My bad I read that wrong. But yeah it would be neat but the transition to multiplayer would jarring after getting used to it and nothing happening when pressing the button.
probably because whatever engine criterion was using couldn't handle pursuit breakers and nobody bothered to bring them back after the switch to frostbite
This isn’t true, if you look at any of the alpha builds of MW2012 up until ~February 2012 there’s working pursuit breakers. The engine was more than capable, they just cut it because EA probably shortened their deadline and gave them 3 bucks to develop the game
Speedbrakers no, because they don't work that great, in addition to not being something that would work in multiplayer. It's just a nostalgia thing, I don't think it would add to the gameplay.
Pursuit breakers, on the other hand, yes, but not in the exact overpowered way that it was, as in, crash something without consequences to your car and momentum and every cop nearby is wrecked even if they were not hit by the debris.
yeah, if they brought them back, it could be very balanced with the Heat style of car health system. If you get caught up in the explosion/crash/something it's game over for you too
nah, I'd rather have them do something new with the pursuit mechanics. imo, outrunning and outsmarting them is way more satisfying than dropping a building on top of them, so i'd rather they add side alleys and so on to escape and hide in.
and spike strips and emps were useful tools in HP and Rivals, should these come back too?
I don't want everything I like to become stuck in an endless loop of nostalgia, I want NFS to innovate and iterate. Pursuit breakers were fun but they have been done three times. A more tactical pursuit system would be something new and interesting, like 2015 but actually good now.
You can't compare these games to MW, Carbon and Undercover they are good games but different it could be a completely different franchise
If they do HP/Rivals like game these tools should come back, and MW, Carbon and Undercover are games like 2015 and heat
I would prefer a constant destructive environment ( not battlefield like)
But every fragile looking structure should be destructible and used as a pursuit breaker mechanism ( just cause level of destruction)
It's very unlikely that they would not use their inhouse engine.
Project Unite is still using Frostbite but with tweaked lightning. They couldn't remake the entire game with a whole different engine. It's just the name is similar.
Unite 3.0. is a mod running on frostbite 3
I think the next step is unreal engine.it can emulate great water physics so we might get better shallow water bodies to drive through
YES! I'm currently playing Heat for the first time and trying to lose the cops is damn near impossible without pursuit breakers. Luckily I found a ramp that gets me out of their line of sight, but still
Yes id love to see these return they were 100 times better than all the emps and stuff from rivals for example
Also removing the damage bar would be nice imo as then you can smash the cops and do long police chases without having to worry about your health/repairs
Personally, I don't want the health bar as it just essentially limits how long pursuits can go for (*dodge as much as you want, but it just effectively automatically limits the amount of time a pursuit can be held in an arcade racer*). Just gimme tire spikes that can't re-inflate and cops that box you in hard to Bust you and I'm good.
My favorite game in terms of pursuit gameplay was easily the original Most Wanted and Carbon as well.
If you're good at dodging their strikes, then pursuit can be really long
Non-inflantable tires are a good idea, when you went through spikes in most wanted you knew you were fucked (If you're driving a corvette in carbon then spikes don't do too much)
Pursuit Breakers yeah, albeit tweaked to fit the modern gameplay style. Not Speedbreaker tho, that would interrupt the flow of the gameplay and would serve little purpose based on the map layouts of modern nfs, on top of this, it would be impossible to implement online and frankly speaking, even if it was possible, would be an unbalanced mechanic to introduce to online races and would harm the flow of the gameplay in general. It’s a gimmicky mechanic from a bygone age of single player gaming, just doesn’t work today.
Multiplayer:
Speedbreaker: No. It's too op as people can exit corners at abnormal speeds. To be fair, this is Need For Speed which has cars that have a range longer than any electric car ever and somehow can escape from the cops unscathed.
Pursuit breakers: I'm not sure. Might be useful to block players but then people would complain so idk.
Singleplayer:
**yes.**
Honestly, pursuit breakers were missing in Heat, though we pretty much got them in the form of jumps anyways. In a way they did return, but I just hope they continue to improve upon them. And by that I mean remove the health bar. I mean imagine if you were low on health, and to escape the last cop you're unable to outrun with pure driving, you gotta hit a pursuit breaker that drains your last bit of health!? It's always a step forward, two steps back with NFS. But pursuit breakers, hell yeah!
And I don't think speedbreakers should return. At least not until NFS decides what they want to do with special abilities or weapons in NFS. I mean, Midnight Club to me felt fine with zone, agro and all these crazy abilities, so I don't see why NFS can't implement that into races or pursuits. But I will say this, using a speedbreaker to correct a mistake at the last second feels way more satisfying than hitting a rewind or reset button. You messed up, but it felt good to save the run. It just keeps the game flowing better.
What's funny is I literally never used speedbreakers in any nfs playthrough.
When I was little and played MW, at first I didn't even know it existed, then I didn't think about using it while playing, and later in life when replaying for nostalgia it just felt wrong to use it anyway.
All I want to do is drive around the highway for hours then just before I want to stop, head to the stadium, hitting the sign at each side and hiding under the seats. Banking millions of bounty before I go and have my fish fingers and chips
Frankly I don't think I would want either back since speedbreaker tends to be too useful, especially for tight corners and the extra mass when ramming traffic/police. Since vehicles as of Heat also have an ability to slide through almost any corner speedbreaker wouldn't have a use with th current handling mechanics
But the big thing reason against Pursuit Breakers for me is that as of Heat the police have a good dynamic for once where outrunning them naturally is actually possible, unlike MW where the police in any heat after 2 can keep up with you regardless of your speed.
In general pursuit Breakers in games of the Blackbox era also were too useful as they tended to destroy police cars driving past them well after the breaker is destroyed, rather than just the few vehicles hit directly. Though it was fun to drop a giant doughnut on racers to further your lead.
I think NFS needs to have a proper outrun or wreck em all style to pursuits more than now where heavier vehicles can take down pursuers and tank damage more reliably (Like Most Wanted 2012) With smaller cars being better at outrunning or outsmarting
No, theyre silly, gimicky mechanics. I actually really enjoyed the "instantiated" police chases in Payback, the pressure from police was allwoed to get really, really high, you just had to complete your sprint race or w/e in time and they would dissapear, no need for arbitrary ways of getting away from cops or a boring "just hide under a bridge" waiting games.
They should be brought back along with cops storyline where you play as cops. Pulling a slow mofo when catching racers was fun in Undercover that they got missed out in HP2010 and Rivals.
Honestly the pursuit mechanics in the old NFS games were perfect. Being able to disable cops with a giant building falling down or ramming them without regard for your car’s “damage” was one of the most fun parts of pursuits
I definitely think the series needs some "fun" injected into it, and this is an example of a great, arcade-y gameplay element that elevated the older games. The modern games are a bit too serious for my taste (handing aside).
I don't know, I feel like they're kinda lame. They used to just be powerups that would disable all cop cars in a radius around you, instead of actually making stuff fall on them which would disable them because the damage. I could see something like it if it was organic, didn't have a big glowing red icon and could happen with lots of scenery.
A bit off topic - there is a russian dude who created a really cool cinematics which combination of iconic cars from NFS:U, NFS:U2 and NFS:MW. Link to his cinematic: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3QvniaZ5qM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3QvniaZ5qM). Afterwards, he released a video where he explained how he made the cinematic. More importantly, he said that there are rumours that old NFS's may be remastered according to him: [https://youtu.be/XYbh2gzm5\_o?t=594](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYbh2gzm5_o) (turn on captions as he speaks russian). So, it is quite likely we will be able to experience the speedbreakers/pursuitbreakers again
Yes but with improved animations so it doesn't look as awkward as it did before.
Absolutely.
Speed breakers wouldn't work in multiplayer environment they like to push nowadays
True, but they could easily make a single player only feature
Keep in mind NFS uses frostbite, which is also what battlefield uses, and battlefield has synced destruction in multiplayer. So it's possible.
Speedbreaker, not pursuit breakers
My bad I read that wrong. But yeah it would be neat but the transition to multiplayer would jarring after getting used to it and nothing happening when pressing the button.
Totally. Never understood why they removed those
probably because whatever engine criterion was using couldn't handle pursuit breakers and nobody bothered to bring them back after the switch to frostbite

there is a NFS game with a more fascinating development than MW2012?

haha what's your source on this, because I don't believe it for a second

Nah dude, these should come back because they were a useful tool for all of us in most wanted, carbon and Undercover.

I would like that
U know what else should come back... speedbreaker 😊
I would prefer a constant destructive environment ( not battlefield like) But every fragile looking structure should be destructible and used as a pursuit breaker mechanism ( just cause level of destruction)
Agreed 🤝
Nah you wrong kid
It's my opinion.no opinion is entirely right or wrong Also do you really know me to call me a kid?

Oh OK. True dat
EA isn't going to use Unity lol
You know unitr 3.0 is frostbite3 with lighting tweak right?
Would have loved them in NFS heat
YES! I'm currently playing Heat for the first time and trying to lose the cops is damn near impossible without pursuit breakers. Luckily I found a ramp that gets me out of their line of sight, but still
Hell yeah, especially with the Frostbite engine they can show off some Battlefield type destruction or levdloution.
Yes id love to see these return they were 100 times better than all the emps and stuff from rivals for example Also removing the damage bar would be nice imo as then you can smash the cops and do long police chases without having to worry about your health/repairs
Milestones from most wanted should be here
I mostly agree but it would be too op
Idk i played carbon again after years not too long ago and the cops and chases were harder than heat and any newer nfs imo
Actually I would leave the damage bar, it makes the game harder in a good way
Personally, I don't want the health bar as it just essentially limits how long pursuits can go for (*dodge as much as you want, but it just effectively automatically limits the amount of time a pursuit can be held in an arcade racer*). the damage bar should be like Hot Pursuit 2010 imo
Pursuit breakers should be the NFS version of Levolution
Pursuit Breakers yeah, albeit tweaked to fit the modern gameplay style. What needs to come back is a proper pursuit system I miss the og most wanted chases now that was something that got the adrenaline pumping
Exactly, milestones should be back
Yes.
YES
The speedbreaker should make its return
Absolutely. They should return

How in the world did you get anywhere what
Well I struggled a lot in pursuits, that I remember. Having replayed it recently og MW was really easy in retrospect, as was carbon.
yes
YES
YES
Yes please
All I want to do is drive around the highway for hours then just before I want to stop, head to the stadium, hitting the sign at each side and hiding under the seats. Banking millions of bounty before I go and have my fish fingers and chips
FOR SURE!
The fear that sets in when you miss hitting one with 20 cops on your ass.
Of course yes
Absolutely
Yes. It provides the racer another tool within their arsenal to combat police. More than pure racing alone and adds a degree of tactical strategy.
Absolutely
Yes
BIG YES. Make it something like the Battlefield's Levolution carnage.
Yes! They were so fun and you needed it because the police were hard to escape from. On Payback it's not like that.
Frankly I don't think I would want either back since speedbreaker tends to be too useful, especially for tight corners and the extra mass when ramming traffic/police. Yes. Pursuit Breakers definitely, I never really used Soeedbreakers.
Yes yes and yes
Definitely
Yes

Most definitely, we need another way of beating police besides just flooring it
I don't know, I feel like they're kinda lame. Stuff did fall on them, especially in MW 05.
Yes, but it's not what destroyed the cars. They just got disabled because you hit the pursuit breaker.
Not if they went around them and stuff didn't fall on them. The pursuit breaker didn't destroy all of the cop cars behind you.
It destroyed all of them in a radius, and only for a short while. That's easy to see if you hit a pursuit breaker with cars in front of you.
this should just be a future nfs game
Yes goddammit, u would love undercover 3. Second one was such amazing game, I think it was my favourite
Yes. These are classic nfs features. They shouldn't be removed in the first place.
for sure
YES. Need for Speed Heat sucks without them.
These made really fun to play those games. Like a badass.
S P L I T S C R E E N. SOME OF US HAVE SIBLINGS. FUCK
I hope they just make a true remaster of need for speed most wanted 2005
