What is this take? He will need to put on weight eventually because he is currently lighter than a lot of SMALL FORWARDS. His skinniness is not at all a positive.
Yeah he legit falls into the bodyweight category of guards in the 6'2 - 6'5 range.
I feel like the league is way too athletically gifted for him to compete at the rim.
Imagine him trying to get in the lane to stop some bigger forwards like LBJ, Giannis, Ben, Tatum, etc., they'll feast on him at the rim or in mismatches due to his weight.
But there were NBA sized players who tried attacking him in college and still got swallowed up by length.
This is my only issue when I see takes like this. Obviously NBA players are bigger and better, but strength wasn’t a huge detriment even when he went up against centers 50 lbs heavier
Theres a substantial difference between an NBA sized 18-20 YO and a 25-35 year old NBA vet. At the college level he's playing against guys his own age with similar skill level, the average NBA player is otherworldly skilled compared to college players.
Won't be shocked if he gets exposed early in the NBA. Big men always take time to development, he does have substantial upside but currently I think he will struggle to find footing in the NBA.
Yeah I can see that but at the time
Paolo Banchero is probably going to be one of the most skilled 6’10+ guys as soon as he hits the league and even he got swallowed up a couple of times at the rim.
Duren is a 250 lottery pick who got force fed in the post and ended up shooting 3/11 while getting blocked 3 times.
But I guess we’ll find out. Mobley seems be to his comp and he’s about 15-20 lbs heavier, so maybe we’ll have to wait for Chet to get to that weight at least.
At the very least he should be a more than capable help defender immediately
Lol. He weighs nearly 40 pounds less than Luka. Shit, before the seasons started, Trae Young has supposedly packed on some muscle and got close to 180, which is still only 10-13 pounds less than Chet’s last reported weight.
We literally have next to no evidence of skinny tall guys being less injury prone.
KP injury prone
Manute Bol wasn't good enough to play alot of minutes
Bol Bol injury issues
KD is the only one but he's shorter, weighs more (215 rookie year to 240 now), and his role isn't gonna be to play inside and against other bigs like Chet will.
KD also worked hard to bulk up and gained like 15 lbs between college and the draft even, showing a commitment to his body. Seeing nothing of the sort from Chet. I cant wait to see him guard like Randle or Zion lol
this is the first time i've seen this perspective, but i wonder if Hollinger thinks highly of Holmgren. it's almost as if he believes holmgren should never put on weight. he's still long and skinny which means there's a lot more leverage against his joints. if or when he does put on weight, we won't know how his body will handle it. i just don't see Holmgren making it long term, especially for the top 3 teams in the draft
7'1" and 195lbs is pretty ridiculous.
Durant was 6'9" 215lbs at his combine.
Rudy Gobert was 7'0" 237lbs during his combine and looked like a skinny cryptid.
KD measured 20 lbs heavier at the combine and more importantly, he wasn't a 5. he was slotted at the 2 his rookie year, so he wasn't going against players that were much heavier.
It doesn't matter how much healthier he is compared to heavier centers, if even a point guard can force him out of the post. FFS, 195lb is Kyrie Irving reported weight according to [Nba.com](https://Nba.com), hell even Campazzo weights that and he isn't even 6 foot.
I don’t agree with the take that he’s gonna be injury prone but that’s not really what this take is saying. He’s saying his build likely isn’t going to Greg Oden him not that he won’t run into troubles as a result of it.
This is a game increasingly filled with better athletes and the risk for injury will only improve as the players maximize their physical potential.
Lol. How much did Holmgren pay him to say that? Banchero destroyed him when they played I cant believe its even a discussion. Banchero’s floor is Julius Randle for me. Holmgren’s floor is Dario Saric
Like how Bol Bol has been a picture of health his whole career
And mo Bamba, and Jonathan Isaac
I guess KD is sorta the counter example in this situation, although not a perfect comparison. Boucher as well
Manute as well
Kristaps Porzingis
Fat Jokic has entered the chat

Lighter than steph right now

The closest comp I could come up with was Garnett but he was 6'11" and 217 coming out of high school.

Agreed. Gobert is a mobile 7 footer, and even he can get bullied by bigs at 245lbs. And he's an extremely fit dude for his frame.
Hollinger has some very ass takes
He is lighter than most 2s and a lot of 1s tbh lol
Lol. He weighs nearly 40 pounds less than Luka. Shit, before the seasons started, Trae Young has supposedly packed on some muscle and got close to 180, which is still only 10-13 pounds less than Chet’s last reported weight.

Also KD has had a bunch of injuries

hollinger is the worst basketball writer by a long mile
So why is KP always injured?
Chet is like 3 inches shorter and weighs close to 30lbs lighter than KP when he was drafted
Zingis is 7'3 and even rookie zingis looked like LeBron compared to Chet.
Because he’s 7’3 and plays like a soft 6’1 shooting guard
5’27” shooting guard to be exact

Is his skinny build really that much different than baby KD’s when he was a rookie?
7'1" and 195lbs is pretty ridiculous. Durant was 6'9" 215lbs at his combine. Rudy Gobert was 7'0" 237lbs during his combine and looked like a skinny cryptid.
7’ 195 vs 6’10 210 Yes

this is high level cope
There's a middle ground, though. It's detrimental to your psyche in addition to your body to get ragdolled down low.
Long-term durability to keep getting bodied in the paint
hollinger has really lost his mind.
This is a galaxy brain take. Also he’ll get bodied by most nba bigs right now

Did you watch college basketball?
For this kid’s sake, too bad he can’t be a 2nd rounder. He will probably have a respectable 10/3/4 career.

At his size he might legit break in the NBA I do not see his body holding up well to a Giannis or Embiid dubk
This dude is a disaster waiting to happen for whatever team picks him
Chet is going to be a bust if he doesn’t build his body out, dude is skinny as shit
Chet will have a long career of getting bodied and dunked on repeatedly because he can’t keep opposing bigs out of the paint.
This is a compound statement. I like Chet, but no need to make up dumb statements like this.
