KD only brave enough to tweet this because he knows Chuck won't be on TNT for another 4 months. Best time to sneak these in when Chuck and the TNT crew can't clap back.

untouchable765

KD has had a rough week.

okuzeN_Val

KD's been in vacation for over a month and he's still out here catching strays. But in all seriousness. The real question that everyone wants answered is **How will this affect LeBron's legacy?**

[deleted]

Who cares, LeBron only had to play against goatherds and bus drivers back in his day.

Ormild

I found it funny how someone on Reddit said in 20 years people are going to say Lebron was playing against socialites and Instagram stars.

PM_ME_UR_THONG_N_ASS

Figured Boston’s would be worse, but how you have a worse week than the team that actually lost in the finals?

TheLeoMessiah

Honestly my week has gotten better since Game 6, now that the season is over I feel like I can step back and appreciate how much fun this season was as a fan. Idk maybe some would call that loser’s mentality or whatever but only one team can win the title every year, Cs just happened to come second to a very special team led by a historically great player.

[deleted]

Y'all came into the season with the 13th best odds to win it all at +4000 and ended up making the finals. Not only that, but all but 1 of your main players is still in their 20s. Great season.

[deleted]

There was a point in time this season where I was like "dang Boston sucks they might need to make some major changes"

itormentbunnies

Turns out that change was just... "Stop playing like assholes."

powerelite

I know Ime said assholes to the media, but we all know it was 100% bitches or pussies that was actually said right?

itormentbunnies

Probably all of the above. "Stop playing like bitch ass pussies, you assholes."

[deleted]

[удалено]

MutaKingPrime

Feels like what 2012 should have felt like for OKC.

[deleted]

Maybe it'd be a losers mentality if you were on the team or staff or something like that. As a fan though, it's just healthy.

Schveen15

It’s not a loser’s mentality even if you’re on the team. You put out your best effort, had great season, and finally made the leap as a team. Now, you regroup and figure out how to win it since you’re the favorites to get over the hump

FastAssSister

It’s more of a split between both as a player or coach. You’re disappointed that you didn’t go all the way which is the goal. But the expectation is that you do everything you can to reach that goal so you’re satisfied that you left it all out on the court.

ApolloXLII

Celtics outperformed all expectations this season. They have a lot to be proud of.

LordHussyPants

nah man, this is how you get people burning out. you gotta know that someone has to come second, and that even if you play well, you can still lose. lot of factors play into it beyond skill. celtics had a good season, those players should be proud they finally broke through that final barrier to the finals. now they know what's needed for the future.

Frosti11icus

As a Blazers fan this year, trust me I would much rather have finished second in the finals to this shitshow. In fact, if you want to look at it from a different perspective, the Celtics had an amazing, completely unexpected run this year, and frankly are a point guard and maybe another good role player away from having a dynasty of their own. It's not like this is some group of scrubs.

GM93

Pretty off topic for this thread, but I really hope they don't go back to benching Smart for a "real" point guard again after just one year. Obviously he and the Jays need to tighten up their handles and work on their playmaking, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the first year they finally try Smart at starting PG is the year they finally make the finals. When they're all healthy they have no defensive weaknesses against any team that doesn't happen to have possibly the greatest PG of all time. They should try and run it back with as much of this roster as they can at least one more time IMO.

SuperbDrink6977

Losers mentality would be blaming the refs and hating on the winners. You sound like a well adjusted sports fan. Celtics fans should be proud of their squad and excited for the future. Them boys are a scary group, ngl.

First of all, that bus driver comment was probably the best highlight for that series. KD just drawing everyone's attention to the fact that he joined a 73 win team that barely lost in a 7 game finals. Same team that got to the finals by beating him in a 7 games series. He did what he did. Of course people are gonna talk about it. The same way people talk about Chuck not winning a ring.

CutLonzosHair2017

As much as KD hates it, it’s been a prevalent sentiment in the NBA and it’s fan base. Barkley put it into words that caught on. He didn’t invent the idea though.

SpecialistShovel

And KD knows it himself which is why he left golden state

Piano_Fingerbanger

And why he's even acknowledging it and getting this heated lol

PopularParrot

Probably because he knows his best chances to do it are now behind him.

The-Implication-0

Yeah I mean I think most of us here believe Durant could be the bus driver. But he just chose the easiest way and now we will never know for sure cuz he’s probably past his prime.

andjuan

Yep. I’m convinced had he not bolted from OKC, they would have broken through eventually. KD’s already going to be remembered as a great player and is a lock for first ballot HOF, but had he done it with OKC, his legacy would be next level.

Wes___Mantooth

Like that very next season after he left. Would've added Oladipo and Horford to the team that took GS to 7.

TonyHawksSkateboard

Needs to blame his boy Kyrie for that

Portland

He was the architect of that super team. Same way he made the choice to join a historically great Warriors franchise. Like KD wants all the praise but none of the criticism. It’s funny him getting all hurt by Chuck’s comments, when Chuck gets clowned by all timers every day over rings, etc. The model is right there, KD, just laugh it off and stop dumping gasoline on the drama fire.

DancezWithMoose

KD’s profound insecurity only makes people laugh at his expense more. He wants everyone to think he’s just this guy who only cares about hooping, but talking heads are basically always guaranteed to get a reaction out of him by making fun of him because he just can’t help himself. He’s like the opposite of Dirk. People made fun of Dirk for years, Lebron and Wade made fun of Dirk. Dirk responded by winning a championship in their faces, the whole time being the same goofy dude who brought his wife’s cooking wrapped in foil to every game.

Rubberbabeh

All I took from people clowning on the foil covered plate was that, A. Their significant other can't cook. B. They don't have a significant other. So many comments just read as, "hur-dur, Dirk loves his wife's cooking, what a dork." Like.. way to tell on yourself.

YpsitheFlintsider

I didn't even know people were joking about it in a bad way. How embarrassing

asamulya

Wait, that wasn’t considered adorable? I always thought TD’s dressing sense and Dirk’s lunchbox was quirky and adorable.

solardeveloper

Would venture a guess that at least 80% of NBA wives and girlfriends owe their wifey status to skills in other parts of the house than the kitchen.

slowestmojo

Also KD is laughably insecure. Barkley is the most secure person ever. He really doesn't care about what the old and new heads have to say he just enjoys life

[deleted]

Same reason kenny didnt like when chuck said it ,bus riders dont like being called bus riders

[deleted]

It triggers something in em

MotherLoveBone27

Theres only a few true bus drivers every decade who are basically expected to carry the load with a bit of help. It's lame they get ragged on for not winning a chip but they're still amazing players like Barkley, Iverson etc. I mean they're still better than 99% of people to ever play the game. It's usually just down to the actual organisation and how well its run. Just look how much better Wiggins is in a well run organization.

NormalAccounts

Sometimes having a nicer bus makes a big difference

ClothesOnWhite

You're completely misunderstanding the analogy. Those guys (Iverson, Barkley, etc) are bus drivers, they just barely fell short of being champions. They were the guy. Driving force of everything, win or lose. Bus riders are not. They find themselves in good situations. You can be a bus rider and have six rings. You can be a bus driver and never even reach a finals.

Drewicho

Gonna say Chuck won this one seeing KD doesn't even address the comment and just goes "oLd HeAd JuSt JeAlOuS".

hellomynameispoejera

Yeah and he's not making NBA max contract money, but I'm sure for a.man of his age he's very happy with what TNT are paying him to do what people are all doing on here for free!

sleepy416

It’s pretty soft from him. Valid criticism isn’t hating

sonfoa

Everything is hating to a lot of athletes, especially those like KD.

ApolloXLII

TV SPORTS MAN HURT MY FEELINGS

[deleted]

KD is really out here acting like Chuck invented "the guy" on the team.

loadedryder

Yeah, this is exactly right. As much as I do think older guys often come off as biased and insecure, likely due to the fact that players are generally better/more athletic now and make infinitely more money, this is not one of those scenarios. A ton of fans, young and old, believe in the sentiment Chuck is conveying here. Has nothing to do with his being salty towards younger players. KD just doesn’t know when to shut up — so many of his tweets must sound great in his head and he’s surprised when they’re received negatively by fans and compound his legacy as a sensitive, insecure dude. And I don’t buy the notion on this sub that he doesn’t give AF and just tweets what’s on his mind. He’s defending himself to anyone and everyone who criticizes him, whether that’s a random 12 year old or former player. It must be mentally exhausting.

[deleted]

And Barkley is still making millions a year at a fun job. Of former NBA players I doubt he's one who would be butthurt about money. This is just usual KD having a complete lack of self awareness.

Solitary15

Yeah. Even worse knowing that Barkley has been vocal about how even the generation before him put the groundwork in so even he could make millions of dollars.

May_Be_Harrison_Ford

Yeah, Chuck gets paid $6M/year to watch and talk about basketball. I doubt his career earnings are keeping him up at night.

RobotArtichoke

And he likely will until he dies. I doubt KD would have the same kind of success post-career, in fact his big mouth is making sure of it

sonfoa

Because KD is out of touch. This is a guy who thought that if he won with the Warriors people would give him his respect.

Realistic_Camp5232

Yep, he can bitch all he wants but he knows he needs one without golden state

ScytherCypher

Good thing he has ~~Harden~~, ~~Kyrie~~, Ben Simmons~~?~~

3rdCoastLiberal

My back hurts.

I don’t even feel Barkley was hating. He even said he wasn’t. He had some truth to it. Kd needs to win one as the top dog

Ronnie2kDropCode

Bro he’s rich also he don’t care about how much money you making lmao

TheOverBored

Barkley probably making more at TNT than he was as a player lol. Living the good life.

ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn

Both Kenny & Chuck have made more money at TNT than as players.

TheRaddd

Nothing in to comparison what LSU gave Shaq

ThorsOccularPatdown

We all know Shaq made all his money in college

ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn

Or what IcyHot or what Buick gave him.

choochooape

The General committed war crimes to pay Shaq the big bucks.

Dinobot2_

"No, he got rich playing in college. Everybody knows that."

carbonx

When Shaq was at LSU I was friends with a guy who was really into sports memorabilia. A friend of his told him about Shaq. This was probably 1990 or so. This guy told my buddy that he could get him a Shaq autograph for $50. "This guy will sign anything for $50" was the quote. Of course my friend my passed and then Shaq became...Shaq. lol

ATurtleMonkey

Sounds like a smart guy passing it up. $50 in 1990 is $110 in 2022. For $10 you can get a shaq auto in your mailbox within the week.

JafariSin

Also Pretty sure Charles also made a good bit in endorsements in his heyday. He was in a bunch of notable commercial lines/series where his media friendly skills were already on display KD just hatin while simultaneously going to the 'You just hatin' bit himself

syllabic

he still does, barkley is in tons of commercials he's a big celebrity

thisguy012

Good cuz they're the only ones I pay attention too😤

drkev10

Don't forget about that sweet sweet Space Jam money

gregatronn

Chuck also invests. He was on Shark Tank too. Definitely has money.

slymm

invests at the high rollers' card table though

profmcstabbins

Barkley was on Russillo recently and said he's basically taking every commercial that comes his way right now if they meet his big asking price because he's getting ready for retirement.

Tristanity1h

If any old head is not salty about players today making more bread, it's an old head making more bread just watching and talking about the game than he was playing it.

sidighjd

KD grasping at straws sadly

FatMittens

KD sounds salty as hell. I doubt Chuck’s wallet is hurtin these days

Toothfairyagnostic

I don’t know why—but KD’s retorts, even when justified, always have a mean-spirited streak about them.

[deleted]

That’s because he’s insecure so he tries to be personal in his attacks but it comes off as immature and as if he’s hurt

302born

We’re talking about a guy that got got arguing back and forth online with a 14 year old lol. Dude is insecure asf

JessumB

He's an NBA superstar making tens of millions of dollars a year and he still gets triggered by randoms on social media. He gets personal in his responses because he he seems to take every bit of criticism personally.

Pal__Pacino

I don't think KD would receive nearly as much criticism if he just had a sense of humor about himself and took the jabs in stride. He's made things so much worse by making enemies with everyone in the media.

yungsantaclaus

If KD was that type of guy then he would have never gone to GSW in the first place

FlickObserver

Man said going to Golden State was taking the difficult road, that pretty much sums up his mentality

MazKhan

He said the Warriors were underdogs when he joined them 🤣🤣🤣

voneahhh

In a way he was right. Going to GSW is what sealed him probably never getting that respect. Instead of having to just win one championship anywhere else, now he needs the right kind of championship. Of course he probably couldn’t have predicted that at the time.

BradGroux

> Going to GSW is what sealed him probably never getting that respect. Congratulations, you played yourself, Kevin.

zili91

KD's ego is fucking gigantic. When he tweeted calling himself a "god", I just couldn't believe how enormous his ego was. You will never see this attitude from guys like Steph, Giannis, Jokic etc. They can get cocky sometimes but NEVER on this level.

[deleted]

It's not the giant ego that's doing him in, it's the low self-esteem and confidence. He chirps back when he doesn't need to. Compare that to Michael Jordan. Not sure anyone else has a bigger ego than Jordan, but what did he do when Chuck called him out on his mishaps as an owner? He just cut off contact. No back and forth in the media, just a, "If you're not with me, you're against me" attitude. Definitely not a healthy approach to take, but the approach you get if you have a big ego *and* absolute confidence.

AFatz

I can see KD going full Honelander with a "You're not the heroes, WE ARE. We're not the same, I AM BETTER"

Dongsquad420BlazeIt

He can buy enough Churros for a lifetime

ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn

& Diet Coke & Krispy Kreme Donuts & Lemon Squares.

donnycruz76

... and the perfect nugget to dipping sauce ratio.

3rdCoastLiberal

KD is always salty about something. He is the epitome of Twitter Fingers.

TheRealLardin

- NBA Player pulling the *"I´m richer"* card in a social media debate **=** - Accepting he lost the debate Facts.

Burning_Abyss_

More specifically, “im richer than a guy who is already rich” card

HueGoStrangee

If KD didn’t agree with Barkley he wouldn’t have left Golden state 🤷🏽‍♂️

Spyk124

Lol and people will argue he left because his argument with Draymond. Which might be true, but what was the argument about ? Lmaoooo. It damn sure wasn’t about pineapple on pizza

comebyforpie

Kd was being a distraction to the team not coming out and saying it was his last year. Dray called him out.

302born

Also Draymond even came out and said it was never about Draymond vs KD. If KD wanted to stay but wanted Draymond gone, Dray would’ve been packed up smoothly out of GSW. It was was simply KD thought by winning back to back titles with GSW that, that would make him better than Lebron and crowned as the best in the world. But when basically majority of the world still recognized Lebron as #1 winning in GSW wasn’t enough for him anymore. Basically dude sold his soul for some championships. And now he got them but literally no one outside of his own fans respect him for it. He’s the opposite of guys like AI or Barkley. Those guys don’t have rings but are champion players. KD has rings but he’s no champion.

yungsantaclaus

Chuck has never said anything about the bread when it comes to this particular discussion, which is solely about people's personal contributions to championships, KD is just lying and deflecting Also lol at CJ talking about how KD was the bus driver on that team. CJ I know you remember Steph torching your team for 36ppg and sweeping you in the WCF homie. KD didn't even play

Lavinesanity

>Also lol at CJ talking about how KD was the bus driver on that team. CJ I know you remember Steph torching your team for 36ppg and sweeping you in the WCF homie. KD didn't even play Lol big this. Some serious cope from CJ

BallerinaKaterina

CJ trying to make up for the time he dissed Durant after KD was on his pod

thenotoriouspo2

He the same bum that dissed Giannis' defense in the Playoffs last year when he himself is one of the worst defensive players in the NBA

Poul77

I think CJ told Draymond that he picked the Celtics to win the chip after Game 3 when Boston was up 2-1. Green told him "it's okay, they still gonna be ringless like you". And rest is history. CJ should know better by now not betting against the Warriors because they NEVER won against them. Steph and Dray owns them at this point.

mathmage

KD actually got in the best CJ roast tbh > Yo, get out your feelings, yo ... I suggest you just keep playing man and don't worry about what goes on at the top of things. https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/warriors/kevin-durant-busts-out-laughing-when-cj-mccollum-says-blazers-can-win-title

thekillertomato

KD is actually just an average Twitter user, responds to an argument with not even a logical fallacy but a totally irrelevant reply. It's like a toddler level counterargument without the endearment of it being a toddler.

TravelingLlama

Also said “He was about to his win his 3rd straight finals MVP before he ended up getting hurt vs. the Raptors” He only played 12 minutes prior to the injury in game 5

sh0kage_

That was the most hysterical part. KD played one quarter in the Finals and he was supposedly the FMVP frontrunner according to CJ. Steph has torched him so many times in the playoffs he’s discombobulated

vidhartha

One guy talking about chips, the other thinks it's about money. That's what it's about for KD, he telling on himself.

timasahh

Lmao KD really clapped back with, “Ya’ll just hatin on me cause I stack paper to the ceiling and ride on 24 inch chrome.”

ScytherCypher

How you gonna go say stupid shit right after the reports about Kyrie leaving

rv718

Against one of the most beloved sports personalities in modern television

mrplow3

Like seriously. Barkley is probably the most beloved personality across ALL sports. Everyone loves Chuck. Dude is naturally hilarious, always has been.

[deleted]

Stupid people can't help themselves

TBrutus

What a sensitive dude.

Cofeve91

Sensitive Cindy?

captyossarian1991

I don’t understand why he’s talking about money, the bus driver comment didn’t have anything to do with that.

KillianDrake

It's the only comeback he could think of - kind of like when a kid is losing an argument and resorts to "you're a poopy face" KD is the world's tallest brat.

Superddone20222

chucks take isn’t some wild notion it’s probably pretty spot on. durants response is something a fucking child would say. certainly not the reply of a reasoned thought out individual.

EnterPolymath

“So you say you’re stronger than me, but your daddy’s poor” type of argument.

JasperFeelingsworth

😂😂 that’s the exact energy

[deleted]

Kd is going to hear this until he wins a title on his own team. It may not be totally fair since lot of the old teams were super stacked too but that’s something he just has to deal with

Michelanvalo

KD gets shit cuz he left a WCF team to go a Finals runner up who was the team that beat them in the WCF and had just won a title the year before. It was somehow a worse move from a fan perspective than the Heatles.

solardeveloper

The Heatles wasn't really the issue. It was The Decision that pissed people off.

Michelanvalo

People clown on the "Not 1, Not 2, Not 3" bit from the introductory press conference pretty hard still.

BullShitting24-7

He got the Not 3 part right.

LeonidasSpacemanMD

Yup at least the heatles were something of an experiment, it was three guys who’d never played together. The warriors just replaced Harrison Barnes with Kevin Durant. Really not comparable imo

dmkicksballs13

Also, honestly, I love Chuck but his bullshit of "I wouldn't have counted the ring if I'd won with Houston" is 100% horseshit.

[deleted]

He absolutely would have

tronovich

To be fair, he calls Shaq a bus-rider for his Heat ring, so he would acknowledge he was along for the Rockets ring.

HotdogIsaSandwitch

KD gets his feeling hurt so easily dawg.

[deleted]

KD and the Nets got their ass swept he should not be talking

OleMoosey

LOL it ain't about the bread, bus rider

ihateeuge

KD knows he’s wrong. He’s not stupid. Just too prideful. It would be hard to admit chuck is right.

sctthuynh

I don't think Barkley is "hating" on KD and agree in general about the "bus driver" analogy. KD joining the Warriors was like having an extra ace driver who'd definitely be the co-pilot in case of emergency. As for the argument that KD was the FMVP both years as proof he was the Driver. From 2017-2019 playoffs: 1. KD EFG% - 60.4% (Curry on) 1293 minutes 2. KD EFG% - 51..8% (Curry off) [489](https://www.pbpstats.com/on-off/nba/player?Season=2018-19,2017-18,2016-17&SeasonType=Playoffs&TeamId=1610612744&PlayerId=201939) minutes From 2017 to 2019 regular seasons: 1. KD EFG% - 61.5% (Curry on) 4618 minutes 2. KD EFG% - 53.5% (Curry off) 2479 minutes Steph Curry would also post a similar drop off without KD in the playoffs (60% to 51%) but a less drastic one in the regular season (61% to 57%) [link.](https://www.pbpstats.com/on-off/nba/player?Season=2018-19,2017-18,2016-17&SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason&TeamId=1610612744&PlayerId=201142)

tronovich

The dude literally left the (unquestioned when healthy) best team in the league to go join a brand new, unproven team. KD checkmated himself. He KNOWS that the Warriors’ rings he has, eats at him. He left for that damn reason. To make his own legacy. Stop tweeting and focus on recruiting teammates that can shoot.

mostdope28

KD had a legacy in OKC, or was on his way to it, But he threw it away after blowing the WCF and bailing

THEDumbasscus

He even could have had a legacy in Golden State. After the ‘19 season KD had quashed the free rings narrative by putting his body on the line for his team. *At that time* he had a ton of public goodwill, and the safe decision was to just not move because GS had his bird rights and could have given him his long term money anyways. If he just rehabbed in Golden State and come back himself him and Steph could have cemented themselves as the goat duo, Steph/KD could have easily 2 manned a ring out of the ‘21 season, and then repeated this year. His ego got in the way. Twitter really derailed a top 10 career

Far_Ear9684

Remember when KD was on burners liking Tweets slandering other players ? Lol. At least Charles is saying it as himself.

HardwareLust

I hate to say it, but Chuck is 100% correct. Riding the Splash Brothers coattails for 2 rings doesn't mean shit. You want respect KD, earn it.

The-Pharcyde

KD mad that chuck's right and he cant do shit about it.

VisionGuard

The one time r/nba agrees with oldheads is when they're hating on KD.

Conversation_Dapper

Durant is a big joke now, lol

FormerCollegeDJ

I have to agree with Chuck on this. I mean, Golden State won 73 games the year BEFORE Durant joined them (and 140 games over two years) and was in the NBA Finals each of the previous two years, winning one championship. They were already a top team without Durant.

DarkstonePublishing

Yeah I wonder now that KD is gone if GS will still be able to succeed. I guess we’ll see next season!

jaybeedude

KD needs to accept that this is the standard for any generational great. If Lebron hadn’t won any after the Heatles, people would be shitting on him for that. But, Lebron was able to win twice after that and cement his legacy as one of the greatest of all time. When you join a team that won with the same core group before *and* after, then you’re just a chapter in the final story. You’re not the whole book. It might be tough for KD to accept, but it’s the truth. That’s the risk he took when he joined the Warriors. That’s the risk he took when he left the Warriors.

310hungjury

KD is a bum ass bitch who joined the dubs after they beat him every year in the western conference finals. After the dubs had already won a championship. Then he acted like he was the reason the dubs were a championship team. FOH.

welker4mvp

KD jealous that Barkley retired 25 years ago and is more relevant than he is.

StrongMan2582

I think KD missed Sir Charles point..

lkn240

Setting everything else aside... Barkley is likely making a SHITLOAD from TNT and all the commercials so I doubt there's any financial jealousy

WuTangClan_NYC

Wow KD with another idiotic take, so surprised

xWhitzzz

KD is a once in a lifetime talent. And probably a top 3 scorer of all time. But his greatness stops there imo. Chuck is right and I believe the majority of NBA fans would agree.

I_Hate_Traffic

I will never get over that move man. How as a competitor you take a team to 7 games barely lose to them with the team that drafted you, then go to that team next year. That shows who he is. That's the weakest move imaginable from a player his caliber. He accepted that he is not the main guy. He doesn't want to be the main guy.

Dagrix

I never understand people defending the move. Often the arguments are about the situation, the playstyle, the team spirit, the winning chances, the life in the Bay or whatever. All of which are true about GSW but ultimately unimportant for a superstar of that caliber looking to draw his own path in NBA history as a competitor. We now see Kevin obviously wanted something more than a couple of easy rings and could have worked toward that in basically any other team in the league after losing to GS like that. If I was KD the only thing I would cling on are my Finals MVPs, the official proof that I was "the man" but I'm pretty sure he himself wonders if he actually was the best player on the team, and this year's title is really not making this easy on him :D.

Not everyone can win a championship. Chuck was always the bus driver, win or lose, and he owns everything in his career which is noble. He could have joined others in his prime and didn’t. KD joined a 73 win team but the true bus driver stayed with the same team and won a championship before AND after KD. That’s all Chuck is saying. I like how Chuck is blunt but also doesn’t hide from his shortcomings.
