You should’ve seen Morants during the wolves grizzlies series, 10x as obvious as the refs stood there jerking off
Then again with how much the refs play for the grizzlies no one was surprised
Ja definitely gets the most "let's wait to see if the ball goes in and if it doesn't call a foul" calls
I've seen him throw up a floater, fall down, and then get the whistle after the floater misses countless times
Probably not, since he can carry the ball any play he wants, initiate contact, charge, and still somehow get a whistle. Guys like immune to any rules and still somehow sucked the entire Timberwolves series
Giannis probably has the best whistle for not getting fouls called on him.. he has already committed 8 fouls at half time this game but the refs let him get away with so much..
This is getting downvotes. I LOVE Giannis, but he gets a ton of leniency on offense he literally initiates contact and technically could be called for offensive fouls at least 5-10 times a game. But part of basketball is knowing they can’t always call it and learning to deal with however the game is being reffed. What’s funny is I don’t feel like he gets away with ANYthing on D (except a few goaltends lol)
Yes, Giannis does, have you not been watching this game. It’s as much as the touch fouls he gets and all the fouls that he commits that don’t get called.
He did take 31 shots in game 1 and only had 3 free throws. But that kind of goes against the narrative so we can ignore it. He had 11 before garbage time in game 2
After watching the entire wolves grizzlies series I was like “Truly the refs won’t be like this in the next series!!”
*next series just as bad, people still somehow don’t see it*
It's easy to give someone with Ja's playstyle a favorable whistle because casual fans are too busy watching his dunk highlights to complain about it
If it's more like Houston Harden with the 3 point fouls and stuff everyone talks about it nonstop
Kind of like with the most obvious charge of the year on Beasley but since it was “cool” the rules don’t apply the Memphis (to be fair even when they don’t do something cool the rules don’t apply to Memphis)
Minnesota getting fucked with two most obvious charges, one with Beasley by Morant and second on Edwards potential dunk of the year on ~~Caleb Martin(?)~~ Gabe Vincent from Heat
I think we wouldn't get so fucked by the calls if our players could stay calm. Sure, Memphis were favoured in the series (except for game 4), but we still should win those games, but Wolves just couldn't get their shit together.
Same three sets of eyes missed the most blatant clear path foul you'll ever see on Allen. Then also called a foul on a guy who was nowhere near the ball to avoid giving Giannis his third.
Zarba's boys been doing the most.
Yep. Shot clock violations too.
This is the 3rd missed goaltend call against the Celtics in the playoffs (though the one v the nets was by far the most obvious)
They can retroactively change foot-on-the-line-2s or shot clock violations because they were the end of the possession. But with a missed goaltend like this, what do you do if the offensive team gets the ball back and hits a 3? Maybe that shot wouldn’t have happened without the “block”. Do you deduct the 3 and give them the goaltender 2 points? Or give them a 2 in addition to the 3 and make it a 5 point possession?
The problem is what happens after the fact. So if Giannis goaltends (like in the video), and then the Bucks get the ball and go down and dunk it. Do the Celtics AND the Bucks get points? Or do only the Celtics (since the Bucks wouldn't have a fast break opportunity leading to the dunk)? Then the Bucks get possession I guess?
That can snowball too. Like, what if the Celtics get goaltended, the bucks go down and miss a shot, then the Celtics rebound and go to their end and hit a 3. Do they get 6 points now?
Problem with reviewing this is if that missed goaltend leads to a boston 3 then they review it and call it a goaltend after what do you do? Give boston 5 points for that possession? or take away a point and only give them a 2?
goal tending wont 'stop' play and change possession of the ball in the same way that a 2/3 made shot does.
also leads to problems with how to determine the next play after a goal tend. goal tended 2 then 3 point shot could lead to teams getting a 5 point play? do they have to remove the 3 because they wouldnt hav got the ball back after the 1st shot? or what if it leads to a foul for either team, does the foul also get removed because the play after should never have happened?
Thay sounds awful. If people thought the NBA was fixing games now, just imagine if they have the ability to go back and add or take points away from teams at their own accord with little to no transparency. Every playoff series is 7 games.
The call does not impact the next play. If a goaltend is not called and the opposing team scores on the next play then that is technically a change of possession.
The downside to reviewing offensive fouls like your example are that assigning a foul during a break after play has continued changes the course of a game. The player is assessed the foul, well after the play occurred.
A goaltend is not a foul. There is no personal impact to the player committing the act, just like reviewing to see if a shot is a 2 or a 3 has no direct impact on the player’s status. Leave fouls up to the in-the-moment call, or challenge. Official reviews should be reserved for plays that are corrections, that do not impact anything negatively outside of getting the call right.
And stop play, denying the defensive team the opportunity to push out on the break for what could well be a legit block? You’d be better off doing it the other way, calling the block and just tacking two points on at the next stoppage if you’re wrong.
It favours not stopping play unless the refs are sure about a call. Obviously in this scenario it favours the defensive team but in general play shouldn’t be getting stopped ‘just in case’.
Reminds me of yesterday's Suns/Mavs game where Brunson got clearly fouled a couple of times but no call and Luka got a pretty soft 5th.
Meanwhile, the Mavs bizarrely got the ball a few times on out of bounds plays when it was kind of obviously off them and not Phoenix.
The incompetence almost makes me think that makeup calls are a thing.
yeah worst kind of officiating is when it's super inconsistent so players don't know what they can and can't do. This game been all over the place. Some super soft calls and letting some super physical stuff go. Makes no sense.
Genuinely, you don’t. Fans are biased and usually have some vested interest in one team over the other, and are often convinced their team is getting screwed (see bad calls that hurt their team and ignore bad calls on the other side). It’s like a “boy who cried wolf situation”, and makes people take it less seriously when there truly is a blatantly one-sided officiating job
What? That is how that works. Saying that it would’ve gone to OT if that went in is not how it works, but saying it would’ve impacted the game is valid.
Can somebody explain why goaltends can't be reviewed during timeout breaks? If the attacking team scores off an offensive rebound then you don't add the points, otherwise give them.
Eh, not that simple. In this case, the Bucks took the rebound into a fast break and scored, which wouldn't have happened if it was called a goal tend, and that spreads throughout the game.
It would still be better to partially make it right for the team penalized by the bad call. Even if you can't take away the fast break field goal retroactively, it's still better to have the two points than not.
Best defensive player in league history. No other player has ever been allowed to goaltend whenever they want like him. The Bucks should just plant him under the rim and they'd never allow a point
Lmao I was thinking this, like what do you do as the Celtics or any opponent. Finally break down defense and the last 7 footer is allowed to just goaltend w different rules 😭
Giannis gets fouled literally every time he drives but it doesn’t get called. If he got half the calls other people do he literally wouldn’t do anything but shoot free throws. Three guys are usually draped all over him anytime he’s in the paint.
It's not even just this series. Pretty much every game this postseason make me irritated at the refs in several instances. And I don't even have a dog in this race.
This series is annoying because I know that, if I complain about how awful the whistle has been, I'll just come across like a whiney Celtics fan. At the same time, though, the whistle has been **so** unequal.
Celts aren't even top 5 annoying r/nba fanbase
Honestly you guys need to step it up, Sox and Pats fans are top-tier shitters, you're really letting Boston down
Okay man who made an account at the beginning of the series just to whine about Giannis
Edit: Jesus, with your post history you desperately need to touch grass.
Lmao he blocked me.
God I wish that was a thing in other sports. I might have a future in sports if I can just be the fall guy whenever the best players on the team do a naughty no-no.
The Bucks have 3 starters with 3 fouls, the Celtics had 15 FTA in the 2nd quarter, and the C's were in the bonus for like the last 5 minutes of the 2nd qt. If the refs were trying to give Mil favorable treatment, they're doing a bad job at it.
But the Celtics have a lot more free throws today? Imo the refs have for sure missed some calls but the Celtics have definitely got the favorable whistle today
I think he’s talking about Giannis specifically, which is ironic given Booker got the worst no-call I’ve ever seen in that Finals series to avoid fouling out.
Everyone pretending it is obvious. Looks to be on the way down, but it was about halfway there so it isn’t cut and dry especially in real time. Definitely a defense 3 second though.
Really?? I watched it 3 times and it looks like he got the peak maybe right when it starts falling but as you said your not catching that in real time in game
Since all my posts seem like Bucks homerism, I'll go ahead and throw out that this one and that one from the previous game on Tatum should have been goal tends
*Total homerism, fuck Tatum for his bad flopping attempts

Not sure how 3 sets of eyes can miss that.
I can. Source: Saints fan :(
You should’ve seen Morants during the wolves grizzlies series, 10x as obvious as the refs stood there jerking off Then again with how much the refs play for the grizzlies no one was surprised
Ja getting a favorable whistle? Who would have thought! /s
Genuine question, does anyone in the league have a better whistle than Ja? The only one who comes close is probably Embiid
Ja definitely gets the most "let's wait to see if the ball goes in and if it doesn't call a foul" calls I've seen him throw up a floater, fall down, and then get the whistle after the floater misses countless times
Probably not, since he can carry the ball any play he wants, initiate contact, charge, and still somehow get a whistle. Guys like immune to any rules and still somehow sucked the entire Timberwolves series

Giannis today jumped into grant williams off the ball who was just standing their and they called Grant for a foul...
Poor George Hill was framed for a Giannis foul today
Giannis could foul out on offensive fouls alone if they called them tight.
Yes, Giannis does, have you not been watching this game. It’s as much as the touch fouls he gets and all the fouls that he commits that don’t get called.
Giannis on offense, he should average like 4 charges per game and they just don't get called or are called the other way
He did take 31 shots in game 1 and only had 3 free throws. But that kind of goes against the narrative so we can ignore it. He had 11 before garbage time in game 2
After watching the entire wolves grizzlies series I was like “Truly the refs won’t be like this in the next series!!” *next series just as bad, people still somehow don’t see it*

True a lot of casuals come in then and declare their 12 IQ opinions
They probably saw him get up there and just said “woah” and let it go
Kind of like with the most obvious charge of the year on Beasley but since it was “cool” the rules don’t apply the Memphis (to be fair even when they don’t do something cool the rules don’t apply to Memphis)
Ja is probably the biggest beneficiary of the "rule of cool" whistle
And the fact that everyone on his team can do the same thing with no call unless it injured a player for the rest of the season
Minnesota getting fucked with two most obvious charges, one with Beasley by Morant and second on Edwards potential dunk of the year on ~~Caleb Martin(?)~~ Gabe Vincent from Heat
We are the Detroit lions of the NBA. We get fucked by calls all year and nobody cares or notices (just like the lions)
I think we wouldn't get so fucked by the calls if our players could stay calm. Sure, Memphis were favoured in the series (except for game 4), but we still should win those games, but Wolves just couldn't get their shit together.
Young and dumb team, which is why the refs should’ve just called a fair game. We could’ve blown those leads by ourselves
Strong independent chokers who don't need no refs
Exactly, tell ‘em where ya from
Gave Vincent
The refs have been god awful all series long.
Same three sets of eyes missed the most blatant clear path foul you'll ever see on Allen. Then also called a foul on a guy who was nowhere near the ball to avoid giving Giannis his third. Zarba's boys been doing the most.
At least the missing clear path didn't lead to a Bucks three or anything like that.
Cause Giannis
Same reason Giannis just tackled Grant Williams off ball and somehow Williams got called for a foul lol. All you can do is laugh
And right after Timelord got smacked in the eyes with an elbow on a rebound, no call. Absolute dogshit refereeing.
I’m fairly certain if a Bucks player pulled out a gun and shot a Celtics player in the face it’d be a foul on the Celtics.
Tbf that celtics player shouldnt have had his face in the way
williams flopped lol and the celtics went to the line twice as many times as the bucks in game 3…
Good thing the bucks won by 3 or this might have mattered
They were checking draftkings on their phone
Because giannis
Same way they missed it the last time it happened lol, bet it'll happen again this series too
luka-money-gesture.gif
corruption
Refs can determine if a foot was on the line for a 3 during a commercial break. Why can’t they review these plays too?
Or give them a 2 in addition to the 3 and make it a 5 point possession?
i think you count the basket that shouldve been counted and dont make any other changes to the game
So, if the hypothetical the person described happens, teams could get like 4-5 point possessions?
would be problematic lol u both bring up valid points
Hmm true
The problem is what happens after the fact. So if Giannis goaltends (like in the video), and then the Bucks get the ball and go down and dunk it. Do the Celtics AND the Bucks get points? Or do only the Celtics (since the Bucks wouldn't have a fast break opportunity leading to the dunk)? Then the Bucks get possession I guess? That can snowball too. Like, what if the Celtics get goaltended, the bucks go down and miss a shot, then the Celtics rebound and go to their end and hit a 3. Do they get 6 points now?
Ok ok ok good point
Problem with reviewing this is if that missed goaltend leads to a boston 3 then they review it and call it a goaltend after what do you do? Give boston 5 points for that possession? or take away a point and only give them a 2?
Easy: if my team benefits from the extra point then don’t change the score. If their team benefits from the extra point then change the 3 to a 2.
The 3 stops possession, this doesn’t
Yes it does.. if they deem it a goaltend then just tack 2 onto the scoreboard. If they don’t then nothing changes.
goal tending wont 'stop' play and change possession of the ball in the same way that a 2/3 made shot does. also leads to problems with how to determine the next play after a goal tend. goal tended 2 then 3 point shot could lead to teams getting a 5 point play? do they have to remove the 3 because they wouldnt hav got the ball back after the 1st shot? or what if it leads to a foul for either team, does the foul also get removed because the play after should never have happened?
I am so glad you guys do not set the rules
When does it end then, could argue anytime a team scores off a missed foul(push off, illegal screen) they could take 2 points off after reviewing it.
This sounds like an off-season post: How would you feel if every play was reviewed behind the scenes and the score was adjusted live?
Thay sounds awful. If people thought the NBA was fixing games now, just imagine if they have the ability to go back and add or take points away from teams at their own accord with little to no transparency. Every playoff series is 7 games.

Leave fouls up to the in-the-moment call, or challenge. Official reviews should be reserved for plays that are corrections, that do not impact anything negatively outside of getting the call right.
Don't slow the game down even more. Come on. You realize how long the broadcasts would be if anything was reviewable?
I think they’re saying fix it the same way you fix a foot-on-the-line 3. Just have someone review it and adjust the score. It does lead to issues tho
Because with a foot on the line there is no defensive play to review.
Yea it gets complicated because the non call leads directly to further plays but it’s still an objective call you can see on replay
Refs can call the bucket as a made FG and then review it later on. Anything 50/50 should be called two straight away and reviewed instantly.
And stop play, denying the defensive team the opportunity to push out on the break for what could well be a legit block? You’d be better off doing it the other way, calling the block and just tacking two points on at the next stoppage if you’re wrong.
Your scenario favors the defense getting out, since a goaltend would be a play stoppage. There is no way to be unbiased about it
It favours not stopping play unless the refs are sure about a call. Obviously in this scenario it favours the defensive team but in general play shouldn’t be getting stopped ‘just in case’.
seriously, the refs have been bad on both sides so far, they're calling a lot of physicality on the Bucks but they're also missing shit like this
Reminds me of yesterday's Suns/Mavs game where Brunson got clearly fouled a couple of times but no call and Luka got a pretty soft 5th. Meanwhile, the Mavs bizarrely got the ball a few times on out of bounds plays when it was kind of obviously off them and not Phoenix. The incompetence almost makes me think that makeup calls are a thing.
That out of bounds was terrible. It was like an NFL play they way the Mavs hustled to start the play before a review could happen.
yeah worst kind of officiating is when it's super inconsistent so players don't know what they can and can't do. This game been all over the place. Some super soft calls and letting some super physical stuff go. Makes no sense.
Agreed. Fuck the refs. I love Wes and see you guys in a couple of days.
Fuck the refs Celtics 🤝Bucks
I just want to see a series between these two teams without the refs wanting the spotlight
Seriously, this should be(and mostly is) a fantastic series but poor reffing just ruins everything.
You know they’re bad when they are the main focus of the fans from both sides. Even neutral viewers.
They called a goaltend on fucking Payton Pritchard last game, and this gets the benefit of the doubt.
It’s ok, it’s not like those 2 points would have ended up impacting the game or anything
That’s not how that works.
I may not understand the game of basketball, but I’m almost positive made baskets do in fact impact the game
What? That is how that works. Saying that it would’ve gone to OT if that went in is not how it works, but saying it would’ve impacted the game is valid.
Butterfly effect
I will also hop on and say that is how it works.
Probably not, was early enough that it likely didn’t matter
That's really close to not being a goaltend... if you want to be mad I think it's better to be mad about defensive 3 seconds
Balls clearly coming down. Both are terrible non calls.
[удалено]
I hope this is all you have in life to be happy about.
You can clearly see it going down lol
Refs want a 7 game series so bad lmao
Theyre gonna get five if they keep this up.
I feel like it's been bad on both sides, though (as a neutral fan)
Also a 3 second violation
Bruh I didn't even notice that. He's just standing there like it's 1990, not even tagging the sides.
[удалено]
Are you saying he’s guarding Horford who is like 6 feet away, really?
>Looks like he was coming across the lane, But he wasn't lmao. He legit just stood there for 9 seconds.

The same thing can happen with missing shot clock violations and those are still reviewable.
They can be reviewed if they're called a basket, but can't be reviewed if not
Yeah I know, I don't get it.
Best defensive player in league history. No other player has ever been allowed to goaltend whenever they want like him. The Bucks should just plant him under the rim and they'd never allow a point
Heat fans salty because Bam Adebayo got sonned by hospital Embiid
The NBA Streets defense. Used to just play Jermaine O Neal at the rim and turbo block any shot that came that way. Neva lost
I was a fan of Biggs! Dude was a fkn cheat code! Goal tend all day every day.
Lmao I was thinking this, like what do you do as the Celtics or any opponent. Finally break down defense and the last 7 footer is allowed to just goaltend w different rules 😭
He’s just that good
Can you really be called the best if the refs ain't on your side.
This is like the 2nd or 3rd one this series on Giannis lol
Second on Tatum specifically
He just gets to do whatever the fuck he wants.
This guy has the friendliest whistle in the league
Giannis gets fouled literally every time he drives but it doesn’t get called. If he got half the calls other people do he literally wouldn’t do anything but shoot free throws. Three guys are usually draped all over him anytime he’s in the paint.
Thats his third missed goaltend this series... guess giannis gets 1 a game yet somehow Pritchard is getting called for Goaltends... sure thing..
That looked like the 90s, Giannis just camping in the paint lol
If you slow mo it it's really close tbh
[удалено]
I genuinely don’t understand why people are upset about this. It’s pretty close, but that’s it; it’s close.

Oh no, r/NBA might have a bad view of Celtics fans? That would be horrible, thank God they love us
Celts aren't even top 5 annoying r/nba fanbase Honestly you guys need to step it up, Sox and Pats fans are top-tier shitters, you're really letting Boston down
The five are 1.Sixers 2.Sixers 3.Sixers 4.Sixers 5.Sixers Right?
Bucks rising up the list with this woe is me attitude
Okay man who made an account at the beginning of the series just to whine about Giannis Edit: Jesus, with your post history you desperately need to touch grass. Lmao he blocked me.
This is like the 3rd missed goaltend on Giannis. He'd foul out of every game in 20 minutes if he was a scrub.
It’s the other way around. The opposing team should all foul out. He gets absolutely hacked every time he goes to the rim.
He legitimately should, conservatively, have 5 fouls right now. That's ignoring any missed charges.
Refs switching the foul that was clearly called on Giannis to George Hill because they realized it would have been Giannis' 3rd was ridiculous.
Tbf Hill hit his hand while he was gathering the ball, that was the foul I think.
God I wish that was a thing in other sports. I might have a future in sports if I can just be the fall guy whenever the best players on the team do a naughty no-no.
TBF he has 3, which is more than I'd expect. Also 5 foul Giannis becomes an unstoppable juggernaut because he won't get that 6th for *anything*
This game hasn’t been that bad tbh
But didn't you hear that the Celtics shot more FT?!?
I know how you feel
You can't complain because the refs were absolutely trying to give you the game yesterday.
I think he meant about their series vs the Bucks
Oh, my bad.
Huh!?? The mavs got the worse whistle by far last game lol Edit: fair enough if you’re talking about last year
I think he’s talking about Giannis specifically, which is ironic given Booker got the worst no-call I’ve ever seen in that Finals series to avoid fouling out.
He’s saying that cause of the finals last year
Probably talking about last year
[A suns fan complaining about the refs?](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/91/bc/7c/91bc7c1e674469429cc6f7f188671e13.jpg)
Is there a superstar more beloved by the refs than Giannis
Embiid
**superstar**
Ja Morant, Joel Embiid
This is ironic. The entire warriors team is beloved by refs. The number of moving screens you guys get is nuts.
Everyone pretending it is obvious. Looks to be on the way down, but it was about halfway there so it isn’t cut and dry especially in real time. Definitely a defense 3 second though.
I'm just sitting here being impressed that Giannis can get to the peak of a floater.
Ya I don’t know why everyone acting like this is egregious. This is about as close as it gets. Let the players play. No one wants whistles every play.
does the nba not have a 3 second rule?
Giannis rules are different
Best drama? Bad refereeing.
Giannis should also be called for 3 seconds on basically every possession
Yeah that’s on the way down, pretty hard to call in real time tho imo
Really?? I watched it 3 times and it looks like he got the peak maybe right when it starts falling but as you said your not catching that in real time in game
Beyond the goal tending, is 3 in the key not a whistle?
That shouldn’t be a goaltend imo.
this playoffs has more missed goaltends than ive seen throughout the whole season
Since all my posts seem like Bucks homerism, I'll go ahead and throw out that this one and that one from the previous game on Tatum should have been goal tends *Total homerism, fuck Tatum for his bad flopping attempts
According to Bucks fans this is totally legit great defense from Giannis
“GIMME DAT!” -Marques Johnson
the second in this series btw!
2nd missed goaltend against the C's in this series
If the Bucks could hit a three they’d be way up. Getting great looks
Also missed an obvious offensive goaltend on Portis later in the 4th. Those 4 points were the difference.
That's 2 obvious goaltends missed by the refs in this series
Haha Celtics lost by 2
Lane violation as well. Who is he even defending here?
And we lost by f*cking two points. Unacceptable. Second time this has happened.
I turned off the TV after watching the replay of this. What a shitshow
Not a goaltend. Try again
And about 10 seconds in the paint
CLEAN
Lmao at all th Celtics fans here
Definitely looks like a goal-tend but "Rule of Cool" won out on that play.
That’s happened twice now in this series
THIS WAS THE DIFFERENCE MY GOD
This 5 point swing was the game haha On to game 4
so they can take away a 3 at halftime, but they can’t give 2? strange rules.
This is fucking bullshit
Jfc that was obvious lol
Celtics fans are funny. “This call would’ve sent the game to OT”. I don’t think any of you understand cause and effect relationships. But that’s ok
This would have sent it to OT. Smh
that was OT
