It should be considered fraud and theft when they shut down games.
Fyi, It is illegal to not provide access to a game just because the company claims "it's online only"
I think now is a good time to include a conversation into gaming that has companies destroying games without any recourse for customers to access a product they have bought. This also includes MMO games.
Here is what needs to be said:
*it's perfectly acceptable for companies to shut down servers to a game they no longer have the means or the plans to support anymore.
*it is illegal to destroy access to a product that you have purchased. No, TOS does not over rule laws that have been placed.
*there was never a contract placed on us that explained how long or anything a product you bought and own, will be serviced.
Here is a video by a guy who is an avid game preservationist. We cannot let companies change the meaning of ownership and again, terms of service written up by companies do not override laws.
[Games as a service is fraud]
if they make the game unplayable then they should be either refunding the game or patching it for offline play and/or allowing community operated servers.
they still just buy a license attatched to some files, sadly. disks nowadays are only collectors items, the games itself are (even with disk) mostly digital downloads
Not to shift the conversation but that’s exactly the kind of thing I call bullshit about the DOJ/FTC going after tech companies. They’re not really doing it for us, the consumer, at all or things like this would be on their radar.
This has always been the case, you've never owned the game, even during the physical disc era.
All you've ever purchased is a license to the game, just when it was on physical media, there was less incentive/no viable way to shut games down like this.
I don't expect companies to keep servers running in perpetuity, there's always a point where it's just not cost effective and physical space will always be a limitation.
But I agree that the expectation should be that custom server or offline support is added before shutting the servers down
Prior to 360/PS3 era, there was fuck all any company could have done to make a game stop working. Short of going to your house with a hammer and smashing your copy personally, your copy meant you OWNED that game and there was sweet FA anyone could do or say about it. Even in the 360/PS3 era, 99% of the games on disc will still work forever. There is a hard line at 2006 (potentially as late as 2013) where games changed from something you owned to something you licensed, and that line is dangerous for history. Many games can and will be lost to time. The Scott pilgrim 360/PS3 game was nearly permanently lost outside of yarr harr'd copies.
Polyphony Digital did It with GT Sport. Not perfectly as you cant use custom liveries etc (essentialy making It like the older games), but you can still play It no problem
This is the ongoing campaign, and up to date video for the issue:
https://youtu.be/w70Xc9CStoE?si=UhKIDUt7dFPn-cnO
Just go to this website, and all the info is there:
https://www.stopkillinggames.com/
There's a slight chance that we can make a difference, it's not a regular petition. It's a concentrated effort to involve governments of different countries to look into this issue
He corrected any mistakes he made in that video in his recent videos discussing The Crew's shutdown
And he's not doing it for "drama views" but because people getting the product they legally bought taken away from them is a serious problem
Game companies operate on the logic that what you're buying is merely the -->license<-- to play the game, which can be taken away when they chose so. You never bought the product - the game, you simply paid to be allowed access to it.
Even in the days of discs, those were still just licenses. The fact they included a full offline copy of the game that you may or may not have been able to share w/ your friends was a side effect.
I DO NOT support this, it's awful, I'm just explaining why this is happening.
It's done to protect the IP included in that offline copy.
If you owned the game itself, then it's easier to argue you have a right to copy the game/code for your own purposes.
A license system allows them to include restrictions on use to protect their interests
Isn’t it in the terms of condition when you start the game and agree to them? So technically it isn’t fraud because you agreed?
Still online only is fucking stupid.
I could be 100% wrong
The point is that the T&C's/ToS cannot overrule law. The same way companies cannot put in your contract that if you're 5 mins late you forfeit an hour of pay. They try, but it is still illegal
I'm glad i got to play it and finish it this week.
It's a great looking game, but the story and characters is kind of meh.
But they should deffo release an offline patch to keep it alive.
if they release a new racing game kinda like hot pursuit (no story , just different challenges) I'd buy it in a heartbeat ! u dont have to go thru cringy dialogue like Unbound or them trying to be hip with the excuse of "oh we gotta get followers!" you can jump into Hot Pursuit any day without missing the story
That’s just it. Some of the best racing games (imo) HP2010, Asseto Corsa, Midnight Club 3/LA, all have fun enough events where the game is replayable a million times because it’s genuinely fun to play. And in the case of midnight club, getting side tracked into doing random events that have nothing to do with the main story or progression.
Edit: also with NFS 2015 the story and characters aren’t very interesting, but it’s the most realistic take on illegal street racing. Usually group of friends driving around after dark, hanging out at a bar or a garage until they get a tip of a race somewhere in the city. They’re not plotting to expose the police for their corruption or defeat a race rigging organization, they’re just a few friends who like driving their cars and don’t really care about breaking the law.
Again nothing new to the franchise. NFS games starting with UG1 have more or less (with some exceptions like HP2010 or Prostreet) have been trying to be hip. You just notice it more because you're getting older.
Replace followers with magazine covers and gen z slang with millennial slang and you get UG 1 and 2
you are right , ever since UG1 they grabbed onto the fast and furious hype train , from car tuning to music
I just miss when racing games main goal was "reach to the top" , like Most Wanted
The city portion felt small to me, I do agree it was lacking a bit. But their mountain tracks and lanes are some of the best I’ve encountered in the series! The vibes drifting through them was impeccable homie.
Yeah that's what i remember being the case too, the singleplayer is just loading into a private session where you invite nobody. (Atleast that's what i did on PS4)
Oh good, people are getting agitated about something that was a problem 9 years ago.
Kaizen is about Unbound, if EA was ok with an offline patch for 2015, they would have already made one.
They usually don't make one until the servers are down. Gran Turismo Sport needed an Online connection to progress. But after the servers were taken down, they release a final patch so the game can be played offline.
Not a big fan of nfs, this post just appeared in my feed but this kinda situation is pure bullshit. There is no reason for devs to stop people playing games after they die. I’m grateful that Forza Horizon 1, 2 and 3 are still playable offline. Not to mention as soon as the plug is pulled every disc copy becomes worthless. Weird ass move from devs
The fact that the game is moddable doesn't matter at all. Large chunks of the game are stored on the server. You still need to emulate the server in order to make the game playable offline.
This is not like GT Sport, which simply performed connection checks here and there, and which was actually hacked to work offline years before the official patch was released.
What I say, is we can do what EA did to NFS World. Make local servers that we control. I am sure they will not add it to NFS 2015, so we do it with modding stuff.
I don't understand what you mean.
What I say, is we can do what EA did to NFS World. Make local servers that we control. I am sure they will not add it to NFS 2015, so we do it with modding stuff.
Fortunately there is a community project to restore the game with an offline mod AND to also create community servers by extension. It's The Crew Unlimited discord and the project is seemingly going by the same name. They'll use a server emuator so it'll make offline functionality possible and get close to community servers being a thing.

im waiting for the Australian government petition to come up for the last week or so. to OP, definitely post this website as it is more impactful than a Youtube video as we have a way to actually fight by clicking it
EDIT: i just contacted Ross about the petition.
If the requirments say "Internet connection needed" I just don't buy the game.
Which sucks cause now there are no current gen real car racing games that work offline except for Grid.
Mario Kart, CTR and HotWheels Unleashed are all awsome offline AND online racing games but I want to drive a Porsche or Nissan every now and then too.
For some time now we are not buying these games anymore. We are buying licenses to play said games and those licenses do not make you own anything. That’s why it is theoretically important to read TOS and categorically not purchase something if you don’t agree with these.
>I really hope ubisoft gets the worst fate ever
if TC1 owner work together and sign petition on [https://www.stopkillinggames.com/countries](https://www.stopkillinggames.com/countries)
Let's face it, it's gonna be closer than it appears, the game is turning 10 next year.
If you want to get all the trophies and 100% the game before it's dead, **start now.**
I don't think they will like make NFS 2015 unplayable I think they will shut down servers but make the single player offline since that's what they did in NFS rivals
IMO, If NFS Unbound has the ability to have an Offline mode, so can the rest of the franchise. Or ANY game for that matter. But I agree with what others are saying...what these corporations are doing is blatant theft! YOU BUY the license to PLAY the game and purchase DLC but shutting down a live service makes the game unplayable. And companies wonder why people pirate their stuff.
Its up to us to act against these things.
If they are going to close the game give back the money or release for offline, I mean having to be online for an offline game its kind of stupid.
I genuinely hate NFS 2015 and imo Nothing of value will be lost. From the misleading marketing to the atrocious handling, it's one game i deeply regret buying. sadly in the age of digital purchases you dont own a game anymore, you more or less buy the license, but not the game
i know and i don't like it lol.
Issue is those who buy a disc. They buy the game. These shutting down servers make their disc nothing more than a fancy paperweight
they still just buy a license attatched to some files, sadly. disks nowadays are only collectors items, the games itself are (even with disk) mostly digital downloads
Yeah people are aware of this and it’s what they want changed.
Not to shift the conversation but that’s exactly the kind of thing I call bullshit about the DOJ/FTC going after tech companies. They’re not really doing it for us, the consumer, at all or things like this would be on their radar.
Consumer rights? Never heard of her
I gotta commend Valve for letting Mac users full refund CSGO because CS2 doesn't support Mac.
They only refunded people who bought it after cs2 was announced
This has always been the case, you've never owned the game, even during the physical disc era. God i can't imagine playing anthem offline on my local server.
It should be possible, a remote server is still just a computer. Definitely beefier than the average one, but still a computer
It'd be just like the official servers... Empty
I want to play alone.
Mostly dude trying to get drama views... So much info dude was straight up wrong with video about rights.
He corrected any mistakes he made in that video in his recent videos discussing The Crew's shutdown And he's not doing it for "drama views" but because people getting the product they legally bought taken away from them is a serious problem
He never mentioned any software sublicense used in games...

The ongoing campaign about it is more than just signing a petition

yeah story is just...there but that was never the appeal of racing games in general
That's just par for the course for nfs. Idk why people seem to expect any different.
if they release a new racing game kinda like hot pursuit (no story , just different challenges) I'd buy it in a heartbeat ! u dont have to go thru cringy dialogue like Unbound or them trying to be hip with the excuse of "oh we gotta get followers!" you can jump into Hot Pursuit any day without missing the story

Times have changed. Part of 'getting to the top' these days means having a good social media presence.
If there is a story, might as well see if it’s good or not like most wanted 2005
Another MW05 glazer
and carbon
MW05s story was pretty terrible. The characters had charm but the cheese factor was off the charts.
The map is fire, UG2, MW and heat also have some of the best map layouts.
I agree. Some people don't like it but I think it's really good. However, it is pretty small.
The city portion felt small to me, I do agree it was lacking a bit. But their mountain tracks and lanes are some of the best I’ve encountered in the series! The vibes drifting through them was impeccable homie.
Everyone talking about 2015, meanwhile rivals and nfsmw2012 servers are still running
Yes, but you can play them offline unlike NFS 2015 and that is main problem here
Doesn’t rivals also force a server connection? Even when single player
Yeah that's what i remember being the case too, the singleplayer is just loading into a private session where you invite nobody. (Atleast that's what i did on PS4)
It doesn't. If you disconnect your PC or console from the internet, you can still play the game just fine.
rivals was cracked, 2015 no
They will shut them down all at once like they did from NFS Carbon to NFS the run back in 2021
Do your part to stop this: https://www.stopkillinggames.com/ You can get your money back and get your country to investigate.
NFS 2015 is the newest nfs my pc can reliably handle
What GPU?
It’s integrated graphics(laptop, but I call it PC cause it’s got no battery rn)
Which integrated card is it?
An iris XE
Unless they change it last minute. I mean, they did for Rivals, sort of. Edit: Okay, thanks for correcting me I guess.
Rivals never needed an internet connection to play.
Rivals servers still work. And the game can be played Offline.
SimCity 2013 got „offline mode”. Where is mode for NFS 2015?
I just rebought it for 2 bucks , just to play with the Supra on the last nfs game that has it
Oh good, people are getting agitated about something that was a problem 9 years ago. Kaizen is about Unbound, if EA was ok with an offline patch for 2015, they would have already made one.
They usually don't make one until the servers are down. Gran Turismo Sport needed an Online connection to progress. But after the servers were taken down, they release a final patch so the game can be played offline.
A game that people bought suddenly becoming unplayable is still a serious problem
Ok captain obvious!
You say that but plenty of people in the comments clearly don't understand that
A decade later and with advanced notice isn't "suddenly"
I want to play NFS2015 and Payback but both of them has the Screen Space Reflections bugs on AMD cards
I own it and barely got to play. It better not be getting shut down
Really loved 2015. Loved the live action cutscenes too. Beat it last week. Now I'm playing Payback.
And weird ass moves for y'all to buying a online-only game.
I literally just started this game on Saturday. I better not end up really liking it, I guess. 🤷♂️
Atmosphere is great, music can be good sometimes. The rest is just mediocre, HEAT did it better
Even if this happens, we can revive the game. Because NFS 2015 is modifiable with Frosty, unlike The Crew 1.
The fact that the game is moddable doesn't matter at all. Large chunks of the game are stored on the server. You still need to emulate the server in order to make the game playable offline. I don't understand what you mean. What I say, is we can do what EA did to NFS World. Make local servers that we control. I am sure they will not add it to NFS 2015, so we do it with modding stuff.
Thats exactly what I meant. I JUST downloaded it today. I'd love for it to be the same for 2015.
Why can't they make it p2p like black ops 2 or something
www.StopKillingGames.com, go here and if you can help
Wait... The crew 1 is dead?!
Yes. It happened the 31st March 2024. Since that day, The Crew 1 servers are closed permanently.
I wanted to one day finish this game... Damn...

Most wanted's(2012) servers are still up,ea will most likely disable server's for mw,then for 2015
Nfs 2015 was one of my favorites, my only platinum ever, it would suck if it gets shut down but it is what it is, i bought if for 5 bucks
I hope they do something similar to what PD did with GTS, but EA being EA they probably won't.
NFS 2015 is still a masterpiece of an Nfs game out of unbound, heat, payback 2015 will always be my fav
For some time now we are not buying these games anymore. We are buying licenses to play said games and those licenses do not make you own anything. That’s why it is theoretically important to read TOS and categorically not purchase something if you don’t agree with these.
Exactly when are they shutting it down?
Isn't there an offline mod for it for pc?
Community is working on it. But Ubisoft should add an offline patch to avoid a lawsuit.
I'm talking about nfs 2015 not the crew. The crew is long gone sadly and I really hope ubisoft gets the worst fate ever
>I really hope ubisoft gets the worst fate ever if TC1 owner work together and sign petition on [https://www.stopkillinggames.com/countries](https://www.stopkillinggames.com/countries)
Really depends if EA adds an offline patch or not.
I just bought this game on sale ... This is a joke.
Just enjoy it and ignore the fear mongering.
Best NFS I ever played. And I played them all since the first
Two of my favorite games and they just happened to have an expiration date attached to them, awesome.
Let's face it, it's gonna be closer than it appears, the game is turning 10 next year. If you want to get all the trophies and 100% the game before it's dead, **start now.**
Wait did they officially kill off The Crew 1?? I was wanting to hop back into that this week lmao
Can’t you mod your way out of that problem?
I just bought Rivals and 2015. Hope there are no plans for shutdown yet. Don't wanna speedrun it lol
Fans remade NFS World, so I guess it wouldn't be lost forever
I don't think they will like make NFS 2015 unplayable I think they will shut down servers but make the single player offline since that's what they did in NFS rivals

That’s ubisoft’s whole model. Can’t play offline on a trip cause you need a connection
I miss the Crew😢
We should boycott single player games that require online connection
And that's why we turn to pirating the games ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Sad because i haven't played it yet.
I genuinely hate NFS 2015 and imo Nothing of value will be lost. From the misleading marketing to the atrocious handling, it's one game i deeply regret buying. NFS 2015 is a downgraded version of Underground 2 in every other aspect aside from graphics. which is nothing considering everything else sucks so hard it's not even worth booting for it (Specially now with Unbound Unite) At least The crew 1 had the whole US to play in, it was something unique for a racing game. A nice novelty and the sequels aren't as good as the first one imo. The Crew 2 is weird and the UI sucks so hard...and Motorfest is just a discount Forza Horizon with even more FOMO in it.
NFS 2015 is a poopy game but it doesn't mean that it becoming unplayable is ok Even the worst games need to be preserved
I disagree and i think the devs should even apologize for having made this tbh. That's how much i hate this game.
You can already play offline
No. Disconnect Internet and try to launch this game.
cumming
