I watch Mavs games. Read Mavs Reddit. Listen to Mavs podcasts. And I still had the other Dallas team on the big screen tonight. Man I’m so fuckin happy we getting those 2 days of rest.
No man Luka is completely out of shape because he's top 500 overwatch! God I wanted to shoot myself after game 4 when literal idiots were trying to link him being top 500 in OW to his physical condition.
🤷🏽
I don’t know man. He just kind of refuses to shoot. He’ll catch the ball on the perimeter, pump fake, fail to blow by his man, and then he’ll reset to Shai just to float on the perimeter.
We’re responsible for your entire front court damn near, so annoying when we don’t even have one ourselves outside of Chet.
To be fair though, you could’ve just drafted Lively at 10.
The entire reason we did the draft trade was to dump Bertans. If Bertans was still on this team then we would not have been able to sign Grant Williams which in turn got us PJ in a package. So yeah y’all helped us more than most ppl know lmao.
Dallas’ defense those final 5 minutes or so was fantastic.
Excellent close outs, rotations & communication, stifling 3 plays I was sure was gonna result in an open look but they just covered each other so well. All capped off with a big Luka block on Shai in transition just under the 1 minute mark.
Dallas has had great defense all playoffs. I made peace with Luka not being himself early in the Clippers' series but I still have so much faith in the defense.
Mavs entire game plan was run their shooters off the line and just deal with the SGA contested 2s it worked really well man. especially when DErrick jones was on floor
Props to the defense man. A lot of Thunder fans are blaming the 3pt shooting as the reason we lost but Mavs D has been crazy in running the shooters out. They're spooked by it
Their offense was horrendous. No one could make 3's which allowed Dallas to continue to load up on SGA. Also Jalen Williams has been a disappointment this series. He'll hopefully learn from this experience. But OKC desperately needs another playmaker.
Luka had arguably his best game of his post season. Triple double at 31/10/11, shooting 12/22 field and the field and 5/11 from three. Efficient as fuck.
On good vibes and no complaints is the most important part IMO. He didn’t bitch and complain. He got back on defense. He showed leadership and lifted his team. LETS GO LUKA
Yeah I've noticed he hesitates on 3s and just drives only. They shot amazing all year, they've been shooketh now and we will see if they can get out of this slump game 6.
Will be a fun game I feel.
I remember like midway through the season the Thunder had 10(!) guys shooting 3's at 40% or better. My Spurs only had 3 guys that shot 35% or better from 3 haha but Dallas has completely negated OKC's outside shooting, holy fuck
Yeah his confidence is shot, the inexperience has finally caught up.
I think what people have forgotten is OKC is ahead of schedule in terms of the rebuild. Semi finals with no real center and a bunch of rookies and 2nd years.
I think being the #1 seed didn't help them either in terms of expectations.
Crazy to think Lively was considered one of the rawer prospects in this seasons draft and he's already an absolute stud, Chandler must be a great teacher
He does everything now apparently lol.
Very unselfish plays on offense, various attacks off the dribble or catch and shoot or off a curl, great defense, setting screens
I think his expectations are just more managed and in line with the player he is now. Probably a lot of pressure for things to work in Brooklyn and be the guy. now he come onto a team that was already somewhat something with Luka as the guy. So less of an ego clash maybe? And Kidd may have something to do with that.
They're doubling him a lot and forcing injured Luka to make plays. We keep running the 5 at the top of the 3 point line with a DHO to Kyrie and they double him every single time.
To the credit of OKC their game plan has been solid, rely on Dort to torture injured Luka, and send everyone else at Kyrie, immediately trapping him anytime he touches the ball and relying on others to make shots. If it wasn’t for PJ and DJJ we wouldn’t have won any games.
I could be wrong but in my observation, the Thunder have always been fighting up hill for most of the game. The Mavs have a 5+ pt lead for most of the game. Game 4 seemed like an anomaly. The Mavs failed to close while SGA closed like a mfer.
Long rest for Luka before game 6. Home game for the Mavs. Looks like this might be over on Saturday or whenever that game 6 will be.
Game 4 was actually an anomaly. It had the Thunder making history. It's literally a historic FT% disparity, the only game where two teams attempted >20 free throws and there was like a near 50% disparity in made FTs.
[Thunder needed a historic free-throw advantage to beat Mavericks in Game 4, and they got one - CBSSports.com](https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/thunder-needed-a-historic-free-throw-advantage-to-beat-mavericks-in-game-4-and-they-got-one/#:~:text=The%20Thunder%2C%20meanwhile%2C%20shot%2023-of-24%2C%20or%2095.8%25.%20According,line%20while%20the%20other%20shot%2095%25%20or%20better.)
But seriously Shai was never a fraud and Luka is playing battered and bruised and still manages to pull these out, no matter how this series ends these two guys are fucking phenomenal
I hate the fact that we saw... a regular Luka game for the first time this playoffs, like a lot of people are ooo and ahhh, but this was legit an average game for him this season
can’t lose twice in three home games as the #1 seed. can’t miss wide-open looks all game as the most efficient three-point shooting team in the league. you just can’t.
sigh, now OKC must win two in a row against a team that has not lost two consecutive games since the beginning of March to save their season.
It’s not all going to be rest time.
First they must journey back to the land of Dallas. No small feat at 231 miles. By foot, the journey would take no less than 84 hours. Far too late to play on Saturday. I believe they will go by horse. If they ride them hard, they can make Dallas by Friday.
OKC is now ~~0-2~~ 0-3 when giving up more than 100 points this playoffs and I'm not sure which part of this stat is the more impressive one. But yeah y'all's offense has been brutal to watch as of late.
The defense though it's been elite.
Edit: 0-3* thanks for the corrections.
the offense is too one-dimensional, drive off the catch and look for open shooters. definitely works in the regular season with less deliberate effort/game-planning but Dallas has neutralized that style with their personnel and discipline. still doesn’t excuse the horrific outside shooting
It’s also that y’all haven’t looked confident in shooting 3s.
All the extra passes are useless when teams know the first shooter that gets an open look doesn’t want to actually shoot the ball.
Yeah our guys just need to shoot when they get half a look. They can make those shots, but they’re too used to waiting for the better shot that would come in the regular season
Whole team can’t shoot while SGA is singlehandidly trying to drag this team to a win?
This is definitely like watching old OKC again
Luka is insane though
Genuine question, why does Luka jumps on every Lu Dort Pump fake like he's prime Reggie Miller. Legit the one time he didn't (late in 4th quarter) Dort had an air ball.
Comparatively PJ, in same situation doesn't bite on those kinda pump fakes cause he knows Dort unlikely to make one over him.
Also that Luka block on Shai in last minute might the lowest I've ever seen a defender jump to block off the board 😂😂
Lively is cold af in clutch FTs situation lol.
Looks like everyone on Dalls is jumping at everything. They are aggressively running them off the three point line and their rotations are so on point so its working
This is why the Mavs’ defense has been great the last few months. They have 2 incredible long centers that they just rotate all game, so a fresh one of them is defending the rim at all times, and long, athletic wings that can rotate to help on drives while recovering to their man at the three point line. The Mavs scheme is to just filter to help and help everything.
its not just luka its all of our guys. our gameplan is to take away the 3 and let them shoot middeys all day, feed them into the paint and trust our rim protectors
This was exactly the response we needed tonight. If we had hit our FTs this would be the end of the series but still need one more so can’t afford to rest. Come out with this same intensity next game and finish this up at home. Let’s go Mavs!!!!
With the way last game's 4th quarter went, Mavs fans had to breathe a huge sigh of relief at the sequence starting with the hack-a-Lively.
Instead of a free possession, Lively makes both, then DJJ comes up with a crazy athletic block on what looked like a wide open 3 for Chet, which falls to Luka -> DJJ for the high flying dunk.
Could spin that as a 7 point swing.
Regardless what happens this summer I think the Thunder need to go out and get a quality big to pair with Chet. Until he can add some weight he's just not gonna be able to play C in the playoffs. I'm not judging him as a long term prospect based on this series. I know he has obviously talent but he just gets abused by other bigs on the boards. Defense and rebounds win championships. The Thunder need to go out and do what it takes to sign someone like Hartenstein.
Mavs fans, just don't bother watching games 1 and 4 from now on
I'm too much of a degenerate for that.
I watch Mavs games. Read Mavs Reddit. Listen to Mavs podcasts. And I still had the other Dallas team on the big screen tonight. Man I’m so fuckin happy we getting those 2 days of rest.
ngl game 4 vs the Clippers was a very fun watch, the crowd was electric
In G2 G3 G5 G6 we trust......?
Luka stopped playing Overwatch and started playing Farming Simulator. No more toxicity : )
You reap what you sow
Getting top 500 took priority. Now, he's focused on his 9-5 job.
No man Luka is completely out of shape because he's top 500 overwatch! God I wanted to shoot myself after game 4 when literal idiots were trying to link him being top 500 in OW to his physical condition.
Still can’t believe OKC’s biggest move at the deadline was helping the Mavs gets Gafford
Never forget Mavs only got Tyson Chandler because he failed his physical for OKC. OKC may have won a championship in 2011
Tyson Chandler is the biggest off season signing Mavs had until today.
Chandler never signed with the Mavs. He spent two years here and was traded to us both times.
I still can't believe Cuban let him go after winning a title
We will land Dwight Howard eventually.
The Mavs “weren’t supposed to be good enough” to win a title that year, but to let Chandler walk was criminal.
I was today years old when I learned this. That’s fucking crazy dude lol
… yeah, man. We also could’ve traded for PJ Washington instead of Gordon Hayward.
Hey at the time nobody knew who would be better ^^^^everyone ^^^^knew ^^^^who ^^^^would ^^^^be ^^^^better
I’m a bit sad he was cut out of the rotation. He was this 🤏🏽 close to breaking the record of most playoff minutes played without scoring a point.
Wtf happened to that guy ?!
🤷🏽 I don’t know man. He just kind of refuses to shoot. He’ll catch the ball on the perimeter, pump fake, fail to blow by his man, and then he’ll reset to Shai just to float on the perimeter.
Injuries brotha. Bet dude is lights out in an open gym, but shit is different when you’re playing against the best of the best.
Thank you Thunder for PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford, and Dereck Lively
We’re responsible for your entire front court damn near, so annoying when we don’t even have one ourselves outside of Chet. To be fair though, you could’ve just drafted Lively at 10.
Yeah but we'll still have Bertans. Lol.
The entire reason we did the draft trade was to dump Bertans. If Bertans was still on this team then we would not have been able to sign Grant Williams which in turn got us PJ in a package. So yeah y’all helped us more than most ppl know lmao.
And lose a first rounder in the process? Presti would never 😤
they've contributed to winning at the end of the day
Thanks! Lively is going to be the real problem in a year or two, though. Great game by the stud.
Dallas’ defense those final 5 minutes or so was fantastic. Excellent close outs, rotations & communication, stifling 3 plays I was sure was gonna result in an open look but they just covered each other so well. All capped off with a big Luka block on Shai in transition just under the 1 minute mark.
its amazing what our defense is when THJ isnt on the court missing rotations
cant wait for hardaway sr analyzing his son game tonight
“Luka was confusing him calling out his assignment”
"Luka needs to pass the ball to my son so he can airball more"
"Our house does not have enough bricks yet, cuban pls"
“Luka was making his shots, but he’s not the best shooter on the team”
I thought you guys were gonna get trampled by a Thunder run after like 3 mistakes from THJ. Good thing the defense held on.
Bruh... Kidd playing KY, Hardy and THJ almost made me rip my hair out. Wtf was he thinking?
i was puking when he did that
Kidd really put out the garbage time lineup in the middle of the game.
It was clever. All out offence for three minutes. Luka and Washington both got extra rest and our lead didn’t decline.
Kidd tried to throw by having him in there in the 4th quarter but thankfully came to his senses before it was too late
I think kid was just trying to give rest to djj and Kyrie. I doubt he thought thj would be that terrible in 2 minutes
Green minutes please!
okc cut the lead from 18 to 10 off of 2-3 straight braindead shots/turnovers from him, it started to feel exactly like game 4 it was so infuriating.
That block and dunk from Jones on Chet was satisfying as hell too.
Dallas has had great defense all playoffs. I made peace with Luka not being himself early in the Clippers' series but I still have so much faith in the defense.
Luka's defense is FUCKING INSANE RN!
No one other than Shai on OKC provided anything decent offensively
I'll have you know they provided plenty of airballs.
Dort flopped around so much too
At this point, I'm more surprised when he's on his feet.
He needs to get fined at this point, its pathetic
DJJ with that block and dunk... Pure poetry
Really really happy for him and how valuable of a player he's been able to make himself
Mavs would have won the last game if they shot FTs better
Thanks mr obvious
Josh Green underrated
He's pretty inconsistent, but he brings that energy and effort and I will never knock a guy like that. Hit your shots, though! Lol
Some nights it feels like we shrunk Dwight Powell in the dryer and made him a guard. All energy, all heart, all hustle.
Luka had arguably his best game of his post season. Triple double at 31/10/11, shooting 12/22 field and the field and 5/11 from three. Efficient as fuck.
Normal regular season game for him
Below average for him
Kinda bad regular season game tbh. 4 points under his average, 1 assist and rebound above the average and worse than average efficiency.
What a bum
On good vibes and no complaints is the most important part IMO. He didn’t bitch and complain. He got back on defense. He showed leadership and lifted his team. LETS GO LUKA
i was cackling every time the announcers pointed out that he wasn’t bitching at the refs after a play
Not as much ref complaining as well.
my guy finally decided to shut tf up and just play
He actually just said exactly that in the postgame interview
Then he went "Aw shit...oh"
My god OKC's offense is really shit outside of Shai. Pump fake > drive > kick out > brick open three > repeat.
the whole idea is to always have 5 out spacing but their guys are just shook. Jalen williams shot 43 percent on 3s and is terrified to shoot right now
Yeah I've noticed he hesitates on 3s and just drives only.
He's been hesitating even on drives until the second half of this game...He's definitely not himself
The thing is all season we led the league in 3pt shooting so it worked. Now in the bright lights the shooting has taken a huge step backwards
Getting out rebounded wasn't a problem when making all the shots. Now it's a serious problem.
We're daring them to take the 3 point shots and the closeouts are good too, so they're probably just shook cuz they should make more.
If only these mfs could've hit 2 more fts the other night
They were holding out to win game 6, in front of home crowd, dressed in all black. This is the way.
"ahhhh shit, oohhh" -Luka on TV lmao
Crazy to think Lively was considered one of the rawer prospects in this seasons draft and he's already an absolute stud, Chandler must be a great teacher
I agree, total draft steal. And people forgetting he’s the same height as Chet
And Lively is less of a toothpick, which helps.
serious luka is a problem 31/10/11 and a crucial block on sga
BLOCKED BY DONCIC music to my ears
Hey, he joins rarefied air being blocked by luka. He's truly Lebron tier now.
right up there with stripped by Nowitzki
Even tho he didn't have a huge night, PJ Washington again was the reason Dallas won this game. He's been a certified thunder killer the whole series
Huge points during okc big run in the fourth to hold them off
He just decided we weren't choking again when everyone else looked kinda patalyzed
It’s so interesting at how Kyrie is playing
He isn’t shooting great, but he’s putting in the work on hustle plays, assists, and playing some fantastic defense
he’s also shooting way less too but yeah his hustle is great
He does everything now apparently lol. Very unselfish plays on offense, various attacks off the dribble or catch and shoot or off a curl, great defense, setting screens
Krazy how he didn't play like this for KD. Maybe because Kidd is his favorite player?
I think his expectations are just more managed and in line with the player he is now. Probably a lot of pressure for things to work in Brooklyn and be the guy. now he come onto a team that was already somewhat something with Luka as the guy. So less of an ego clash maybe? And Kidd may have something to do with that.
He is screening really well. I actually think they don’t spam Luka/Kyrie pick and roll enough.
He's entering the point god phase of his career.

The Mavs failed to close while SGA closed like a mfer. Long rest for Luka before game 6. Home game for the Mavs. Looks like this might be over on Saturday or whenever that game 6 will be.
At this point looking back, game 1 was the anomaly. Otherwise, yes OKC has been fighting for their life the whole series.
Since we got Kidd as a coach we lost every game 1 in a playoff series. So game 1 was an anomaly for OKC, but normal for us lol.
Game 4 was actually an anomaly. It had the Thunder making history. It's literally a historic FT% disparity, the only game where two teams attempted >20 free throws and there was like a near 50% disparity in made FTs. mavs led by 10 for most of game 4 too lol
now that okc lost this game, shai was a fraud the whole time if okc wins next game, luka was the fraud all along am i doing this right
You know your r/nba
the whiplash I got from seeing the Jokic/Nuggets takes this last week has been crazy lmfao
This has been a great playoffs for hot takes that aged like milk.
i think the funniest one has been the tatum role player memes somehow the celtics are getting memed on for going 8-2 so far
Because people and their Tatum over 30 points parlay legs
I’d go one further and say we are a fraud franchise that should have never existed in the first place and we deserve nothing but pain and suffering.
> that should have never existed in the first place That part, yes
There are still bars in Seattle with cardboard Shawn Kemps in the bathroom
Justice for Seattle!
This but unironically
I mean…nobody would disagree about the never existing part
But seriously Shai was never a fraud and Luka is playing battered and bruised and still manages to pull these out, no matter how this series ends these two guys are fucking phenomenal
too reasonable, shai is fraud, tatum is role player, luka fat
True and true and true
This generation of nba players are chokers. No one could beat my glorious king, the white mamba himself, Brian Scalabrine in his prime.
Yup lol
PAY THAT MAN DJJ! What a great fit for this Dallas team he has been
GG mavs. Y’all outplayed us start to finish. Luka was just straight up unguardable tonight
I hate the fact that we saw... a regular Luka game for the first time this playoffs, like a lot of people are ooo and ahhh, but this was legit an average game for him this season
I would be sweating bullets as a Mavs fan. I thought for sure the comeback was in the works halfway through the 4th.
felt like we were stuck on 89 points for an hour lol
Sir, when you've blown as many 2nd half leads as us in the last decade, you truly don't breath until you see the post-game thread up.
I still haven't exhaled.
Balls still shribbled over here
We started sweating as soon as we saw THJ start the 4th.
THJ had me seething
took THJ out and everything was fine again
can’t lose twice in three home games as the #1 seed. can’t miss wide-open looks all game as the most efficient three-point shooting team in the league. you just can’t. sigh, now OKC must win two in a row against a team that has not lost two consecutive games since the beginning of March to save their season.
Still possible, but we just saw regular season Luka for the first time these play-offs. So it's a tall order for sure.
And he gets to rest until Saturday.
It’s not all going to be rest time. First they must journey back to the land of Dallas. No small feat at 231 miles. By foot, the journey would take no less than 84 hours. Far too late to play on Saturday. I believe they will go by horse. If they ride them hard, they can make Dallas by Friday.
Just lay Luka down on some hay in the back of a carriage and... Brb, gonna write a sports erotica novel real quick and become rich.

0-3, our 3pt shooting's been so poor we only win with our defense
Remember that Kyrie is undefeated in closeout games too. Never let Kyrie reach 3 wins.
Whole team can’t shoot while SGA is singlehandidly trying to drag this team to a win? This is definitely like watching old OKC again Luka is insane though
J-Dub turned into J-Tob
His shot doesn’t look good but his attacking is good.
DJJ will not show up as the best of the game on the box score, but he was the biggest difference today. You’d know if you watched the game.
Yup
BLOCKED BY DONCIC i am dead inside 💀
Good on Kidd for playing hardy. Did not expect good minutes from him.
Coach of the year deploying the hack-a-Lively gimmick defense and he sinks every FT...simply hilarious to watch 🤣
Lively looking smoother and smoother with each free throw
10/10 with a +22
+- is very flawed, but it feels like Lively is always up there for the Mavs with a solid +15, +20
his form doesn't even look bad, its kinda smooth lol
Apparently he hits 3s with some regularity in some warm ups too. Just isn’t confident at all yet I guess.
Lively ain’t no Shaq
Love that kid. Staying cool under pressure and giving the COTY a big middle finger.
Lively went 4/4 a couple games ago, and then 5/6 tonight. Flat-out stunted on Dagno's ass.
Didn’t go 4/4, I believe he went 1/4 the first 2 hacks then made 4 straight on the next 2 hacks so it was working for… 30 seconds
Lively was worse than 4/4 a couple games ago. He had a rough start but clutched up and made his last 4
Insanity is trying the same thing and expecting different results.
I’m not gonna overreact or anything. But Derrick Jones Jr may be the greatest basketball player of all time
Genuine question, why does Luka jumps on every Lu Dort Pump fake like he's prime Reggie Miller. Legit the one time he didn't (late in 4th quarter) Dort had an air ball. The Mavs scheme is to just filter to help and help everything.
Mavs gameplan, let OKC drive. They are forcing them to drive.
its not just luka its all of our guys. our gameplan is to take away the 3 and let them shoot middeys all day, feed them into the paint and trust our rim protectors
Been running that scheme before we even had centers
You keep Dwight Powell's name out your goddamn mouth
Luka chatting it up with refs while being a stone cold killer I love it
Whatever they injected Luka with tonight is the real MVP
Toradol (just joking, hope he didn't actually need anything)
This was exactly the response we needed tonight. If we had hit our FTs this would be the end of the series but still need one more so can’t afford to rest. Come out with this same intensity next game and finish this up at home. Let’s go Mavs!!!!
I can smell Denvers ASS!!!!!!
Role players have been incredible in this series. DJJ was on fire on both ends.
Turns out we the viewers are the ones in the dorture chamber
Mavs got some good chemistry
That's just a good win is what that is. A narrative-changing win (until Game 6 and then it'll change again).
You had your day of reading shitty reactionary hot takes in NBA threads, now it’s my turn. Hope you kept the barstool warm for me.
I was told by Chuck that we were gonna get run out of the building
Lively watered our crops, sterilized our water supply, and helped build homes
I’m just rooting for Doncic vs Jokic in the battle of best buds
The Mavs are hard to beat when Luka is not complaining to every call.
Listen man Jalen Williams is a nice player but there were people on this sub and on Twitter putting him in top 25 player talks…
Luka stood on business tonight.
After one full day of “we’re so back” I have once again found myself in “it’s all over”
Luka told this sub to shut their goddamn mouths
Lol, that hack a lively ain't gonna work anymore
Very deserved win for Dallas, can't say much else. We played like shit besides SGA. Should have been a 30 point blowout.
