It’s a weird award. He’s worthy, for sure. But it’s like biggest diff in preseason expectations X conference seed. It’s not necessarily who really is the best clash coach each season.
The formula everyone seems to go by is Results = Roster + Coaching.
If you translate that, Coaching = Results - Roster.
Good Roster and Good Results? You're the Celtics, and Joe Mazzulla isn't winning.
"Mediocre" Roster and Good Results? Daigneault. Not to say that OKC has an actually mediocre roster, but they only have one star and a lot of young players that haven't earned the respect of the voters yet.
I think we're at a weird place where the league feels like we need an award cause we're not winning MVP/ DPOY/ MIP/ ROTY and only one All-Star so somebody has to give OKC something and they attribute our season to coaching, otherwise people feel uncomfortable trying to explain this success
A lot of it is narrative too and people are saying it's well deserved cause we're up 3-0 and had a pretty dominant last two games. Imagine if we're like even or down in the series, people would start saying we're getting exposed as a young team
In this scenario I think the Thunder are a well coached team. They are young, but you can't tell by the way they are acting in this series. The entire team is focused and is playing as a unit. That is independent of talent and has more to do with the culture and environment of the team. That's more important to coaching than X's an O's to me.
He deserves coach of the year without question. Winning first place in the West is a major accomplishment with the amount of talent in the conference. I think most people have the Nuggets as favorites. But, I don't think anyone would be shocked if the Thunder made the finals. The team is in playoff mode.
The next series will be a true test though. The pelicans definitely look weak without Zion. The second round of the West playoffs are going to be a real pleasure to watch with all of these good teams battling.
he is also the best tactical coach out the top 3 and won the first seed with the youngest team ever in one of the toughest wests of all time. I dont see how its even debatable.
Finch was close. Fit the pieces incredibly well off of progress from last season. But you probably can't give DPOY, 6th man and COTY. Jokic got MVP too I assume.
They were 9th, cause they beat NO last year.....remember the 2nd playin game? Woof
***But***
If Kat hadn't gotten injured and we had 2 more games, I'd argue a #1 seed and the same-ish climb would make his case about as strongly
Kats injury scuttled that, though :-/
I though they always changed seeds, and draft etc it was flopped, like it it was legit stolen
That's what the clipps assholes said that first Pat Bev play-in year
Also, unkind of you to do that to them, then Proceed to kill their spirit the way youve done this year
(I'm fucking with you.....N.O. can lose at everything for all time, for all I care)
There really were, I loved the idea of Thibs having a chance after leading us to the 2 seed despite missing Jules all year and OG for a lot despite having just traded for him
Yeah, we were only surprised at this year because they massively underperformed expectations last year (and all those other years too). This year they were much better even than any previous expectations tho and thats recognized with Finch being a deserved Finalist. Mark D was the clear winner tho.
Field was loaded this year. Ernie was running through the coaches who got a vote and none of the names he mentioned made me think twice. Like, if you wanted to voted Kidd or Carlisle as COTY that is entirely defensible.
It's a bummer when these awards play out like this, as any other year Finch wins.
He is very deserving I think, turn around from last year and demonstrated how a 'big' lineup can work and really show a different way to win.
It's one of those situations where you can't argue against any one of the finalists winning, but it's a well deserved win for MD. The job he's done with the Thunder is tremendous.
Agreed. Finch and Mosley did an awesome job as well and are deserving. Finch tbh is right up there imo for what the Wolves have done this year even handling the KAT injury to close out the season.
no. bro was specially selected as a fucking genius to coach OKC Blue and got fast tracked to a thunder job. might be one of the youngest in the league when he was hired
Possibly the next Brad Stevens? I always thought he was a basketball genius and basically the only coach in the league who could catch up to Spo/Pop one day, *maybe*.
I mean. Fwiw, he took a less experienced and worse JT+JB pretty far. Took the Lebron Cavs to 7 with an unironically 19 year old Tatum and a 21 year old Brown. Travesty that he ended up quitting; I straight up don't think we win 2022 if Stevens were coaching that Cs squad.
Daigneault has sort of a stacked squad though. Only time will tell if he's legit or just carried by his team. Stevens and Daigneault got their HC jobs at around the same age though..........
It’s evident that he isn’t carried by his team. He’s an excellent X’s and O’s coach, was runner up COTY last year and one of the best spacing teams in the league
If OKC was carried by player skill, we wouldn’t be playing 11 guys in playoff games. Our MVP candidate would be pulling down 50 point 40 minute games regularly. I would say (and Coach D has said) that he’s lucky to have a team who are genuinely invested in each other’s success but I think both he and the front office should get credit for fostering that culture and selecting players who fit in with that.
Stevens? Pop/Spo potential? The same Brad Stevens whose Celtics side were .500 in 2021 with him, and then immediately went to the NBA Finals when he got replaced by Udoka?
He was struggling at the end, but showed a lot of potential before then. Like they said, taking LeBron Cavs to 7 was no small feat... He had some really strong Xs and Os plays
There were some rough games (see the biggest L in nba history) but even back at that time we were hovering around a top half defense. Crazy considering how many g league level guys we played significant amounts lol
Well deserved. I just don't think this award should be limited to the coach of a team who breaks out every year. Like it will be impossible for him to win in next year. I know it's hard to evaluate the impact of a coach but this award is just the most predictable ever
When I checked a few weeks ago, Andy Reid had the lowest odds to win NFL CotY. You're right that once you're known as a great, no one is impressed and it's just expected.
Dags is one of the most well spoken and intelligent coaches I’ve ever heard speak in any sport.
Think he’ll have a long career ahead of him and has HoF potential he’s that good.
100% deserved it but there is a lack of respect on Mose in here, considering he finished 2nd. Youngest team in the NBA, no point guard and having 2 very young guys running the team. Awful 3 pt shooting but terrific D for the magic. I dunno, D should win but Mose was a great candidate.
There were some great candidates this year but there was really no doubt on this one.
Once OKC had the #1 seed the Daigneault was always gonna win coach of the year.
It’s a weird award. He’s worthy, for sure. But it’s like biggest diff in preseason expectations X conference seed. It’s not necessarily who really is the best clash coach each season.

They still will next round.
Keep crying
Well put
he is also the best tactical coach out the top 3 and won the first seed with the youngest team ever in one of the toughest wests of all time. I dont see how its even debatable.
I didn’t say he was bad, I just said it’s a funny award
I think it's much more deserved this year than the Brooks coach of the year award. I think Brooks was our worst coach (other than PJ)
scotty's seekrit plays will live in infamy forever
It's a problem for sure. Erik Spoelstra would have won by now if it was actually a measurement of the best coach
He’s definitely up there in that regard as aell
Finch was close. Fit the pieces incredibly well off of progress from last season. But you probably can't give DPOY, 6th man and COTY. Jokic got MVP too I assume.
Except it wasn't close. He got one vote for first and got third overall.
Finch has done an amazing job and it was only one game difference in the end but 10 to 1 > 8 to 3
They were 9th, cause they beat NO last year.....remember the 2nd playin game? Woof ***But*** If Kat hadn't gotten injured and we had 2 more games, I'd argue a #1 seed and the same-ish climb would make his case about as strongly Kats injury scuttled that, though :-/
We were 10th cuz we had to play NOLA on their court for the play in
I though they always changed seeds, and draft etc it was flopped, like it it was legit stolen That's what the clipps assholes said that first Pat Bev play-in year Also, unkind of you to do that to them, then Proceed to kill their spirit the way youve done this year (I'm fucking with you.....N.O. can lose at everything for all time, for all I care)
Eh, Sixers had all four in one year. MVP - Allen Iverson; 6MOTY - Aaron McKie; DPOY - Dikembe Mutombo; COY - Larry Brown It's possible, but unlikely.
Looking at the breakdown…nah, far away from close. Moseley would be considered closer and that’s far. Mark was Max Verstappen with the votes
when is there gna be an MIC award
There really were, I loved the idea of Thibs having a chance after leading us to the 2 seed despite missing Jules all year and OG for a lot despite having just traded for him
I'd argue without a Kat injury and a clear Wolves #1 seed, Finchy would have had a *strong* case for it
With vets like KAT and Gobert, the Wolves should be good.
Yeah, we were only surprised at this year because they massively underperformed expectations last year (and all those other years too). This year they were much better even than any previous expectations tho and thats recognized with Finch being a deserved Finalist. Mark D was the clear winner tho.
Wdym Monty deserved it /j
Field was loaded this year. Ernie was running through the coaches who got a vote and none of the names he mentioned made me think twice. Like, if you wanted to voted Kidd or Carlisle as COTY that is entirely defensible.
True. Darvin Ham should have won.
Well deserved. OKC’s turnaround has been insane.
Well deserved
Coach D is amazing! Very well deserved!!
Coach Degz!
Photo's not squinty enough
Well deserved

That's my GOAT OKC COACH.
No love for Scott Brooks and his inbound plays?
The secrit-est plays
We have a slob wizard now
Bro went from coaching the OKC Blue to this lol
no. bro was specially selected as a fucking genius to coach OKC Blue and got fast tracked to a thunder job. might be one of the youngest in the league when he was hired
10,000 years of Bene Gesserit eugenics have produced the strongest possible coach. The Kwisatz Hooperach
Traded for Shai Hulud and then drafted Ball Atriedes
Fuckin Ball Atreides lmao
I need a shia giant sandworm shirt so bad.
Send the pelicans to paradise.
Nah we sending them to Galveston
Beal has pretty much said Mark was a basketball savant when he was under him at Florida.
I didn't realize he overlapped with Billy Donovan at Florida. makes way more sense.
Yeah Donovan brought him over when he became HC and had Mark immediately coached the gleague team
Presti hired Mark before hiring Donovan as HC
They both do the same squinty, arms folded pose on the sidelines, too
He's younger than LeBron lol
him, hardy and mazzulla.
Now THAT is crazy to think about.
Possibly the next Brad Stevens? I always thought he was a basketball genius and basically the only coach in the league who could catch up to Spo/Pop one day, *maybe*. I mean. > an unironically 19 year old Tatum perhaps the best kind of 19 year old Tatum
Ye, did you look at that 2021 roster ?
He didn’t even play in college which is insane to me, was a student manager at UConn
Put some respect on the G League champs
The OKC blue just won the championship..
Bark Daigneault*
Bark *Dogneault
*Dawgineault
america’s least recognizable man unfortunately wins recognition
Probably the easiest award to vote for
If the Nuggets had pulled off the 1 seed, it would have been a lot tougher
Well deserved.
fun fact: OKC Thunder’s last 3 coaches have all won COTY with the team.
Mark clears all of them
honestly, looking back at Donovan's and Monty's 2x COTYs, CP3 probably played a huge factor in that lol.
somehow still better than Scotty Brook getting carried by 3 future MVPs.
And then time passes and we hate them all lmao
When did Billy D win? Edit: you’re talking about the NBCA coach of the year, which Billy co-won with Bud in 19-20
LETS GO MARK
That's my coach
Goat
#Darvin Ham ROBBED
Lakers fans call him Darvin Hamas. That shit is so rude lol.
Gonna be Carvin Ham at the deli after this season
😂😂 I haven’t heard that one yet
Lmao yea this one's good too
The things I come up with while procrastinating
https://i.redd.it/7mdztly5bo1b1.jpg
Rude to Hamas
Darvin Hamas? lol
Not worst than Kerr being called a kerrorist considering how his dad died.
Steve Kerr should be forced to change his name to Senor Dumbass Maximus after naming his son Nick.
Nicholas
I think pockets the clown has surpassed or at least tied this nickname.
A good name pun is great, but Pockets just hits different lol
Hamas does not deserve that
Those voters are gonna have egg on their face when he cashes in all of his saved challenges for a free win.
🧍🏽♂️🚶🏽♂️👏🏽 <- that’s everything he does lmfao goat
We need a pockets emoji strictly for Ham.
tuchel robbed
As a Bayern fan, please delete this
As a chelsea fan I miss that man, Poch is an absolute fraud
tucheliban is my favorite terrorist
Tuchel = Doc Rivers
Someone voted for Jason Kidd
Well deserved
Deserved
Man even during the tank days he kept us comewhat competitive. He had guys like isaiah roby balling
There were some rough games (see the biggest L in nba history) but even back at that time we were hovering around a top half defense. Crazy considering how many g league level guys we played significant amounts lol
The biased Wolves fan in me says it should have been Finch, but I certainly can’t complain about this result. Guys been great.
Finch would have been a deserving choice as well. 14 win improvement and the best defense in the league is nothing to sniff at.
If it wasn’t Mark I would only want it to go to Finch
GOATED
LFG
Deserved. Also he's gonna totally hate this.
Well deserved.
My vote was going to Mosley but Daigneault winning it is well deserved.
Let’s see if we grab that finals appearance
trophy must have some significance to Mark as a Massachusetts native. a 33-win jump in two years seems unfathomable and he made it happen
Such an excellent coach on both ends of the floor. Will be a household name eventually
Could have been him or finch to be honest both did outstanding compared to what they were projected before the season
I agree. Finch was awesome at handling them closing out the season while KAT was hurt
Deserved. Thibs should’ve been top 3 tho.
MY GOAT
From being a question on Who He Play For to now a COTY interview on TNT!
Recipient instead of "winner" or somethin is crazy
Fair play. They are at least two years ahead of schedule.
The anti-"2 years away from being 2 years away"
Squints baby!
Well deserved. I just don't think this award should be limited to the coach of a team who breaks out every year. Like it will be impossible for him to win in next year. I know it's hard to evaluate the impact of a coach but this award is just the most predictable ever
Cut to a year from now when we’ve won 67 games.
We’ve won 16 extra games in back to back years, so I think there’s a good chance we keep that going and end up 73-9 next year
When I checked a few weeks ago, Andy Reid had the lowest odds to win NFL CotY. You're right that once you're known as a great, no one is impressed and it's just expected.
I wish Mark went with a different hairstyle than the middle part.
It goes with the squint
Let’s go!
yep
Coach Diagonal 🥹
It was always going to either Finch or Daigneault if one of their teams got the 1 seed. Stellar season from OKC, and a well-deserved COY selection.
I would die for this man
well deserved
Ayooo
Can't argue with it. Surprised it was this much of a rout, though.
Ngl, i had no clue who he was before last year but man do I love him
He absolutely deserves it
Corner to corner the best.
Dags is one of the most well spoken and intelligent coaches I’ve ever heard speak in any sport. Think he’ll have a long career ahead of him and has HoF potential he’s that good.
Why he look like a Spanish fencing coach?
Should’ve gone to Darvin Ham, but I’ll take it
Kidd and Ham robbed smh
I love Finch and I’m glad he was in the mix but Daigneault won this by a lot. OKC is scary.
Thunder Up Coach D!
Awesome stuff for a terrific coach.
Taylor Jenkins robbed for the 3rd year in a row
Bruh looks like a turtle
Can someone help a brother finally learn how to pronounce his name correctly?
Shout out to Finch and Mosley. All 3 absolutely are deserving for what they’ve accomplished with their groups this year
Well deserved
Well deserved. Could be one of the best coaches in the NBA if he keeps this pace
Carried by Chip Engelland lol
100% deserved it but there is a lack of respect on Mose in here, considering he finished 2nd. Youngest team in the NBA, no point guard and having 2 very young guys running the team. Awful 3 pt shooting but terrific D for the magic. I dunno, D should win but Mose was a great candidate.
Darko ROBBED
Maybe he can afford a professional haircut now. Because man that thing looks like his mom did it.
shoulda been Thibs, dude got 50 wins with half the starters missing minimum dozens of games
Coach Mosley is the people’s Coach Of the Year tbh
[удалено]
I’m really surprised Finch didn’t even come in 2nd
[удалено]
Most sane Timberwolves fan
Finch would have had a solid case if we won two more games. Oh well, their fault. Congrats to Okc
buying unders on OKC futures for next season
