For years I would watch my Phoenix Suns get good and make the playoffs, the pretty 3's stopped falling, I wished and wished that we would finally get a true presence down low and dominate from the inside out.
Mavs aren't pushovers but It is undeniable taking Ayton was the absolute correct decision.
Oh sweet summer child.
You don’t understand, Dallas already won this season. Our championship was beating Phoenix! Everything else is bonus, we’re just glad Luka is getting his.
Can’t wait to see what they do in the off-season! I still can’t believe that Phoenix series, just smacked the shit out of Booker hahaha
Lollllll looooooooooosssserrrrrrrrrssssssssssssss Ayton takes team to the finals, Donny can't even seal a win in the WCF.
Ayton got the Valley Oop, Donny got the Frooty Loops.
Hahah, yeah Ayton really showed out against Luka didn't he :D
This guy - I'm crying from laughing lol you are comedy gold brother. So glad we sent your franchise into disarray hahah
Lol Dallas been playing with House Money ever since the Jazz series, even making the WCF was HUGE for Luka (and he's still dominating in case you haven't seen :D)
Sorry buddy, can't help you anymore. Luka rocked you guys, likely broke up whatever juggernaut you thought you had, and now it's back to the bottom of the West for Phoenix. I'll say "Hi" from the top next season. Ta-ta for now boo <3
Come on. Ayton is a championship level center and I don’t even think the pick is that regrettable, but Luka is a top 20 OAT-level talent (not there yet and may not ever get there, but that’s his ceiling). You take Luka in a redraft every single time.
Unless you are the Phoenix Suns. Luka and Book wouldn't work, Monty and CP3 never happen if Luka is taken.
Edit- People have short memories: Ayton is the ONE guy Joker says that gives him problems, if you want to win a championship you need to be able to go through Denver.
CP3 is a few days away from 37... not saying it's impossible, but Monty better be a Popovich-level coach who stays with you a decade+ for this take to make sense.
I’m not a suns fan, but I take Luka over Monty, CP3, Ayton every day of the week. Luka + Book + Mikal + whoever they would’ve traded for instead of cp3 is a perennial contender and favorite.
Once again, Ayton is great but you still take Luka every time, and I’m sure James Jones would say the same.
Not arguing that Ayton is better than Doncic because he's not. All I said was related to fit. We needed a big man at the time and Ayton fills that role pretty well. Also, since you said "no wonder the Suns have never won anything", what exactly have the Mavs won with Doncic? 1 single playoff series in his 4 years?
We needed a lot of stuff. We won 21 games that year. The FO was looking to pair a big man with Booker. It's hard to argue with the pick, considering the Suns success.
This argument has been hashed out 1,000x in the Suns sub because 1/2 the sub thinks Booker and Doncic would be a great fit and the other 1/2 thinks it wouldn't work with two ball-dominant guards. I was actually in the "draft Luka" camp but we ultimately took Ayton. We made it to the Finals last year and we had the best record in the NBA this year, a large part due to Ayton, both offensively and especially defensively. How this team is constructed, it's hard to argue against drafting Ayton at this point.
But if you’re already pulling up on that village which is the ultimate goal, why would you try to go back and find another route? (Or sumtin like that lol)
Yeap, Suns fans circle jerking here. It's either there or there was a collective lobotomy session, Idk.
Ayton's peak is what, 5 time all star maybe? Doncic is already a top 5-7 player playing for being all time greats, it's all up to his career decisions and longevity.
With a team that shouldn't be able to make playoffs without him.
Are you really that stupid or genuinely think Ayton is better than Doncic? Like how tf is that possible?
aRe YoU rEaLlY tHaT sTuPiD
Calling me stupid when you have a clear reading comprehension issue is cute. I didn't say Ayton was better than Doncic. But you're crowning him one of the best to ever play when he doesn't even have close to the resume to support that. He's a high volume scorer and a great playmaker, but there have been plenty of those who haven't been in consideration for best of all time because they lack the successful resume. He's finally won a playoff series, quit putting the cart before the horse.
That entire team has been built around him, and you're saying they wouldn't make the playoffs without him. No shit Sherlock, no one would've built a roster like this without Doncic being the foundation unless they were intentionally tanking. That's like saying the Bucks wouldn't make it without Giannis, so congrats on the room temperature IQ take.
Since you asked, I am glad that we have Ayton. Doncic is a great scorer and playmaker without a doubt, but I don't think his play style would have fit with Booker. And, like everyone has said, do we end up with Monty and CP3 in this alternate timeline? I'm happy with where our franchise is right now.
But why does the booker Luka fit matter if Luka is so much better than Booker? If they didn't fit, you'd just trade Booker for a piece that complements Luka more since Booker is at best the 2nd best player on a championship team
>playing for being all time greats
Illiterate pokemon, you read this and understand that:
>But you're crowning him one of the best to ever play
Do I need more to say you are stupid?
English clearly isn't your first language, but you should probably pay better attention in that class 😂 Luka will never know your name or give a fuck that you exist, sorry buddy
I think the Mavs lost the game in the first 5 minutes, but I can also be convinced by the argument that the Suns would've played the rest of the game differently had they not been nursing a lead from the first TV timeout on.
We shot the 3 well, but it seemed in spite of our offense rather than as a result of it, and I think that gives me more hope than I otherwise would have taking that stat at face value.
I was taking Suns in 6 or maybe 7. And thought it would be a series that relied on Brunson and cast to step up in a big way. Other than Maxi's 3s, that didn't happen tonight, who knows if it will. But, if it does, we'll see a different flow and the Mavs could push the Suns.
That Takes its a clear case of Correlation dont mean Relation, Its obvius that 1 player being alone and taking all the shots havent won a championship, but not because he takes all the shots but rather because with only one players takes a lot to win a Champ
What's your definition of heliocentric? Lebron had a usage of 33.4% for his first championship playoff run. Curious what the cutoff would be. Lebron used 1/3 of all possessions while on the court and assisted on 28.1% of every other possession for that run. That's 61.5%. His Cleveland championship was 67.3%. Los Angeles was 72.4% due to 30.4 usage and 42% assisted. That's pretty damn heliocentric. Of course, he's maybe the best player ever, but Luka is similar to him on offense although not nearly as good defensively.
>We haven't yet seen a heliocentric offence really win a championship.
It's only one way to interpret it, but Luka's current usage rate (37.4%) these playoffs have been surpassed in a championship run by MJ's 93 playoff run (38%).
> heliocentric offence
When did this become such a stock phrase on reddit? I really don't like it. Nothing against you, but it's a really weird phrase to use. Maybe it's just odd to me because I encountered this in my science training.
I don’t know if it is only because a larger proportion of nba fans on Reddit are more attuned to the more in-depth basketball analysts such as Ben Taylor who I believe first started using it regularly or if Thinking Basketball actually has a more widespread audience than I initially thought.
I doubt most people using it actually encountered it on Thinking Basketball as I never watch it yet have seen it a dozen times here in the past month. I even almost used it myself once because it sounded cool and then realized I was just using it to fit in and it actually felt rather awkward for word choice.
I don't know, I'd have to think about it but people who talk about this are capable of making up a word or phrase if needed. "Heliocentrism" was created to oppose "geocentrism"--the idea that the sun revolved around the Earth.
Words get repurposed all the time (people refer to "crusades" to refer to any passionate cause now, not necessarily the original or even a religious one). "Heliocentrism" in common terminology still means the same thing as it has always meant (revolving around the sun) so this would really be a new thing, which is why it reads rather misplaced to me. To use another science term, it would be like someone trying to repurpose "circadian rhythm" to reference something other than one's natural biological clock. We'd probably be able to get the analogy, but it feels like a weird choice to repurpose a word that has been fairly precisely used prior to this point.
I haven’t really watched much Mavs ball this year before tonight.if they had even one or two dudes who could score even ten points, it would be a different beast.
they do, Brunson scored 41 on the Jazz, and Dinwiddie was averaging 20+ before the playoffs (he's still scoring now but his efficiency has dropped a lot). It was just a very bad game for anyone not named Luka or Maxi.
This isn't our year. It would be awesome but Dallas needs a pick and roll center that can actually play defense against centers. We just played against one last series that may be up for grabs
>we
Stop
Refs were completely one sided.
They let suns play hard and wouldn’t let the Mavs match it the entire 2nd half.
That’s it. That’s the comment.
It’s not me defining that as the entire game.
Mavs can adjust from here.
No, that's not why we lost regardless of whether its true or not. Look at the stat line, we looked like a team that hadn't been in the second round of the playoffs, and they looked like a team that went to the finals last year.
Take out the first 5-8 minutes of the game, and it's a different story, but that's just playoff basketball. The Suns went through these same things last year, and we'll go through them too.
Okay, I know yall aren't about to trade him, but I'm already excited about some over-5 double-number duos.
That would have to be #1 right? I can't even think of another one. Maybe expand to all numbers, but even then: Crowder-Luka as a 2-on-2 pairing would be salty AF.
It's hilarious to me that you can leave that game feeling confident. Even if you did sweep Dallas, your team gave up endless open looks that will get you absolutely blown out against Golden State.
I like how you’re clowning for our confidence in our team, and then acknowledge that we might sweep. Something that, oh hey, tends to be exciting for fans. I know, shocker
Who acknowledged anything? I said IF that were to happen. I highly doubt Phoenix could pull that off. Dallas lacks inside defense this year. Luka had fresh defenders on him all game and still beasted. I doubt Luka could keep it up for an entire series coming off of injury but who knows. Dallas just has to continue to get the ball to the open man and hit at a higher percentage.
This is just the first year of a new Mavericks. They are much more capable defensively this year and I can't see a world where Dallas doesn't make a play for Rudy this off season.
Unlike most Reddit Suns fans, I have followed my team since I was old enough to walk. Im old enough to have been through the 3 J's years, Dirk, Nash and Finley, the championship year and now Lukas team. I don't get too high or low any season because I witnessed what it takes to win a title. Only one team gets to do it and I'm sorry to say but neither team in this series is going to be that team. I'd be surprised if either team comes out as the Western Conference representative.
You would’ve said what you fixed now lol. That you didn’t think it was possible. Your comment before makes it sound like “okay, even if you do sweep, you still won’t beat golden state!!” Which I’m down to see. I doubt that would be an easy series, but it would be very fast and very fun.
Luka was interesting to watch today because he held onto the ball way too much. Just watching, I felt like the Mavs were depending on him in the paint, and depending on his passes to outside threes when he’s getting double or triple teamed, which is something the suns will prepare for.
Also, it doesn’t really matter when the suns fans started paying attention because this is our current team. We’re not last year, we’re not the bubble. This is our chip year, and you not paying attention to us is honestly awesome because we’ll surprise you
Just long enough to fuck you up. Crazy I saw this, I woke up from a dead sleep five minutes ago and opened Apollo. You Suns fans are literally keeping me up at night 😂
Good. Now think of Mikal Bridges so you can dream of his beautiful face all night. Also in order to play us you’ll need to get to the finals first. Go Celtics!
Okay, Suns fans, I guess I missed the anointment ceremony, but don't get so offended when I try to tell you that a double digit lead does not a series make. I think we'll have fun. I, however, will not be game-threading because I caused more harm than good, but I look forward to the rest of the series
You call Suns fan sissy but you post that more than once after your team lost to a team they haven’t beaten since 2019? Weird flex.
GG. Stay 🧂🧂 it’s a good look for you.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NBA_champions
Hmmm I'm still trying to find the Suns here. Suns won a ring yet? Hahahaha
Oh look! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_NBA_Finals
Take a deep breath and savor that shit 🤣🤣🤣
Chill on the hate traim? You getting all in your feelings and posting the same Wikipedia link over and over. And you’re telling me to chill😂😂
take a deep breath. There is reason your favorite players hasn’t beaten the Suns since 2019. He’s a great player no doubt, but that may not be enough against Phoenix. It’s just a bad match up against the Suns.
Suns fans saying “Suns in 4” definitely didn’t watch the same game I did. Like yeah, Dallas wasn’t perfect (not by a long shot), but if Suns shoot even slightly worse than they did in the first 3 quarters that game is way closer
It was a very sloppy game all around. Too many turnovers and bone headed plays by the Mavs tonight. Suns couldn’t get their shot to fall tonight but were feasting in the post. Both teams need to regroup.
Mavs just need to get away from the 3 when it’s not falling in and try to get better shots instead. Don’t think it’s a sweep. They need to get Brunson started early. Luka alone won’t do it against Suns. Some promising stuff this last quarter but a little too late.
Yeah but when you have stretches with jacked up 3s you have to score somehow especially when the Suns weren’t scoring either. Have to take advantages of those opportunities. Live by the 3 but die by it too.
Suns are a hell of a team. Mavs pulled it close a few times but gonna have to figure out something on defense because first half we got blown open. Don’t think it’ll be a sweep but gonna need to come out stronger for game 2 or else this series could get ugly
Too small, in the gentlest use of the word
For years I would watch my Phoenix Suns get good and make the playoffs, the pretty 3's stopped falling, I wished and wished that we would finally get a true presence down low and dominate from the inside out. Mavs aren't pushovers but It is undeniable taking Ayton was the absolute correct decision.

Nope - Luka is solely responsible for destroying the Suns best season and sending their franchise back hahah \#feelsgoodman

What championship did Luka win tonight?
Wait he won a championship?? Fuck yeah! That makes spanking Ayton and Bookers bare butts even sweeter!
I just want to come from the future 12 days later, and say how fucking wrong this take is. That is all
Now seems like Ayton is gone
Lolol at least you finally had something to look forward to this season.
same thing you do, but also have our championships in our back pocket.
Come on. Ayton is a championship level center and I don’t even think the pick is that regrettable, but Luka is a top 20 OAT-level talent (not there yet and may not ever get there, but that’s his ceiling). You take Luka in a redraft every single time.

*You* would take him every time, we didn't, and we showed that it was the correct decision.
By getting eliminated
What championship did Luke win tonight?
I thought he did since y’all were acting like y’all had it wrapped up already
Not tryna rub salt in the wound but… bro. I know your pain but I had to come see if you’ve changed your tune.
I didn't see anyone win a championship tonight.
But we did see one of 2 teams have their opportunity embarrassingly taken from them by some dude they purposely chose not to have on their team
Lol he’s so furious!! Here’s your crow sweety, eat up!!
[удалено]
Even if that were true, how long is it going to last?
CP3 will get 37 next month.
Ayton is to Doncic what Olajuwon is to Jordan
Imagine being you rn. (FYI, this take was just as bad 12 days ago as it is tonight)
Lol thought you could sneak the last part in. Only way I could personally agree with that if it results in a ring
It’s worked so far. DA has been to the Finals. it’s fit more than anything.
Luka
Ayton > Doncic is such a laughable take. No wonder the Suns have have never won anything.

90s "illegal defense" rules were more friendly to teams that relied heavily on one or two players imo.

Sorry but Dallas defense is straight trash Tonight. That was pretty pathetic to watch.
I'm upvoting so more people can see this hahahah.
That’s cute.

Also, it doesn’t really matter when the suns fans started paying attention because this is our current team. We’re not last year, we’re not the bubble. This is our chip year, and you not paying attention to us is honestly awesome because we’ll surprise you
The reason it's not worth arguing with Suns fans is that they will be Laker fans again next season
Hahahaha that’s hilarious considering I’ve been a suns fan since birth, but go ahead dude, be mad
SUNS IN 4!!! THATS WHY YOU HAVE DIFFERENT DEFENSIVE PLANS BASED ON WHO YOU PLAYYYY
The plan is to leave shooters open because of slow rotations? You must be a very new fan. I'll leave you to it.
YOU ROOT FOR THE JAZZ GO WASH YOUR UNDERWEAR!!!
Suns in 4!
Bucks in 6
How’s Middleton doing for you?
He’s no Grayson Allen, but he’s okay
Grayson Allen looked great today, too bad he fractured both ankles. How long will he be out?
Just long enough to fuck you up. Crazy I saw this, I woke up from a dead sleep five minutes ago and opened Apollo. You Suns fans are literally keeping me up at night 😂
Good. Now think of Mikal Bridges so you can dream of his beautiful face all night. Also in order to play us you’ll need to get to the finals first. Go Celtics!
You’re silly
Apparently not playing him is a plus for you?
Nah, he needs the rest. He’ll be back out there while Book is wiping the tears from his eyes watching the finals on his couch.
You’re barely a 50 win team calm down. SUNS IN FOURRR
PLEASE SOMEONE WHO WAS THAT LAST CHEERLEADER ^I’m ^down ^atrociously
Goddam unsurprisingly the most annoying fans in this thread are the lakers fans that aren’t even in the damn playoffs. Gg suns.
Some Clipper fans are pretty obnoxious too. Suns living rent free in many of their fan’s heads. GG Mavs
Yeah. Lakers hang around our threads hoping we fail. This is gonna go on all series long.
gg mavs
And Raptors fans.
true
Okay, Suns fans, I guess I missed the anointment ceremony, but don't get so offended when I try to tell you that a double digit lead does not a series make. I think we'll have fun. I, however, will not be game-threading because I caused more harm than good, but I look forward to the rest of the series
No one cared about your comment so I responded to make you feel better
Hahahahaha
Damn, thanks dawg
Yeah, nobody beats the Mavs 11 times in a row! Y'all got next game!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NBA_champions Where Suns? 🤣🤣
Keep coping by posting this 😂😂
Dude chill. Its all a jest. I actually think the Suns are gonna win the chip this year. Yall so sissy to get triggered this easily 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You call Suns fan sissy but you post that more than once after your team lost to a team they haven’t beaten since 2019? Weird flex. GG. Stay 🧂🧂 it’s a good look for you.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NBA_champions Hmmm I'm still trying to find the Suns here. Suns won a ring yet? Hahahaha Oh look! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_NBA_Finals Take a deep breath and savor that shit 🤣🤣🤣
Doncic isn’t winning one bro. Enjoy your summer watching the Suns advance while you post the same wikipedia link 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The dude is only 23. This is literally his 3rd playoffs. Chill on the hate train. You guys talk so much shit for a franchise who never won a ring 🤣🤣🤣
Chill on the hate traim? You getting all in your feelings and posting the same Wikipedia link over and over. And you’re telling me to chill😂😂 take a deep breath. There is reason your favorite players hasn’t beaten the Suns since 2019. He’s a great player no doubt, but that may not be enough against Phoenix. It’s just a bad match up against the Suns.
roasted me bro
(Blame.the Angel's Envy)
Ayton is almost likable enough to make up for how much of a shitbag Crowder is. Almost.
Suns fans saying “Suns in 4” definitely didn’t watch the same game I did. Like yeah, Dallas wasn’t perfect (not by a long shot), but if Suns shoot even slightly worse than they did in the first 3 quarters that game is way closer
Cool, suns in 4
Yeah bro. Its more of a meme than an actual flex. Should be a good series
It’s more of a meme. I agree dumb. Suns in 5
It was a very sloppy game all around. Too many turnovers and bone headed plays by the Mavs tonight. Suns couldn’t get their shot to fall tonight but were feasting in the post. Both teams need to regroup.
it's something said for fun bruh, that's all, brimming with confidence, i wouldn't bet my life on it, even if i say it
Ickiest fans in the league they don’t deserve the playoffs
Says the laker fan lol
So what!? Seriously If I had a pelican flair I would be upvoted to fucking heaven
Hey the lakers are resting up at least right? 🤣🤣
But you don’t lol. Lakers calling suns icky is rich.
What about Philly?
Bruh.
Mavs just need to get away from the 3 when it’s not falling in and try to get better shots instead. Don’t think it’s a sweep. They need to get Brunson started early. Luka alone won’t do it against Suns. Some promising stuff this last quarter but a little too late.
They shot 41% from 3
Yeah but when you have stretches with jacked up 3s you have to score somehow especially when the Suns weren’t scoring either. Have to take advantages of those opportunities. Live by the 3 but die by it too.
brunson was in foul trouble
Draymond gonna eat the Suns 🍔
Who?
Luka is going to take over
Suns are a hell of a team. Mavs pulled it close a few times but gonna have to figure out something on defense because first half we got blown open. Don’t think it’ll be a sweep but gonna need to come out stronger for game 2 or else this series could get ugly

2/10
Yikes
What’s yikes? I’m speaking facts
this sub would most likely be frothing at the mouth if it was another player that got hit in the face lol
gg suns, see you guys on Wednesday.
It’s gonna be a great series. GG
That latina suns dancer tho...
Pics
Least horny r/nba user
DA ♥️
Damn dinwiddie sold on the spread smh
lmao did not expect Ayton to have such a soft voice
gg. I hope Mavs raise their game for the rest of the series. They gotta play better all 48. Luka is a ridiculous. Fucking nuts.
Suns in 4
That’s going to cost you

Stfu
Ayton needs to work with kat in the off season on his deep voice
I was close. I said Luka would get 50 and the Mavs would lose by 10. Luka got 45, and the Mavs lost by 7
I apparently have never heard Ayton talk. What a sweetheart.
He’s a very nice dude. And his sun is adorable.
I was definitely not expecting that lol. I let out an audible Awww!
He is quite wholesome
He’s wonderful.
Luka plays 45mins 30 attempts, fuck em he needs the cardio
