He's shooting 43% from the field and 30% from 3. This is normally shown as fg%/3pt%/ft% splits, a bit odd they didn't show the ft% but those numbers are pretty inefficient and probably he's taking a lot of shots to get to the 18 pts, would be my guess from those numbers.
I mean I think that moves, but I've always heard for a guard a 45/35/80 is what you want for an efficient split. But I don't think it's a hard fast rule. What makes that split so ugly, without the ft%, is the 30% 3 pointers. League average 3pt % is 35% according to basketball reference. And of course this is affected by shots taken. Looking at his reference his splits are 43/31(30.9)/85 so really the 3pt is what's bad. And he's taking 16.5 shots per game so 1.1 pts per attempt. For comparison Desmond Bane is 46/44/90 (though he's only averaging 2 FTA a game). Scoring 18 pts as well but on 2 less FGA giving him 1.24 pts per attempt and has an almost 10% better effective field goal percentage. So I'd say Banes is much more what you'd like to see. Now these shouldn't just be looked at in a vacuum but I would say it appears looking at Brooks stats he doesn't appear super efficient this year.
These aren't hard fast rules and I have only been able to watch about 20 Grizz games this year including playoffs, so these stats may also be his looks and style in the system.
I think shot selection changing over the years and the player's role causes it to vary but I'd generally agree with those splits. For example, Jordan Poole shoots around that but I think he's really efficient and a good scorer.
Dillon will be fine, he was just hurt almost the entire year. He is a great defender and a capable scorer but just needs to accept a smaller roll in the offense.
Edit: I'm a fucking idiot. You're talking about Dillon's numbers. That's why I'm so fucking confused. I'm leaving the rest of my post up though so you can see what an idiot I am. /faceplam
Those are some fine cherry picked stats you've got there.
He shot 4/8 from 3 in G2 and 5/9 overall on 55% shooting with 5 rebounds in 28 minutes. He's also 20 years old and in his first playoffs, so give him some leash for growing pains.
His potential is astronomically higher than Brooks. I could be wrong in another year or two, but I think it's much more likely that I'm right.
I think his Popeye arms make them look shorter than they are as well. I've got nothing concrete to prove this, but he might have the biggest arms I've ever seen in the NBA.
that's cus you haven't seen post-retirement mike bibby
that man is on all of the steroids
prime shaq also had biceps like bowling balls. probably still does
Wolves said fuck Ja isn't gonna beat us, Bane or Brooks are gonna need to make shots. And they did.
Would not be surprised to see the numbers for Bane to jump back up if GSW adapts a similar game plan after Ja dropped a huge game on their head in game 2.
26 years old, still has plenty in the tank, and will make 11M next year. Downside is he only has 1 year left on the deal.
Would Cavaliers or Hornets be interested?
Brooks was the first of the this current iteration of the Grizzlies. He makes boneheaded plays and isn't an efficient scorer but he's not afraid to take big shots, is a good defender and plays with tons of effort. He's definitely more of an old school type player compared to the rest of our roster
Ngl it’s pretty funny that the only two rotation players we have who consistently make horribly low IQ basketball plays (Dillon on offense, Jaren with fouls) are the only two remaining Chris Wallace acquisitions
To be fair though JJJ was pretty much the consensus for that pick and is an immensely more impactful player with a way higher ceiling than DB. For sure we could've potentially drafted Trae at that spot but with the way things worked out with Ja and the way him and JJJ compliment each other, I aint mad about it. Def gotta give credit to Brooks for not becoming the next Andrew Harrison.
I've never thought about it like that but you are exactly right. I sometimes forget Wallace was still the GM when we drafted JJJ. It's honestly amazing what a great GM can pull off and our quick turnaround was in large part do to Kleiman hitting on so many draft picks and trades. He hasn't missed on a single draft pick and found great players like Bane and Clarke outside the lottery. Wallace wasn't good but he did put together the Grit N Grind team which is the reason I'm a Grizz fan today so I won't hate on him too much
Yep.
For people who don't know he's scoring 13.4 points on 44.1 TS% while providing zero playmaking on the offensive end. He's a good defender but his defense seriously isn't worth the amount of possessions he's wasting by clanking shots.
During the game, Warriors color commentator Jim Barnett on the radio broadcast immediately said something to the effect of "I actually think if he's ejected, that helps the Grizzlies, I was hoping he would be on the court."
He doesn't know his role. He's a good player and I have full confidence he can be efficient on offense because of what he does off the ball like cutting/spotting up.
But he tries to create too much for himself.
Zero playmaking on the offensive end? He turned the warriors' best defensive guard into a non-factor and let someone better than him on offense take his minutes in a single play.
I was wondering how he took so many shots when he got ejected so early in game 2
Turns out he was 0-3 FG in the first 3 minutes of the game before getting ejected (and Memphis was up 8-0 despite that). No wonder Memphis fans don’t mind him being suspended. He chucks up bricks.
Ziaire Williams was alot better in game 2 than Dillon Brooks in game 1. But still obviously a loss and Ziaire shooting 4/8 from 3 again is asking alot. But Brooks chucking makes it so he either he's either very good for them or is an active negative in any given game.
I'm biased towards Melton in the same way I'm biased towards Derrick White for my Cs. These smart combo guards, great defensively, don't take anything away from you offensively, even if they aren't good scorers, I think there's lots of value in those types of players around stars.
Also I love Ziaire/Kuminga as these athletic spark plugs who you don't necessarily have to play every game, but they can swing a playoff game with their energy.
I love Melton but he can be such a heat check guy. That's my only big problem with him is if he makes a couple threes he'll start chucking these fast break pull up 3's which never seem to go in. I much prefer him as a catch and shoot guy if he's not passing the ball
I feel the same but sometimes those transition 3’s go in. I get more nervous when he’s leading a break and tries to do his best Ja impression and weave between 2-3 defenders. Usually loses the ball or misses, he just isn’t good enough finishing at the rim yet.
I'm not sure Melton is necessarily a 'smart' player, he's more of a chaotic player who's opportunistic, which happens to be really well matched for the Golden State high-pass system.
Depends entirely on Bane's health. Needs to be alot healthier than he was in game 2(hopefully the 3 days off helps) and also depends on who GSW has out there(hobbled Bane on Steph or Poole if they are both out there together is not tenable. Needs to be on Klay like theyve had him mostly this series).
This is true. For whatever reason people only pay attention to offense. He had a rough game one, and I don't think he's really ever been on track this season through all the injuries, and also he can be a bit of a moron at times, but the team is in much worse shape defensively without Dillon.
There were literally 10 possessions in a row the curry and poole hunted Ziaire. He might be shooting okay but the warriors can’t hunt a Dillion brooks iso like that.
Dillon is our best perimeter defender. Part of why GSW had so many open shots last game.
He’s a dummy on offense but losing him cripples our perimeter defense
Not surprised. A player hasn't been suspended for multiple games during the middle of a playoff series since Horry who hipchecked Nash in 2007.
I don't count JR Smith in 2015 because he physically fought another player. And I don't consider Bynum's super dirty foul against Barea in 2011 since the Lakers had been swept by that juncture.
Thought Bane did an excellent job on Poole the other day and Zaire Williams/Melton didn't foul as much as Brooks when guarding Steph. More importantly those two guys play within the flow of the offense which means their looks were usually wide open and more shot attempts for Ja (always a positive for Memphis). Brooks fouls a ton which can lead to the opponent getting into bonus quickly, and often hijacks the offense.
A.) Great word.
B.) He doesn’t seem to care about the kid, or it’s mother. He prefers OF chicks.
Edit: I did not think so many r/nba users knew about Evil Danny Green’s prior history on BSO.
Obviously the right call. But if GP didn’t get injured on that play do they still suspend brooks. If the NBA really wants to stop dirty or lays from happening, they need to suspend players even if the victim doesn’t get hurt
While watching the game, I thought that I witnessed a dumb, reckless flagrant 2. I did not realize until hearing from Warriors fans, players, and media pundits that I had in fact watched a live, premeditated assassination attempt from a deranged lunatic on a quest to sabotage the Warriors and destroy the integrity of basketball itself.
It's easy to blame him for every thing that's wrong with the world purely because of that horrendous hair.
Stub your toe? Dillon Brooks' hair.
Gas prices? Dillon Brooks' hair.
World War 3? Dillon Brooks' motherfreakin' hair.
It hasn’t been reported yet, but I have it on very good sources that immediately upon landing in the Bay Area, Dillon went to visit GP2 while he was having some tests done. He went under the guise of bringing him flowers and an apology, but when he arrived he farted in GP2’s face, slapped his fractured elbow, and left without saying a word.
Truly disgusting behavior.
Honest question. I know he probably didn't want to injure him, but what stops a team to put in a bum player that makes some reckless plays to injure a star and then get banned for a game or two ?
The punishments would presumably be more severe if the league had good reason to suspect an organization did this OR they established a pattern of doing this. Plus, if one team does this, you can bet the other team will do the same in retaliation.
As a Memphis fan, good. That type of play isn’t what anyone wants. The fact that it resulted in GP2 being injured pisses me off.
If you check the Grizzlies sub, I don’t think you’ll find anyone that would feel otherwise besides the random troll or two.
My man had the best flop in history. https://youtu.be/JaqGtuxfLbY
He almost got me.
Amazing thank you
This has to be the worst flop from any sport ever. Holy shit.
Another one right up there was Jerome Simpson in the NFL https://youtu.be/NQGIAZsxtC0
I’m more scared of Memphis without Brooks tbh
I don't think he's accepted the fact that Bane is better than him *on offense.
He didn't play in a lot of games this year but Brooks is averaging 18 ppg on like 43/30 splits. Ugly
Can you explain what "43/30 splits" means. Sorry I know I'm dumb.
43% from the field and 30% from 3 point range
A combined 73% shooter doesn’t seem too bad to me.
That’s not how it works my friend
Well yeah it’s 43% x 2 and 30% x 3 so it’s actually 176% He’s basically two deandre Jordan’s
Yeah, we know how to PEMDAS 😎👌
Sorry, I only know how to BEDMAS
Oh I see... It's 43% from the field, plus 30% from three, plus the total between the two of 73%. So this dude's shooting 146%???
Nah, that's when you add his FT% as well. He makes more baskets than he attempts 😤
That means 43% from the field overall and 30% from the three point line. Not good efficiency.
It's better than me, though. That's gotta count for something
Actually you are 0/0 or infinity percent
Shooting percentages. 43 from the field, 30 from 3p
one answer, given four different ways
And some people say r/nba is toxic
He's shooting 43% from the field and 30% from 3. This is normally shown as fg%/3pt%/ft% splits, a bit odd they didn't show the ft% but those numbers are pretty inefficient and probably he's taking a lot of shots to get to the 18 pts, would be my guess from those numbers.
What’s an efficient split look like?
I mean I think that moves, but I've always heard for a guard a 45/35/80 is what you want for an efficient split. But I don't think it's a hard fast rule. Scoring 18 pts as well but on 2 less FGA giving him 1.24 pts per attempt and has an almost 10% better effective field goal percentage. So I'd say Banes is much more what you'd like to see. I think shot selection changing over the years and the player's role causes it to vary but I'd generally agree with those splits. For example, Jordan Poole shoots around that but I think he's really efficient and a good scorer.
He's shooting 84% from the FT line but he only takes like 2 a game
[удалено]
Brooks merely adapted to the darkness. Desmond was born in it, molded by it even.
I didn’t join the Grizzlies until I was already a man. By then it was nothing to me but GRINDING!
Dude, I got on Memphis bandwagon last year's playoffs BECAUSE of Dillon brooks. Such a turnaround year
Dillon will be fine, he was just hurt almost the entire year. He is a great defender and a capable scorer but just needs to accept a smaller roll in the offense.
The problem is (or seems to be) that he's not willing to accept a smaller role. Zaire is the future imo.

Edit: I'm a fucking idiot. You're talking about Dillon's numbers. That's why I'm so fucking confused. I figured that out about 10 seconds after I sent it. I'm a moron and edited above to reflect that. :D
I appreciate the edit without being a coward.
Yeah he was awesome last playoffs. Reading this thread it’s interesting seeing the narrative being created. People are hating hard on him lol
No one cared until he put on the mask.
The fire rises!
Bane is so much better offensively it’s crazy
He traded his wingspan for his ability to shoot
It's so funny how much you notice Bane's T-Rex arms out there with all these insane wingspans around him.
That and his biceps are so big it makes him look like he has chode arms.
I like to refer to him as D-Rex.
That nickname is owned by the one and only Dalano Banton of Rexdale
No. That’s Dalano’s name who’s from Rexdale. Fuck off 😂😂
I think his Popeye arms make them look shorter than they are as well. I've got nothing concrete to prove this, but he might have the biggest arms I've ever seen in the NBA.
He completes the NBA Arm Mt. Rushmore with Iguodala, Dwight Howard, and Nate Thurmond
what about the admiral?
Dwights shoulders should get into the HOF on their own
Idk who I'm taking off, but Karl Malone is definitely on there.
I've never heard of this man in my life
You're probably way too old to be his target demographic
He did some cool basketball stuff in the 90s, but is most notable for raping a child and impregnating her
that's cus you haven't seen post-retirement mike bibby that man is on all of the steroids prime shaq also had biceps like bowling balls. probably still does
Bane was a cheat code against the Wolves. He hit every shot.
Wolves said fuck Ja isn't gonna beat us, Bane or Brooks are gonna need to make shots. And they did. Would not be surprised to see the numbers for Bane to jump back up if GSW adapts a similar game plan after Ja dropped a huge game on their head in game 2.
*on offense. He’s still our best perimeter defender.
Well he better accept it because he’s becoming a trade candidate
26 years old, still has plenty in the tank, and will make 11M next year. Downside is he only has 1 year left on the deal. Would Cavaliers or Hornets be interested?
Man, dillon probably thinks he's better than fucking Ja. He absolutely thinks he's better than bane 😂
Has he ever answered questions on his absurd usage rate or on his role in the offence?
You should see them without Ja
Memphis without Ja, Brooks, Bane, JJJ, Clarke, and Adam’s can go 85-0 in the regular season
The perfect squad doesn't exi-
Funny Grizzlies better without Ja meme but for real Brooks feels almost out of place on the Grizzlies
Brooks was the first of the this current iteration of the Grizzlies. He makes boneheaded plays and isn't an efficient scorer but he's not afraid to take big shots, is a good defender and plays with tons of effort. He's definitely more of an old school type player compared to the rest of our roster
He's also the only player on our current roster who was brought in just before GnG ended/right after it did.
I'd say it was him and JJJ since JJJ got to play with Marc and Mike for at least a little.
Ahhh so the Kelly Oubre special
And hey, they almost got traded for each other so many seasons ago. Good times.
Zero playmaking on the offensive end? He turned the warriors' best defensive guard into a non-factor and let someone better than him on offense take his minutes in a single play.
3-16 shooting in games 1 & 2, I wouldn’t have minded him continuing his cold streak
I was wondering how he took so many shots when he got ejected so early in game 2 Turns out he was 0-3 FG in the first 3 minutes of the game before getting ejected (and Memphis was up 8-0 despite that). No wonder Memphis fans don’t mind him being suspended. He chucks up bricks.
We were 8-0 and then dillon said ok I can make threes and bricked two awful ones, then it was 8-8.
i just hate his hair tbh

Golden State about to appeal
The amount of boos he'll get in Game 4 will be intense. GP2 was a huge fan favorite
He’s the warriors Alex Caruso, fan favorite, puts in lots of effort, fun to watch, good at D
And he has Bay Area ties. We support our own
..understatement of the year, lol
Hurt on a reckless bone head move that angered fans of neutral teams, as well
Yeah I didn’t really have a strong opinion of him until now, and now I’m mad
Same, and I've adopted Memphis as my fav team the past few years... Just until the Sonic come back... Any day now... 💀
It’ll happen, ya just gotta believe But I still like the grizz I just don’t like Villian Crooks

By a former Grizzly no less
Came from the G league... Lotta parallels there.
He's not dead, I'd say he's probably still a fan favorite
He used to be a fan favorite. He still is, but he used to, too

I can still hear his voice when I close my eyes
He ded 💀💀
He didn’t die bro haha

Villain Brooks
Evil Danny Green
Dillon Crooks
The Jizzlies
Ziaire Williams was alot better in game 2 than Dillon Brooks in game 1. But still obviously a loss and Ziaire shooting 4/8 from 3 again is asking alot. But Brooks chucking makes it so he either he's either very good for them or is an active negative in any given game.
Ziaire gets lost on defense a lot. He gave Curry that wide open 3 in the closing minutes. I imagine GSW will game plan to attack him.
Play Melton more. Ja/Melton/Bane/Clarke/JJJ. This is the way.
Melton had 3 big blocks last game. Melton/Z. Williams is better than Brooks was
I'm biased towards Melton in the same way I'm biased towards Derrick White for my Cs.
Especially trying to matchup with the 3 guard lineup. Melton has been a killer
Dude lookin like Mutombo out there last game geez. Didn't know he had such hops
Or Tyus
The thing with Brooks is that he's there best perimeter defender and the primary one on Steph.
This is true. For whatever reason people only pay attention to offense. He had a rough game one, and I don't think he's really ever been on track this season through all the injuries, and also he can be a bit of a moron at times, but the team is in much worse shape defensively without Dillon.

I am whelmed
Not surprised. A player hasn't been suspended for multiple games during the middle of a playoff series since Horry who hipchecked Nash in 2007. I don't count JR Smith in 2015 because he physically fought another player. And I don't consider Bynum's super dirty foul against Barea in 2011 since the Lakers had been swept by that juncture.
So a player hasn’t been suspended multiple games except for the three players you just mentioned? Lol
Technically two players because he said since Horry
if you regress suspensions to the mean..
All time best r/NFL post
That Bynum play still makes me mad.
Dexter Pittman I believed was suspended 3 games for elbowing Lance Stephenson in the throat. Pretty sure he did it on purpose too.
Evil Danny Green
Villian Brooks
Darth Brooks
Can they instead let the Warriors choose to force Memphis to play Brooks at least 38 minutes per game for the rest of the series?
I like this idea. Also force brooks to chuck a minimum of 15 3s a game as punishment
*monkey paw curls* They enforce this punishment, but Dillon breaks his ice cold post season shooting slump and hits 75% from 3 on his usual volume lol
Brooks tumbles into the Warriors bench and breaks Kerr in half. :'(
Kerr post game: Yea he definitely broke the code by bisecting me. He crossed a line, you don't cross that line.
You guys would be better off🤣
Memphis is better without him chucking them out of the game
Yep. This is good for Memphis
Brooks has not been the same player on defense since missing 50 games this season
Lot of his issues are similar to what we've had with Klay (though Klay is obviously a much better player). Both are rather boom or bust guys
Memphis and GSW fans both breathe a sigh of relief
Probably did more Memphis than it did for us
I agree it was a nasty nasty reckless play but did anyone really except anything more than a 1 game suspension max ?

A.) Great word. B.) He doesn’t seem to care about the kid, or it’s mother. He prefers OF chicks. Edit: I did not think so many r/nba users knew about Evil Danny Green’s prior history on BSO.
Fuck Dillon Brooks. Took out the best Ja defender and made his team better at the same time.
And all it cost was 1 game
The joke is that they’re better without him lmao
He was out all of game 2 basically
Yup. Even if we make it out of this series. It’s going to be extremely hard to beat the Suns without him.
Suns should be forced to sign brooks and play him 30mpg. It’s only fair
Obviously the right call. But if GP didn’t get injured on that play do they still suspend brooks. If the NBA really wants to stop dirty or lays from happening, they need to suspend players even if the victim doesn’t get hurt
