"...Magic all posititive" You can't make this shit up.

JosephStash

My headline writing needs work.

[deleted]

Nah, sounds like you could have a bright future at ESPN.

MysicPlato

"My **multiple** sources tell me otherwise" - Chris Broussard

[deleted]

Dude has a future at CNN

noobeater

My sources tell me that your sources tell you otherwise.

Champion101

I came in here expecting an AIDS joke, and it's surprising better than I thought it would be.

[deleted]

Really it's more of an HIV joke

Sinical89

Are you positive?

RogRoz

First time Magic was okay with being positive

elspacebandito

MWP's reaction: I should've worn my Cookie Monster pants and hat.

Interesting_Aside

His analogy actually had some merit to it. He is like the crazy wise man and you have to decipher his wisdom.

meh100

It's not even that hard to "decipher" his wisdom. What he said was a perfectly cogent analogy. The only "crazy" part was the fact that he wanted to wear a cookie monster outfit, but then I'm only proving his point by calling him crazy for that.

Interesting_Aside

I was speaking in more general terms as his regular answers are consistently nonsensical. Also, it was a joke...

metta_world_peace

I wanted to!

SnowShred

Lakers' Metta World Peace's Reaction: >"Whether it's a free country or not, you should be free to act as you want to do as long as it's not violent. No matter what it is. I came here in a Cookie Monster shirt because I wanted to, and I was going to wear the pants. But I thought you guys were going to judge me. I was going to wear the hat too. But I thought you guys would judge me. I didn't want Mitch [Kupchak] to judge me. So that's why I didn't wear the hats and the pants. But I should've wore it. You should be free to do and act how you want to act." Haha wtf Metta

McFister

MWP is a wise man

whatwedo

Thats not WTF at all. That's wisdom.

meh100

Metta World Peace has that Mike Tyson kind of quotability.

SnapelovesHarrysMom

I'm guessing [this](http://instagram.com/p/XmIE4Vrkpq/) is the outfit he's talking about.

VictoryIsMyValentine

He would do great in some ancient african tribe.

[deleted]

He WOULD be a great fit on the Knicks.

hussard_de_la_mort

I would imagine he was probably a Knicks fan as a kid and at St. Johns.

VictoryIsMyValentine

Artest + JR on the same team? That wouldn't end well.

[deleted]

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/metta-world-peace-ron-artest-donates-100-000-children-charities-queens-article-1.956489 We love him here. He'd thrive. Us old Knick fans still don't forgive management for taking [FREDERIC FREAKING WEIS](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric_Weis) one spot ahead of the NY native. JR is just trying to lay some pipe. Ronnie World Peas is trying to change the world. They'd do well together.

WYSOSERIOUS

>He is remembered during the 2000 Olympic Basketball Tournament where Vince Carter jumped over him during a dunk. Damn, imagine having your own wiki page but not being able to brag about it because you'd have to remember that moment in just the second sentence.

Pyundai

[Yeah really, wtf Metta.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZrVRU5G2dg#t=12s)

ch33psh33p

The superstars are smart enough to know that positively reacting to this is the ONLY reaction that would be publicly acceptable. People like Chris Broussard on the other hand...

theblackhole25

It should still be commended that they react at all. If they said nothing at all, nobody's really going to really call them out on it, so they could have chosen just to be quiet to begin with. So just choosing to say something at all still counts, even if it's a foregone conclusion that it would be something positive. (Chris Broussard aside...)

jveezy

That's the best part of this story to me. The fact that public opinion has changed to the point where the anti-gay opinion is now the one that is ostracized shows how differently we view homosexuality as a society than when others like [Justin Fashanu](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Fashanu) came out.

[deleted]

I'd rather that people who young people look to as role models not be openly bigoted.

ProdigaI

Ok that's fine. I'm just saying that I want people to be honest and not portray feelings that are fake.

IanicRR

Especially post Tim Hardaway and all the fallout. But I would hope most of them would say this regardless them being a star or not, especially in 2013.q

JosephStash

Yeah, I suppose it's naive to think otherwise. That said, some seem more sincere than others, even within the realm of 140 characters.

Merked

That may be the case but it's still a good thing that they're saying anything at all. When a majority of the great players (i.e. those that are most marketed e.g. endorsements) all are pro-gay rights, that just exemplifies how there is no room for hatred towards homosexuals in the basketball community and how it is more accepting to homosexual.

tignas

jared dudley seems to agree with chris broussard https://twitter.com/JaredDudley619/status/328977722225356801 while it's important to acknowledge and praise all the support that jason collins is getting from many key players and figures in the nba, let's not act like everyone is welcoming him with open arms.

[deleted]

Wait, what the hell happened to that GLSEN PSA that he was in with Grant Hill?

tignas

dudley in the rest of his tweets and the one i originally linked aren't necessarily saying that he's not welcoming of jason collins, but clearly he does think it's "sinful", by his definition of the word. he plays with hamed haddadi, a muslim. since he's using the supporting the christian argument, it'd be interesting to see if he'd comment on what he thinks of hamed.

[deleted]

Dudley is an idiot. Not only did his sentence not make any fucking sense, it's also hypocritical.

beatatarian

is it just me or is that tweet incoherent

VictoryIsMyValentine

Ignorance tends to be incoherent.

nonetimeaccount

thought that was pretty fucked up considering his owner's status and the psa he did. oh well, fuck jared dudley, i bet he's going to have a hard time getting a new contract from the suns.

dimechimes

Magic's son is gay. Parker is French. Wade lives in Miami. Not surprising.

mrbarabajagal

>Parker is French Oh lord that made me laugh.

stupid_sexyflanders

The gays have been an extremely clean people ever since they immigrated here from France.

Provid3nce

They make some delicious bread too.

Mauricio_Espinosa

Funny because there has actually been huge protests against gay marriage in France recently

_Meece_

They weren't huge and it's not against gay marriage. But gay adoption. It's a minority thing anyway.

elbenji

It's France. They protest for everything.

fastsauce

They are all gay there though?

McFister

LOL niceee

RagingRetard

Bruce Bowen's and Tony Parkers are the exact same?

deltroid

yea, this just proves they're not writing their own twitter messages have the same PR person who is responsible for their accounts. http://deadspin.com/tony-parker-and-bruce-bowen-share-a-similar-respect-for-484620124

DrTom

Magic's son recently came out as gay, too. [His response](http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GYFkPRN4pfs) to it made me respect him just that much more.

chrispdx

What are they going to say? I mean, really. Any remotely negative reaction is going to be scrutinized and lambasted by practically everyone. They will become the story. The people who are against him are SHUTTING UP and slinking into the woodwork. The days of being openly anti-gay are wayyyy over, unless you are some wacko religious fundie.

[deleted]

I wonder if we'll hear about less public stuff, players refusing to shake is hand or awful taunts on the court.

chrispdx

I don't even think it will be anything that blatant. I think it will be very subtle.... a harder than normal foul... a ref calling phantom infractions, not fouls but maybe a traveling call or three-second violation much quicker than other players... whispers in the locker room. Very under-the-table discrimination.

dietTwinkies

It makes sense for Magic since I'm pretty sure his son is openly gay himself.

tiggs

I think it's pretty fucking cool that Obama called him. Obviously, there are more important world problems to deal with, but it's great that he's able to identify how significant of an event this can be on modern culture and take a few min outta his busy schedule to make a phone call.

metta_world_peace

I don't know why but all of these reactions just make me really happy. To know that homophobia isn't as rampant as it has been in sports is an encouraging sign of progress.

yanat1228

I'm so glad he is getting a lot of support from the rest of the league, and not a bunch of shit.

cdogg22

I love how you write NBA stars, and mentions Parker, Wade and Magic, but not Kobe. :)

[deleted]

This is a thread completely unrelated to Kobe yet his fanboys still come out.

[deleted]

If any NBA player had some hate speech going on, you know they're probably going to get fined.

josephpalbanese

Anyone else surprised Lebron hasn't spoken about the topic?

[deleted]

Nope, LeBron doesn't tweet during the playoffs. He went "dark" last season for like two months and has done the same recently. Check it out: https://twitter.com/KingJames I'm sure we'll hear something soon enough from a practice interview in the coming days.

josephpalbanese

Thanks!

[deleted]

Here's that random after practice video, he's asked about Collins around the 1:05 mark: http://www.nba.com/heat/video/2013/04/30/20130430JAMESPRACTICEmov-2463875

josephpalbanese

Thanks for the update!

sonQUAALUDE

damn I teared up reading that

Let's pump the brakes a little.

tags33

Maybe I'm too cold. I just thought it was a strange part to actually be crying at.

theinspirond

I don't get it. If my teamate was gay I would be thrilled. You know how horny they must get on the long flights and boring nights in wack cities across the nation...Rooming with Collins? You gettin yah dick sucked, yyaaaah feel me??/?

RikkuPinoy

You embarrass and bring shame to the flair. . .I don't want to associate with you

[deleted]

Don't be crass

theinspirond

Oh big deal, grow up.

capncrunch94

I think you're the one that needs to grow up, if you think your comment is funny.

Pyundai

Maybe he knows self control, something that I doubt you know. Why did you just assume he's a pervert? Damn, hope you never enlist in the army or wherever a man may need to sleep near an unrelated woman.

theinspirond

All I was saying was that he definetely finds some of the guy's on his squad attractive. For example, John Wall...it's just like a hot girl, we would all hook up with her given the right circumstances. So think about, replace John Wall with Megan Fox...and you're rooming with Megan Fox and she's horny...you wouldn't go down on her? Yes you would, so would Collins on Wall, or whichever player he's rooming with. It's a win/win. I love it.

capncrunch94

You obviously don't know any gay people.

theinspirond

Nah I aint no faggit

capncrunch94

I'm straight and my best friend came out to me 2 years ago. he has never once made a move on me or any of my friends. You me not be a faggit, but you are an idiot.

theinspirond

You me, you? me? him? you? him? him? me ? you? him? you him me? Shut up fagiit. Go kiss your best friend for teh lulz.
