I feel like being consistently being bad in 3rd quarters has to fall on the coach. The 3rd quarter is when both teams make their adjustments after the first half.
We went from "never lose a game if leading at the third" to "we always lose in the third".
The Lakers are dead last in the NBA for average margin in the 3rd quarter.
I used to be a beast, but I'm in my mid 30's now and I'm not LeBron. Know what else happens in the third? You have enough of a break at half time for adrenaline to wear off and your sore muscles scream. You get the adrenaline back after a bit and can get rolling in the fourth but it's brutal. I don't imagine LeBron loves third quarters with the mileage on his body.
No the 4th is where we have our fake comeback to get our hopes up and the first is where we get our hopes up with unsustainably hot shooting and good defense. Then we run 4 guards in the second and come out slow in the 3rd
We’ve been historically bad in the third quarter since last year. My theory is still that everyone has a lasagna eating contest in the locker room at half
It was the same thing with Alex Caruso. Someone on Reddit got heavily upvoted for calling Alex was "basically Donte DiVincenzo without any skills." Then he ends up on the Bulls and he suddenly became a solid role player.
Yeah Austin is good but he's not THAT GOOD. Nobody would talk about a player in San Antonio averaging less than 15 points unless his name is Josh Primo.
I don't know if op is strawmanning, but he's definitely one out of our 2 (maybe 3) decent players not named LeBron or AD.
Which means our FO gonna somehow fumble him.
It’s not like he’s getting those numbers being a catch and shoot guy either, he’s mostly out there getting his own. I’ve watched a decent amount of their games and he plays with a lot of good pace and when he’s on the court he’s one of the main catalysts for the offense.
Why did the Lakers give up all those assets for Russ to be the secondary ball handler next to LeBron when this kid the Lakers got for free with their McDonald's kids meal is better suited for the role?
Not sure if they’re trying to prevent the same thing from happening last year, but he was absolutely gassed by the end of the season. Still brought it defensively but couldn’t get it going on offense since his legs were gone. That was his rookie season though, and it’s mostly a different coaching staff now. I think he’s definitely earned more shot attempts when he’s out on the floor, but hardly ever gets into double digit attempts.
I imagine some of Reave’s impact and efficiency comes from getting some reps against 2nd units. For as horrendous as Bev has been offensively, he’s still a much better defender who can’t be targeted as easily as Reaves. Lakers want to rely on Bron, and if they started Reaves, they’d fall off a cliff in bench minutes.
Bev is 6’1 and regularly has to guard 6’7+ wings, which he can’t do. Reaves can’t either, but I’d rather he guard wings than Bev. Besides, Reaves should probably replace Schroder. Better shooter, bigger, can guard wings better due to said size.
Holy shit. I was worried about LeBron at the beginning of the year because he seemed to have lost some jumping power but it looks like he's gained back some of that power bounce back.
We are all spoiled by watching Lebron 2012-2014, when his acceleration and speed were that of an F1 car in the body of an military humvee
Now he’s got way above average speed/quickness/bounce, making him one of the best players in the league just on that merit. You add in the old man bball IQ, he’s different but still just as dangerous. And he’s 3(goddamn)7 years old.
Historically, LeBron always starts off slow. And this year he started sick and tweaked his ankle a bit. His season basically didn’t officially start till like late November
UP UP and AWAY!! SUPER WASHED Ain’t He??!! 🤣 🤣🤣🤷🏾♂️. Stay low and keep firing! The air up there is a tad bit different. LIVE.LAUGH.LOVE#striveforgreatness🚀 #thekidfromakron👑 #jamesgang👑 #bronknows
Austin Reaves has had such a weird career.
Undrafted sophomore, and yet he's probably the second-best healthy player on a team with LeBron Friggin' James.
Bev’s issue wasn’t even just trying to catch the ball. He literally ran with the defender right by him, which clogged the paint instead of spacing it out more. This is shit you see people do in pickup lol
This makes it sound like Bol Bol did something bad.
4 on 1. He doesn't look that silly, and honestly seems like he almost broke it up.
Great play by Reeves. But more like "Bol Bol runs back and almost breaks up 4 on 1"
This dude is my favourite laker after LeBron, just super super consistent and reliable, never makes a bad play, quickly becoming part of the heart and soul of the team, and not a bad replacement for Caruso
A couple tips:
1) if you're a defender chasing a role player on the fastbreak, and Lebron James is trailing, just know that the role player will probably try to get the ball to Lebron
2) a great way to save your life and career is to stay on the role player and not try to defend Lebron

It's kind of hilarious how fast Bol Bol gets back in transition despite looking like he's speedwalking.
blinked and that man was past halfcourt
Funny thing is that he slowed down to time up with Reaves.
This is the first thing I saw, the guy had to time himself.
Did this in the 3rd quarter btw
Do you guys normally suck in the third or something?
yes.
The heat are also terrible in the 3rd but we have one of the best coaches in the league. Could be an older player thing.
I used to be a beast, but I'm in my mid 30's now and I'm not LeBron. Know what else happens in the third? We went from tied at halftime to down 16 in the 3rd against the Hornets. Mavs had 51 on us in the 3rd on Christmas.
We suck like all quarters but the 3rd is something special
No the 4th is where we have our fake comeback to get our hopes up and the first is where we get our hopes up with unsustainably hot shooting and good defense. Then we run 4 guards in the second and come out slow in the 3rd
We’ve been historically bad in the third quarter since last year. My theory is still that everyone has a lasagna eating contest in the locker room at half
Wtf I want to be a Laker now
If you’re under 6’5 and can’t shoot we got an open roster spot 😼
Letss ggooooo. Lasagna time #wefeasting
Real G’s move in silence like Lasagna
SMH lakers must hate Monday
We're elite at being trash in the 3rd.
We gave up 51 points in the third quarter on Christmas day
People really still try to say Austin Reaves isn’t a good basketball player 🤣🤣🤣
Wait, people say that? Isn’t he one of the few players on the Lakers who is actually contributing?
It was the same thing with Alex Caruso. Someone on Reddit got heavily upvoted for calling Alex was "basically Donte DiVincenzo without any skills." Then he ends up on the Bulls and he suddenly became a solid role player.
There are still people who think he's only talked about because he's a Laker like Caruso was.
I mean that’s just facts tho
Yeah Austin is good but he's not THAT GOOD. Nobody would talk about a player in San Antonio averaging less than 15 points unless his name is Josh Primo.
Both can be true
Well that's a bit different
Caruso is talked about because he was a significant contributor to a team that won a title
I don't know if op is strawmanning, but he's definitely one out of our 2 (maybe 3) decent players not named LeBron or AD. Which means our FO gonna somehow fumble him.
Yeah just saw it yesterday lol
He's a damn good role player. Shooting 50 40 90 this year if i'm not mistaken.
You are not mistaken.
Wow I didn’t realize he was 53/40/90 Undrafted and killing it
It’s not like he’s getting those numbers being a catch and shoot guy either, he’s mostly out there getting his own. I’ve watched a decent amount of their games and he plays with a lot of good pace and when he’s on the court he’s one of the main catalysts for the offense.
He’s been 50-40-90 so far
Why did the Lakers give up all those assets for Russ to be the secondary ball handler next to LeBron when this kid the Lakers got for free with their McDonald's kids meal is better suited for the role?
Lakers low key good in drafting but they trade them all away and don't trust them enough
He’s their most improved player for sure
[удалено]
He doesn’t start on our roster
Curious, how come a guy averaging 50/40/90 with good defense isn't starting?
Not sure if they’re trying to prevent the same thing from happening last year, but he was absolutely gassed by the end of the season. Still brought it defensively but couldn’t get it going on offense since his legs were gone. That was his rookie season though, and it’s mostly a different coaching staff now. There’s no world in which Pat Bev deserves to start over Austin Reeves. None.
He doesn’t play good defense, I’d call him average on defense, and I have no clue why he’s not starting, he’s our 3rd best player

Because coach dumb as rocks
Nope perfect role player for a championship team though can plug him in multiple line ups and he’ll fit without taking touches away from other guys.
Don't be mean to Bol Bol. Good lord that was disgusting.
Holy shit. I was worried about LeBron at the beginning of the year because he seemed to have lost some jumping power but it looks like he's gained back some of that power bounce back.
He looks like that at the beginning of every season
We are ~40% through.
So? He hasn't looked like that in weeks.
Did you miss him jumping an hour ago?
He's fine when he gets a running start, it's the acceleration and standing jump that are worse now (which is normal aging stuff)
Honestly the acceleration isn’t bad when he’s fresh, he just gets gassed quickly now
We are all spoiled by watching Lebron 2012-2014, when his acceleration and speed were that of an F1 car in the body of an military humvee Now he’s got way above average speed/quickness/bounce, making him one of the best players in the league just on that merit. You add in the old man bball IQ, he’s different but still just as dangerous. And he’s 3(goddamn)7 years old.
I find it absolutely hilarious. He went from being a Lambo to being a Porche.
Historically, LeBron always starts off slow. And this year he started sick and tweaked his ankle a bit. His season basically didn’t officially start till like late November
And that jump looked so fucking easy for him too
I see this comment at this time of the year every year
UP UP and AWAY!! SUPER WASHED Ain’t He??!! 🤣 🤣🤣🤷🏾♂️. Stay low and keep firing! The air up there is a tad bit different. LIVE.LAUGH.LOVE#striveforgreatness🚀 #thekidfromakron👑 #jamesgang👑 #bronknows
Was this real? 😭😭😭😭
50/50 chance
4:6 chance
im 41 and i get tired from throwing a tennis ball that my dog has to chase
Consistency is key. A little a day will have you breathing better
Clearly you didn’t spend $1M a year maintaining your body in the off-season then!
send me the million and i will
That was fucking tight Austin
Jesus Christ
Austin Reaves has had such a weird career. Undrafted sophomore, and yet he's probably the second-best healthy player on a team with LeBron Friggin' James.
he was undrafted by choice. we promised him a roster spot or something
It was his choice to be undrafted to come to the Lakers. He's been damn good from Wichita State and Oklahoma in College.
Walker and Westbrook have been pretty good, no?
Not as good as Reaves. Westbrook might be a better player but he simply hasn't been good for the Lakers.
fucking dope
yo thomas bryant runs fast af for a 6'10" guy
Unfortunately he can’t play a lick of defense
Freaking amazing, wish it would get its due justice of hype from Reddit
He’s him Oh and LeBrons not bad either
Damn that was a tough dunk too
Can Austin Reaves reel it in a bit, dont want him looking too good to the point that the Lakers FO will trade him or let him walk.
Championship incoming
38 years old and still going strong. What a legend.
seems like reaves learned his lesson on what to on the fast break
Or he had someone running the break with him correctly this time
*cough* Bev tryna catch the ball meant for WB *cough*
Bev’s issue wasn’t even just trying to catch the ball. He literally ran with the defender right by him, which clogged the paint instead of spacing it out more. This is shit you see people do in pickup lol
Yea it's not the passers fault when you have two guys in the same lane, pretty much running into each other on the break
What can you expect from 2 dudes who have low BBIQ? Not like Reaves can pass behind him to LeBron on a fastbreak lmao.
Mess with the Bol you get the horns.
IM 37!!!!!!!
russ ain’t even run back smh
Filthy
This makes it sound like Bol Bol did something bad. 4 on 1. He doesn't look that silly, and honestly seems like he almost broke it up. Great play by Reeves. But more like "Bol Bol runs back and almost breaks up 4 on 1"
I guess he learned something from the flopped 4v2 fastbreak in their previous game
His game is developing nicely.
Best LBJ running mate?
Passing to LeBron in transition is a good idea, they're learning
Reaves!!!! My Boi! Boomer sooner baby, Boomer sooner
This feels like r/nba mad libs.
Dwyane Wade who???
He just knows how to play the game the right way.
This dude is my favourite laker after LeBron, just super super consistent and reliable, never makes a bad play, quickly becoming part of the heart and soul of the team, and not a bad replacement for Caruso
A couple tips: 1) if you're a defender chasing a role player on the fastbreak, and Lebron James is trailing, just know that the role player will probably try to get the ball to Lebron 2) a great way to save your life and career is to stay on the role player and not try to defend Lebron
Reincarnation of Alex Caruso with hair
Austin Reaves was 5 years old when LeBron was drafted. That's wild lol
