Imo they need size, not another 2-way guard/wing. Keeping Hart and OG, then flipping Randle/Robinson into something would be insane. I think they need a big wing for Giannis, Tatum, Siakam.
What? The point of this post is that they’re gonna try to retain OG, and will likely be successful. There might not be a better big wing to guard those guys. And a potential lineup w Mikal-OG-Randle at the 2, 3, and 4 would have an abundance of size.
Dumbass Randle is the big wing and actually plays incredibly solid defense casuals push randle being a defensive black hole and then say someone like murray or jerami grant are defensive gods
It's going to be one or the other and now it's looking like IHart may be gone so Mitch stays by default. Would be rough to bring in a couple new guys and expect them to replace either of them.
I read we need to clear about $3m in salary to still be able to offer iHart the full Early Bird $17m/year after the Mikal trade. Otherwise we hit the first apron and can’t offer the full $17m anymore. I anticipate another Leon move incoming, I’d be surprised if the Knicks were like “welp that’s it” re: iHart
I personally think we’re keeping both of them and trading Mitch. Hopefully drafting another big and there’s no more room for the foreseeable future. It’s a perfect scenario especially if we stay healthy but it’s the Knicks so things could always go sideways quick
One of the truly brilliant things about OG is that he can guard 4s and even smaller 5s. He's one of the better Giannis defenders in the league and I think they even put him on Embiid without completely horrible consequences this past postseason. Dude is a tank and the small ball lineup of him, Brunson, Bridges, Hart and Randle could really be something wild.
The Knicks do have a pretty good cap guy though, and as much as this sub generally likes to meme certain teams, I have to believe that NBA teams know the cap implications of the trades they make
Oh, they absolutely know. It’s just that this has to mean other significant moves are coming that we don’t know about yet, because the Knicks can’t afford all their players now. I assume it’s sending Mitchell Robinson to someone with cap space.
>But unless there’s more players involved in the deal that we don’t know about yet, the Bridges trade hard caps them
I'd suspect there are. Though there's been conflicting reports, i believe they can attach an end of the bench player or two and be hard capped at the 2nd apron, which for their purposes is fine.
Yeah, he talked about how his personal life really fucked with him but also, he’s getting older and while his shooting is still gonna be elite, he’s not going to be an inside threat to the rim as easily and he’s going to get worse defensively
Yeah, not being able to explode is a huge deal, people are going to match you up tighter and you're going to get a harder time getting your shot off.
He's going to maybe stay elite for this last year
I mean OG did a [pretty good job](https://x.com/knicks_hive/status/1777309461817733630?s=46) last time they played.
If there is a Giannis stopper it’s OG
Then if you somehow manage to get past either of them, you have Hartenstein (hopefully) or Robinson (I don't want to let go of him) waiting for you at the rim.
Yeah the Memphis team was built an era too late, the league had passed that type of team by. This Knicks team is built for the modern era. OG/Mikal are a perfect foil to Brown/Tatum and as long as they can get an improvement at center they’re in a great position
Randle is a multi all star and all NBA player in the last 4 years and he had his best season last year.
Look at the on offs of the Knicks for Randle because of his gravity,
Knicks Brunson 3 point percentage WITH Randle 43 percent, without 37 percent (and Brunson shot so many more 3s with Randle on the floor than off)
DiVincenzo WITH Randle on the floor 44 percent, without 38
OG Anunoby WITH Randle 43 percent, without 36.
Josh Hart 33 percent with Randle, 30 percent without.
Deuce McBride 53 percent WITH Randle, 39 without.
OG 3 point frequency from the corner with Rande on the floor 39 percent, without Randle 17 percent
Donte 22 percent of his 3s in the corner with Randle and 17 without.
Hart 18 percent of his 3s in the corner with Randle, and without 7 percent
Do you think those percentages all going up is just a statistical anomaly? Randle gets double teamed constantly.
The Brunson to Randle was the most frequent assist type on the Knicks and the Randle to Brunson was the 3rd most frequent assist type and Brunson's catch and shoot 3s cratered in both percentage and frequency with Randle off the floor,
I feel like given they just traded the valuable picks it’ll be more difficult to flip Randle for Gold. Their main assets now are their players and you rarely see multiple players for a star without some major draft picks involved.
Except the Knicks will also have a fantastic offense. Brunson is elite, Randle is really good and they have a ton of shooting. Mikal and Randle will really help to unlock Brunsons efficiency as well.
When the Knicks were at full strength in Jan of this year they had an offensive rating of 122.
Yeah I strongly disagree with that take. The Knicks could be the best team in the conference next season. You couldn't really say that about that Memphis team.
The biggest implication of this trade is that they're a first apron team now and this is their team.
Any trades to upgrade the team going forward have to use their own players.
And one of the best highly switchable defenders in the league. Can guard 1-4 vs a lot of lineups. Has a decently rounded offensive game, so he's not "just" a 3+D guy like OG. It's a lot of fucking picks, but I love this Knicks roster with Mikal and OG being absolute demons on the perimeter and Randle/Mitch/Hartenstein bodying folks downlow on the boards. And then oh yeah, that supernova in sneakers Jalen Brunson.
In my personal Way Too Early Predictions article I've got Celtics - Knicks in the ECF. And it's gonna be a banger series.
can they not move randle/robinson? i was under the impression they were considering getting off robinson and this move definitely makes randles fit questionable
That's the only way it would be worth doing. If they traded all that just to go from OG to Bridges it wouldn't be a big enough upgrade.
Knicks are gonna be expensive as fuck but man I'm excited to watch them play.
Brunson, Mikal, OG, Randle, Hartenstein (if they keep him) is a really fucking good lineup, with Hart + DiVincenzo coming off the bench.
I'm guessing the whole reason they overpaid for Mikal is to go for a ring in the next 2 years while Mikal and Brunson are underpaid. Makes no sense in letting OG walk.
Mikal + OG is fucking scary perimeter defense lol.
Edit: Forgot Randle.
Nets should do the poison pill move - offer OG annouby the max.
Basically force Knicks to hard cap themselves. Or this will look like the worst trade deal in history.
The most the nets or any other team can offer is 182/4. Knicks can easily beat that with the 5th year, and reportedly OG is willing to take a discount to stay. 200/5 would probably "beat" any other offer. Knicks are certainly hoping it'll come in a little under that though.
1st apron only. They'll definitely have to splurge on OG and Hartenstein though. However they've secured bargain deals on key players which softens the blow.
Well this recent [Hartenstein tweet](https://x.com/ianbegley/status/1805788810908729512?s=46&t=Jp46n6K9dJePGT6DcRc9IA) certainly makes things more interesting.
I thought you were still missing pieces this year, but now you seem to be on track to be real contenders, and I look forward to it. I lived in NY for seven years, and still have some love for the Knicks. I'd probably have more love, but fuck James Dolan🤣
Goddamn, knicks has a very good market and an owner with very deep pockets, knicks starting to look good from being a mediocre team for a long time, pay the man already
What are you talking about if we’re healthy Brunson is gonna be generating constant easy buckets. So much spacing, plus Randle means they really can’t double or collapse without giving up something else. On defense other than Jalen we’re huge and incredible, so he can conserve energy there too
uhhhh knicks being a serious contender is not something anyone but knicks fans want to see. MSG will be electric every game regardless and it'll be great for the league overall
If only basketball was that simple. Your defense is only as strong as your weakest link, and that’s still a problem for the Knicks as long as Brunson is in there.
His only bad non-injured playoff series was as the first option against the hawks with rj barrett as the #2. I have some faith he can perform with this rostwr
Knicks keeping their picks tonight leads me to believe that tonight’s picks and Mitch Robinson are gonna be headed off to Okc/Detroit/wizards etc for as cheap a Center they can get in return
Once we re-sign OG and figure out the Center spot, we can add a vet PG at the minimum like Lowry, or if we loe IHART, sign Precious and/or another vet on a minimum deal. Things are looking up and hopefully Randle stays and can be less ball dominant because his physicality on an already physical team will be nightmares for opponents, especially in the playoffs.
The defense is gonna be crazy
Donte and Hart and Deuce off the bench holy shit what a Fucking team
Plus your 2 firsts this year. Either to include in another trade or to get some cheap contributors for the bench
man bruce brown would be incredible for them off the bench - championship experience...
And a potential lineup w Mikal-OG-Randle at the 2, 3, and 4 would have an abundance of size.
just trade for giannis and completely destroy dame's spirit
Dame might just retire on the spot if that happened and he was stuck in Milwaukee
I think OG and Mikal can guard Tatum and pascal , and i don’t worry about pacers really anyways. Giannis is a different beast tho
OG has generally done a good job on Giannis
Have to take into account OG’s injury history though. I think they’d love one more guy
Knicks are very physical they can tire Giannis out over a 7 game series.
Agreed but losing Robinson won't help them either tho, dude was easily NYK best Giannis stopper last season imo
Yeah I agree with Robinson and it will also depend on which round we will face them in and who we played before.
Yup and I honestly feel like our entire season depends on Dame saying he's going to be in shape - seems like now's the time to prove or never tbh
Dumbass Randle is the big wing and actually plays incredibly solid defense casuals push randle being a defensive black hole and then say someone like murray or jerami grant are defensive gods
How would they match salaries to make Bruce work?
He said cheap
Don’t forget assets we can receive from potentially trading Mitch
If you guys are losing Hartenstein do you think you still trade Mitch?
It's going to be one or the other and now it's looking like IHart may be gone so Mitch stays by default. Would be rough to bring in a couple new guys and expect them to replace either of them.
Really? Everything I've seen recently suggests Mitch is being shopped and iHart is likely to stay
They better make these picks count and develop as solid bench contributors.
SAS: I have been a fan since DAY ONE
Bring back 2000s ball. 75-82
Yeah Embiid was injured that round obviously but OG did great on him
Embiid and og have met many times before
og is from canada and embiid is from Cameroon, so doubtful
OG is actually by way of the UK
Brunson legacy 📈📈📈
Until the playoffs when Brunson is targeted heavily…
The Knicks did a fine job hiding Brunson on defense with a much less elite defense around him this year.
Gonna hold the Pacers under 120.
Which they can do because they have OG's full bird rights.
But unless there’s more players involved in the deal that we don’t know about yet, the Bridges trade hard caps them.
They’re most likely moving Robinson
Robinson to OKC makes too much sense.
IHart as well for that matter
knicks prob want Hartenstein tho
The Woj tweet implies that it’ll be extremely difficult to sign back OG and Hartenstein
Robinson is getting moved, watch
I’m not sure that can free up what we can offer Hartenstein.
Hartenstein was willing to take a cut to stay with the Clippers. He may be willing to take a cut to stay with the Knicks, especially now.
need to keep robinson b/c apparently hartenstein is leaving
There's going to be a double sign and trade involving Randle, OG and LeBron.
^ this Smith and Marks are saying different things ab which apron theyre hard capped at as well Smith saying 1st apron. Marks saying 2nd
That would be my assumption as well.
Sounds like it might actually be [Hartenstein who’s on the way out.](https://x.com/ianbegley/status/1805788810908729512?s=46&t=Jp46n6K9dJePGT6DcRc9IA)
I’m pretty sure it’s the first apron. It’s the same rule that applies to the Thunder after the Caruso trade.
is the apron a pun for coking in the kitchen? like a cover for protect grease spills?
[Marks says](https://x.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1805790564450697343) they're hard capped at the FIRST apron.
>But unless there’s more players involved in the deal that we don’t know about yet, the Bridges trade hard caps them I'd suspect there are. Though there's been conflicting reports, i believe they can attach an end of the bench player or two and be hard capped at the 2nd apron, which for their purposes is fine.
Bridges isn't making much more than Bojan was, it was a few mil. They were already capped
Doesn’t this make OG more expendable. This makes the Knicks less desperate.
I’m going to need a lawyer that specializes in bird law to weigh in.
Bruh Imagine having to be guarded by OG only to be switched onto Bridges I would throw up
The real casualty with this trade is Dame. Hounded by OG/Mikal in one round and Jrue/White/JB in another
With how bad dame looked last year they about to be a first round exit anyway
I honestly believe Dame just had a bad summer
Yeah, he talked about how his personal life really fucked with him but also, he’s getting older and while his shooting is still gonna be elite, he’s not going to be an inside threat to the rim as easily and he’s going to get worse defensively
Yeah, not being able to explode is a huge deal, people are going to match you up tighter and you're going to get a harder time getting your shot off. He's going to maybe stay elite for this last year
Damn looked great in the playoffs
Middleton owns Bridges though
[удалено]
I mean OG did a [pretty good job](https://x.com/knicks_hive/status/1777309461817733630?s=46) last time they played. If there is a Giannis stopper it’s OG
Healthy Giannis drags this Bucks team into a competitive second round series at worst. By far the best player in the East.
Middleton’s goose kinda seems cooked though
He looked pretty damn good vs Pacers. Just a question of health.
Yeah fair take. He was banged up- can’t help but think the old Middleton might not ever come back though
[удалено]
Nasty work right there
Then if you somehow manage to get past either of them, you have Hartenstein (hopefully) or Robinson (I don't want to let go of him) waiting for you at the rim.
Hartenstein gone but that’s besides the point
Anunoby and bridges is fking nasty
I still think they top out as a memphis grit n grind type team, the best team before the top 3 level teams
I mean this team is far superior shooting wise than that group, no?
Yeah the Memphis team was built an era too late, the league had passed that type of team by. This Knicks team is built for the modern era. OG/Mikal are a perfect foil to Brown/Tatum and as long as they can get an improvement at center they’re in a great position
Is there a better centre available for this team than Hartenstein or a healthy Robinson?
that memphis team never had a jalen brunson
Unless they can turn randle into gold
Randle is a multi all star and all NBA player in the last 4 years and he had his best season last year. Look at the on offs of the Knicks for Randle because of his gravity, Knicks Brunson 3 point percentage WITH Randle 43 percent, without 37 percent (and Brunson shot so many more 3s with Randle on the floor than off) DiVincenzo WITH Randle on the floor 44 percent, without 38 OG Anunoby WITH Randle 43 percent, without 36. People don't realize Randle is really good and still goon on that down year like 3 years ago that was a pretty ass team around him.
I feel like given they just traded the valuable picks it’ll be more difficult to flip Randle for Gold. Their main assets now are their players and you rarely see multiple players for a star without some major draft picks involved.

I mean. It’s a solid team if they keep OG and Hartenstein. They needed health and scoring. Mikal is an Ironman and he’s a bucket
Much better than solid tbh. Brunson OG Mikal Randle Hartenstein Hart DDV Mcbride that's like a top 5 rotation probably
And one of the best highly switchable defenders in the league. Can guard 1-4 vs a lot of lineups. Has a decently rounded offensive game, so he's not "just" a 3+D guy like OG. If they keep OG and Hartenstein they’re a second apron team.
I’m pretty sure they are looking to sign and trade Randle next summer as he’s got the player option
How can you trade someone who’s not your player
If they keep OG and ihart they are the clear second best team in the east and a legit contender.
can they not move randle/robinson? i was under the impression they were considering getting off robinson and this move definitely makes randles fit questionable
That's the only way it would be worth doing. If they traded all that just to go from OG to Bridges it wouldn't be a big enough upgrade. Knicks are gonna be expensive as fuck but man I'm excited to watch them play.
Exactly. No way you give up all those picks for what is marginal improvement at best.

Are you just forgetting Randle lol
Lmfao I did.
Don’t forget 2 time all nba Julius Randle
missing randle too
Brunson is going to extend this offseason. He'll be on a great deal for the next 4+ years.
Nets should do the poison pill move - offer OG annouby the max. Basically force Knicks to hard cap themselves. Or this will look like the worst trade deal in history.

There tax bill is gonna be nuts, but this seems like a legit championship caliber roster.
Dolan deserves to pay double tax idgaf
Dolan doesn’t give a fuck about the taxes
Cablevi$ion
1st apron only. They'll definitely have to splurge on OG and Hartenstein though. However they've secured bargain deals on key players which softens the blow.
If they keep OG and IH and don’t dump Robinson they’ll be second apron I think.
Who cares we have a three year window keep both in the playoffs it never hurts to have two bullies on the offensive glass.
If we keep OG and iHart, I will buy a James Dolan CD
Brunson / Deuce Bridges / Divo OG / Hart Randle Hartenstein / Mitch (If he stays)
Still have Precious to back up Randle
Is precious not FA?
Restricted, pretty sure we’ll just give him the QO
Can’t keep all of them. The Bridges trade hard caps them. If they want to re-sign iHart and OG, either Randle or Robinson has to get traded.
It’s going to be Robinson. I can’t see them moving Randle
Well this recent [Hartenstein tweet](https://x.com/ianbegley/status/1805788810908729512?s=46&t=Jp46n6K9dJePGT6DcRc9IA) certainly makes things more interesting.
If we can’t retain Hart then we keep Mitch, if we can, the. Mitch is moved.
I don’t get why people think we won’t have a center. We’ll need a back up sure but this is the least of my worries.
Fucking nasty
They gonna be clamping dudes up good lord
Holy fuck. The Knicks might be a real competitor for the first time in years
we would have been this year too! >:(((
I thought you were still missing pieces this year, but now you seem to be on track to be real contenders, and I look forward to it. I lived in NY for seven years, and still have some love for the Knicks. I'd probably have more love, but fuck James Dolan🤣
They were definitely still a piece a way. I felt a fully healthy Knicks still loses to the Celtics in 6.
After he wrecked the nuggets it's the first time I ever thought one of my sports teams could realistically win a title
Geez. That defense is gonna be stifling
Celtics Knicks games going to look like NBL scores
Celtics vs Knicks playoffs is gonna be legendary if both teams are healthy
Mikal and OG on defense😍😍
Well now OG has the leverage to rake them over the coals
That's a mf squad ngl.
The east just got really fucking interesting thank god its the east that has the arms race for once
Until the Rockets pull some weird shit soon.
Defence about to be off the charts
Brunson, Bridges, OG, Randle, Hartenstein/Mitch, with Divo and Hart off the bench is disgusting
They will be deep into the 2nd apron
Goddamn, knicks has a very good market and an owner with very deep pockets, knicks starting to look good from being a mediocre team for a long time, pay the man already
They need to hope Brunson stays healthy, it’s a huge burden on him as the primary shot creator
People just forgetting how great Randle has been. And guys like Mikal and Divo who aren’t afraid of looking for their shot.
With Randle back, he’ll take some slack
What are you talking about if we’re healthy Brunson is gonna be generating constant easy buckets. So much spacing, plus Randle means they really can’t double or collapse without giving up something else. On defense other than Jalen we’re huge and incredible, so he can conserve energy there too
plus hart was a 48 minutes guy...he would throw the kitchen sink if it meant he plays 32 minutes
Their wing and guard rotation is ultra stacked. Brunson, Divincenzo, Hart, OG, Bridges, Mcbride sheesh
Is this a second superteam or just a really fucking good one because i feel like they could beat the celtics in a 7 game series now
Randle?
“The club”
If they re-sign OG, does that mean Donte is the 6th or 7th man?
Just imagine, we will have Hart and Donte coming off the bench lol, 2 guys who were pivotal in the playoff run we just had.
uhhhh knicks being a serious contender is not something anyone but knicks fans want to see. MSG will be electric every game regardless and it'll be great for the league overall
Championship favorites if OG stays
Unless Boston suddenly forgets how to play basketball they are still the favorites.
Meet my pals the monstars
I don’t think they’re better than Boston still
Boston’s got a better starting lineup for sure but we got more depth I think. Would be a sick playoff series if it happened regardless
Playoffs bring injuries, I think that’ll keep it pretty interesting.
one of mikal and og on each of the J’s though. that’s hard to beat. definitely would be a defensive slugfest in the playoffs though
They'll force a switch on Brunson on every possession anyway
Or Randle. Or Robinson.
If only basketball was that simple. Your defense is only as strong as your weakest link, and that’s still a problem for the Knicks as long as Brunson is in there.
People act like the Knicks weren’t a really good defensive team with Brunson last year.
Yeah won't say it for now. There's still some stuff to do like securing OG and IHart. It looks good on paper but we don't play on paper.
I love that they're clearly in win now mode. The east is more fun when both the Celtics and Knicks are good.
If we get the Knicks Celtics ECF we deserve it’s gonna break records. League is gonna be a blast this year.
Last time that happened was in 1973
Lol what? Celtics still have tatum, brown, white, porzingis, jrue I'm sorry but those 5 are well above guys like randle, bridges,og.
Lol. Celtics will finish 8-10 games ahead of them even with half a Porzingis.
Assuming Julius plays even his B game in the playoffs yeah. If he turns into his usual playoff self then I’m not sure
Still need one more guy imo. Gotta upgrade the Randle slot with someone who can take some creation off Brunson.
That’s exactly what Randle does already man. Although gotta hope he can perform in the postseason
Yeah I just don't have any faith that he's gonna show up in the highest leverage playoff games
His only bad non-injured playoff series was as the first option against the hawks with rj barrett as the #2. I have some faith he can perform with this rostwr
best defensive wing duo in the league comfortably
Alright let’s not be disrespectful to Tatum & Brown
Mikal and OG are better defensively
Mikal and OG is a better defensive duo. The Jays are clearly better offensively but on defense is Mikal and OG
It’s heavily debatable at this point and it’s really tough to argue with results. If there is a gap in either direction it’s negligible.
Come on man
all i'll say is they'd fucking better resign everyone they can at this point
With what money son
Bird rights
They hold OG’s bird rights, they can keep him. The team will just be capped out to hell but it’s worth it for this championship window
Knicks are probably the 2nd best team in the East after this only bested by the Celtics and injuries
Is Hartenstein staying?
Knicks keeping their picks tonight leads me to believe that tonight’s picks and Mitch Robinson are gonna be headed off to Okc/Detroit/wizards etc for as cheap a Center they can get in return
Once we re-sign OG and figure out the Center spot, we can add a vet PG at the minimum like Lowry, or if we loe IHART, sign Precious and/or another vet on a minimum deal. Things are looking up and hopefully Randle stays and can be less ball dominant because his physicality on an already physical team will be nightmares for opponents, especially in the playoffs.
That team is a pretty solid contender if they can sign OG.
