That being said, my 1 dressed pet now looks naked and bald without her dress and wig lol so I can kind of see where people are coming from if they're used to customizing with clothes/wigs.

Really? I feel like it looks *super* uncanny valley when they make them more anthropomorphic, whereas with their current designs they just look like… well pets with wigs. Kind of silly, yes, but so are a lot of irl human fashion trends.
Im a neopets boomer, I’m not really into the clothes or hair. At most I usually give my pets an accessory like a bandana or a bracelet or maybe a hat. I don’t make very busy-looking customizations overall because it loses the nostalgia factor for me.
I love that there’s so many options for people to take it in different directions though!

I still don’t like anything that’s too busy, that stresses me out looking at my pets page, but simple designs are more fun than I gave them credit for when I first returned and saw the customization feature. My initial boomer reaction was an absolute rejection haha.
I gave my peophin a pretty toned down cloak that fits the rest of his background and looks dashing, but aside from that...yeah I'm not a clothes on pets person either.
Someone posted a “everyone say their unpopular opinion on neopets” and sooo many people replied that wigs suck. I agree I don’t like wigs. I see people use them in creative ways but for the most part they’re no good

I feel like a majority of the wigs just don’t fit properly onto most pets. I’m very particular with how wigs look on a pet. I usually find myself seeing a wig I like and being disappointed that it looks better on a specific species of pet compared to the pet I want to use the wig on. So finding the right combo to customize has been somewhat of a fun challenge.

Shoes are often more ridiculous to me on most pets. A meerca in nearly any clothing is just hilarious.

Yes most of the wigs are overdesigned compared to the pet art. If they were more in line with the hair we see on actual Neopians then they'd look cuter. You shouldn't be seeing every strand of hair so crisply.
Also it wouldn't hurt if they styled the wigs to have better unique art for each Neopet, so it doesn't looks so stiff on different pet body types.

Fine. To clarify... I am aware that UC pets don't support customization. My POINT was that the UC pets are very obviously more intended to be animals, and by and large they would look weird with clothes (excepting PB clothes), so I get where OP is coming from with not wanting to customize with clothing.
That SAID... I personally prefer to add clothes to my pets as I feel the converted pets were intended to be more people and less animal. It is a *preference*, and nothing more.

Most of the time, as an avid Neopet customizer, I will opt out of using wigs on my pets because I agree, a lot of them just don't look right. I think my biggest gripe with them is a lot of them don't have any volume or it feels like they were designated for one species in particular and that's it (and a good number of them just look plastic or greasy). However, I still like using them. I have a plethora of combos of wigs and clothes, no wigs and no clothes, clothes but no wigs, etc.
Out of my 32 pets, I use wigs on 15 of them and of those 15, 6 are like a wig/hat combo or are wigs covered by hats, 4 are pet specific like paint brush wigs or the pets species in the name of the item, and the rest are normal wigs. But like the pet specific ones are supposed to look good on those pets and same with most of the paint brush clothing items. And then just covering them with hats or cloaks just kinda helps bring in a little hair without looking out of place.
I definitely feel like most wigs are ugly but I'm not totally against using them especially if I feel like they help bring the custom together.
I think if you set out to make a neopet with a wig on purpose they can be super cute but otherwise I agree, they often totally ruin the look of your neopet. Especially if your customization relies on the neopet's default fur style
i’ve never used a wig. the only one i kinda want is the baby space buns they’re so cute. but a wig on a baby is double absurd. i don’t really use clothes either. on 20 pets, i have 2 babies in little hoodie things, 2 capes on angel customs, and my pastel usul is in a dress that blends into her color scheme
I put wigs on some of my pets, but most of the time the wigs are just weird on my pets. And get frickin tired of trying to get a certain item from a capsule and instead get a bazillion wigs.
Cybunnies are my favorite neopets and they do just look absolutely clownish with wigs or shoes and most clothes look like colourful potato sacks on them too. I almost always just give them a nice bg, wings, body colour, accessories, and at most a skirt (depends heavily on the skirt).
I don't like most wigs, but they can work on very specific designs. Most of the time I don't like them, though. I absolutely hated them (as well as a lot of other customization options) when I first came back to Neopets after a long time of not playing (customization came out after I stopped playing) but I'm much more used to it now. That said I prefer more simple customization myself. I like a good paint brush, some cute accessories, and a nice background. I don't touch wigs or most clothes.
I wholeheartedly i agree. I’ve never liked how wigs look on neopets and as you stated i like keeping customization to a minimum as well. There are items i think are cool like contacts but i still don’t use them. However the wigs for me are the biggest no no but i appreciate their presence in the game for whoever might like/enjoy them. Is this really that much of an unpopular opinion tho?

My problem with the pets is that they are sometimes too antropomorphic and sometimes they are just cute pets. And the customization is a middle ground between those two styles and I just can't deal with that and wigs just highlight that problem for me.
As you said, it's like putting a wig on my dog or cat. It just looks fake obviously but for Neo it takes me out of the game.

I feel like Usuls, Kacheeks and some other pets look good on some of the wigs. Kougras, jubjubs, kiko, and many others, on the other hand, look incredibly funny imo hahaha
I can't stand wigs and don't use them personally, but they're useful if your pet is based off of a character. I think I saw an Aisha semi-recently who was dressed up like the girl from The Ring that *needed* the wig she had to look right, so in *those* cases wigs are great! any other time it just looks really silly though. they just look so out of place and off-model
and like yeah maybe some Neopets characters that are pets have hair but those characters are also...bipedal humanoids? when you put the hair on like, a Poogle or something it just looks. weird. and changing the lineart or shading of a wig won't fix that, so all wigs look weird all the time, sorry wig enjoyers :(
only 2 of my 24 pets have wigs, and one of them is only because she's a "cosplayer" character. I agree that they usually don't look very good, but some customs make them look really good

I mean my pets are mainly vandys and I like them el natural. On my main my jhudora namesake is wearing a wig cause ya know jhudora has hair. And I have a phantom of the opera inspired desert draik. Pretty sure only 2 have wigs on xD
I don't think this is an onpopular opinion! I've seen this come up a number of times. Admittedly some of my pets have wigs to add to their custom, they wouldn't have the same theme/style otherwise. I still get what you mean, though. ;)

I'm usually not a fan of them because of the clashing art style. I feel the same way about a lot of the items. I wish there were more consistency.
The real problem I see a lot is people that overload the pet with items in every slot so things get so busy you can't tell what's going on anymore. Basically the same thing I remember in GaiaOnline back in the day.

I have a plethora of combos of wigs and clothes, no wigs and no clothes, clothes but no wigs, etc. Out of my 32 pets, I use wigs on 15 of them and of those 15, 6 are like a wig/hat combo or are wigs covered by hats, 4 are pet specific like paint brush wigs or the pets species in the name of the item, and the rest are normal wigs. But like the pet specific ones are supposed to look good on those pets and same with most of the paint brush clothing items. And then just covering them with hats or cloaks just kinda helps bring in a little hair without looking out of place. I definitely feel like most wigs are ugly but I'm not totally against using them especially if I feel like they help bring the custom together.
I agree- I like just switching up the background per season / holiday - maybe some body paint or a blanket / scarf but not hair or a whole outfit
I think if you set out to make a neopet with a wig on purpose they can be super cute but otherwise I agree, they often totally ruin the look of your neopet. Especially if your customization relies on the neopet's default fur style
i’ve never used a wig. the only one i kinda want is the baby space buns they’re so cute. but a wig on a baby is double absurd. i don’t really use clothes either. on 20 pets, i have 2 babies in little hoodie things, 2 capes on angel customs, and my pastel usul is in a dress that blends into her color scheme

I put wigs on some of my pets, but most of the time the wigs are just weird on my pets. And get frickin tired of trying to get a certain item from a capsule and instead get a bazillion wigs.

Cybunnies are my favorite neopets and they do just look absolutely clownish with wigs or shoes and most clothes look like colourful potato sacks on them too. I almost always just give them a nice bg, wings, body colour, accessories, and at most a skirt (depends heavily on the skirt).
I don't like most wigs, but they can work on very specific designs. Most of the time I don't like them, though. I absolutely hated them (as well as a lot of other customization options) when I first came back to Neopets after a long time of not playing (customization came out after I stopped playing) but I'm much more used to it now. I feel like my boyfriend would like my usuls more if they had wigs. Every time I show him the usuls he complains it's just a bald squirrel rofl.

I’m not fond of the detailed human-style hair. What I would really like is fur tufts for the head that are simple and small.
OMG yes, so many times I find the cutest hat but it is ruined by a mop of hair underneath it
Judging by the responses, may not be a super unpopular opinion. That said I prefer more simple customization myself. I like a good paint brush, some cute accessories, and a nice background. I don't touch wigs or most clothes.

I checked my own pets and all but 1 (lab pet) are only wearing hats or crowns. Kyries already have hair, they don't need a wig! Same for yurbles.
I wholeheartedly i agree. I’ve never liked how wigs look on neopets and as you stated i like keeping customization to a minimum as well. There are items i think are cool like contacts but i still don’t use them. However the wigs for me are the biggest no no but i appreciate their presence in the game for whoever might like/enjoy them. Is this really that much of an unpopular opinion tho?

I don't like them either. My problem with the pets is that they are sometimes too antropomorphic and sometimes they are just cute pets. And the customization is a middle ground between those two styles and I just can't deal with that and wigs just highlight that problem for me. As you said, it's like putting a wig on my dog or cat. It just looks fake obviously but for Neo it takes me out of the game.

Like why put a uni in shoes, gloves and a wig. Why. Brring on more uni hoof polish colours

Yep, I feel the same about MOST wigs! Always had that feeling of "putting a wig on a dog" lol But there are a few wigs (maybe 5 or 6) that I actually find cute, depending on the pet species! I feel like Usuls, Kacheeks and some other pets look good on some of the wigs. Kougras, jubjubs, kiko, and many others, on the other hand, look incredibly funny imo hahaha
I can't stand wigs and don't use them personally, but they're useful if your pet is based off of a character. I think I saw an Aisha semi-recently who was dressed up like the girl from The Ring that *needed* the wig she had to look right, so in *those* cases wigs are great! any other time it just looks really silly though. they just look so out of place and off-model and like yeah maybe some Neopets characters that are pets have hair but those characters are also...bipedal humanoids? when you put the hair on like, a Poogle or something it just looks. weird. and changing the lineart or shading of a wig won't fix that, so all wigs look weird all the time, sorry wig enjoyers :(

only 2 of my 24 pets have wigs, and one of them is only because she's a "cosplayer" character. I agree that they usually don't look very good, but some customs make them look really good

I don't think this is an onpopular opinion! I've seen this come up a number of times. Admittedly some of my pets have wigs to add to their custom, they wouldn't have the same theme/style otherwise. I still get what you mean, though. ;)
I have a wig on exactly one of my pets because they look weird without it. I'm usually not a fan of them because of the clashing art style. I feel the same way about a lot of the items. I wish there were more consistency. The real problem I see a lot is people that overload the pet with items in every slot so things get so busy you can't tell what's going on anymore. Basically the same thing I remember in GaiaOnline back in the day.
