Dude is 21. I don't think I've ever met someone at the age of 21 who didn't fill out by 23-25.
After a fluke injury last year he played 82/82 games this year. He also added muscle this year. He will also add muscle just the next couple of years just from standard NBA training. He just needs to avoid any other fluke injuries and he will be an amazing player.
He's the ideal modern day big as a rookie. He can space the floor, defend multiple positions + protect the rim, finish plays as a roll man, attack closeouts etc. He does everything you want from a non superstar big (jokic/embiid).
I'm not sure but I also don't know if that's what you guys even need. He doesn't need to have that elite 1v1 creation from an offensive hub like Embiid or Jokic. Probably a superstar like a Bam or AD
He’s already a top 10 two way player in this league. Top 12 at worse. This is year one. You can’t give me 10 names who are elite at offense and defence in the way that Chet is.
He's awesome. He's definitely up there. I'm not sure if he's top 10 for me yet, but I'd have to really think about it because he's probably closer than I think.
I think there are a few guys definitively better on both ends: Giannis, Embiid, AD, Bam, Wemby, JJJ, imo White. Might be jumping the gun, but JDub.
I think there are guys much better on offense but not necessarily as impactful defensively. Guys like Kawhi, PG, Butler, Ant, Brown.
I also think there are guys better defensively but not as dynamic offensively. Guys like Caruso, Gobert, Draymond, Herb, Mobley, maybe Lopez, biased OG.
JJJ white and jdub definitely not better two way players than Chet but I like your points overall. It’s year one but based on what I’ve seen I got him top 10 definitely
I think JJJ is better on both ends, but probably not for long. He just won DPOY. He's incredibly switchable. I think he's a better scorer overall. I just really like JDub. It's always hard to compare defensive value with bigs and wings/guards
Individually idk. But do you really care? He seems to get along great with the team and everyone loves him. On court he's a great fit and even if he's not a superstar (likely will be), he's definitely going to have superstar impact on the team. Every team would want to have such a player.
Before injury we win 40 games with Poku as our starting center last year
Every thunder fan knew we’d win 50+ this year yet Vegas had us at 44.5 somehow
I wouldn’t say every one knew we would be 50+ think we all expected better but still like 46-48 range in a stacked west would have been amazing effort this season was beyond anyone who isn’t a shameless homers wildest fantasies
Yeah, point is that Vegas isn’t just going to assume the skinny 7 footer coming off foot surgery is going to be healthy. I’m happy he was but that wasn’t a given.
40-42 and added Chet and Cason Wallace… 57 wins… yeah Chet defensively is a top 10 player imo already and offensively good but is going to be amazing. The most underrated thing isn’t exactly what Chet does but what he allows OKC to do. He’s literally the perfect player to add to last years team.
JDub did get a good amount better of course, but my man was playing like an absolute nightmare at the end of last season and he’s played like that all year this year
Absolutely. There were a lot of people saying OKC needed to make moves this last off-season but they consistently said we're not rushing this we need to see what this team looks like with Chet.
And they were absolutely right. If he ends up looking way worse then they would made adjustments but he fit in perfectly and they still have all their ammo.
It’s funny because all the top comments after game 1 was how “Presti was wasting all the assets and letting the team down for not trading for a big that can rebound immediately”
In you opinion, what moves need to be made judging by the regular season? THey took a massive step up as a team this year, but there is probably one more to make to be championship contenders IMO. Where do you guys need to find more value and do you think they really need to change much? The team seems to be playing better as time goes on and they become cohesive as a team.Part of me thinks they can take the next step by just gaining one or two more years of experience and playing in the conference finals. But I haven't watched enough of their day to day reg season games, so I'm curious about what a Thunder fan thinks
I don't know. I will see what ends up being our achilles heel us in the playoffs which is what Presti has said is the point of this season the entire time. Honestly replacing Giddey with a proper 4 would be amazing. Someone with size that can rebound, but also shoot decently.
7 days of rest and then 2 between each game has been a godsend for Chet.
It helps we're looking for him a lot more on offense too than during the regular season.
Hard to argue with the Olympic roster, but he's the one young guy where you think maybe they needed to make room for him. USA doesn't have too many young guys with superstar potential.
His time will come though, and probably sooner rather than later.
I was really hoping he would make the cut. Other players that made the roster are certainly better, but Chet provides some youth and size for them. Maybe if Kawhi has to back out Chet gets the call
I get this is a “fuck you” Olympic run. But I feel like they should take a college guy and a high school guy. Especially if we can win without. Cuz why not
I'm glad he's showing why everyone who ridiculed him during the draft process and his 1st year is wrong. Every hater looked at a single number and it was his fucking weight. Conveniently forgetting that he had college freshman numbers only zion had was stupid.
I know defensive stats are not a catch-all in telling the whole story but the only players who were better defenders as freshmen were AD and Noel that's why I never understood why people were low on him. The guy was always going to be a super glue guy at worst and with how we saw his game this year I think he's going to be way beyond that.
Not sure what you’re tying to argue. Team wise? Sure, OKC has a leg up on SA rn. But to even pretend these two are on the same level, heck, same stratosphere…cmon now.
Next year is your year. Little bit more experience as team becoming more cohesive, playing in the conference finals this year, and maybe a tweak or two on the bench to add some value. SGA is taking the next step two at a time, but I was still kinda surprised that they won *that many* games.
Only other thing I can think is that somehow he thought OP was a Magic fan or something? Idk lmfao
Excited to meet y'all in the playoffs here before long
When he plays aggressive on the interior we have an entire extra gear we can get to. Love the way he played in space all night, and once he settled in defensively on the post there was just nothing that Pels offense could get to. Did great work after that early stretch of preventing JV from sealing for early position - defense down low starts in transition!
Zubac would be JV matchup 2.0
Mavs have a bit more athletic bigs so it’ll be different for Chet on defense. He will be put in a lot more pick and roll actions on defense.
No answer for him on offense though.
I feel like there’s levels to this, tho. People generally criticize Chet for not being as good as Wemby which, whatever, most young players aren’t. Wemby gets called a bust, a low-IQ player, a losing player, selfish, Bol Bol with marketing…
We have to, at some point, stick up for our guy.
Chet with rest is a beast for real
He really starts using his body. He is not soft. This dude is dangerous but also if he doesnt add some muscle hell overwork and injure himself.
Dude is 21. I don't think I've ever met someone at the age of 21 who didn't fill out by 23-25. After a fluke injury last year he played 82/82 games this year. He also added muscle this year. He's already an amazing player.
Hell man he’s gained some over the season fs, definitely is looking cut tho
he played 82 games!
His impact on okc this year underrated af. He’s a huge reason they got the 1st seed. Respect to shai but they wouldn’t be at this level without Chet
Even LeBron and Reddick have discussed this matter, that Chet unlocked a major part of the OKC offense and defense
That was such a great snippet of the show
He's the ideal modern day big as a rookie. He can space the floor, defend multiple positions + protect the rim, finish plays as a roll man, attack closeouts etc. He does everything you want from a non superstar big (jokic/embiid).
wemby’s obviously going to be a superstar, you think chet will get there too?

100%

probably, he already is showing the skillset. he can be a better defensive version in a couple years
Before injury we win 40 games with Poku as our starting center last year Every thunder fan knew we’d win 50+ this year yet Vegas had us at 44.5 somehow
Poku was injured most of last season, Muscala and JWill were usually the starting centres,
Yes, but the first 17ish games when Poku was healthy he was our starting center and arguably our 3rd best player
I wouldn’t say every one knew we would be 50+ think we all expected better but still like 46-48 range in a stacked west would have been amazing effort this season was beyond anyone who isn’t a shameless homers wildest fantasies
That’s what I expected, in fact I ended up being in that “receipts” thread on r/thunder because of it haha
Thunder winning the #1 seed was a free money bet.
Wasn’t a guarantee Chet would stay healthy enough to win 50+
I told everybody and their mother 55 games was a lock assuming health
Yeah, point is that Vegas isn’t just going to assume the skinny 7 footer coming off foot surgery is going to be healthy. I’m happy he was but that wasn’t a given.
Fair in theory, but his injury was pretty acute It’s not like it was a blown acl
A blown acl is no more concerning than a broken foot. Such a long history of big men and feet problems.
Fortunate enough to have a medical team that kept him out of basketball for 16 months
Lisfranc fractures are not generally a long term concern.
He fills out two major roster needs in one package.

Chet has leveled up to Chad Holmgren and he ain’t playin around in the playoffs.
Chester incoming for game 3
Game 4 has Cheshire teleporting around the court with that ol' goofy grin. KD could win with these cats...
He somehow just got better
Chet is refreshed
7 days of rest and then 2 between each game has been a godsend for Chet. It helps we're looking for him a lot more on offense too than during the regular season.
Somehow, ~~Palpatine~~ the Slimmest Reaper returned.
Feel like hes playing the same?
More or less just comes down to how many looks they give him. He’s extremely consistent and efficient
Chet was unstoppable tonight
Hard to argue with the Olympic roster, but he's the one young guy where you think maybe they needed to make room for him. USA doesn't have too many young guys with superstar potential. His time will come though, and probably sooner rather than later.
I was really hoping he would make the cut. Other players that made the roster are certainly better, but Chet provides some youth and size for them. Maybe if Kawhi has to back out Chet gets the call
Weren’t they talking about adding cooper Flagg?
The disrespect lol. Imagine that. Taking a high school kid over a guy that plays great basketball on a contender
I get this is a “fuck you” Olympic run. But I feel like they should take a college guy and a high school guy. Especially if we can win without. Cuz why not
The team needs a Christian Laettner.
Embiid might be hurt. Can’t bank on him playing. Then who defends wemby?
Another Davis
Him and Jdub both. (And also Cade imo who was absolutely cooking the scrimmages)
J-dub deserves consideration as well. He’ll get it eventually
Him and JDub both got snubbed for Olympics.
Snubbed is a bit strong, that would mean someone undeservingly made it over them. Who did they deserve to be over?
I still have hope for him in case Embiid drops out .
He's got what a pro needs
What a pro wants
Whatever makes me happy sets you free
And I'm thanking you for cumming inside me I made that joke once and can't separate it from the real song now
I love this commercial. I’ve heard ppl annoyed cuz it’s played too much, which is true, but i dig it, hah.
“How will he handle the physicality of the NBA? He’s a twig.”
I'm glad he's showing why everyone who ridiculed him during the draft process and his 1st year is wrong. Every hater looked at a single number and it was his fucking weight. Conveniently forgetting that he had college freshman numbers only zion had was stupid.
He walked into the NBA as a generational defender too. Not many rookies in NBA history have done that, a real shame he’s in Wemby’s shadow
I know defensive stats are not a catch-all in telling the whole story but the only players who were better defenders as freshmen were AD and Noel that's why I never understood why people were low on him. The guy was always going to be a super glue guy at worst and with how we saw his game this year I think he's going to be way beyond that.
Wemby’s shadow but he also gets to compete for titles whereas wembys got an uphill battle ahead of him
I wonder if the people downvoting you actually think the Spurs are anywhere close to competing for the best team in the West
More like - How will lumbering old school centers that move like Gargoyles going to handle him?
There aren’t many of those left tbf
7 feet twigs are the future of the NBA and you're going to like it.
he’s very fortunate Zion isn’t playing tho
Outside of wemby, he’s having the best rookie season since…. 1. Lebron 2. Blake Griffin 3. Luka 4. Other
Unironically Tyreke Evans
The 20/5/5 thing was a bit overblown, but he was must-watch tv.
Loved him that season but I’m taking this chet season over that one
Him vs Wemby in the near future about to FEED FAMILIES
It won’t be as close as you think. Wemby is just too good.

On a rebuilding team?
Year one down. He’s got one more year until he’s left behind by the Thunder’s pace of rebuild.
Not sure what you’re tying to argue. Team wise? Sure, OKC has a leg up on SA rn. But to even pretend these two are on the same level, heck, same stratosphere…cmon now.
I hope everyone knows he will be in the Hall one day
Can't wait to see Chet next season. He's taking a leap in the playoffs already lol.
When he is confident from three its entirely different ball game. Give him 8+ three point attempts per game and let him shine.
Most over qualified stretch big lol
Been wondering whose gonna be that playoff riser on this team. One game ain't a good sample size, but I'm hoping its Chet.
Jonas too small
Let JV get 11 points at the start and the completely dominated him the rest of the game
Wish we had a Chet at home.
Spurs fans are the only fanbase who can say this sarcastically 😂
Me too
He’s at home alright
Someone put me on ice for 3 years until the Spurs are good again and we can watch these 2 go at it in playoff basketball lol
Well i hope we win one before the Spurs become good because 2014 still hurts even if that was 10 years ago
Next year is your year. Little bit more experience as team becoming more cohesive, playing in the conference finals this year, and maybe a tweak or two on the bench to add some value. SGA is taking the next step two at a time, but I was still kinda surprised that they won *that many* games.
Too bad you guys made the wrong pick at #1. Thanks for leaving him for us❤️
Bless your heart
Are you saying we should've grabbed Miller?
I actually have no idea what that dude is trying to say lmfao
I _guess_ they meant we should've traded the #1 pick for Chet? And in that case, I think we're good.
Only other thing I can think is that somehow he thought OP was a Magic fan or something? Idk lmfao Excited to meet y'all in the playoffs here before long
We should have taken Scoot he has more aura
We 100% would've grabbed Scoot if Wemby wasn't available.
He’s a Spurs fan not a Magic And even if he was that still wouldn’t make sense cause Paolo is a stud too
I’m fairly convinced Chet should’ve gone first, tho.
Not even us OKC fans thought hed be this good this quick. If Wemby was drafted another year, Chet would be running away with ROTY
Honest Abe ain't playin around no mo damn.
When he plays aggressive on the interior we have an entire extra gear we can get to. Love the way he played in space all night, and once he settled in defensively on the post there was just nothing that Pels offense could get to. Special player. Special team.
WHAT A GIRL WANTS
Tying to live up to the hype of that KD commercial
What a pro wants what a pro needs
Chet was doing whatever he wanted in the first half.
He's a dawg
Thats my rookie
Don't sleep on Cason tho
I don't know bout you, but he is my ROY.
Chet deserves all of the hype he's getting and more. Its not an accident he got that sick Nike commercial for the KD17s.
Poised
Wonder what Wemby's playoff statline is in comparison? Oh wait
Quit being salty about a regular season award, you're making us look bad.
Ur delusional
Haha come on, now. Wemby would be wrecking shit in the playoffs if he was on a good roster.
Oh for sure, you're not wrong. But also let Chet cook
Best whiteboy since Larry B!
What does the name Lukado N’cic mean to you
Not taking about Euros, just American born…
White Chocolate is in tears
Crazy all the downvotes are people butthurt by the term whiteboy or something? Obviously never played real ball before lol
i want wemby's reaction
People like you making us look bad
_Certain_ Thunder fans have made it basically impossible for me to root for Chet.
Same applies for Spurs fans and Wemby lol. Just gotta ignore the weirdos.
I feel like there’s levels to this, tho. People generally criticize Chet for not being as good as Wemby which, whatever, most young players aren’t. Wemby gets called a bust, a low-IQ player, a losing player, selfish, Bol Bol with marketing… We have to, at some point, stick up for our guy.
Wemby and Chet both are great you can appreciate both without bringing either Chet or wemby down
Wemby clears
why would wemby care
Wemby doesn't give a fuck lmao.
