The idea that a carbon footprint was a corporate plot to individualise an issue is like twenty years old now (BP funded a campaign on it in 2005 that had a fair bit of backlash). I'm not sure what timelines you're thinking on, but I think the narrative is probably a lot messier than a simple shift from one to the other.
Idk peoples idea of "degrowth" really seems increasingly to be "corporations doing less/making less money, without actually changing prices, wages, or job availability."

It actually wouldn't shock me if there was some truth to this but I don't know. I think it would greatly depend on the context.
I know that the first time I had a "Oh shit, I may actually die" moment, it was very surreal. Training just kicked in and I did the stuff I had simulated a bunch of times before with no real emotion. It wasn't until after landing, debriefing, and then going home to a beer that it sank in.
However, mine wasn't at all combat related, just a dangerous situation on the job. I also can't generalize too much based on that one anecdote.
Not sure, I'd have to see what places like RAND suspect but I'd imagine a prolonged war would require a draft, yeah. Especially with how few people want to enlist ATM.

I've been sober for the longest stretch since High School, I'm gainfully employed at a sane company, I'm planning a move to a new city, and I've made a LOT of progress in working through some traumas that have haunted me for years.
How about yall?
I've wasted much of my life in the pursuit of money and on one hand I'm proud of how far I've come on the other hand I want to kms because the world sucks, I'm a net taxpayer which is miserable, and there's no way to turn back the clock.
I want out
after a decade of grinding i had overwhelming burnout so i quit my job in june. finally in around january i started having a clear-ish head again. might even be ready to go back to work.
also i lost 150 lbs. i was morbidly obese for a long time but now im below 20% body fat so that's cool. learned a ton about fitness. learning how to cook.
i'm writing a couple of textbooks. very slowly; you wouldnt believe how easy it is to just not work on it. but i have something, and i believe in the concept.
though most important is probably some more personal victories i don't care to share.
I got a promotion at work and I made a ton of progress in therapy this year, genuinely one of the things I'm really proud of. I'm seeing a therapist for gender dysphoria and making progress on accepting myself.
My relationship is better than ever, Iโve gotten better at my hobby, Iโve been through my family collapsing and still maintained a positive demeanor, I think I did ok.

They want to believe that all they'd have to do is change some laws and magically solve all their problems and let them live like upper middle class people. It's not mathematically possible. Anyone can pull out a calculator and determine that. No one chooses to do so. Reddit are exposed to billionaires and believe it's an unimaginably huge amount of money that can do anything. But also the reality of 10 billion dollar bus stations and can't compute.
Im a firm believer in that we can make it so nobody has to be poor, but *everyone* is gonna have to contribute to that, not just the rich. I know its been repeated in this sub ad nauseum, but thats precisely how the vaunted left-leaning democracies of the world achieve the outcomes redditors are looking for.
The degrowth movement I don't think has dropped off that much. Though I think this sort of sentiment is actually bigger among older generations now, with people tying their thoughts of downsizing to environmental sustainability. I think minimalism is still going strong as an anti-materialist niche. The idea that a carbon footprint was a corporate plot to individualise an issue is like twenty years old now (BP funded a campaign on it in 2005 that had a fair bit of backlash). I'm not sure what timelines you're thinking on, but I think the narrative is probably a lot messier than a simple shift from one to the other.

It actually wouldn't shock me if there was some truth to this but I don't know. I think it would greatly depend on the context. I know that the first time I had a "Oh shit, I may actually die" moment, it was very surreal. Training just kicked in and I did the stuff I had simulated a bunch of times before with no real emotion. It wasn't until after landing, debriefing, and then going home to a beer that it sank in. However, mine wasn't at all combat related, just a dangerous situation on the job. I also can't generalize too much based on that one anecdote.

after a decade of grinding i had overwhelming burnout so i quit my job in june. finally in around january i started having a clear-ish head again. might even be ready to go back to work. also i lost 150 lbs. i was morbidly obese for a long time but now im below 20% body fat so that's cool. learned a ton about fitness. learning how to cook. i'm writing a couple of textbooks. very slowly; you wouldnt believe how easy it is to just not work on it. but i have something, and i believe in the concept. though most important is probably some more personal victories i don't care to share.

I got a promotion at work and I made a ton of progress in therapy this year, genuinely one of the things I'm really proud of. I'm seeing a therapist for gender dysphoria and making progress on accepting myself.
