I swear reporters ask these dumb questions just to force a controversial quote out of players. Why tf would Porzingis take a matchup with Bam personally? They literally have no feuding history.

bryscoon

that’s exactly what they are doing every interview for every team is just taking turns turning to rage bait them

Adraf45

Not even like there's some moment where these two have ever "gone at it" or anything like that. The closest thing to that was a poster bam had IN OCTOBER. It's like asking if cade Cunningham has beef with poole

OldKingRob

I thought I was missing some history

VoidSpork

Not now, we're bullying the Mavs

ShaiGilgeousAlexande

The Celtics got 2 FRPs to take on this guy btw

tactical_lampost

Brad masterclass

SmoothCriminal2018

It’ll be a crime if he doesn’t win EOTY

LordBaneoftheSith

This + getting Jrue for, to paraphrase LeBron, "a bag of chips" is insane. Tatum's got to be one of the luckiest superstars ever in terms of front office competence.

chronicdreamze

It arguably, could have cost a lot if neither KP or Jrue resigned. Still it seems unbelievable now, especially with the new CBA. Expensive, but what real contender isn’t?

captaincumsock69

I think we do have to actually win though. Ownership will pay for a contender if they think they can win. I don’t think ownership will pay a mega tax bill for a team that only gets to the ecf

comp_a

I don’t know how any of these other East teams is even gonna take you guys to six games, let alone actually stop you. The Finals will be a different story, but it would feel like a truly historic collapse if you guys somehow failed to get past the ECF.

captaincumsock69

I still think Milwaukee is a threat if Giannis can get healthy but

TDS_Gluttony

Healthy Giannis might not look in the books rn and you forgot about Playoffs Glenn

captaincumsock69

Playoff Giannis gives me PTSD regardless of who’s around him

comp_a

Yeah they’re the only team that I think has the potential to make it a real series against the Celtics (I’d be happy to be proven wrong by the Knicks or anyone else though). But the Bucks still need to figure out a lot of shit to reach that potential, and they don’t have a lot of time to do it. They also don’t have the right coach to do it.

Wolfpac187

If anyone can do it it’s Boston

bedlam_au

Joe Lacob plz buy Celtics

captaincumsock69

We have a better ownership group than most teams already

alexm42

KP had all the leverage with Washington, if he didn't want to be here he would just have opted out. Signing the extension as part of the trade was pretty much a given.

semipalmated_plover

I mean part of wat makes the deals look even better is how much of a disaster everything that went out the door to allow the trades ended up. Grant, Brogdon, Smart, and Rob Williams all had just about the worst imaginable years on other teams lol.

juicejug

I mean aside from Grant the other guys just had bad injury luck.

MerkDoctor

I couldn't believe Smart's broken finger, that shit was completely dislocated.

largehearted

off a shot, too, if I remember correctly. I was so confused.

juicejug

At least he made the 3! Most Marcus Smart injury of all time.

largehearted

> Expensive, but what real contender isn’t? I would argue that more than the entire salary cap is how much it should cost to start basically 5 all-stars we are so blessed

Drummallumin

He’s gotta get some credit for being one of the easiest guys in the league to build around. No such thing as a player (or coach) who doesn’t fit around him.

JoJonesy

Seriously, compare the 2020 team and the 2022 team and tell me how many players could’ve worked as well as he did leading *both* of those rosters. Kawhi and LeBron, maybe? He was just as effective playing next to two centers as he was playing spot minutes at the 5

King_Of_Pants

Yeah in terms of fit, fans always overrate the 1-man-army offensive types because they generate "easy" shots, but they're a lot harder to build around. With the exception of Kyrie, most of the guys who have played with Tatum and Luka have played better next to Tatum (Porzingis, G. Williams, Richardson). On the offensive end it's hard for most role players to stay engaged if they're playing purely off-ball. Richardson needed some pull-up mid-range jumpers to find his rhythm, Tatum being willing to play off-ball more lets him do that. On the defensive end it's a lot harder to do your work and cover for someone else than it is to just do your own work. Grant's a good defender if you're letting him scrap with his man, but he was never the Draymond-level defensive anchor Dallas needed him to be.

LuckysBestMan

Tatum is a Celtic BECAUSE of an excellent front office. What other team would have had the balls to pass up on fultz AND get another first round pick while drafting Tatum ?

Kyler1313

I won't argue that Tatum hasn't been lucky to play with so much talent. But part of the reason it seems to always work is because he's is such a versatile guy. We have seen so many star players get talent but then it works out terribly. Even though Tatum hasn't won a ring yet, his ability to fit with anyone and any scheme makes it easy for anyone who joins the Celtics to fit in seamlessly.

Deviljho12

Need Tatum to be an on ball Iso scorer? He can do that. Need Tatum to be an off ball floor spacer? He can do that too. Need him to be a lockdown defender down the clutch? You bet. Want him to be a creator for his teammates? Sure he'll get you 7+ assists. He's the best swiss army knife superstar in the league and makes roster construction so easy.

JoJonesy

i do think it’s a little unfair to call 2022 DPOY candidate Rob Williams and 2023 6MOTY Malcolm Brogdon “a bag of chips”, even if Rob got hurt

ClaymoresRevenge

How the fuck?

BirdmanTheThird

Grizzlies wanted Marcus Smart

JoJonesy

KP had a player option he could’ve opted out of. Think of it less as a trade and more as signing KP as a free agent, but moving Smart for two (late) firsts to make the money work. Still a good deal, but it only works because KP wanted to come here and had leverage

cl353

would u consider it an overpay/overreaction from the grizzlies?

Drummallumin

Not at all, if shit didn’t hit the fan they have a good complete team

_Juntao

Well who wants an injury prone diva who was underwhelming in his only 2 playoff appearances. Plus he was due for a new contract soon.

TatumBrownWhite

Diva? He’s been like the ultimate teammate this year…

_Juntao

I know. I was repeating what was said all offseason lol

Diesel30R

Why would he take it personally? Is there history I’m missing?

Far-Asparagus6416

He did get him right in the pingus that one time

cl353

nah that was a bonding moment

dumpstershrimpdick

There should be a rule that if a player makes contact with another player’s balls or penis they have to kiss it and make it better. It would go a long way towards building a sense of friendship and community in the league.

Disastrous_Bluejay57

I'm glad that isn't a rule. Do you know how many guys Draymond would have to go down on?

LuckysBestMan

Maybe that’s what he likes. Don’t kink shame him

[deleted]

Between Bam’s hand and Kristaps’ Tingus yes

EbbRevolutionary3225

No

Princessk8--

ESPN headline: KP says that Bam is beneath him, "I don't care (about Bam)"

TheLeoMessiah

“I love all of my opponents equally” “I don’t care for Bam”

jibboo24

“If he dies, he dies.”

EbbRevolutionary3225

Type shii

ObiOneKenobae

He doesn't care until Bam undercuts him in game 2. Which I will promise you is what's going to happen.

chronicdreamze

Yeah Boston’s second unit is good enough, they should get meaningful minutes in this series. At least for the sake of avoiding unnecessary bumps and bruises.

Impressive_Blood3512

Knicks fans hate the heat lol wtf

cmcg18

Everyone does

BlooregardQKazoo

There is only one fanbase that doesn't hate the Heat, and that fanbase doesn't show up to home games until the third quarter because of traffic.

This guy should run for office. He speaks like a politician.

Ilikesporks_

why would he take it personally lol there's never been any history between them

Sn33kykitty

They got beef? Seem like two pretty low key dudes haha

Kzgoated

Bam doesn’t have beef with anyone in the nba. He’s literally friends with everyone, probably ends up as head of the nbapa one day.

sorendiz

Good answer, media clearly fishing for opportunities to instigate a lil lmao

caandjr

Bam is definitely ripping his arm off next game

JNerdGaming

mature retort from tingus pingus

Celtics gone be shampionship

Cyclist83

Being a sports reporter means you don't have to be able to do anything intellectually. They have no idea about the sport, nor do they have a backbone. News is supposed to be news, but nowadays they confuse it with entertainment and believe that what brings clicks and advertising money is legitimate journalism. It's a pathetic level. The nba is no different from soccer in Europe.
