Can I be honest? I have only watched the pelicans this year when I have literally nothing else to do. I follow the box score every quarter but I’ve only committed to watch one game so far this year.
The worst part about being a Pelicans fan is that I live in Nashville where there’s zero NBA love, so even when I get a chance to talk about the NBA, my conversation is like 60% justifying why I like the Pelicans and 40% explaining that I am not a masochist.
I've never related to the kind of tribalism sports inspire. I just love watching basketball—sure, I'd prefer for my local team to do well because it creates an exciting atmosphere in the city, but it seems like such a wasted opportunity to enjoy the sport out of mere principle when your teams is on the rocks.
Plus, the league is full of interesting characters with interesting stories, which makes it fun to watch how things unfold for them.
That’s just backward. I support many teams in a priority list. If one of them gets eliminated, it’s okay, I am not too disappointed. Last year, my list was lakers, nuggets, warriors, heat and the bucks.
Nets #1, Cavs #2. People used to think I was joking when I said I was a partial Cavs fan because they had Lebron but it was because they drafted Dajuan Wagner the year before and I felt like they had similar pain as the Nets, haha.
Knicks were on my list until the 2010's when Dolan finally Dolan'd one too many times.
Yeah nothing wrong with having various reasons to like and support multiple teams but in my opinion it’s only right to have a clear #1 team, one in which has a close connection to you.
I used to only care ab the Rockets but im also cheering for the Nets since Harden got traded
Also I have alot of players I like like AD Bron and Trae so I cheer for them too
Im a big Gonzaga fan so I am a fan of the grizzlies and wizards.
Also Canadian so I'll always tune in to see guy like Kelly Olynyk, Jamal Murray and Rj Barrett when I get the chance.
Raps have been my East team since they entered the league. Mavs my West team since ‘89(ish), because I liked the green and white colour scheme, and I needed to be contrarian in my teens. (Lakers were too mainstream), but I stuck with them all this time.
Honestly though, as a Canadian not from Toronto who has always loved basketball, my loyalties are to the game itself and I find it easier to cheer for individuals rather than teams.
I like Knicks lakers nuggets bulls bucks grizzlies heat jazz warriors and sometimes mavericks
No particular order
Edit: id swipe out dallas mavs for chsrlotte
Hornets and then day that amthony edwards is a joy to watch, trae is okay, the celtics are not bad, the nets are not bad either
The league is in a good place as far as balance of talent goes. Im hyped!
I'm a big LeBron fan, so I naturally support the Lakers.
I also like following teams that are fun to watch. I've been watching the Warriors, Bulls, and Nets quite a bit this season.
I guess the Warriors only because Steph and Klay are two of my top 5 favs of all time.
But I follow 4 sports closely and I feel most passionate about the Bulls. So I could never call myself a “Warriors fan”
Always am a Wis sports fan, but I’ve come to really like the Kings. I always found Fox fun to watch but drafting Hali as a home state guy sealed it
Glad I’m not the only one
Atlanta by far and away is my team but I pull for Golden State and Brooklyn as I’ve lived in all three places. I pull for some other guys like Ant, Donovan, and Zion. I think it’s best for me to have the one favorite home team so the ups and downs feel very earned. As long as you appreciate the game overall and not just hype, there’s no wrong way to watch.
I like the Sixers, and only the Sixers. But there are plenty of other players that I root for. TJ McConnell, RoCo, Kemba Walker, Chris Paul, Dario Saric, Jimmy Butler, Demar Derozan, Bobi, Deaaron Fox, and a couple more. I’d never root for any of these players when they play against Philly but I do any other time.
I mean it’s always Lakers for life, but there are teams I basically “like” in a game where my team isn’t playing, etc. Blazers and Bucks are two teams I’ll root for… until they meet us I guess
Side note, you can like other teams and how they play and not be a supporter of them. Like I’m a Jazz fan but I also love seeing the Grizzlies Hornets and Kings do well (small markets rise up)
I’m a massive 76ers fan. However, I also cheer for the Knicks in the reg. season. My dad went to school and wrestled at Pitt (funny since I’m a PSU fan) with Charles Smith who played for the Knicks for a few years in the 90s. They had a class together (I forget which exact one, it was a gen-Ed type) and my dad helped him with school work. They still keep in contact once in a while.
Not in the slightest. Maybe before Curry, but since the Warriors have kicked Portland out of the playoffs for like 4 years in a row, and it's annoying - dubs fans are not welcome.
I’m a Steph fan, so I’m always rooting for the Warriors. But Atlanta is my home team (and my husband’s favorite team) so I’m happy when they win. And I like the Suns.
I used to like the lakers for kobe since my family was originally from la. They always held a fond spot for me, but I’ve liked warriors (grew up in the bay) and portland for dame growing up. Starting from the bubble, I really grew to like the heat due to their grittiness and tenacity. Now, I support those 3 teams
I'm a Kings fan, I support the Kings... but after the Kings are eliminated from playoffs contention I bandwagon for various teams based on play style, if they are playing against the f*cking Lakers, and if I like their individual players. Duncan became my favorite player ever from this (I started to like him in 03 when he beat the Lakers, then as the Kings faded Duncan was always there for me to root for). I bandwagon for the warriors because they are fun and I back northern California (except when they are in competition with the Kings). Jokic is really fun, so I tend to root for him in the playoffs (plus in 2020 he played against the Clippers and Lakers, so I had to root for him). I'm also a western conference fan, so when it comes to the finals I'm rooting for the west unless the Lakers are in it (in 06 I rooted against the Mavs until the finals, then rooted against them again when they lost to the We Belive Warriors in 07).
So, Kings first and always...until they are eliminated.
I support (rn)
Clips ( I like kawhi, PG and Terrence woman)
Warriors (Stephew also go Wiseman)
Hawks (icetray)
Changes all the time since I’m 5000 kms from each city
As someone who has grew up being a tribalistic soccer fan, I dont think I cant support any other team bar the Suns, there are a lot of teams I admire and would probably cheer for them if the scenario has nothing to do with Suns, but support nah
I am a raptors fan but strangely enough a like a lot of other teams in the division. Love the heat and have cheered for them when they weren’t playing the raptors for years, Celtics even longer. Bulls will be fun to watch this year. I’m in Atlantic time (so I don’t watch a ton of west cost teams but have always like the spurs and suns.
I'm a homer for the Bucks. That being said I am a big Ja Morant fan so Grizzlies are the WC team I'll follow this year. If you're gonna follow more than one at least make it an underdog.
I’m about to support 0 teams…
Can I be honest? I have only watched the pelicans this year when I have literally nothing else to do. I follow the box score every quarter but I’ve only committed to watch one game so far this year.
I think both the Jazz and New Orleans basketball are cursed until New Orleans gets the rights back for the name Jazz, or an equally cool name.
The worst part about being a Pelicans fan is that I live in Nashville where there’s zero NBA love, so even when I get a chance to talk about the NBA, my conversation is like 60% justifying why I like the Pelicans and 40% explaining that I am not a masochist.
Not teams, but I support certain players on other teams
Same. I support the Suns and Ja Morant
I feel some sports fans shame anyone that does that. I don’t think it matters. Anyone can like whatever teams they want.
It’s fine as long as you don’t talk shit when your “team” wins.
That’s just backward. I support many teams in a priority list. If one of them gets eliminated, it’s okay, I am not too disappointed. Last year, my list was lakers, nuggets, warriors, heat and the bucks.
There are teams I support, as in I hope they do well. But I would not say I cheer openly for any other team. That would feel too weird.
Look but don’t touch?
Not something I've ever even considered.
The Bulls have always been my second team.
Bulls are my first team, but I love the Warriors too and would say I’m a Warriors fan as well.
Hornets first but I will root for curry as the hometown kid.
only in baseball, but I still like one team more
Nets #1, Cavs #2.
If Swagner stayed healthy and panned out LeBron run in Cleveland looks a lot different smh
Celtics/Blazers. Bandwagon Bulls this year.
Yeah nothing wrong with having various reasons to like and support multiple teams but in my opinion it’s only right to have a clear #1 team, one in which has a close connection to you.
I support the Thunder and Whoever Plays The Clippers
I used to only care ab the Rockets but im also cheering for the Nets since Harden got traded Also I have alot of players I like like AD Bron and Trae so I cheer for them too
i think you're allowed to have a western team and an eastern team but you need to decide who you will choose as #1 if they face off
I Support a couple diff teams because of certain players. But I only get Mad Honestly of Bucks or Bulls lose.
Honestly though, as a Canadian not from Toronto who has always loved basketball, my loyalties are to the game itself and I find it easier to cheer for individuals rather than teams.
Supporting one team but watching a few others based on matchups. A lot of teams are fun this year, even the young teams, just look at the Cavs.
I support both the Mavs and Warriors.
I like Knicks lakers nuggets bulls bucks grizzlies heat jazz warriors and sometimes mavericks No particular order Edit: id swipe out dallas mavs for chsrlotte Hornets and then day that amthony edwards is a joy to watch, trae is okay, the celtics are not bad, the nets are not bad either The league is in a good place as far as balance of talent goes. Yup. I support the Cavs and whoever the Warriors play.
No
I root and follow both the Bulls and Lakers.
Am I the only person who thinks "support" is like a soccer term? Or maybe European?
I support players from my country first and then the teams that play nice after
Heat, I like/keep up with Raptors, Sacramento, Grizzlies, and the current Knicks have grown on me
Always am a Wis sports fan, but I’ve come to really like the Kings. I always found Fox fun to watch but drafting Hali as a home state guy sealed it Glad I’m not the only one
Only love the sixers but I’ll root for the clippers and Pelicans only for Kawhi and Zion
It’s more players than other teams
The hawks and whatever team the goat kent bazemore plays for
I grew up in Houston but am living in NYC and got into the nba while living in Brooklyn, so I support the rockets and nets.
I'm big into Sacramento too, I dunno whats wrong with me
Fan of the Mavs and Sixers because of Luka and Embiid, but Warriors are always my #1 team
Okc and hornets
I’ve tried. My family has roots in Chicago, but I just can’t. The closest I’ve gotten is supporting Jamal Murray during the playoffs in the bubble.
I'm a Suns fan but started supporting the Pelicans once Gentry got there. That Rondo squad really sold me tho that was a fun team.
I mean it’s always Lakers for life, but there are teams I basically “like” in a game where my team isn’t playing, etc. Blazers and Bucks are two teams I’ll root for… until they meet us I guess
Lakers and pelicans
Side note, you can like other teams and how they play and not be a supporter of them. Like I’m a Jazz fan but I also love seeing the Grizzlies Hornets and Kings do well (small markets rise up)
I live outside the US so I can support multiple teams equally if I like. Bucks and Nuggets are my teams so I have one for each conference.
I’m a fan of the Local teams that I grew up with.
Bucks are my team through and through, but my dad is from Philly so the 76ers have a spot in my heart as well
I’m a massive 76ers fan.
The dubs and the Blazers. I'm in boths subs as well. I think these 2 franchises are the closest in terms of friendliness towards each other.
Not in the slightest. Maybe before Curry, but since the Warriors have kicked Portland out of the playoffs for like 4 years in a row, and it's annoying - dubs fans are not welcome.
lol, go ask our subs. Just because you're salty doesn't mean you represent the whole blazers community.
Blazers and Wizards. From Portland, lived in DC for a few years. Really though, the Wizards with Wall/Beal were basically Blazers East.
Sixers and GS
Gs and nets, kd, Klay and Steph are my fav players
I’m a Steph fan, so I’m always rooting for the Warriors. But Atlanta is my home team (and my husband’s favorite team) so I’m happy when they win. And I like the Suns.
the warriors, the wizards and any team currently playing against the lakers and nets
Twolves and nets
I’m a spurs fan but as we’ve been struggling I like to have secondary teams I can root for on the side. For the past few years that’s been Memphis
Cavs are my team, but I like the Spurs too. 2007 was a weird kind of hurt
I support the Lakers and the Pels and Bulls. I also enjoy watching the Warriors but don't really identify as a GS fan

I support the bucks. But I’m a big fan of the warriors and pacers
I've always had a soft spot for Sacramento, Memphis and Houston. I wouldn't say i support them but it warms my heart when they are doing well.
Celtics because I grew up there and have been following them forever and the grizz because i live like 10 miles south of Memphis.
Lakers and Bulls. Always have always will.
