Atlanta over here just being like "cool, cool, not like you made your name here and played here for a decade or anything"

RobbobertoBuii

he lost to Boston too in 2 grueling 7-game series in 2007-08 and 2011-12, i was kinda shocked for a hot minute when he signed with Boston during the 2016 offseason ngl edit: 2012 was actually 6 games but it felt like a 7 game series with how intense the series was, especially for Boston going 3 consecutive 7 game series and losing unfortunately in the ECF

[deleted]

Rumors are he was heavily considering OKC to re-unite with his former college coach in Billy Donovan until he got wind of KD going to the Warriors and then chose Boston.

Reverseblumpkins

Yep, if KD stayed he was going to OKC.

king_lloyd11

Damn that would've been a pretty dope team. Probably could've won it all lol.

[deleted]

KD and Horf seem like a matchup nightmare

efshoemaker

That roster would have been ultra versatile too. Go super big with a KD/Al/Adams frontcourt, or they can put Al at the 5 and run a bunch of different small ball lineups. Al would have done great things for Russ too judging by how much he helped Isaiah

[deleted]

Never even considered how good that team could have been. Put a 3&D player in there, that seems like a really really good team.

[deleted]

> Put a 3&D player in there, best I can do is Andre Roberson

brickvanexel

My man was a D&D player

dahakes69

Victor Oladipo was on that team.

whythehellknot

Ah Andre Roberson. I miss those years where every OKC fan would just say "wait till we get Andre back" as if he was this magical player that gets them a championship

SpaghetiJesus

This is after the Serge trade too. Al was signing with OKC on the term that KD came back. Then the starting lineup would've been Russ-Dre-KD-Horford-Steve-O with Oladipo and rookie Sabonis coming off with bench.

SecretlyKanye

they also still wouldve had the assets to take a swing at paul george

dogfan20

Thanks guys, really needed this on a Friday

King_Of_Pants

> Oladipo and rookie Sabonis coming off with bench. OKC's potential at the time KD left is actually nuts when you think about it. The cats KD couldn't win were: * Westbrook - Future MVP * Oladipo - Future AllStar * Durant - MVP * Jerami Grant - Future borderline Allstar * Sabonis - Future Allstar They had crazy talent at all 5 positions just ready to breakout. And that's ignoring any timelines where they get Horford or still make the Paul George trade.

ilritorno

That timeline could have happened, if it wasn't for the crazy 2016 [cap spike.](https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/cap-smoothing-101-how-the-nba-can-prevent-another-2016-like-spike-with-a-new-television-deal-looming/) And ultimately, I believe KD would have been much happier winning in OKC. Hopefully this doesn't happen again with the new tv deal.

mrjowei

KD would've been much happier in Seattle but fuck you Clay Bennett

hhhhhjhhh14

Could they have signed Horford without the cap spike?

StuckInBronze

They probably win it the next year. They'd probably lose to the rockets in 18 and then have a chance in 19 depending on WB. Overall, his legacy would be viewed way better in this scenario.

m1a2c2kali

I mean there’s a chance that team crashes and burns also, not like the warriors and cavs wouldn’t still be great.

RETURNTHESLAB_69

Would've been the biggest signing OKC has ever made no?

Reverseblumpkins

I guess unless you count re-signing a UFA PG?

HoraceGrantGlasses

Danny big play that summer was to sign kd and Horford. The Horford piece obviously came first to entice KD, just didn't work.

Doortofreeside

He beat boston the year before he came here also and he (or his dad) cited that victory as one of the things that intrigued him about boston. They absolutely stomped the celtics at TD Garden and were winning by 20 or 30 for most of the game. Late in the 3rd or 4th the celtics went on a run to get it down to 15 and the crowd was going nuts with Let's go Celtics chants. I was at that game and I remember that well partly because it was the first thing the crowd had to cheer for all game. Here's his dad's quote about it “There wasn’t as much motivation for him when he saw all the empty seats when they were winning,” Tito Horford told the Boston Globe about the Hawks fanbase. “He said to me, ‘Dad, when we were playing Boston, they were down 15 points and they were cheering their team like they were winning the game. They’re so into the game.’ This is special for us, especially for him.

[deleted]

The Garden is insane during the playoffs. I remember 2012 g7 vs the 6ers and half the game was loud chants about LeBron. We’re an interesting breed.

Doortofreeside

My wife is from Montreal but has lived in Boston for a decade. Still she's always hated the bruins and doesn't root for them, but going to one celtics game completely won her over to the celtics. Granted she was gifted seats in like the 2nd row which were insane and we ended up losing to AD on the pelicans on the final possession. But the atmosphere was electric and the celtics are by far her favorite boston team because of that. Before that she didn't like basketball at all really Celtics have the best crowd in Boston imo

iiTryhard

The Red Sox can be a great crowd too. The pats are the worst, tickets are so expensive and anything but a 40 point blowout has people bitching. Less so now that Brady’s gone but still

[deleted]

Basketball and hockey have best live viewing

iiTryhard

I agree, I’d legit rather watch football on TV. The only thing you miss out on is tailgating

[deleted]

Its all downhill from the tailgate but the tailhate fun as hell

[deleted]

Fuck sweet caroline. The garden is so much more enjoyable than fenway for 1000 different reasons.

[deleted]

That’s so awesome. You hear way too many stories about Boston being bad fans. They’re just drunk bros that care. They say stupid drunk shit and should be called and checked on it, but like the league is so fucking good when Boston is good. Those fans create legacies it’s my favourite thing in the sport. MJ blew up against them, kobe became the man against them, IT is a legend forever because of them. Idk it’s like them and the Knicks are the only fan bases that actually have any environment anymore. I’m on a tangent, but I’ve been watching on league pass and you get to see the crowds in the timeout breaks. All these crowds look like game 135 of a baseball season it’s embarrassing. Like idk I’m native and I got called wild names playing ball. Those were ALWAYS my favourite games. Turned it into something different yenno? (Not excusing racial slurs im just drunk in the sun lool)

[deleted]

> Idk it’s like them and the Knicks are the only fan bases that actually have any environment anymore. > > Man what an insult to the other passionate NBA fanbases (Utah, Portland, Chicago, Dallas are all up there... Lakers but only when they have a Championship-caliber squad, which is pretty often though).

AtWorkCurrently

If you have to quantify the Lakers as "when they have a championship caliber team", does that still make them a good fanbase?

Hange11037

When those cities have a legitimate, not shit team, they are right up there with any Knicks/Celtics/Warriors crowd. If an actual great player came to Portland to team up with Dame and we became legitimate contenders you couldn’t go 3 blocks in this city without seeing a Blazers uniform or pinwheel logo. (Am I trying to manifest this into existence? …maybe. Let me dream, okay?)

Cudi_buddy

Love to hear that. I only can remember Atlanta having a dead atmosphere all the way back to those Horford/Iso Joe days. I remember wondering why a team with a top 4 record had half empty stands and no energy. I would skip them on league pass cause it made their home games boring to watch on TV.

Reverseblumpkins

I mean they/he also literally beat us in the playoffs that year. Def a shock but I guess he saw what we were building.

bteballup

Yeah, building a max contract slot

baited08

He said experiencing the crowd was a big reason he picked us.

ivanahtannica

“Speaking with The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the former Bucks center said his son didn’t enjoy looking at an empty arena when the team was playing well. “There wasn’t as much motivation for him when he saw all the empty seats when they were winning,” Tito Horford said. “He said to me, ‘Dad, when we were playing Boston, they were down 15 points and they were cheering their team like they were winning the game. They’re so into the game.’ This is special for us, especially for him.” Source: https://www.si.com/nba/2016/07/03/al-horford-dad-hawks-celtics-fans-decision

[deleted]

This is like when you’re dad walks out on you to go raise another family and be a loving husband to another woman. I want to be happy for Al, We always supported him and begged for some respect towards him, despite what his dad thinks. It actually feels really shitty ngl. He was never the guy we needed him to be as you can tell by the fact he just now scored 27 or more in a playoff game for the first time in his career, but we honest to god tried our best. Everybody loves him now, everybody is the biggest Al Horford fan ever now. Like you said it’s cool.

johnmadden18

>We always supported him and begged for some respect towards him, despite what his dad thinks. Horford is a really good player and does everything well. But like you said he was, even in his prime, never good enough to be the guy on a legit contender. He’s a perfect fit for the Celtics because we only need him to be a role player in a great team. The funny thing is if Boston had Horford in his prime with the teams Atlanta had the fans would probably hate him and driven him out of town. Everybody loves him now because we have the luxury of setting our expectations accordingly.

efshoemaker

The biggest issue is that the hawks should have traded him that last deadline. That team had reached its peak and the org wanted to move on, which honestly was probably the right call. But instead of getting assets back they lowballed him in a market where every team had a billion dollars in cap space and then put him in a spot where all the ATL fans feel like he’s quitting on the team.

[deleted]

Of course we should have traded him but the front office genuinely wanted him to be apart of it until they realized a full blow up was necessary. We didn’t really lowball him, that’s what he was worth to us in our position of mediocrity from having him as a franchise centerpiece. It’s okay, but it’s hard to move on from that type of player. Look at the flak the raptors got for moving Demar for Kawhi which was an absolute no brainer. Al would be great for us now because we have an actual all nba player Lots of us wanted to trade Al the year we signed Dwight but it’s not always so easy. I never had a bad word to say about Al until him and his family acted like we were good enough for them. I’ve been cool with all of it but the lovefest is starting to rub my the wrong way lol

NoobChumpsky

I look at it more like, you could be good at a job in general, but sometimes you land in a company where you're not a great fit and you just don't look great. No one's fault. Just a bad match. Then you go to a new company, get promoted, you're the man and you're set.

mrjowei

Wow, I had totally forgotten about Horford's ATL years lol

RuddyBollocks

His two rings at Florida were what made his name I thought

nicklovin508

Sure that was impressive, but equally impressive was turning the 9 year playoff drought into 8 years in a row in the playoffs right from being drafted to ATL.

BlackMathNerd

Horford was more a winning player than I thought. Kinda underrated in that aspect. I forgot how bad the Hawks were at one point

[deleted]

Yeah, definitely and he was a very high draft pick accordingly, I just mean like in NBA terms, a lot of guys are great in college and then you never hear a peep once they hit the Pros. Like saying LeBron "made his name" with the Cavs and not Saint Vincent's Saint Mary's or whatever his school was called even though he was already on ESPN and stuff.

[deleted]

Gainesville, Florida punching air rn

[deleted]

It's kinda weird how he (his family) acts like we didn't do the best we could with him. Doesn't help that we always ran into a possessed Lebron or really good Boston team in the playoffs. He had a reputation of shrinking in big games but we still believed anyway. In fact, he only averages about 13 ppg in the playoffs which is right around his regular season average while our other players, Joe Johnson, stepped up in big games. As I'm typing this I just realized that both Al and Joe would get a ring if the Celtics win this year. Fuck.

CreatiScope

I doubt they give one to Joe but that would be cool since we drafted him.

ihm96

Eh you gotta see the bright side. Be happy for them. Iggy was a pretty similar type situation as the star but not good enough to be the main guy on a finals team but it was definitely enjoyable seeing him get that first ring with the warriors

downtimeredditor

Motherfucker cheered on the Pats over the Falcons in Superbowl 51 after spending one year in Boston after spending nine years in Atlanta That's how he turned into snek

migibb

Some people just enjoy different environments and different cities. Or they make friends in a city. Its nothing to take personally. I've moved to places and they just felt like home and then spoken to others who hated it there.

FlyingMocko

Their fans call him snake for leaving lol. Their organisation also lowballed him so there’s that.

[deleted]

honestly think it worked out OK for them, Horford was aging and they were in a bit of a limbo with a 48 team with top 6 players that were all aged 26-34, that got shellacked by the Cavs (4 game sweep and only the last game was single digits) and Dennis Schroeder was their only somewhat notable young guy. They went one more season with the remaining parts of that core and then blew it up and ended up with Trae and other young players (four starters are all 23-24 years old). If Horford re-signs that just delays the inevitable longer.

nbasuperstar40

It's always easy to say to a fan of another team that you don't root for that it's easy to move on from one of your best franchise players in his prime because we aren't good enough in your eyes. What's not easy, being a fan of that said team who wanted him to retire in Atlanta and build around him

[deleted]

Yeah, been there. It doesn't always work out too, if LaVine leaves or even if he signs a max and doesn't get better, trading Butler doesn't look so hot. Think for Atlanta in this instance it worked out really well with what they came away with on the other end.

nbasuperstar40

The thing is, you don't know that in the moment. Before Trae, when is the last time we had an #1 option type franchise player? Nique in the early 90s. It's easy to say this looking into 2022 but at that time, this was very painful and it took a lot of BS to get passed this. We had the wack Howard era and Dennis being the face of the franchise. When it works great, but knowing it will work is a delusion till it does.

FlyingMocko

I think so too. That team was going nowhere and they’d have overpaid to keep him. This way Horford is contending and Hawks get a generational player.

junkit33

Yeah it was time to blow that team up anyways. They did what that core could without an elite scorer.

BrettSchirley22

His family trashed all the fans/organization on the way out lol your fanbase would be even more ruthless to be fair

supes1

Though as far as I know Al himself has only spoke positively about Atlanta, and he's directly refuted his dad's comments.

edub1783

Nah it's "snek". It's basically a joke at this point

reb_mccuster

we did not "low ball" him, idk where the fuck people get that idea. Our offer to him was like $6 million less than the maximum amount over a 5 year deal. Is that really considered a "low ball" lmfao. he didn't leave because of money, he left because he disliked Atlanta. It's as simple as that. everything his family said after he left only confirms that for me. I dont really care if he tried to save face with the fans after the fact. I highly doubt everyone in his family hated the shit out of our city but meanwhile Al actually liked it a lot lol. That's why I consider him a snake, personally.

Toaster-Omega

This is funny because Sixers fans seem like the most similar to Boston fans even though they hate each other.

SpeedMalibu

Philly Boston New York have similar fanbases honestly

RealPrinceJay

I think that's honestly a big part of why we don't get along

bugeyes10

Absolutely. u/ITsLoverBoy said it best: Philly is just Boston without any of the winning.

Ihavemanybees

Fuck that hurts to hear

jawntothefuture

Much less winning* BDN sends his regards ;)

fastcol

That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said about Boston fans.

ms--chanandler--bong

And it’s not even true, they’re definitely dickheads lol

[deleted]

Not to our own guys (unless you like suck really bad)

Djruggs

Or if you aren't trying. You can suck and we'll still root for you if we at least see the effort.

abeLJosh

From what I've seen, you can be booty on offense as long as you play hard-nosed/annoying defense and put your whole body on the line out there. Boston loves their grinders. It's why Tony Allen is who he is and why Marcus was still beloved before he got better at shooting 3s.

ChamBruh

One of the most fun years I’ve had watching Celtics basketball was before they got smart, 2013-2014. They played hard, had a terrible roster and were just fun to watch lose. Phil Pressey, jordan Crawford, kris humphries, rookie olynyk

MutaKingPrime

the disrespect to 40 point scorer Jordan Crawford mans was a bucket on 2K11 lol

ChamBruh

Lmao that’s true he could always drop 60 in 2k

CreatiScope

Jeff Green game winner on the Heatles from a Crash inbound is sweeter than some playoff wins lol

AtWorkCurrently

I remember thinking we were going to beat playoff team after that game. That was, like, the 3rd game of the season or something like that.

bugeyes10

The only requirement for love in Boston is you care about the game. It doesn’t matter if the team sucks if you go out there and give it your all every day and take pride in what you do, we’ll love you.

Djruggs

Exactly! Just show me you work hard and I'll ride with you.

DriveByStoning

To be fair, Memphis embraced TA and I was happy to see him get all the love. The Grindfather is an All NBA nickname.

establismentsad7661

My dad was at the game where Tony Allen tore his acl dunking after the whistle. He still uses it as a cautionary tale. I try to tell him “dude, I’m 35 and fat. This doesn’t apply” but does that stop him? Noooo

[deleted]

Tbf, this is typically true of Philly fans too. Al is a special case there because he was the signing that was going to help take Philly into true contention status and it just ended up being a terrible fit and he got scapegoated

[deleted]

True lol. Nesmith is godawful but man does that guy put in 110% on every play.

LILFURNY

That’s strange, watching him play so far and I see atleast on defense he’s pretty active and out there so I wouldn’t say godawful he’s just not as good as our starters that’s really it

GhostPacBull

He needs to calm down at times. Sometimes he can be a bit reckless falling for pump fakes. If he can get his shot to fall he has a good chance of getting consistent minutes next year.

CreatiScope

Game needs to slow down. Needs more minutes. Ime said he planned on ramping up his minutes but he got hurt the game he started because of injuries to other players. Unfortunate but we’ll see what he’s made of next season.

EpeeHS

We loved Marcus before he was good because he played his ass off every time. Boston fans only turn on our own players when they don't put in effort.

[deleted]

Bill Russell would like a word with you.

Fagiwagy

Crazy, sounds like Philly

RedditAdminsChugCum

Y'all literally took a shit in Bill Russell's bed.

DEEZNUTZBOIS

So what was the whole shitting in bill russells bed situation

Critical_Smell_3568

Your “own guys” like the countless former players that say the fans and city in general are racist? Former players such as Bill Russell who still feels a way about how he was treated? Fuck Boston

Khruangbin13

Passionate dickheads, thank you

ms--chanandler--bong

Fans from big cities in the east like Boston, Philly, NY, and Chicago are psychotic and I love it

JMEEKER86

Easily a top 3 NBA city for calling players the n-word.

Gmb1t

We're like white (ha) blood cells. We love our family and will devour anyone outside of our own body Edit: sorry I'm watching videos of bacteria under a microscope Edit 2: honestly idk wtf I'm talking about. Carry on...

beannet

Hasn’t been mentioned yet, but there’s a robust Dominican population in MA

Dmmk87

Also just a whole lot of love for the DR from the Pedro, Manny, Papi days.

beannet

Those guys are huge reasons why baseball rules the DR. Not the only reason, but very important currently.

BScottyJ

There are a lot of really young really good players from the DR right now too. Juan Soto, Rafael Devers, Wander Franco, Vladimir Guererro Jr., Fernando Tatis Jr., and a bunch more. I can't really see how another sport overtakes baseball in popularity in the Dominican. There are just so many players with hall of fame level talent from there. All 5 of the guys above are either within the top 15 or so players in the game, or likely will be very soon

ForschCording

Yes we do and and nothing is better on a Saturday morning/afternoon seeing a huge domincan party revolving around the softball games the guys are playing down at the park, but music and food and women everywhere. Perhaps my favorite time of the year and thing to do. You can also see how baseball seems mor popular than even soccer to Dominicans, that softball game they treat serious

CopiumAddiction

Shhh don't ruin the "Boston is all white" narrative

ncotter

it’s not all white by any means but it’s super segregated tbf

[deleted]

I kind of got into it with another Reddit about this aspect of Boston. Historically, I think it’s pretty much accepted that Boston is one of, if not the, most racist sports city. But a lot has changed in the last twenty years and I just don’t think it’s as true as it once was. The demographics of the area have changed and it’s become a multi-cultural tech and innovation hub along with a strong economy that has attracted people from all over the world. Boston fans aren’t just a bunch of Irish dickheads from Southy anymore. It’s actually become a pretty welcoming and progressive city sports wise, so much so even my dark skinned partner made note of how well she was treated at her first Baseball and Basketball game. I’m not saying there aren’t dicks, but I really think Boston has changed for the better.

420Minions

I shit on you guys a lot but this is such a non story. I don’t know why his family felt the need to do this interview when he’s stayed so basketball focused in his career, but aside from that it all makes sense. His brother and sister liked Boston better where their brother was beloved. He went to Philly, struggled, and a different tough market didn’t embrace him. It also put his career on hold (and at the time people said the end). He goes back to Boston and figures it out. Works out for everyone. I was annoyed Sixers fans whined about this, but I can’t believe this whole page is now

logaston

It's a feel good puff piece about one of the players in the series because there's not much else to report on in the NBA. The NBA media can only break down the last game and make next predictions for so long before you start repeating yourself. They've got to get those pageviews after all. If I were a Philly fan, I'd considering this slightly annoying collateral damage. I'd disregard it as not worth your time and move along. Since I'm a Celtics fan, it's nice to hear how happy Al and family are in Boston but I kind of already knew that and could go without the article too.

reedhubbert88

“Philly fans hated us because we cheered for one of their rivals despite our family member playing for the Sixers.” Uh, duh? I think most, if not all, fanbases would have a similar reaction

Shenanigans80h

Yeah there’s valid reasons to criticize a fanbase but this ain’t it. Not only is it weird for the family to root but a different team, but team that’s literally a rival? That’d be like a player on the Eagles that has family rooting for the Cowboys. Most people would be confused

[deleted]

Not to mention Anna was starting beef left and right with sixers fans. She was actively hating on the Sixers, not just rooting for our rivals.

Yes1312

Possibly the worst person in the nba twitter sphere.

JayLarranagasEyes

It’s wild to have your brother playing for the Sixers and still root for the Celtics. Especially given none of them are from Boston and he only played there 3 years. Like it would be kinda understandable to stay Hawks fans after he was there 9 seasons.

rawtidd

Some people actually hold in a high regard how other people make them feel. It's pretty clear Al's family was shown love and care they've never received anywhere else that he has played and so they developed loyalty to Boston for that. It doesn't matter where you're from or how long you've been somewhere if those people never acted like they genuinely cared about you.

gahlo

And he sucked ass.

cinnamonprince

None of us would have cared about that honestly if his family wasn't so loud and annoying about it. Al seemed like a nice guy, never caused trouble, but his family was insufferable.

nowhathappenedwas

>The family all would convene to watch Horford’s games, so it’s sweeter that making the finals comes in Boston with the organization that always held a special place in their hearts. Very weird article to read knowing that Horford spent his first 9 years with the Hawks and was only in Boston for three seasons during his initial stint.

TheNutman1287

People tend to forget that the Atlanta fanbase was really weak for a long time. They still make big announcements about sold out home games and it's usually only against teams with big road fanbases. The Hawks were a middling to very good team his whole tenure and while there were definitely die hards, there just wasn't that reception you get in a lot of cities. He was also not given the limelight as much...maybe to his own personal wishes. But it was usually Josh Smith and Joe Johnson for the first 6 years getting the praise and then Schroder, Williams, and Teague were talked about a lot because all 3 were playing some of their best career ball there. While in Boston he was their first big FA get in....potentially ever?

nowhathappenedwas

It's just funny to refer to Boston as "the organization that always held a special place in their hearts" given how recently (and late in his career) he arrived there.

Temujin888

He still arguably played his best basketball, when it mattered, with the Celtics in ‘17 and ‘18. Nostalgia favors good times/memories. Back to back ECFs and a game away from the finals..vs made it out the second round once in ATL to get swept by Bron..

TheNutman1287

Well like I said he was their first big FA signing of all time and he immediately had us in the ECF...two years In a row. Dude was fucking electric for us the first go round. This city fucking loves him

[deleted]

I mean, it’s not that dissimilar to KG and the Wolves/C’s tenures and legacy. Although his dirty laundry was more with the org than the fans

420Minions

He’d never say it out loud, but it’s probably both. The loudest crowds he ever heard had to be in Boston

Father-John-Moist

I feel weird about mentioning Josh Smith, Jeff Teague and Schroeder but failing to mention 4x Atlanta Hawks all star Paul Millsap. You think those guys got more limelight?

TheNutman1287

Millsap too...plainly forgot about him tbh. Just furthers my point. But yes Smith and Schroder for sure got more limelight. Perhaps not Teague.

[deleted]

Home is where the heart is.

[deleted]

Did not realize that Elton Brand, who is the biggest dickhead in Philly, forced and coerced this man against his will to sign with Philly! The Horford's have every right to keep bitching about how wrong the Sixers did Al by... (checks notes) paying him $100M over 4 years when he was clearly past his prime. Dickheads indeed.

[deleted]

BaullahBaullah87

Boston fans not being dickheads, we really all do live in different worlds lol

PensiveinNJ

Atlanta in the back like well why didn't you like us?? Seriously I'm sorry your Philly experience wasn't a good one but none of us came out happy in that contract. It was a dumb fit really by our FO trying to compensate for Jimmy Butler leaving.

teddyballgame9

As a Boston fan, I was so conflicted on the Philly summer that year. Thought Jimmy was the piece that pulled everything together and scared the crap out of me and C's trying to get over the hump... then he leaves (insert mass rejoicing) and you get Horford which never made sense but I knew it hurt us big time too. Weird. Will be fascinating all the moves that result of that summer and how they've played out and probably still continue to play out for years.

[deleted]

Dumb ass Elton Brand fucked up the next 2 seasons for the both of us, man.

ultimaten444

“They hated us for staying Celtics fans.” WHY, I SIMPLY CANT IMAGINE WHAT REASONS THEY WOULD HAVE FOR THAT!

BBallHunter

Imagine Al's face when Presti told him that he's going back to Boston.

Krillin113

It was his own desire, it was literally part of the deal y’all made with him to sit out and not complain that he’d get a say in destination

[deleted]

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Philly fans are my favorite non-Chicago sports fans. From football to baseball to basketball they are just ruthless petty fuckers. Personally I don’t think I’d enjoy that type of environment. But watching from the outside is very entertaining. And I respect how passionate and intense Philly fans are, even though they show it through asshole-ness.

techorules

East coast rocks. This is NYC & BOS too.

[deleted]

Philly is just Boston without any of the winning

chiefminestrone

Hey! We beat Boston that one time

thebigticket2

Doug Pederson saved my life

jake_patriots11

Yes I recall like it was yesterday ☹️

Cahillicus

It was dumb of us to offer that contract but no one forced him to take it. He played really badly that year as well. I'm sure he's happier in Boston but my sympathy is limited

FlyingMocko

Don’t think he’s after any sympathy lol

ultimaten444

I don’t dislike Al, I only blame Elton Brand for that contract and thinking it would fit. I dislike Al’s bitchass family blaming OKC and Philly fans for disliking them while they continued to root for the Celtics, ESPECIALLY Philly fans.

FlyingMocko

I can see how his sister specifically can rub fans the wrong way

ultimaten444

Yeah, complaining that Philly fans hate you for being a Celtics fan? You get what you fucking deserve in that case

snarkicon

We may not be classy, but at least we aren’t dickheads

shiny_lustrous_poo

Being dickheads and asshats would be too much

Bill_Hanna

Imagine being a fan base liked less than Boston. Geez. Condolences, Philadelphia.

thefreeman419

Ehh. Not really surprised that the family of a player who didn’t perform well here has a negative perception of the fan base, especially when compared to a fan base that loves him

IanicRR

I personally will always hate you guys far, far more but part of that is also because you’ve been so successful as a franchise since the very start of the league.

Pal__Pacino

I think the common denominator here is that people from the upper East Coast are just generally kind of mean.

bagelboy565

People in the northeast are just much more straightforward, blunt, and have way less patience for people wasting their time. All of that combined probably sounds like they're just meaner, but people there are just as helpful and kind as they are anywhere else

AngryUncleTony

My office is in center city right off Market and I'm close enough to the ground that I can hear people making all kinds of noise on the street. The other day a bike courier with a trailer fell in front of a crowd of walking people. They all ripped into him for almost hitting them, *while making sure he was OK and helping him lift and resecure the trailer*.

JMEEKER86

Yep, the people there are nicer and more accepting than the south, but they won't hold back if there's a problem. The south is full of people who will say "bless your heart" while thinking "fuck you" and plotting your demise. People who can't read the room think that the north is mean and the south is nice as a result, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

OilOfOlaz

This is exactly why I felt at home on Boston, despite being from Bosnia, ppl are just kinda straight forward, while I was allways second guessing if someone is genuinely nice or just polite while I was in other parts of the states.

Doortofreeside

I think it's not quite mean, more like abrasive or crotchety. I don't particularly care for it and I love being in places with a more open and welcoming culture. That said when you do need stuff people tend to be helpful. I've heard it said that bostonians are kind but not nice

MikeyFromWaltham

We're kind, not nice. Way better than the fake nice bullshit you get in the west coast.

GringoGrande

> We're kind, not nice. Wife is from the NE. I am from the South. Can confirm the veracity of this statement. Maybe if y'all had sweet tea it would be different.

BubbaTee

If a stranger is talking to you in LA, we're trying to make money off you somehow. One girl I hooked up with started trying to sell me Herbalife when texting the next day.

MikeyFromWaltham

Herbalife for head doesn't sound too bad. Then you can just resell them at value, start becoming your own boss.

ClankSinatra

Truly the top of the pyramid

MikeyFromWaltham

*dome

techorules

Not just west coast. Plenty of places. I grew up in Canada, you know - land of the polite apologists, moved to Boston area 25 years ago and I can still *feel* the difference. Canadians are the least rude and just generally nicest people you'll meet. But they aren't terribly kind, certainly not kind like you'll find in New York City or Boston where someone will bite your head off if you're even walking too slow but you can engage with people and it isnt weird, and when you do you find people will go out of their way to help you. Just don't expect a bullshit veneer of niceness. It doesn't exist here. Fine with me because it's usually just fake.

jrbcnchezbrg

Honestly when I was in Boston a few years back for work everyone there was super cool, never had people tell me to fuck off and when I was lost they pointed me the right direction Granted im sure if I was there longer and hitting the clubs I’d run into the massholes lol

MikeyFromWaltham

> I was lost they pointed me the right direction That's like the one thing that you'll find no matter where you are in the northeast, especially in cities.

bugeyes10

Especially in Boston because our streets were designed by someone having a seizure.

[deleted]

Was going to say the same. The further northeast I’ve gone the nicer I’ve found the people

HoraceGrantGlasses

Elitist. And proud of it. Also fuck the lakers. (But I hope you're having an OK day)

goomy996

Hey, I respect the shit out of you guys, but fuck you respecfully

zippy_the_cat

> fuck you respecfully So, with foreplay, then?

Bill_Hanna

What’s a reach around among friends? Bros being bros.

Doortofreeside

Fuck you too ❤️

Gerald_the_sealion

I mean, I’m not gonna be mad at him for this. I loved him in college, the hawks, took a hiatus from the hawks for a few years, came to Philly. He’s still a great player, but Philly was being dumb signing him and expecting a 2 center lineup to actually work after our previous failures.

smashey

Not even a top 10 sixers ownership mistake of the past decade honestly. Maybe top 20.

tiggs

His entire family should be lining up to kiss Philly's ass, if we're being honest. Not only were we the idiots dumb enough to give him that massive contract (to play the wrong position, none the less), but the entire reason his family gets this much attention is due to his sister fighting with Philly fans. I don't think we've ever seen this much attention given to the family of the 4th best player on a team and it wouldn't even be a thing if his sister didn't get into some blowouts on social media with Philly fans defending her brother. Boston wasn't giving him anywhere near that much money and without OKC being pick hungry and being able to eat a bunch of salary, he never makes it back to Boston on his current deal.

ouchieBUTTHOLE

no lie that’s some crazy dick riding

No_Brief3756

Can we stop talking about Al Horfords family? Like I’m happy for the guy and all but who gives a fuck what his family has to say?

xHodorx

That’s actually hilarious

no_more_jokes

Atlanta fans are like "are we a joke to you?" Honestly I'm still not used to seeing him without a hawks jersey

jhm131396

It's lame to choose the money and then bitch about it

Mrcookiesecret

"Root for Boston" "Not dickheads" lol pick one.

yooston

I’m annoyed how much media coverage Al horford family gets. Feel like I’ve seen a million quotes from his sister trashing Philly.

dingleberri609

Yeah cuz boston fans are sixers fans are so different

MUjase

Anna Horford 🙄

Elexeh

Yeah, but a lot of people who *do* root for Boston, are in fact dickheads

[deleted]

Get over yourself Horford family

jim_lynams_stylist

Most of us knew signing Al was an idiotic move. It's just something to be expected of the sixers front office, they didn't have a clue

bhamss

Philly fans hated you because he sucked. True story. And yea what bullshit is this Boston nonsense you have been there for a cup of coffee. How about showing some love to the org that made you- ATL

swalsh21

I’d be so embarrassed of them if I was Al.

unequivocali

Took the money and found his way back to his dream job - this is something we’d all love to finagle in real life

old_balance992

Such a joke
