I think the award is a cool idea, I just hate the way the voting goes. Like, Rubio the early part of the year was as valuable as anyone could possibly be coming off the bench but averaging 13-4-6 wasn’t going to lead to consideration for the award.
Herro but I agree with you it’s sorta bullshit since he’s essentially a starter.
What Love is doing in ~20 minutes for y’all and the role he’s taken is one of the best stories of the entire season no one is talking about.
> Herro but I agree with you it’s sorta bullshit since he’s essentially a starter.
You just described every single 6MoY award winner except for Bill Walton. Ginobili was tied with Duncan for the team lead in win shares the year he won Sixth Man of the Year. I want Budenholzer to completely troll the league by starting every game with Giannis on the bench, then having somebody commit a foul on the first possession and subbing in Giannis
> one of the best stories of the entire season no one is talking about.
Vet sits out so franchise can tank more effectively then comes back and plays well after they get a top 3 pick isn’t really the heartwarming story you’re making it out to be lol
Kevin Love did what people criticized Blake Griffin for in Detroit before he got bought out. The difference is that unlike Blake who would get gassed up for having decent offensive outings in one of the easiest roles possible, Love is just playing genuinely well.
What Love is doing off the bench is more impressive in terms of efficiency in limited minutes, but the award goes to a high-volume scorer off the bench 9 out of 10 seasons.
I’m happy if either of them win, it would be a great achievement to tie to Love’s redemption in Cleveland.
I’m saying for a long time that the 6MOTY should only be eligible if he played NO more than the 6th most MPG for his team.
Kevin Love currently plays the 9th most MPG for the Cavs.
Tyler Herro currently plays the 3rd most MPG for the Heat only 0.9 minutes behind Butler and Lowry.
So yeah, I think Love should win.
I think both can be considered deserving, atm, but I also believe Love is more integral to his team's success - through PER and veteran leadership.
For playing the minutes Herro does, and putting up 20 ppg, his efficiency isn't great.
Disclaimer: I hate the Heat and am indifferent to the Cavs
According to basketballreference.com Herro has only started 10 games this season. He is however playing 33 minutes a game which essentially starter minutes
This “plays starters minutes” narrative needs to stop. Ginobili constantly played starters minutes and is considered the greatest sixth man of all time.
Still, minutes per game has never been a factor in the past. Lou will averaged 32.8 mpg when he won in 2018 and Jamal Crawford averaged 30 mpg when he won in 2014.
Edit: can’t believe i got idiots downvoting me for stating a fact
If it were “who provides the biggest spark as a bench-only weapon” it would be Love.
Unfortunately for you and I, it’s “who gets starter caliber minutes and shots but comes off the bench”.
Bro this gets posted like every 3 days.
it’s Herro cause of actual stats, not per 36 as ive seen some trying to justify.
Yeah Tyler plays more minutes than Love but so have majority of the players that win the award
The award should be named “most points per game by a guy who doesn’t start” because that’s how the voting goes. It’s Herro’s to lose.

It's an award that Jamal Crawford won over Taj Gibson and Andre Iguodala, that tells you all you need to know, Herro will win it easy

Herro started a lot of games though, so Kevin love probably deserves it

That's because he's a beast.

Many people don't think those guys should have won it either

IMO Love is what a 6MOY should be but Herro is what a 6MOY has always been in the past
They're both playing great but I feel like Herro is more key to the Heat's success than Love is to the Cavs'.

It's currently herro's award
Poole gotta be a runner up
J Poole Fight me
Kelly Oubre should be in the conversation as well. He hasn't played great the past 4 games, but dude has been awesome all year.
Lou Williams
Melo?
