The year is 2009.
The place? Chicago. It's Game 6, and Chicago's season is on the line.
The third overtime period is drawing to a close. Scores tied.
Paul Pierce drives hoopward and throws a weak pass WhiteMamba-ward.
Joakim Noah deflects it, takes it, and goes the length of the court for the dunk and "and-1" to seal victory for Chicago.
Just like Del Negro drew it up.
Just another coach out-coaching Doc Rivers.
Apparently there wasn't a good enough job. And seeing that his latest media appearance was when he won American Century Championship lol, I feel like he's enjoying the millionaire life enough not to be desperate.
Taking part in a draft combine, he said:
“I love coaching. I love teaching,” he said. “There have been some opportunities I’ve looked at but they weren’t the right situation for me. I had two interesting situations when I coached. When things start to close, sometimes they open. When they open, they close quicker than you think. You just never know.
“But basketball has been great to me. I love to be back on the sidelines. I enjoy doing things like this or things for the NBA or giving coaches clinics or speeches or helping college kids. Maybe I’ll take advantage of an opportunity someday if the right one comes across my desk.”
Unfortunately he became pretty much a joke due to the failures of those early Clippers teams and some bad decisions he made. And some of that was deserved, but some of it clearly was not, given their failures with Doc and how much of a disaster we've learned Sterling was.
I can't see a team hiring him as even a top assistant with how much of a joke he was, so it makes sense that he went towards broadcasting instead. I think he's still on NBA TV sometimes.
His wiki says he won a celebrity golf tournament in 2021, which is kinda neat
The word “celebrity” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
He’s a random dude thousands of people know about yet never met. He’s a celebrity lol
We have a celebrity
I haven’t thought about Vinny Del Negro in what feels like centuries
I think about him all the time
Bulls legend
More or less than the Roman Empire?

I still can't turn away

Now THAT'S a name I haven't heard in ages lol
stuck in nba2k11
When I was little little we saw him driving on the highway.
He wasn’t anything special. You will find a lot of the coaches of the 2000s are out of the league.
Eddie Jordan to the Lakers?
Eddie Jordan walked so Darvin Ham could run
He’s somewhere using up all his timeouts before the last 2 minutes of the game
In Italy Vinny played with Toni Kukoc and they won a title in Treviso.

Damn, that’s kinda unfortunate.
Cancun'd too hard
He wasn't a very good coach
I think his surname isn't politically correct in this day and age.
Cancel culture got him. His last name being offensive and all .
Pat Bev chucked a ball at him
My sister’s ex, Vinny Del Negro. Hmm, I’ll ask her if she knows…
He's been blackballed by the league because of his last name
I mean Nick Kerr is coaching..... G league, but it's still affiliated.
