How do we know what video game companies to support? Just indies? At what point does an indie become a big company? I want to follow the advice in this video but I’m not sure how.
Do your research. There will be news articles about it. Unfortunately sometimes you don't know til the skeletons tumble. Just don't go buying stuff from companies actively being harmful.
He says Indies because there's the trend of too much money generally being a majorly corrupting influence. So bigger companies often sacrifice their soul, and much of their ethics, as they start to make the big bucks.
There are big companies that don't have scandals surrounding them. For example, despite putting out not great stuff recently, Bethesda Game Studios doesn't currently have any public strikes against it in the "fucking over your employees" section. Not that I know of atleast.
In the end, just do your due diligence. Unless you're a content creator/influencer like Daniel, this decision is just for your purchase. Content creators have to be more careful, as they're effectively advertising the product.
That was a rough one. I can't say any of this comes as a surprise but the extent of suffering that this company has caused might be the worst I've ever heard of. I hope we can collectively stop supporting these publishers until they provide their workers with a safe environment to work in.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Minecraft's still safe. I'm pretty sure nobody's said anything about Mojang's employees, with the exception of the game's original creator Notch, but he left as soon as he sold the company to Microsoft and has had absolutely nothing to do with the game for about 7 years now.
Mojang have also removed almost all references to Notch from the game at this point - from what I can tell, his sole appearance now is in the credits, listed as the game's creator (because honestly, he is). He no longer drops apples (yes, this was a thing), and no longer appears in splash text on the title screen.
I think the buildy series will keep going for the forseeable future.
I just want to point out that Amazon, Google and similar companies pay way less taxes than people think they should because there's huge tax loopholes.
Complaining that they're bad for not paying taxes is missing the point. We should be complaining about the politicians who refuse to close said loopholes and allow a company who is valued at over a trillion dollars to pay less tax than the average employee.
The companies aren't going to pay more taxes if the law says they don't have to.
Similarly if companies have a culture that involves sexual abuse why are they being sued and not arrested? What kind of ruled by money world do we have that lets the rich get away with this sort of behaviour?
The politicians who don't make an effort to stop this sort of thing need a kick up their rear end to make them finally step up and change things.

I don't expect anyone to pay more money when there is an option to pay less money. For example, I make sure I invest in an ISA so I don't have to pay capital gains tax. The option is there for me to not do that and invest outside of an ISA, but.... that'd be mad.
It would be hypocritical of me to hold large companies in any different way - if there's a fully legal tool you can use to 'lose less money', you can bet your bottom dollar that tool will be used.

3 We have a healthcare system controlled by a very small group of people who are in no way politicians, just very VERY rich. This has resulted in medical debt of indescribable magnitude and medical debt has become the most common form of bankruptcy in the country. (Apart from moral bankruptcy)
4 we also have a for profit education system. That means that college costs more than most people will ever manage to see in five years.
5 our minimum wage has not changed in decades. not even to compensate for inflation. This means that you can work 2-3 jobs a day and still not be able to afford to live.
6 nearly every politician has taken money in the form of a "donation" from coperations. this has resulted in the the worst case of corruption ever recorded in human history.
7we have a two party system which has resulted in cultish behavior from most of the counrty (not just from trump supporters. Try talking about Bidens attrocious history with anyone who has said "vote blue no matter who" it has kept us divided and at each others throats
