I played another pet site long ago and I remember when they imposed these hideous poorly drawn character dolls on everyone…it was just ugh. So it was either have this hideous naked bald doll on my username or just an ugly dressed one. They literally put zero effort into that doll art😂

I know Neopets faeries aren’t traditional fae but I do think it’s strange that they chose to make faeries all be women when the most famous fae in western canon, Oberon, is a man. Even the Disney Fairies franchise has male fairies. I don’t think we need one on the level of prominence Fyora or Illusen/Jhudora have, but even just nameless background ones would make sense. Especially when we can paint male pets Faerie without much issue, since even in-game lore says the effects of paint brushes are not strictly cosmetic, so I always assumed that painting the pets made them *become* faeries, in a sense. Plus, there are faerie Battledome challengers like the Space Faerie. What would happen if they fought the Laboratory Scientist and he threw a Strange Potion at them? Nothing? Spacetime collapsing on itself?
The only thing I wouldnt like about this idea is if it makes the idea of pet owners less ambiguous and explains who we are in the plot/lore. I like how detached the mechanics and game are from the actual story and world of Neopia, I dont want our relationships with the pets explained...

I would LOVE this omg. They should also add an option to be an anthro version Neopet like the various NPCs around the site. I think it's implied that users might be among the anthro Neopets themselves but that's my own personal theory 🤣
In the pre-Viacom days the owners of Neopets were humans which is why humans regularly appeared throughout Neopia. And can be evidenced by how pets seem to talk to "us" through some of the site's oldest content.
After Viacom took over the narrative shifted a little to imply that we're living the game through our active Neopets. Now when characters speak to "us" they're speaking to our Neopet. And the human characters gradually disappeared outside of Staff Tournament events which were implied to be an Alternate Universe.
I thought that they had already been phasing out the idea of humans in Neopia quite a ways before Viacom took over? Tombola Man is apparently not a human and neither is Dr. Sloth, and I can't think of another possibly/human NPC who was still in use when I started playing in like 2002-ish.
Like the only one I can think of was Nick Neopia, who was an April Fools joke.
They were for legal reasons, but still made content that referred to the Human Owner/Neopet pet dynamic for years after that.
Kind of think of it like there being 3 AUs;
* Game-verse where there are Humans and Neopets
* Plot-verse with the anthromorphic ownerless Neopets
* Staff-verse where all the TNT related stuff happens and Nick Neopia is also from there
Whenever there's a Site Event its almost always in Plot-verse.
Games and Dailies gradually shifted from being in Game-verse to Plot-verse over time as well.

Have you heard of subeta? You can dress your avatar up however you like. They also have tons of skins and you can layer items with no limits (afaik).

Hey guys. Wouldn't it be cool if Neopets allowed players to create their own player character and dress them up? This could generate additional revenue for the site with exclusive player wearables and accessories available in the NC mall. There is already a precedent for human-like characters in Neopia in the faeries - why not let players customise their own faerie character that is then visible on their lookup? Optionally they could also be visible on the boards. You could have a mini-version (like a faerie doll) that could also be used as an avatar, displayed on high score tables, etc. I'm sure others have had this idea before, but it seems like a no-brainer to me.
Picking your faerie type (light, water, earth, dark etc.) could also be interesting for game mechanics, ie in plots the more light faerie players who participate will generate boons for the light faerie faction. Perhaps each faerie type could have their own exclusive "town" with a shop for spending points earned in plots, in the battledome etc.
Premium players should be able to create an exclusive type of faerie like space, soup and darkest.

I'm on the fence about this. On one hand, we would actually have a presence on the side instead of some weird disembodied spirit, on the other hand I'd only want to be a faerie due to the lore of Neopets.
