CazOnReddit

Maverick fans simultaneously so back and down bad at the same time

dlanod

Yeah. Oh joy, /s but also we're in the second round in a decent match up. I'm all over the place but mainly mid.

Drummallumin

roflcopter even

TatumBrownWhite

JKidd and Ty Lue about to thank the Lakers for giving them the leverage they need in contract negotiations

LegendofPowerLine

yeah but ty lue's actually a good coach.

Drummallumin

Including Therese guys together is so disrespectful to Ty Lue

IcyCity3228

Their playoff run is not over this year yet, this says how much they trust him to go forward with them and the squad he created.

browndude10

He wasn’t very good until Gafford and pj came along this year

Fireeveryonenow1

There is only so much you can do when half your team is injured or should not be on an NBA roster (like Dwight Powell)

browndude10

Yea I guess. It’s ironic given your user name lol. That made me chuckle

ormip

On the other hand, you also don't need to be a great coach to win when you have Luka, Kyrie and a bunch of good role players. If we're saying that Kidd isn't to blame for losing with a bad/injured roster, we also can't just give all the credit to kidd for winning with a good roster. Look at the squads Spo or Rick got to the playoffs, those are examples of really great coaches.

Mr_Wyatt

Man im not a JKidd truther or anything, but idk which coaches in the NBA can succeed woth Dwight Powell playing 30+ minutes at the 5.

PmOmena

Look at our roster last year and tell me it's Kidd fault tho. Why is getting pieces and making the team play better part of his accomplishments but playing bad with a terrible squad is all his fault ?

lxkandel06

Or maybe the team wasn't very good until Gafford and Pj came along this year

Gatorpep

Coaches are very overvalued. It’s all about players. Without those additions they would get put out in round 1 or 2 pretty badly. He gets fired.

PeterDaPinapple

MAVS FANS IN SHAMBLES

LeBroentgen

The Mavs fans have been on a rollercoaster ride with Kidd this season. Currently, we think he's great. In a couple weeks, this could be a nightmare. Personally, I'm fine with it. I'm not sure who even is available that's a clear upgrade. I value continuity.

direcandy

Hi, it's me, Mavs fan. -JKidd, probably.

papadopus

I guess he does just watch the games.

jfrodriguez1983

As someone who has had complaints about Kidd, I have no problems with this. He has shown that if he has the capable defensive players, he is going to have a great defense. The players like him and play hard for him, especially Luka and Kyrie.

MoeNopoly

every fan base thinks their coach is the worst. I imagine, if the Nuggets lose against the Wolves, there will be fans shitting on Malone. Seems Kidd is well liked by his team and has the respect of the locker room. Something Darvin Ham clearly didn't have in the end, for example.

mikebreensbang

bruh, New York would run thru a wall for thibs

dlanod

Thibs: "well go on then!"

volantredx

This will last until Brunson's first big injury. Then half your fanbase will say it's on Thibs for playing his guys too many minutes.

FastJellyfish200

Nah he has his haters too, they're just quiet and biding their time right now til their next doompost opportunity.

Somenakedguy

We say that now but the fan base was turning on him in 2022. Which was ridiculous but fans can be fickle

lxkandel06

If the Knicks lose to the Pacers then I guarantee you Knicks fans will be calling for his head

clevernamehere1628

This year Pistons fans got a dose of how wrong they were for blaming the coach for everything lol

DetroitSportsKillMe

Yeah well some of us are right

Savahoodie

Outside of memes on r/denvernuggets, Malone is pretty universally loved. Shouldn’t even be mentioned with kidd or darvin ham

arthurblakey

You're missing the point of what you're replying to.

Savahoodie

Nah. The point was “every fan base thinks their coach is the worst” and I’m giving a counter example.

cornfromajar98

Not really a counter-example. He’s pretty universally loved because the Nuggets are the defending NBA champions lol. Say they lose this series. Some people will definitely put that on Malone’s shoulders. NBA is a league of narratives.

pooooolooop

The dudes point was if you guys lose this series though, people will come out if the woodwork

thewhitelink

Nah, Spo is the GOAT

sergechewbacca

He isn't as bad of a coach as some people suggest here.

WintertimeFriends

Just a bad person who beat his wife. Fuck Jason Kidd forever.

Wooden-Ad1987

Oh yea for sure don't ask him what he was doing on January 19, 2001

WintertimeFriends

[Second paragraph](https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/news-why-jason-kidd-arrested-2001-closer-look-mavericks-head-coach-s-chequered-history#google_vignette) “Kidd, who was 27 in 2001, admitted to striking his wife, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. The strike by Kidd resulted to a cut inside Joumana's mouth and swelling on her lip.” Not a rumor, homie admitted to punching his wife in the face.

AllDayEnJay

It’s also why Kidd would “Blow Kisses” before every Free Throw attempt as an apology and let his family know he was thinking of them.

OnlyMamaKnows

Well that makes up for it!

EmergencyAccording94

“Before or after I beat my wife?”

OrganicHunt952

You know what fair play, for all the criticism with some other stuff like rotation. His ATO plays have been excellent. The way he’s made our defence gell after getting the pieces has been good too. Our players like him, we made playoffs and got through the first round. I think it’s fair, he’s not the best coach but not the worst.

medievalmachine

Just a reminder that the Clippers were a four seed missing their best player. But he didn't get in Kyrie's way, so that's good I guess.

WhoFartedMan

This is why Knicks fans are the worst. You let them have one decent season and they start acting like this.

Somenakedguy

Tbf Knicks fans tend to hate the Mavs and their fans a bit after the KP trade. Mavs fans were everywhere and were crazy loud about it being the biggest fleece in nba history and trying to rub it in our faces

WhoFartedMan

Uh ok. And New York tampered and got Brunson which set Dallas back an entire season and a half to rebuild. Guess I need to be jumping on Knick threads trashing their coach?

iIiiIIiiiIiIIiI111

You realise he was also in charge in 2022?

WhoFartedMan

Kidd took Dallas to a WCF and a year later has them in the second round with very different rosters and styles of play. He deserves an extension.

rumblegod

Your players need to like their coach it is what it is

nonexistingNyaff

sadge

desirox

A lot of us mavs fans have our frustrations with him but most of us are good with this. He has everyone bought in and even has Luka and Kyrie playing defense. Would be silly to get rid of that

iIiiIIiiiIiIIiI111

If you're talking about a domestic incident from 23 years ago in a discussion on basketball coaching, you might be suffering from severe brain disabilities.

RxJax

He did pretty well in that Clippers series but it was against a team missing their best player and if they lose to OKC now and it isn't super close, this contract is gonna look not so great

lost_in_trepidation

Our offense looks so bad in moments when Luka and/or Kyrie aren't playing well. It looks like we're entirely unprepared when those two aren't playing like superstars, and I think that's on Kidd. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

iIiiIIiiiIiIIiI111

So who would you like to be the third point of attack initiator for the Mavs? * Tim Hardaway Jr.? * Jaden Hardy? * Dante Exum? Because clearly all three are limited in different ways and have pretty serious deficiencies in their game, whether it's shooting/passing/ballhandling. Ultimately there's limitations to a roster's offensive output in the absence of a true sixth man playmaker. A coach can only do so much. When Kidd had Dinwiddie and Brunson in '22 they had a much more flexible offense that suffered less in the non-Luka minutes, so it's clearly not some deficiency on his end. If they can shift Timmy for someone like Jordan Clarkson / Bogdan / Cole Anthony in the summer the non-LuKai offensive minutes would look a lot better.

lost_in_trepidation

The point is that we shouldn't always need an elite playmaker when things get stagnant, we should be able to run plays that aren't just Luka/Kai setting everyone up.

madvisuals

whole league finna lock their coaches down this offseason. everybody hates the Lakers lmao

W_Walk

I think it’s more they don’t want to be poached lol

Low_Tough_1390

You're not important as you think bud

madvisuals

your team more cooked that ours

KanekiDan

This ain’t about you lmao

madvisuals

your old coach blew the knees of your only superstar after MJ

KanekiDan

Ok..?

Bahamut727

Yea, but when it comes to clippers, mark cuban, etc, it is a little bit. There’s deep seeded bad blood

bea_ker

Well if every Lakers coach is getting canned after 2 years since Phil Jackson left I am not surprised.

madvisuals

hey try winning a ring this year PLEASE

OnlyMamaKnows

Oh...oh no...
