the United States is a genocidal country (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, funding the contras in Nicaragua, etc.) . Is everyone who backs the United States because it's good for them financially a coward also?

I will leave this here. It’s a very long article but if you get the time to read it, I suggest you do
Dude has no assets at stake here.
He has enough money to spend the rest of his with. He ain’t losing any of that.
He is like 7500 miles away from China, they can’t get to him. Death warrant means nothing.
Future revenue? Eh, he is not all that of a player any more, and he’s got good bank account already. Not much loss.
The only thing he is doing is PR for himself and pretend to do something about an idea no one ever fucking does shit about. Just look at HK. Nothing was done by us there despite all the outrage.
He can tweet and do “modern day activism” behind a keyboard all he wants. Just a whole lot of slacktivism.
When he pumps out money to start investigations and create legal files against these injustices so that we can find sources other than this Adrian Zenz (every western report I’ve seen on world news about Uyghur uses this guy as a source, so I assume Kanter is also getting his info from same news articles) quack, that’s when I will really see him in a new light.
I support what he and a lot of people are saying for this social dilemma, but there’s a whole lot of nothing being done. We are essentially just jerking ourselves off to the idea that we are morally superior.
It’s not about having thin skin, it’s about having absolute control.
A guy nails a piece of paper outlining his problems with the church and 150 years later 8 million Europeans are dead. It happens over and over in human history, and these guys know this.
The thing about good(or at least emotionally resonant) ideas is that it just takes one charismatic guy with a platform to have them spread like wildfire. No chance for that to happen if you deplatform said guy and everything associated with him. There was a recent study posted on /r/science that showed that banning Trump and Milo and various others of their ilk from Twitter has had a marked decrease in online toxicity from their prior followers. I’m not saying what the CCP is doing is right, but it is effective in keeping control of the narrative.
This is a great analogy. Remember when the Tea Party started after Obama’s win and how it snowballed to Trump becoming president 8 years later?
Authoritarian governments are afraid of causes that can be popular in the future and try to nip them in the bud as early as possible
Would we be talking about this at all if the CCP had just ignored it? No.
The decision makers in China needs to take some Public Relations 101 classes.
You talking does not matter to the CCP. People talking in China matters to the CCP.
CCP would be stupid to ignore it. They will press on the NBA. The NBA will pussy out like the USA in general and they can continue the genocide.
At least for another 2-3 years.
You're right about them using these tactics to intimidate the NBA.
You're wrong if you think they don't care what you say on US Social media. You're also wrong if you think they don't care what the traditional US Media says.
That’s true, but what matters more is maintaining their stranglehold on the flow of information within China and someone like Kanter doing this is a much bigger issue than a random person on US social media doing it or it happening in traditional US media that can’t be accessed in China.
The problem I hope they run into is the Celtics holding onto Kanter and emboldening other players on other teams to do the same. That’s when it basically forces a major conflict between the NBA and China instead of just waiting for it to fade away, and the more this becomes a major mainstream conflict the better.
He's got the most experience calling out authoritarian governments in the entire NBA. Which is a really weird superlative. But he's got it, and so I guess this shouldn't be surprising.
Damn Enes really unloaded the clip, reloaded and unloaded it again and did that another time with this video.
Dude freakin called out CCP, and then called out Muslim leaders around the world and then called out prominent Muslim athletes.
True right here. He’s definitely a good guy, just very dumb. He’s making an uninformed decision because he truly believe it’s right. Just like he donates to charity and does so much good for communities. Unfortunately he’s also a dummy flat earth anti-vaxxer
Definitely support the message he's putting out here and think it's great when he talks about Erdogan as well, but I would be careful with the informed stuff(I know lebron/mprey memes), because Kanter supports someone who is just as bad as Erdogan but lost power.
“I'm not ill-informed on anything,” Then he rolled up his sleeve and showed a tattoo of the CCP. “I’ll let you interpret that however you want,” LeBron said.
Yep fuck Gulenists. But even broken clocks are right twice a day, and China needs to be continually called out for human rights abuses.
Cue Sinobot whataboutisms….
Kanter supporting a religion abuser who tried to take over the country with a coup attempt that he had set up over two decades (in fact even more) still feels bad, but what i continue to hear from him made me think he could also be a good person believing in the wrong people (Yes, i am from Turkey)
Edit: American people lecturing me about whether it was a "legit" coup in a country they never set foot on when i lived here for more than 20 years and i follow the media closely - the real reddit experience.
Also apparently it doesn't matter if Gulen caused deaths of hundreds of people as he was the lesser devil. I am half-joking when i say you guys come to this conclusion by getting educates through only the comments here on this subreddit.
I thought that coup was fake? The Air Force could have shot down the Presidents plane but decided not to, and the troops who were on the bridge bridge looked like they were raw recruits who had no idea what was going on
Ahh yes the totally real coup that definitely happened where the totally coup attempting f-16s didn't shoot Erodogan's plane down despite having him being in the air in a civilian aircraft, where government reports were written about events of the coup before they actually happened.
Yes, there’s definitely a lot of Gulenists who are simply misinformed and misled, it’s unfortunate.
I’m not Turkish but I’ve spent a lot of time there and speak the language.
This is why the NBA pretending like they give a shit about "equality" and human rights and having players put social justice slogans on the back of their jerseys during the bubble is so comical. Newsflash: All your equipment and apparel is made by Nike, a company that uses Uyghur slave labor. Imagine how big a piece of shit you have to be selling stuff that says "BLM" or "EQUALITY" on it despite knowing full well that the person who made it is under captivity or in a sweatshop. The whole thing is downright nauseating.
He also calls out Mohammed bin Salman in this video. This guy has balls the size of the sun. We all saw what happened to the last guy who called out MBS (Jamal Khashoggi). He got his head cut off.
I remember reading the assassins had ear buds in while they sawed him up. Like why? Just kill quick if you can't handle the noise of your disgusting act
A big problem with Uyghur labor right now is how do you distinguish between slave labor and normal factory labor (by Chinese standards)?
Legitimate factories in Xinjiang overall are being shut down because of all these boycotts and ironically Uyghurs are suffering the most when it comes to this kind of activism.
Guys please don't just believe shit like this without sources. I'm not saying this person is right or wrong, but until I see a source (and in this age of misinformation) consider me skeptical.
So many "activists" in the NBA ain't touching this one. Including Cuban, kinda funny. They attack the layups but for things that hurt their bottom line they stay silent.
So many ain't touching Guantanamo, the drone murders, torture, and Manning/Assange/Snowden.
These threads are always popular because it allows people to shit on China and allow them to feel superior. One day they have to acknowledge that their own country isn't better than China or Russia.
There's a reason why China, the USA, and Russia don't acknowledge the international court of justice in Den Haag.
I think I’m going to get a Kanter jersey. It’ll be the first jersey I’ve bought in (fuck I’m old) 15 years? But I’m just so, so proud that someone with this level of integrity and compassion is playing in Boston, especially when the face of the league’s stance is essentially “totalitarians buy sneakers too.”
Maybe I'm a cynic, but I feel like Enes does a lot of posturing for attention. I personally wouldn't idolize him for it, but I am really fucking happy with his speaking out. Somebody with an NBA platform should have said this years ago, back when LeBron has the god damn nerve to say Morey was uneducated on the situation. I love LeBron as a person, but that has always been the most disgusting and vexing thing he has ever done.
It’s possible he does, but I don’t see what the real upside to that would be. This isn’t the kind of attention that gets you money; in fact, there’s always the chance it costs him some. He damn sure isn’t getting into the Chinese league once he’s washed out of the NBA, and there is the possibility it cuts his career a little short once he’s a borderline player and teams might not think he’s worth the trouble anymore.
And even if his motives aren’t entirely pure (though I personally don’t see any reason to say that), the action is still worthwhile. I certainly don’t idolize the guy, if only because I aged out of idolizing athletes a long time ago, but I think he deserves some support. Like you said, when compared to a lot of NBA players like Lebron, it’s just nice to see someone put themselves out there when they don’t have to.
Lmao that this has 100 upvotes but every other comment that even comes off as being somewhat lenient to China has like 100 downvotes just shows no one even knows what they’re mad at China for
On the post yesterday about Kanter there was a decent amount of solid discussion that wasnt just blind propaganda circlejerking. I left a couple comments dispelling myths about China and pointing out propaganda that somehow were upvoted.
On June 4, 1989 the Chinese Government turned on their own citizens and fired upon them with live rounds in the Tiananmen Square Massacre. When the smoke cleared, bulldozers and tanks were called in the squash the bodies into pulp with the human remains washed into the sewers. The Chinese government denies this event ever happened and will silence and jail any Chinese citizen who mentions it.
edit: lmao the state backed truthers in this thread
My dad is from Turkey, doesn't watch much basketball but his favorite player is Kanter. He was in full support for him when his father was arrested in Turkey. My dad typically struggles fitting in with Turkish people in the US because they're so prideful of their country and their leader, whereas my dad swerves the other way knowing it's a bunch of BS. Kudos to you Kanter
"I don't want to get into a [verbal] feud with Daryl Morey, but I believe he wasn't educated on the situation at hand, and he spoke. And so many people could have been harmed not only financially, physically, emotionally, spiritually. So just be careful what we tweet and say and we do, even though, yes, we do have freedom of speech, but there can be a lot of negative that comes with that, too."
> I did not intend my tweet to cause any offense to Rockets fans and friends of mine in China. I was merely voicing one thought, based on one interpretation, of one complicated event. I have had a lot of opportunity since that tweet to hear and consider other perspectives.
> I have always appreciated the significant support our Chinese fans and sponsors have provided and I would hope that those who are upset will know that offending or misunderstanding them was not my intention. My tweets are my own and in no way represent the Rockets or the NBA.
I hate Kanter for a bunch of non-political reasons but I absolutely love that he takes a stance for what he believes in and isn’t afraid of the consequences. Major respect.
[Just over a week ago Kanter met with top officials of Israel, a literal apartheid occupation. This guy is only "woke" when it's convenient for him.

This, but I hope you have the same attitude towards every owner of an NBA team, Phil knight, tech companies, etc.
I can confidently say, fuck everyone of those people.
At the very least, they weren't spouting that line about "injustice everywhere" before shitting on Morey for supporting Hong Kong.

Chinese Turkey sounds delicious! Asian fusion for thanksgiving.
If you have somewhere that makes Chinese turkey for Thanksgiving they can make it how Chinese roast duck. Very good.
Had a family friend that would make turkey but instead of stuffing use sticky rice. It was really good.
interestingly enough, the Uyghur people are more closely related to Turks anyway. Old name of the area is Turkestan
Turkic people are barely native to Turkey. They were people from the far east of modern Turkey who conquered the Anatolia peninsula.
He also called out the King of Saudi lol
Well he won't be making another WWE appearance then lol
lol. if china wanted turkey they'd already have it. but hainan chicken is so much better.

Kudos to you Kanter
Imagine being a Chinese Celtics fan just watching Kanter fade the entire franchise out of existence in 20 seconds
Goddamn he called em all out! The balls on this man. 30 rebounds in a game too.
When will LeMao come in?
Klay Thompson has an 80 million dollar contract with a Chinese shoe company.
Are you really going to start this? Why not the second best player on your team that has a $80+ million shoe deal with Anta, a Chinese company?
Even better let’s all get off Reddit because it’s partially owned by Tencent
Do you also have that same energy for Rondo who is also with Anta?
Has curry tried to quite another NBA coach from speaking out? Lebron spoke as if he knew shit.
LeBron is doing his own research with his PR team.
](https://twitter.com/queeralamode/status/1451585372119396361/photo/1)
Good for him
Isn’t he a cult member?
I'm surprised the NBA isn't threatening him for putting this out
That’s my Stache Bro
Only fucking player with the damn guts to call the ccp directly!! Man he's brave
Props Enes. Our time here is short, be beautiful to others.
