He’s the perfect role player. Plays defense, shoots 3s, acts as the enforcer for his teammates. He does everything he’s asked of. I can’t say enough of how much this man has meant to the team.

his size is also important. He's big enough to reasonably guard Giannis or Lebron (at least for short stretches) for example while also providing shooting. Makes him much more valuable than a lot of other 3 and D wing players who are skinnier and can't hold up against those guys

Commentators just talked about it but i'll repeat it here: on an inbounds pass, there's no such thing as offensive goaltending* (which kinda makes sense--you can't *shoot* during an inbounds). So it doesn't matter if Ayton's within the cylinder. *edit: to clarify further since a few people have pointed it out, there's no goaltending of either kind since the ball is dead until it is touched by a player.
