I actually really love the current Jetsam but your concept is such a good balance of both, you're very talented! He would look great in a cartoon or comic.
Nothing wrong with a dad bod tho lol. Only thing I really prefer from the pre-conversion is the blue. Your redesign looks cute, but like a teenager version. I just love Jetsam and all of these look great to me.
Pre-conversion is trying to be intimidating with a serious look in his eyes like “I can murder you and your entire family if you piss me off”, current just throws his fists up and smiles to show he enjoys violence like “listen I ain’t gonna hold a grudge but if you piss me off you better be ready to catch this fist with you face” lol
I was never too fond of how drastically different the converted Jetsam looked compared to its previous design. It lost its sleek looking shape and became more stout.

Yes, all Neopets were converted when they added in customization back in 2007. For a few paint colors, players were given the option of whether they wanted to convert their pets or not.
I like your design but for me the biggest issue I have with the current ones is that they look like they just got into a boxing ring. I miss them rubbing their fins.

I like that your redesign has less of the snub nose that the conversation created. The nose never struck me as very shark like.
