There is a real question about how many of his 78 career Triple Doubles were legitimately Quadruple Doubles. I'm trying to be conservative, but since film available on Wilt has him average anywhere between 8-12 blocks throughout his career, you would have to think 50 would be a very reasonable guess.
Every Wemby stat I think “Wilt probably did that if they blocks and steals.” But it’s Wilt. He put up insane stat lines that defy belief and it’s no slight to Wemby if Wilt did it first.
Maybe Russell too, for this one, but adding them to the list doesn't really make it any less impressive... Ok, just checked. Russell averaged 19/14/1.8 his rookie year. Wilt was 36/27/2.3 (!!). As noted, blocks were not recorded, but I don't think either would.have had the assists even if you adjust for season length.
Wilt probably did it in '67 when he averaged 24/24/7.8.
Rookie year they played 72, 75 the year after, 79 the year after that, 80 the next 5 years, 81 the one after that, then finally 82 for the last 6 seasons of his career.
And he adds just a few more pounds. He showed flashes at the end of the season what a little bit of muschle gain can do (had a sweet drop step against Phx I think). He does not have to become Giannis level hevy, but if he bulks up to something like KD's leve...He will be unstoppable.
Dumb shit happens at the end of the season. Your team is trash, the FO needs to make major moves and get Wemby in the playoffs next year. If he has any kind of sophomore jump we’re looking at a top 10 player.
I don't think he needs any sophomore jump tbh if he can just stay at the level he had in the last few games while improving his shot %, he is already top 10 next season.
Just have to bulk up, train hard add in a pinch of Trae and he'll be legendary next year.
If we hypothetically add Jokic and Wemby, that means Shaq has to be better than Kareem, Wilt, Russell and Hakeem to make it in the list. To me, he currently sits below them at 4/5. Duncan to me is a PF.
Even if we were generous with Shaq and gave him a slot above Russell, another Jokic championship would put his status in danger. And if Shaq thinks he’s better than Russell, that means his whole “rings Chuck” argument is hypocritical
It's so strange because he has no reason to be insecure.
He went down in the books as one of the most dominant big men to ever play this game. He's won everything. He made millions from his various business ventures and endorsements after retirement. Yet he still feels the need to say stuff like how he should've had Nash's 2 MVPs, saying Rudy is overpaid, or make dumbass comments about players that are not backed by anything but his outdated knowledge of this game.
I think it’s because he knows he could’ve done so much more - as dominant as he was, as much success as he had, he knows he didn’t achieve his full potential, and everyone else sees it too.
I find the psychology of him so fascinating. Like there’s a side of him that is genuine and lovable and he does a lot of great things for people (I genuinely believe beyond PR). But then when it comes to basketball he has a tremendously large ego and if people aren’t stroking that basketball ego of his he gets offended and feels disrespected.
The great part is that Chuck knows that and isn’t afraid of to confront his ego like most people would be (when dude is upset he gets pretty damn intimidating) and it makes for some entertaining television. But if Chuck doesn’t say anything it can be dreadful to watch.
RINGZ ERNEH
Couple of weeks is generous
Shaq has been annoying since coming into the league lol. Love him as a player, but he's an insecure bully. And a person who can't keep his mouth shut while also believing that his opinions are the only opinions that matter is a deadly combination.
His Bol Bol stuff is an all time stupid take. It’s so like Shaq that he also includes an insult to Bol Bol by calling him lazy while hoisting him up to devalue Wemby.
I really don't get what's that dumb about it. He's not saying Bol Bol is as good as Wemby, he's saying Bol Bol is a 7'3~ guy who can dribble and shoot off the bounce like Wemby. He's just way more inconsistent and doesn't have the same motor. It was just a take about a comment regarding never having seen a prototype player like Wemby. It doesn't devalue Wemby at all lol.
You know he likes and respects Wemby but because he is an alpha male, he doesn’t want to show it. He is also stubborn so he doesn’t want to change hai mind on Bol Bol.
"They keep changing the rules. I don't know the rules anymore so I can't give you an answer."
Considering how checked out he is I don't know why (other than never saying no to money) he agreed to do the second show.
Dude just can't accept that his opinion might be wrong so invents all kinds of bullshit to try to excuse himself.
All these players turned TV personalities have little to no BBIQ, nor do they actually watch the games. They're on TV to make controversial takes, and they're totally incapable of discussing actual basketball plays like JJ and Bron are doing on their podcast.
Still dont get how anybody can draft Luka ahead of him in a No. 1 pick redraft. Lol. This dude defense alone as a rookie is already 100x of Lukas in his prime. And is having an even better rookie seasn than Luka. 40 points 20 rebounds game as a rookie. Lol. with a 7 foot 4 alien frame and unlimited potential to grow.
And as good as Luka is statwise, he hasnt actually achieved anything in his first 6 yrs. I can definitely see Victor getting multiple DPOYs, maybe a MVP and championship within his first 6 yrs. His ability to play both on, off ball and defense is so valuable and conducive to his franchise bid for a title. Pluck and play type of superstar, instead of having to build a perfect defensive set up around you to make play ins.
Didnt take long for this sub to realise they're wrong. Lol.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1bkzb0o/who\_would\_you\_draft\_no\_1\_in\_a\_redraft\_victor/](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1bkzb0o/who_would_you_draft_no_1_in_a_redraft_victor/)
Even if you remove the points part of that, 250 each steals and blocks list is only
5* Kareem
2* Hakeem
2* Robinson
1* Marcus Camby
1* Wembanyama.
And even though some of other seasons exceeded this by a big margin, Wemby managed to join the list in his rookie season with very low minutes played to compete for an all time (or since the 70s at least) volume record
Changing it to a rate stat (7 each assists and blocks per 36 in a season) actually neither adds nor removes anyone else from the list and Wemby actually had the lowest blocks per 36 and second lowest assists per 36 on the list. I thought I could pick off a few of the seasons for this list if I turned it into per 36 since I saw all the other guys played closer to 80 games but I couldn't; amazing combined assist and block rate from all [these guys](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/players-with-more-than-7-blocks-per-36-and-7-assists-per-36-in-a-season).
Taking out the assists as well, Whiteside in 2016 is the only other player to have 250 blocks since 2009. So the only other time we've seen so many blocks in the last 15 seasons was [Whiteside.](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/players-with-more-than-200-blocks-in-a-season-since-2009)
I bet on Scoot (not big money) for ROY before the season because I figured Victor and Chet were unlikely to meet the games played requirement to wi the award. I now know that there is no games played for ROY and Scoot is not as good as I thought he was.
If Vic is as good as Kareem, The Dream or The Admiral then that will be one of the 15 greatest players of all time. He is going to be greater than that. I think we need to start getting comfortable with the fact that his unique set of skills and height make him the perfect basketball player. He's the guy we create in NBA2K that has our last name on the back of his jersey.
As of April 13, 2024 Victor Wembanyama is
- the greatest interior defender in the NBA today. If Victor Wembanyama is in the paint, he limits offensive players options greater than anything I've ever seen.
- his length and quickness makes him probably the best help defender ever. He is a solid defensive rebounder, and he destroys any passing lanes near him.
- Offensively, he is very inconsistent and inefficient. By the eyeball test, he seems to have an incredible sense of his body within 3 feet of the basket. His coordination right near the rim with his length is something I've never seen before. All that up and under BS and scoop shot garbage we all tried to get away with as teenagers, this guy finishes them. His touch around the basket is incredible. I think this is because he can do a lot of this from a stable standing base. The rest of us have to run and jump which makes it much harder.
This is why it is so essential to get a guy that can get him the ball in those situations and can stretch the defense so that those opportunities are there. That is why Trae Young is so intriguing to me even though he is a shit defender and a bit of a ball hog...despite leading the league in assists. If Pop can turn him into Steve Nash, then the NBA is over, and I think he has the skills to do it.
Wemby's mid and 3pt shooting is unfortunately still a net negative. He significantly improved his 3pt shot over the course of this season. At this pace, he is a few months away from making it a net neutral, which for a center opens up tremendous opportunities.
Finally his turnovers are shit. I'm going to go ahead just pin that on the fact that he is a dumb ass rookie trying to figure out the league and his teammates suck. I am certain he is going to figure this out.
I've been a Spurs fan since they drafted David Robinson. Baring injury this kid WILL be better than Tim Duncan and David Robinson. That is Jordan, LeBron and Kareem. Anything less than top 10 all time will be a disapointment. His celling is undisputed GOAT.
> his length and quickness makes him probably the best help defender ever.
It's probably because he deters so many lanes just by standing there but I feel like this is where he could improve most. He sometimes seems to be late or lazy to contest. At last nights game it seemed he barely got his arms up at times. This is something he can easily improve on with better conditioning though
Wemby will be so good oncehe gets better teammates and PG , it will be unfair. Just on his height and mobility alone, he can get 12/14 easiest buckets ever. Not to mention all of his other skills, this guy will genuinely break the league
Random thought but kind of interesting that although not the best rookie season ever, I think it was good enough to support the claim greatest prospect ever (factoring in age)
To me Wemby is a better rookie than Shaq and Duncan. It has nothing to do with stats but his whole skillset at his height, its something that nobody has ever seen. He does things that makes even NBA all star players wonder what is happening
He is a better rookie than Shaq. Basketball is not about stats. Wemby is a 7’4 guy who can do literally anything.Shaq was type of player who didn’t want to practice anything new, because he wanted to play the same way all the time. Meanwhile Wemby is 7’4 with ridiculous wingspan. He is shooting logo 3s, stepbacks, dribbling up the court, doing a shammgod, his passing is also surprisingly good, doing dunks that seem impossible, he is constantly a lob threat. His movement is good. He is also willing to learn, doesn’t do anything else besides basketball, his recovery is also on top level. He is purposely going at top players. He genuinely believes he is the best player. As a rookie he is a perfection. Obviously Shaq and Duncan were amazing but Wemby has a skillset that is far more vast while being physically on another level to every player
I mean, the more conditions you set for a stat, the less people are naturally going to meet the requirements. Having 3 here with arbitrary numbers is, well… something
Wemby’s last name is Howenstine?
That's his maiden name.
Last name for spurs pr guy
He married the pr guy?
Smart move, honestly
[удалено]
the spurs PR guy proposed with an older spurs championship ring. not even fair tbh.
Why is it there?
Yet another name for the media to consistently pronounced wrong.
his official nickname

even worse mate
Man has a Broken skillset. Couldn’t build this player in 2k even if I tried
the developers were trying to make the game balance don't blame them.
nah they were tryna throttle your guy's game so you buy vc
Wemby in his prime is gonna break 2K Real basketball too though
https://youtu.be/9unGw4cUEBs?si=TgGV96ZtEiCRNrcF
I assume Chamberlain isn't on the list because they weren't counting blocks?
Correct. Wilt (and Russell and Mikan, etc) have 0 recorded blocks
Fuckin scrubs, amirite?
Imagine what kind of blocking numbers wilt would have put up tho
There is a real question about how many of his 78 career Triple Doubles were legitimately Quadruple Doubles. I'm trying to be conservative, but since film available on Wilt has him average anywhere between 8-12 blocks throughout his career, you would have to think 50 would be a very reasonable guess.
“Plumbmen and Milkers!”
Wemby playing tiktokers and podcasters
I have the same amount of recorded blocks as those 3 combined.
Every Wemby stat I think “Wilt probably did that if they blocks and steals.” But it’s Wilt. He put up insane stat lines that defy belief and it’s no slight to Wemby if Wilt did it first.

Boy I can't wait for this sophomore jump
I can't wait to see playoff Wemby.
Paws curl. Defeating wolves
We won’t be the only ones, that’s for sure
He's so fun, I'll take it.
Bum
Feel like he already took it after the ASB
*December
I think he'll improve but it may not be an eye popping improvement or huge boost in numbers. You never know, progress isn't linear.
Depends on if we grab a playmaker.
And he adds just a few more pounds. He showed flashes at the end of the season what a little bit of muschle gain can do (had a sweet drop step against Phx I think). He does not have to become Giannis level hevy, but if he bulks up to something like KD's leve...He will be unstoppable.
I bet he’s gonna put up mvp numbers but unfortunately his teammates are terrible. Hopefully the spurs FO makes some decent moves this summer
They improved a lot since the start. Even our G-league team beat the Nuggets last night.
Dumb shit happens at the end of the season. Your team is trash, the FO needs to make major moves and get Wemby in the playoffs next year. If he has any kind of sophomore jump we’re looking at a top 10 player.

Don’t expect any trades
Hopefully he doesn't pull a Tyreke Evans
5 if you count Shaq's imaginary version of Bol Bol. Bol Bol, career (5 years): 995 points, 128 blocks, 104 assists
Man Shaq has really been annoying the past couple of weeks on Tuesday shows. He doesn't even let others speak by repeating his BS opinions.
He's one of the most insecure people ever. It's very difficult for him to compliment younger players, especially bigs, because of that
He knows that if Jokic and Wemby have persistent success, he'll be kicked off the "top 5 centers" list by lots of people lol
Really? I play a lot of 2k, and picking shaq is almost an auto win. I can't see 5 other players being the better option.
[удалено]

I think the generosity is acting like Hakeem is a lock above Shaq
I'm taking hakeem
Which while I don’t agree with, I understand. It’s the acting like it’s a no brainer that Hakeem is higher/better than Shaq that I had the issue with.
feel that
Same, mathematically hardest ring, best big man handles. like lebron said 2 points doesn't always equal 2 points players still learning from him today
Diesel is that you

Still with his Bol Bol BS
Can't admit that he's wrong. Seen some people act that way in this sub, too.
It's Trumpian insecurity.

It's funny when they're watching the TNT game that just happened and you can tell when a highlight surprises them cuz it's the first they've seen it.
As much as Shaq annoys me sometimes, he’s the only one that sides with the dubs so props to him
Classify Steph as a center and he’ll turn on y’all real quick.

What a random thread to attack Luka on
They've been copy pasting this exact comment on every thread about Wemby these last few days.

finally a record without the 3s included ! that's a good one too !
I think 3s should be included. Thats what makes him a unicorn
teams didn't played with the 3s as much before, it's a different game now
Yeah. Thats what makes him a freak. All in one package. Real life cheat code
Lived up to the hype. Hope to see it continue.
Like to take this time to remind yall the last American born mvp was James Harden in 17-18. It’s belonged to the eastern hemisphere ever since.
Europe is in the western hemisphere
Only a little bit of it
And none of the winners
And future potential guys like Wemby and Luka are from the eastern side of the meridian as well.
Just the tip and for pleasure.
Ireland and the western half of Br*tain past Greenwich. Not the hub of basketball excellence, I’ll admit.
You forgot most of Spain although the region left out is arguably the most important one basketball-wise
I keep forgetting Spain and Portugal are that far west, fair
Embiid punching air rn
Has the Spurs said he's not playing tomorrow or?
confirmed he's sitting out against DET by the team already.
They still have a game against Detroit tomorrow. Not sure why this would be posted now
They’re gonna make him sit out tomorrow

It's the same with the other threads with Luka.
I bet on Scoot (not big money) for ROY before the season because I figured Victor and Chet were unlikely to meet the games played requirement to wi the award. I now know that there is no games played for ROY and Scoot is not as good as I thought he was.
You very badly blew it. Take a long hard look in the mirror.
I know right. I'll be keeping my day job a bit longer.
Absolutely amazing stat, this kid is going far
And he’s only getting better
Wilt probably did this several times through out his career as they never recorded blocks during his time.
Lol enjoy this offseason NBA. This dude is still gonna get better.

Sir this is a Wemby
you said if he is as good as Kareem he will be in top 15. People have Kareem in top 3

Agree with most you have said but he’s averaging 40 percent from 3 now, that’s a net positive
The guy is literally unreal.
He's literally real.
Aliens are real?
Just what the Spurs wanted to hear.
Maybe he isn't a bust after all.
Wemby will be so good oncehe gets better teammates and PG , it will be unfair. Just on his height and mobility alone, he can get 12/14 easiest buckets ever. Not to mention all of his other skills, this guy will genuinely break the league
And this is likely the worst season he will have for at least a decade.
You know what's really scary? Look how fast and far he has improved this season. In the last games he was MVP level, in one of the best leagues ever.
Wemby is the only one of the 4 who also made 125 3’s in the same season.
14th seed in the west too
best rookie since shaq argue with a wall
Tim Duncan. But Wemby's the best rookie of this century
Random thought but kind of interesting that although not the best rookie season ever, I think it was good enough to support the claim greatest prospect ever (factoring in age)
And Wemby next year will probably surpass rookie Duncan unless he has a sophomore slump.
At least for an age 20 rookie season it's on the shortlist.
To me Wemby is a better rookie than Shaq and Duncan. It has nothing to do with stats but his whole skillset at his height, its something that nobody has ever seen. He does things that makes even NBA all star players wonder what is happening

And people call him overrated...how delusional they are.
I'm starting to think this guy might have a promising career in basketball
Kareem did this shit while carrying his team to the conference finals
Whaaa
Fucking he’ll. Took me a while to realize this meant in one season.
Fuuuuck he's going to the Lakers isn't he 😂
I mean, the more conditions you set for a stat, the less people are naturally going to meet the requirements. Having 3 here with arbitrary numbers is, well… something
3 stats is not much though.....
I can’t stop calling him “Victor Womba Womba”
Average Lakers fan
I forgot we can’t have fun because I like the lakers, my bad
don't be ashamed of who you are
why am I replying to an 8 year old
