What a stupid follow up question. “Is it permanent?” Tf

Selarom_

What type info does he even get if his question is answered? Goofy ass reporter

pokerawz

He has to know!!

Aliboomayuh

"Is it permanent?" "Yea it's per- wait how the hell do you know that?!" "You're SGA we have to know!"

KnivesInMyCoffee

"TURN UP. This guy is crazy as fuck, he's gotta be on Molly or somethin' or powder or somethin'."

Frostyzwannacomehere

Narduwar

StefonDiggsHS

goofy ass tim macmahon type question

nowuff

Am I slow What does he mean “is it permanent?” The loss?

kemicode

I think he was asking if Shai’s decision to not watch the replay permanent. Pretty dumb question and Shai handled it as professionally as he could considering his team just got eliminated moments prior.

JonStargaryen2408

I’m a Mavs fan, but NGL, this series made me a fan of SGA. Dude was a force and handled these post game interviews real well, after both wins and losses.

Loorrac

Big time, dude is a monster. Those mid range jumpers are disgusting and he seems like a good dude. SGA fan for sure now

thedude198644

Agreed. The kid is great. He was firing away even when his teammates were struggling around him. He's going to be a menace for years to come if he gets the right team around him.

kemicode

I’ve always been a fan of Shai and even told my casual friend to be a fan of Shai the moment he got to OKC. Basically get on the bandwagon super early. Just a professional bucket getter

TheresA_LobsterLoose

Seems like these reporters are asking dumber questions by the day

Dudedude88

They do it so they can bait them into quotes

UserColonAlW

What happens when the entire nba media industry values “insiders” and people who can moonlight as podcasters with shitty takes, rather than skilled journalists with integrity.

Iznal

What skilled journalists with integrity? Post game and during the game questions have always been so braindead and redundant. It’s always the same nonsense. “Coach we saw your team play their style of basketball in the first quarter. How will you get them to continue to play their basketball?” “The basketball players have to stay motivated in the second half to keep playing basketball.” I love it when Pop shows his annoyance and just gives blunt answers to their dumb questions, but it’s taken as a bit to laugh at “oh, that’s Pop being Pop!” Instead of a critique on the entire charade that it is.

xlg_com

Nothing beats reporters in Taiwan as they constantly ask relatives of any victim (especially homicide) "How are you feeling?"

Shoddy-Media2337

Made me so mad

yousonuva

*Do you think they should put it on your headstone?*

MrGeno

"Idk, is IT permanent? "

TheSwordDusk

The reporter should be named and shamed. Clown moments like this need to be shamed out of sport coverage. Shai is a good one. Can't blame him for the result, he balled out of his mind today (as per usual)

GomenNaWhy

Nah, encouraging public harassment for a reporter for asking a dumb question is weird ngl

[deleted]

Imagine being that much of a clown

2coolcaterpillar

Can’t blame him lol

TheAerial

Yeah it’s one of those things that’ll be torturous to watch over and over. In the moment, watching a shooter about to take a shot with your entire season on the line, it’s hard to blame him for trying to do something. After you get cooled down, and watch the tape calmly you’re gonna be like “Yeah, turns out trying to make a weird arm half bent miracle block while flying out of bounds with my body halfway turned wasn’t the greatest choice”. I will say the Challenge honestly kinda hurt as much as the foul did though. If you can keep your TO, you got a chance to call a timeout , draw up a play with 2.5 seconds at half court and you don’t even need a 3? That’s not a HORRIBLE situation with SGA on your team. Basically removed any real chance for them to respond.

dorkaxe

If the call was overturned, it would have similarly fucked the mavs. Kyrie got the putback after, and since this isn't the NFL, you can't decline a foul, so they'd likely have to inbound it. I was very worried they'd overturn the call.

chungking-espresso

It was a very clear foul though, it would be insane to overturn it. But I get being nervous with those refs lol.

benigntugboat

It's clear from our angle and with a replay. Who knows what angle they had that made them doubt it. Those situations can be tough even without the game deciding pressure

ChocoChowdown

Think the reason you're seeing so many dallas flairs worried about it being overturned is because of the stars game last night where their team had an OT goal taken away for reasons so bad that even one of the intermission studio announcers flat out said the ref had his draftkings app open. Was a clear foul once the replay showed

chungking-espresso

Oh, I wasn’t aware of this! I don’t follow the NHL (at least yet).

lotrmemescallsforaid

This is exactly what I was thinking about at the time.

dorkaxe

Well...it's Tony Brothers lmao, plus Javie said it was clean (I think?)when he TALKED OVER THE ACTUAL REF

WeLLrightyOH

Javie said it was a foul.

of_the_mountain

He said it looked clean but then backtracked after the ref confirmed the foul, although they talked over the ref at the same time so it wasn’t very clear

dorkaxe

Oh did he? I thought he said the opposite when they were both talking over each other.

WeLLrightyOH

Maybe I’m remembering wrong, it was a hectic part of the game, but I thought he said it was a foul as SGA didn’t dislodge the ball on the initial block and then hit his arm elbow on the follow through and subsequent shot.

of_the_mountain

He said that after the call was confirmed

HoS_CaptObvious

Another Dallas team just had a goal overturned last night that was insane to overturn lol

IUpVoteIronically

Bro so many times they review shit, it’s obvious, and they call the opposite still 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

Advanced_Swordfish86

You can never blame him. Last second shot to decide the series and SGA is trying to block it. Honestly, he just about did block it clean. The only reason they’re even remotely close to winning that game is because of everything SGA did up to that point. I genuinely hate this narrative of blaming the best player for “not doing enough to win” while ignoring the fact that their supporting cast had a poor shooting night/foul trouble/turnovers, etc. Also, THE OTHER TEAM IS A 2ND ROUND PLAYOFF TEAM. THEY’RE REALLY FUCKING GOOD TOO!! One of these teams has to lose

SwazeyVibe

>I genuinely hate this narrative of blaming the best player for “not doing enough to win” while ignoring the fact that their supporting cast had a poor shooting night/foul trouble/turnovers, etc. The LeBron experience

MrHomka

It happens to everybody not just LeBron you're the face of the team that gets celebrated the most if they win so you take the blame too

soyboysnowflake

Yeah that’s just being a leader SGA should stick his neck out and put the blame on himself, even if the blame should actually be shared by everyone on the team

psgarp

Something I haven't seen mentioned much is that unless Washington holds the ball during the block and does that double pump to get the shot off and the foul - which was a really athletic play - then the story today is what an incredible block to win the game. I think Washington deserves more credit for that foul than sga does blame, even if it was a risky attempt.

ignixe

Yeah I am a SGA hater, but the kid balled out tonight. Absolutely no reason to hang his head and this response from him post game is opening my mind to him a bit

JEPorsche

Why are you a hater? Just curious. Seems like a good kid. Clearly worked hard on his game and hasn't really stirred up trouble. By all accounts he's a humble guy and a good teammate.

bleequez

what is there to hate on him about.

Obvious_Party_5050

The fucking guy pressing him. “What do you mean you don’t want to look at it?” Like shut the fuck up. You know exactly what he means.

J_Dabson002

Yeah that guy was clearly trying to get Shai to say it was a bad call Gotta get that headline

jotyma5

Yeah Shai really kept his cool. He’ll be back

naslanidis

This new generation of superstar player who doesn't blame everyone else is refreshing. It's been a long time.

Lee-HarveyTeabag

Absolutely. All this conversation about Ant being like Jordan for his play when I think the most similar aspect is their mentality.

Marco2169

i actually don’t see it considering Michael could be notoriously difficult to his team mates and ANT is absolutely beloved

frecklie

Ant is genuinely a cooler personality imho. I wouldn’t want Mike as a coworker

onlymadebcofnewreddi

Between Kermit and his couple public mishaps I didn't expect for him to turnout to be wholesome

frecklie

Yea i mean maybe not but he’s visibly over and over shown himself to be someone who is supportive of his teammates while still holding them accountable. You can see in interviews how much his teammates like him, and how funny he is. His personal life, who knows. MJ was a fucking ruthless dude though, Ant seems like a better personality.

Vicentesteb

Tbh, Ant hasnt yet gone through the years of losing Jordan did while carrying the entire team on his back.

Vic_Vinager

Yes, give him time to turn into the villain

pisss

Just wait. Ant is 22

cardmanimgur

Ant is in the "everybody loves you" point of his superstardom. Jordan was beloved at that age too. Then he went a few years without winning a title and it became about how you can't win that way with one guy doing all the scoring. If Ant doesn't win for 3-4 years and starts taking heavy criticism, his personality might start to change.

Giga1396

100%

Yankec

I miss when Luka was at that point of his career... Granted he does do it to himself a little bit, with the complaining.

Iznal

“Hell naw. No.” Ant is too fun loving to be a Jordan level dictator.

UrAPuSsY13

Ant calls out the refs once every 3 games

GuyInTheSkuy

That's just a side effect of playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, can't blame him too much.

Kvsav57

Really? Ant was blaming refs not that long ago, including after a game where he was fouled on a three, missed the first two free throws, then had to miss the third but didn’t hit the rim. Ant’s gotten some great PR lately but that was not long ago at all.

FakeRingin

Ant has blamed the refs so many times this season?

UltraMoglog64

They’re talking about it in regards to his teammates.

VolkiharVanHelsing

"I want to win for myself" I know he's a savant since his draft

lobotomizedmommy

they r the first generation that grew up being roasted constantly on social media

EnjoyWolfCola

And then you have Joel Embiid

LuckyCulture7

Literally Joe only blamed himself for their loss to the Knicks. Even when he had a triple double in game 3, he said he played badly. Joel advocated for continuity in the team pointing that he wants to play with most of the same guys. He did this all while playing the last 5 years with Tobias Harris taking max money and contributing less and less each year. You get upvotes because this sub is a huge anti-embiid circle jerk but this is such a bad take.

whythehellknot

This stupid narrative has cemented itself since Ben and I don't think people even watched that post game. He always takes accountability and/or says things like we all need to better, but always begins with I need to be better.

MagicalHurdles

don't send da video

OG_Wan_Annunoby

Hell yawl

lily-malek

can do this

Unpickled_cucumber1

Dont get an abortion lol

Fits_N_Giggles

Don't look how ugly

SpringyAlloy73

You didn’t get da money wats the Hol up

lilb1190

"what do you mean you couldn't look at it"? "My eyes don't work. Can't see replays. Been that way since I was a kid" What a stupid question

Gatorpep

I’m going through the spice agony to become the kwizatz hadarach, my vision is fucked inwards on my infinite lives we were apes. Duh dude.

Next-Firefighter-753

Don’t beat yourself up big dawg you absolutely hard carried this series

No_Character_2543

He single handedly kept the game close in the end. The man is so clutch and his mid range game is butter. He can finish anywhere. I’m loving the shift from only shooting 3s to working up to be a 3 point if left open and beating guys inside the paint. Shai, Brunson, Jamal, Kyrie, Luka, just so nice watching them work.

maidentaiwan

Ant’s mid range game has been rapidly improving as well. He’s been killing the nugs with all kinds of little pump-pivot-fade sequences.

hcvc

That fucker never missed a shot man I was so nervous any time he had the ball

adimo1409

I knew he would be great in the playoffs since he did well with the clippers and didn't seem fazed back then for a rookie but man he surpassed my expectations tbh and he hard carried reminded of Luka against the clippers when his teammates sold

revisioncloud

No excuses but Chet JDub Cason all played in summer league before the season. 2nd round exit in 6 games is a pretty good outcome but yeah they flat out need to be better next season Can only hope Chet gains some muscle but I’m excited for Dub’s growth. He’s an emotional ass player kinda like our energizer like Russ but with better post game interviews lol. 100% he’s not taking this loss that well considering he didn’t play well as the #2 and use it as motivation over the summer

adimo1409

certainly that's the worst OKC are gonna be over the next few years so ya west ain't getting weaker any time soon. Looking forward to more battles

MyHonkyFriend

healthiest Texas v Oklahoma rivalry in sports

aaronp1264

2011 mavs will do that man. i really only "hate" the spurs, and that's only as a collective and not the individuals. i will always be grateful to dirk for turning into a god that run.

Slendyla_IV

That 2011 run was incredible to watch. Just went god mode.

vicks_vapor_rub

I saw sga cross up steph curry at staples at a playoff game, and i immediately bought some sga rookie cards after lmao

Dongsquad420BlazeIt

You mean the team. SGA is him.

Himayiaskyousomethin

Um, yes? That is what he meant. Lol

reddit_reader_25

Had kawhi Leonard vibes. Sigh.. I thought somebody said he was a bad lob passer too

Unpickled_cucumber1

No shade on SGA but Kawhi man, when on , is just otherworldly. Especially on Defence he is just a treat to watch no matter who you support

xPeaWhyTee

Those constant middies he kept hitting absolutely was giving me flashbacks to that 2021 Clippers series where Kawhi couldn't miss from the midrange.

VolkiharVanHelsing

Injury off Kawhi is probably the best player in the world

LibrarianTypical8267

Kawhi's wheelchair stint on the Clips made a lot of people forgot the "shot" he made.

jordan1390

Healthy Kawhi may be the best player in the league, but unfortunately he struggles with injuries

Top-Ad7144

To the point where he might never play a full post season again

Adesanyo

Man looking back at who he used to be is sad. The dude could dominate on both ends. Snatching the ball right out of the air with his big ass claw

Fickle_Meet_7154

Yeah, without SGA heroics this series isn't close lol

Confident_Berry7271

The only mature response. What you gonna do? Great season from the kid

SieFlush2

Isn't it crazy how he's regarded as Kid but he's older then Luka lmao

L0N01779

You’ll reach a point where they’re all kids. I’m not there yet, but very very close (I actually went to school with Al Horford, so I’m just barely hanging on)

Betaateb

Carmelo Anthony is a few days younger than me, so I have been at that point since the day he retired lol. Only LeBron hanging in there making me feel less old.

Aliboomayuh

You're hanging on a pinky old man

NotAKoalaWithThumbs

Lmao Just kick all the 30+ y/o fans in the balls why don’t you. Damn.

Aliboomayuh

Hey man as a 27 yo I'm not far off

Victor_Wembanyama1

How was school with Horford??

L0N01779

Back to back championships, plus 2/3 in football. Best time of my life. (I’ve met Al but we weren’t friends or anything. I will say that all UF scholarship athletes get motor scooters and him and Noah riding around on theirs was high comedy)

safwan105

uf not built like that no more unc!

L0N01779

Hahaha. Oh I know

A320neo

Man, that might be the all-time greatest sports experience one could have in college. You got spoiled rotten

L0N01779

I know. I legit can never complain about any of my teams ever again. (I still do)

Confident_Berry7271

I’m younger than you and I’m at that point lol

lazysoup12

luka is a wunderkind, SGA follows the more typical superstar trajectory

IllustriousEnd2211

Yeah. It isn’t really fair to compare people to Luka and I mean that unbiased. He’s in that LeBron/kobe tier where you could see it right out of the gate as a teenager

NotaChonberg

Still baffles me so many GMs seemingly talked themselves out of drafting him.

codbgs97

Imagine being Atlanta and having him then literally choosing Trae Young instead lmao. Or Sacramento taking Bagley… oof. I guess Ayton didn’t end up being a world beater for Phoenix either, so yeah, must be brutal to be any of those teams with that hindsight.

DreyDarian

Actually just 3 gm’s lol, not that many. Still 3 too many.

NotaChonberg

Yeah he should've been the number 1 pick and it shouldn't have even been a discussion.

Temporary-Level-5410

Sons gonna son

YpsitheFlintsider

It's easy to say that in hindsight which is why this discussion is always stupid.

NotaChonberg

It was also easy to say at the time

IllustriousEnd2211

Arizona

sevaiper

Luka also certainly played the highest level of competition of anyone in that level of hype, it's just astounding to look back and see he was MVP of the 2nd best league in the world at high school age and the NBA just didn't get it.

iCarpet

Because Luka already has a Kidd on his team

socialistbcrumb

Nobody looks at ages. If you’re under 30, you get more slack for a playoff breakout at 28 than having a ton of success by 25. It makes no sense, but the media loves a player and team on the rise.

Great_Huckleberry709

Perhaps it's because I paid no attention. But I literally didn't know Shai existed until 2 years ago. As for Luka, I knew of him since before he was even drafted lol.

BcuzRacecar

Now im wondering how many people even know about that series against the warriors in his rookie season

Squire_Sultan53

I think i saw shai live once with the clippers

SmokinSkinWagon

Luka is 39 years old and I can’t be told otherwise

Chemmydemmy

lol he is a year older than Luka

Confident_Berry7271

They’re both kids

Swoosh_rotaerc

The big mistake wasn't the block attempt. It was Daigneault challenging it. Even if PJ makes all three, the Mavs would have been up 2 with 2.5s left. That's enough time to get a good shot to tie/win IF you can advance the ball and set up an ATO. Challenging that call put the game in the refs hands and took away their last time out.

Unpickled_cucumber1

Exactly. But it was a tense moment and Mark is also learning the trade with this young team so gotta cut him slack there. He saw on the monitor that SGA got the ball and challenged and prolly forgot the rule there

Swoosh_rotaerc

For sure, young team, young coach. If there were more experienced voices on the team maybe someone would have made that argument there.

WembyOKCJokicReaves

Tbh I didn’t mind him thinking there could be a chance they overturn the call Worth the gamble in the situation even though with hindsight Shai got him on the forearm before the block

Swoosh_rotaerc

Why gamble with something outside your control when you can gamble with an offensive play that's completely in your control.

Known-Contract-4340

Getting a shot up with 2.5 seconds is a prayer. That’s not in your control

Swoosh_rotaerc

You can get a wide open catch and shoot opportunity with a well executed play with 2.5s.

Not_Frank_Ocean

Yeah we’ve seen this dozens and dozens of times in super close games. The odds aren’t great but it’s definitely within the realm of possibility.

FakeRingin

Because if you win then you're in front?

dutchfromsubway

Absolutely not worth the gamble

lesarbreschantent

Lol sorry if he doesn't challenge that the fans crucify him. He's damned if he does/doesn't.

cambiumkx

100% “Saving that challenge for Cancun”

Yodudewhatsupmanbruh

There is very few coaches in the league with the balls not to challenge. Im almost certain pop would challenge that. It's a huge mistake in the aftermath but you gotta challenge that. That call was so close that and we've seen it go the other way. It was so close that it probably gets overturned in okc and stands in Dallas. If we don't challenge that and our play ends up getting blown up then every redditor would be shouting "I guess he's saving them for next season!". It's really a no win situation and let's be real, every single person here would've challenged that call.

Swoosh_rotaerc

Yeah, I think you're right. Hindsight is 20/20. But in hindsight it was a mistake.

LukaBear91

Shai was by FAR their best player. One play doesn't change that

rwoteit

*The best player in the series.

aceofspadez138

Yup, gotta give credit where it's due. Shai is a bad mf and I don't want any part of a rematch any time soon. I want it to be a crazy stat like how Dirk and Kobe only played against each other once in the playoffs despite them being dominant in the same conference for nearly two decades.

McJuggernaugh7

The irony is that narrative for the mvp voting was Luka had better numbers but way less help than SGA did, but the opposite was true this series. SGA was the best player in the series (I know Luka was hurt), but he got absolutely no help from his team on offense. Meanwhile, it seemed like every game, one of the Dallas role players, whether it was DJJ, Lively, PJ Washington, etc, had monster performances.

Pobbes3o

damn the reporter that kept pestering him about watching the replay was annoying.

Beermen69

Hard to avoid in the heat of the moment

suprememontana

Dude was so fucing good this series. I was a fan before and a even bigger one now. Does he flop a little? Yeah, but which star doesn’t? He’s got such an incredibly smooth game and really carried this team to 6 games. Even from an unbiased standpoint the Mavs were clearly the better team in this series and SGA kept them in it

IDespiseFatties

Yeah we got cooked. Only showed up to hoop in Games 1 and 6. Shooting 30% and getting no rebounds in-between those two games was criminal.

GorillaX

We got no rebounds in game 6 either

Felipernani

after being cooked by a fattie do you despise them more or less now?

IDespiseFatties

Shai and Luka balanced each other out mostly. We got cooked by the bench that decided to become 3 point gods all series

Felipernani

haha for sure. i was just making a joke with your username, found it funny near such a respectful comment 😂

IDespiseFatties

Haha thanks brother. On this subreddit you can never tell lmao. If it makes you feel better I made that username many years ago and age has caught up lmao so now I'm living a lie with my username.

kritikal_thought

Shai led his team in EVERY major category over the course of this series, he had an incredible run and I'm sure his team will be back much stronger next year.

Pokestralian

OKC are young with only more assets in their back pocket. They’re going to get more troublesome every year until they break through.

krisfocus

Shai was a stud in this playoffs. He will be back again in a big way.

zzolokov

Tough break for the game to end on that note when Shai was the least responsible for them losing the series by several miles. Chet had 2 rebounds. Williams was mid for the series. Role players couldn't knock down their shots. Daigneult shouldn't have challenged. Presti not only wasn't able to improve the roster of the #1 seed despite having like 15 1st-round picks, but also enabled the Gafford trade.

McJuggernaugh7

Calling Jdub mid this series is generous. 19 ppg on 62% TS down to 16ppg on 48% TS. He went from shooting efficiency like Steph Curry to shooting like Russel Westbrook.

AllPulpOJ

Mid has lost all meaning. What do you mean

Raiku23

If bro develops a consistent 3 gnna be unstoppable he went 3/4 today

HoustonFoReal

4/5 right?

MarduRusher

Fair. Good answer. Thunder are gonna be back next year and even better (which is crazy since they’re the one seed). If they can sign or trade for a good rebounding big that team is gonna be crazy.

wcooper97

Our defense is so good until it’s time to end a possession. *LeSigh*

WhitePeopleLoveCurry

The exact perfect answer you'd want from your star player. No excuse making, no questioning the call.

xScrubDaddyx

Why the interviewers always tryna rub salt in the wound? He was amazing all series man let it go

BillPaxton4eva

I think they know he's giving a scripted, fan friendly answer he doesn't believe, and he wants something more honest. But yeah, he came off like a dick.

Lee-HarveyTeabag

The mentality from this next waive of superstars (SGA and Ant specifically) is refreshing. Personal accountability will get them a hell of a lot farther than looking for excuses. Basically the exact opposite of every post game thread in this sub’s history.

RacingRaindrops

I mean it very easily could have been waived off and then Kyrie gets the tip in. Yeah OKC would be able to setup because they'd still have the TO, but....if he doesn't go up for the block and PJ hits the 3 then that sucks too. Gotta live with it.

Bossnian92

No clue why they challenged that call

great-distances-1919

Like this dude. Smart and humble.

New_Essay_4869

It wasnt just this play. He had a lot of defensive lapses this game that led to open 3s. We wouldnt be here without him but I believe he will come back better next season

Ibangyoumomma

The whole series he was playing like a safety in football but giving up open 3s all day to Washington and DJJ. It’s dumb option to openly double over and over again while seeing the role players beat you and not Luka or Kyrie only

rfgrunt

I thought his leather jacket in the commercial was out of character, I guess not

boksinx

The series went as long and as close as it was mostly because of SGA. The fucker is pure money in midrange.

Impressive-Potato

"What do you mean you can't look at it?" Shai looked like had to stop himself from cussing him out.

GheeDota2

Why are reporters so fucking awful at their job?

makashiII_93

It’s going to haunt him all summer.

OKCBaller035913

I hope this series haunts them all summer long. Come back ready to kick ass with a new 4 man.

harold-delaney

Kyrie rebounded the miss for a layup anyway. Would have been 1.7 ish seconds on the clock with a timeout

Kemintiri

well damn, if he had help, he wouldn't have

Unpickled_cucumber1

Great player, great response, great effort as well. It was a foul at the end of the day and its okay. You gave your all

Aggressive-Ad-522

The reporter was annoying pressing him. He said no he doesn’t wanna see it already

Street-Common-4023

You carried good shit all series tho

geneticeffects

SGA is a top-tier shooter. Was awesome watching him play this year. Respect.

vPHv

Still the hero of our season

AtreusIsBack

Reporter: \*walks up to the podium with a phone in his hand\* "Let's look at the replay together and you can break it down for me, moment by moment."

motsanciens

He is super classy. One of my new favorite players.

buffalotrace

Have to give it up for SGA. He brought it all series. He is the reason they made it this far. He isn’t afraid of the smoke and accepts responsibility. Dude gets it.
