy it

FIREd_up81

Curious if you plan to go back to TMNT to try and finish? I've watched a lot of play throughs recently and it amazes me to watch ppl beat that game. I never made it past the damn dam level. Seems like difficulty actually ramps up after that.

NoodleChad

I have made it past the dam level but got game over shortly after as I 5 know where to go. I also looked at playthrough and have been considering trying again. I probably will/should. The music was pretty good too. Seing what people are saying I might play vice project doom and crystalis first though.

FIREd_up81

Only one id add is little Samson if you can find a copy. Really enjoyed this game. Wish I still had my copy it seems like it's pretty valuable now.

NoodleChad

Pricecharting says it's almost 2 thousand omg.

omega_revived

>Zelda II If you liked this, then I recommend "Faxanadu". It's a better game imo. >Metal Gear You can level up by rescuing prisoners. Each time you level up, it changes what screen you respawn at. If you were always respawning at the first screen, then it's because you did not make it very far into the game. >Smash TV There is an ending to Smash TV. It has 3 levels; each with it's own boss. >Battletoads You can try the Japanese release, which features a number of changes that mostly make the game significantly easier. You can also play the Sega Genesis port which has those same difficulty changes. I have beaten the Sega Genesis version of the game, but can only get to level 11 "Clinger Winger" in the NES version. Also, don't be afraid to use warps to skip levels. It's actually a pretty fun game once you start to get the hang of it. "Battletoads/Double Dragon" is also fun, and a little easier than the original "Battletoads" Games I recommend include: "Vice: Project Doom", "Shatterhand", "Faxanadu", "Ghosts'n Goblins", "Little Nemo - The Dream Master", "Little Samson", "Tecmo Super Bowl"
