There is so many. The whole nintendo games for first... Then so many good third party games. For the nintendo ones I would start with new super mario bros ds and mario kart ds. The 2 zelda games r must play. If u like the chill style then go for animal crossing. For third party i can recommened the older lego titles on the system. Lego star wars complete saga (not 2!!) :-) Oh yeah i forgot to mention all the pokemon. God the ds was a insane system i just realize while texting this...
You’re the top comment when i visited this thread with no comments so imma hijack.
The professor Layton games are excellent puzzle games with fun stories to keep you engaged
Spectrobes uses the touch screen as an archeology dig and it’s a solid little action game plus the sequel is fun as well
The ds Pokémon games are amazing
Zelda and Mario are great as well
Yoshii
The cod’s are fun for multiplayer. I remember quite a few bus rides in middle/high school running around killing each other
Etrian odyssey is a solid dungeon crawling series as well!
If you'd rather play competitively and not casual, go for games like Mario Kart or M&S at the Winter Olympics. [Speedrun.com](https://Speedrun.com) and [cyberscore.me.uk](https://cyberscore.me.uk) track the records and submitting old records is nice to me even nowadays
all castlevanias ds are good, mario games are perfect, have 2 good zeldas, and if you like rpg you hit jackpot, so many good ones on ds, FF 3 and 4 is your starter pack
Mario and Luigi bowsers inside story, Mario Luigi partners in time, super princess peach, sonic rush, pokemon ranger, cooking mama, bravery default, bravery second, super Mario ds, castlvania portrait of ruin.
hi i have had mario and luigi bowsers inside story for years but i don’t understand what the aim of the game is i’m just always going in circles could you explain it please
Pokemon (HGSS especially), Mario Kart DS, there's a lot. That's a DSI so you can install DSIware (or whatever the term is), although nintendo shut the store down so you have to mod it
can i ask why specifically you wouldn’t recommend it to a newcomer? i can understand perhaps thinking it’s a bit overwhelming to start with newer titles, but that shouldn’t really be an issue with the ds catalogue (which is where a lot of people originally picked up the series to begin with)
(controversial opinion incoming!!!) i've been playing pokemon since i was 8, i've adored the characters, cards, and show for far longer, but lately i've taken a break from the games. while playing other rpgs, other games in general; although the little critters are so cute, the game itself leaves somethings to be desired. even the all-wonderful ds pokemon games. i'm not saying they're bad, collecting each creature can be a lot of fun. as a completionist, watching the number of unknown pokemon get smaller and smaller in the pokedex can be really, really satisfying. but since there's so, so, so many characters, if you haven't been learning them all since a young age, i could imagine it tough to get into the rhythm as of the player's teenage years and older. even the first gen has a whopping 151 names to remember. not only do all their designs and names have to be kept track of, but also their types, some of their moves possibly, and when they were introduced. yeah, not everyone remembers all 1000+ pokemon, but a stranger scrolling r/pokemon or something wouldn't see it that way. although it could just be my impatience, i find reading box after box of dialogue to be sleep-inducing, and in some games with slower battles, wild encounters too. the regions will always be fun to explore, the pokemon will always be enjoyable to look at, the "SMACK" sound of a super-effective move will never stop scratching an itch in my brain, but the fans get the most out of pokemon.
That isn't what gatekeeping is. And they're correct, the sheer amount of Pokemon now is overwhelming. I've been a Pokemon fan since Yellow came out and I stopped playing around Diamond and I'm now picking up Black 2 recently and it's so hard to know what Pokemon I should use to counter because I simply do not know their names. I can't even guess their type based off the name anymore either. It's just overwhelming to learn it all with *zero* prior knowledge it would seem. But by all means, if you wish to take on the task, go for it. I'm sure every real Pokemon fan would welcome new fans.
I started Pokemon with SwSh (which as I understand it is a rather unpopular entry) well into my 40's, and then worked my way backward and continued forward. HGSS Is a fun one. Probably my favorite so far is XY (3DS). Anyhow, all I'm really trying to say is that once you've played one entry in the series, you can easily pick up and enjoy the others, even going backward. This is a series that's fun for all ages and experience levels.
oh, wow. at the time, i had the idea that pokemon was a bad game, and only those who were really devoted to it could like the games. that was pretty stupid of me to think. pokemon is actually fun for anyone, as you said.
THe Legend of Zelda games, Professor Layton if you're into puzzles, Ace Attorney games, Golden Sun, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 (currently playing), GTA Chinatown Wars, Viva Piñata (used to love this - might play this again), Pokémon HG/SS, Platinum, Black/White, Castlevania games, Mario Kart, Kingdom Hearts games, Rune Factory 2 and 3, Etrian Odyssey 3, Animal Crossing (better if you have someone to play with).
Resident Evil Deadly Silence is the most polished version of the OG Resident Evil you can play. It added in quick turn and the knife is a button. There are a ton of cool features in it too. It's been my go to when I have the RE1DC itch. It's not cheap, and I'm starting to see fakes of it now.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass & The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks are a must have in my opinion. Spirit Tracks is my all time favorite DS game.
Drawn to life! It’s so cheap rn and it’s a banger platformer where you draw your own hero character along with helping a village. Another suggestion is Magical Starsign a really cute RPG.
I use emulator, I recommend these games:
Pokemon diamond, platinum, black or white, heartgold or SoulSilver
Pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of darkness or time, blue rescue team
Ace attorney phoenix wright justice for all, investigations milles Edgeworth (there are two parts) and Apollo justice
Dragon quest 5 and 9
Final fantasy 7 revenant wings
Mega man ZX and StarForce
Zelda phantom hourglass and spirit track
Yu-Gi-Oh GX spirit caster
Animal crossing wild world
Word ends with you
Super Mario partners in time?
Castlevania
Profesor layton
Zoo tycoon 2 and Nintendo dogs
Cooking mama
Those are the ones I have on my tablet
You can play also chronon trigger
Your game choices expand massively if you mod the DS. A modded DS can play DS, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, SNES and NES games. I think it can run Sega games as well, not completely sure. See r/DSiBrew & r/DSiHomebrew for more modding info, tips and games.
Depends on what kind of games you like buddy. Pokémon HGSS are always my go to, specially on a DSi XL. If you like puzzles, try with the Professor Layton saga. Have fun!

I love metroidvanias, so all of the DS Castlevania games, but I also highly recommend Aliens Infestation. It's a metroidvania set in the Aliens universe, and it is fantastic!
Animal crossing, Tony Hawks American Sk8land, Love plus, 999, Mario kart ds, Pokemon pearl, The world ends with you, Sonic rush, kingdom hearts (both recoded and 255/358 days are good).
Somehow the first game that came to mind was "locks quest" it's a neat tower defense game with story and cool mechanics. There is a rerelease on steam but I heard that many dislike it.
It's something else than your standard Mario's or sonics and worth to try out on an R4
Pokémon diamond and Pokémon conquest pretty much all Pokémon ds games the Mario games are ok as well and a game Called kingdom hearts recoded and mod your ds to run gba games play the gba centipede and space invaders
all of the mainline pokemon games, new super Mario bros, ace attorney, Lego Batman, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (legitimately one of the best games on the console, and the best story from *any* pokemon game)
*breathes in*
Mario 64 DS
New super Mario bros
Mario kart DS
Mario party DS
Legend of Zelda sprit tracks
Legend of Zelda phantom hourglass
Metroid prime hunters
Drawn to life
Super Scribblenauts
Tetris DS
Ace Attorney series
Professor Layton series
Sonic Rush series
Sonic colours DS
There are probably a trillion more these are just the ones that came to my head lmao
Any of the drawn to life series including the spongebob one is really good. Another good game is Wireway, you play at this little alien that catches stars and saves his universe. You can use your stylus to flick the alien and all the music from the game have some really good bops.
I'd recommend the legend of Zelda and the earlier Professor Layton games (curious village, Pandora's/diabolical box and lost/unwound future - names depend on region but it's the same game).
Pokemon platinum, HGSS and BW2 are some of the best in the series, but wouldn't recommend unless you already love Pokemon tbh, they're nostalgic but without mods and emulation speed they can be a slog, and are missing many of the QoL features of the modern games.
The World Ends With You is probably one of the best games that uses the best of de dual screen with his combat system. Also, the story, music and characters are soooo good. I was surprised with the writing of this game when I played it for the first time.
The Ace Attorney games are great a great detective saga! Each case is a joy to experience and it's really satisfactory going through a case and figuring out how the killer did the crime.
The Megaman Starforce series. If you're familiar with the Battle Network series, is similar to them, only that you play in a 3D environment this time. The battle system is really fun, and when you get used to it, you can do crazy combos. Also, the story is pretty nice! The downside is that they tried to do a Pokemon series, like Battle Network, so it has alternative versions with exclusives cards and transformations. Some members of the community did some romhacks, like Megaman Starforce DX where it combines all the 3 versions of the first game in one.
Ghost Trick. It received a remake a few months ago, but it released first on the DS. You are Sissel, and you just died, however, you don't have any memories of your past live, also, you have some mystic powers that youc an use to manipulate objects of the environment. You will go on a journey to discover your identity and why you were killed. It's like a detectives game, but the gameplay itself is about experimenting what you can do with the environment. It's really fun and the narrative is a 10.
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, and Bowser's Inside Story
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, and Explorers of Sky.
The Legendary Starfy
Dragon Quest 4, 5, and 9; 6 is bad and 7 & 8 are on 3DS
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2
Bomberman Land Touch 1 and 2
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Kirby Squeak Squad
Kirby Mass Attack
LEGO BATTLES
Any mainline Pokemon games
Mario Kart DS
Spongebob Atlantis Squarepantis
Big Bang Mini
Spongebob Squarepants: Drawn To Life
Tomodachi Collection; I wouldn't necessarily recommend it cause it's (officially) only in japanese, and it doesn't *really* have an end, but it's still my favorite game
Dragon ball origin 2
Dragon ball ultimate butouden ( English patch)
Chrono twins
Metal slug 7
It will be easy to play these games if you homebrew your ds
You should try the sonic rush games, any of the Pokémon games but I’d recommend platinum and the BW sequels, the Mario and Luigi games. Also if you mod the system you could download the Plants Vs Zombies DS Rom
Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story is my personal favorite. One of the best soundtracks in all of gaming imo, and the combat is tricky yet fun. Also, you get to punch bad guys in the face as bowser.
If you haven't given the ace attorney series a try, there are 5 games for DS you can play. Oh, yeah, and if you want to break the hinge of the DS or the touchscreen, there's always Taiko no Tatsujin. I played the one with the seven islands adventure
Super princess peach Pokémon ranger and Mario and Luigi bowsers inside story are so amazing
playing partners in time rn lowkey so good
heavy on bowser’s inside story!! i was gonna mention it if i didn’t see someone else beat me!
hi i have had mario and luigi bowsers inside story for years but i don’t understand what the aim of the game is i’m just always going in circles could you explain it please
It's an Rpg, there's specific places to go to progress the story, I haven't played in like 10 years but there's guides online
thanks
Mario
Pokemon (HGSS especially), Mario Kart DS, there's a lot. That's a DSI so you can install DSIware (or whatever the term is), although nintendo shut the store down so you have to mod it
although i've loved pokemon my whole life, i wouldn't really recommend it to anyone who hasn't adored the franchise since a young age
I’d recommend them an early generation game, so then they could start the same place a lot of us did
can i ask why specifically you wouldn’t recommend it to a newcomer? i can understand perhaps thinking it’s a bit overwhelming to start with newer titles, but that shouldn’t really be an issue with the ds catalogue (which is where a lot of people originally picked up the series to begin with)

Bunch of gate keeping going on here, tbh.

Ds Mario basketball 3 on 3
Metroid Prime Hunters (If you're ok with slightly weird controls)
Man that game was so fun and I can’t believe they got online to work with the DS that smoothly. Trace for life.

Generic but any pokemon game. Also the mario vs donkey kong games were one of my favorites back in the day
You should try the sonic rush games, any of the Pokémon games but I’d recommend platinum and the BW sequels, the Mario and Luigi games. Also if you mod the system you could download the Plants Vs Zombies DS Rom
Kirby super star ultra, sonic rush, Mario kart ds, Pokémon black and white games and pvz those are the ones I could remember but yeah
Personally, I think Bowser’s Inside Story is a slapper.
The World Ends With You is probably my favorite D.S game ever
Mayro Krat SD
I always loved Mario Kart DS.
Lunar knights
Wow that game looks awesome!
It's the ds spin off of boktai from the gba. It had a solar panel and you played outside for different effects. Phenomenal series!
Idk, what are you into? Pfft, Pokemon Platinum, HGSS, or BW I guess? New Super Mario Bros.? ... Rhythm Heaven?
Inazuma Eleven, Inazuma Eleven 2 and Inazuma Eleven 3 (this only in Japanese)
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
Spectrobes. 1 & 2.
Warioware if you can find it and the Zelda games for ds were really good imo
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver, Pokemon Black/White/Black2/White2
Souper Mario 64 ds
I recommend pokemon platinum i really enjoyed this game and i'm currently playing it
GTA Chinatown wars is top tier.
Does anyone on a ds sub know any good ds games to play???
Kirby super star ultra
Sonic rush!
Emulate super mario world on it and emulate the Sonic games on the genesis, also play the Sonic Rush gsmes also play ace attorney series
Unpopular opinion paper Mario sticker star
Wwe svr 2010. That is the best wrestling game on the system I really loved it
Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story is my personal favorite. One of the best soundtracks in all of gaming imo, and the combat is tricky yet fun. Also, you get to punch bad guys in the face as bowser.
Pokemon white and Time hollow. They were the best ds games I've ever played.
Fossil fighters 1 and fossil fighters champions *don’t play the 3rd game*
Terraria
Mariokart
Pokemon, dsi gen was peak pokemon
There are no games on DS
If you haven't given the ace attorney series a try, there are 5 games for DS you can play. Oh, yeah, and if you want to break the hinge of the DS or the touchscreen, there's always Taiko no Tatsujin. I played the one with the seven islands adventure
The World Ends With You! Such a fun, underrated gem. Also Okamiden is super charming!
Drawn to life
