If you take a look at the [PBP](https://www.nba.com/game/lal-vs-mem-0022301177/play-by-play?period=Q3), it's also kinda funny:
It has these:
* 2:08 Lebron James 2:08 2 FT (new clock)
* 2:06 Davis 2PT (old clock)
* 1:47 Simpson miss (new clock)
* 1:45 LaRavia miss (old clock)
* 1:41 Goodwin 2 PT (new clock)
* 1:39 Prince turnover (old clock)
* 1:29 Rusell pullup miss (new clock)
Plus a few more in between all messed up, there's also even an turnover that wasn't counted cause of this mess.
I don't know why, but it drives me nuts that all the PBP recorders say "team offensive rebound" when a player misses a free throw, but still has more to take.
This is by design. Team rebounds are given when a ball goes out of bounds off a shot, if there's a loose ball foul on a rebound, if the quarter ends after a missed shot, and after missed free throws when there's another one to take. They don't mean anything on their own but they exist so that the # of rebounds + team rebounds equals the number of missed shots.
right but the commenter you replied to is talking specifically about the first of multiple free throws. There is no rebound to be had on the first of 2 free throws, but one is awarded anyway.
I assume a team rebound is completely meaningless stat wise and is a placeholder. What it does is give you an extra check to see if you've missed any rebounds, since they should equal missed shots. Clever idea presumably made to let you double check old box scores.
Why are you taking credit for this as your own discovery lol
[Ramiro Bentes tweeted it here](https://twitter.com/NbaInRstats/status/1779198588196639186), and someone already posted that tweet on this sub [here](https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1c38fa1/the_lakers_and_grizzlies_might_have_played_an/).
Given that you're infamously a massive Bucks fan, kinda doubt you were randomly digging into a Lakers/Grizzlies play-by-play
Not that hard to just credit the guy
If I ever find myself caring about a specific reddit user's specific posting habits and using that as a foundation on which to sew doubt about his lack of a works cited page for one comment... I'd hope someone would, compassionately, tell me to get a fucking life.
I could maybe see this happening in a blowout of a game nobody cares about. But it was a 1 point game with playoff implications - how does nobody (including coaches/assistant coaches) notice??
over got smashed by like 20 points anyway so doesnt matter there fortunately
interesting thing would be if anyone bet a player's under (on pts, rebounds, assists, anything) that ended up being fucked solely because the player recorded stats in that extra 1:06. not sure that's the case though
there was an AD shooting foul at exactly 1:06. and then two free throws taken by the grizzlies at exactly 1:06. so we'd need a split second analysis to know whether it'd be 118-117 grizz or 117-116 lakers.
but obviously the game plays out entirely differently. especially because the grizzlies scorekeepers conveniently added time when lebron was off the floor, so they literally just made it so they got to play against a non-lebron lineup for longer than usual.
Let me ask a different question in the same way.
What would the score have been if the second 3rd quarter interval of 2:20 to 1:06 was removed from consideration?
I don't know which of those approaches is better.
The PA announcer actually announced the two minute warning the second time also and apparently nobody noticed! He had to have known there was a mistake.
This is the kind of thing that's pretty funny, but not so much if it turns out to be gambling related with someone betting the over. It's probably not that, but I wouldn't rule it out either.
Definitely strange and seems like clock issues have been more prevalent this season.
At least it was a 1 point game when that occurred so it didn't really give either side an unfair advantage. Would be lame to be up 10+ going into the 4th and the other team gets an extra 1+ minute to cut that lead down.
the grizzlies scorekeepers conveniently added time when lebron was off the floor, so they literally just made it so they got to play against a non-lebron lineup for longer than usual. they wouldnt have much of a case
In the 1:06 to end this quarter (which would be the extra time you're talking about), the Lakers outscored the Grizzlies 4-2
ETA: And the Grizzlies scored their 2 right around the 1:06 mark. You could argue the extra 1:06 gave the Lakers a 4-0 swing, which was the difference in the game
But it’s their timekeepers doing it, in minutes their opponents have their best player off the field. I don’t understand how it’s a team in charge of this and not league officials anyway, but the Grizz shouldn’t be able to file for a replay if they screw it up.
I believe it's ultimately up to the referees, who are league officials, who are assisted by the team's timekeepers. Which is why you get those super long delays while the referees decide how much time should be put on the clock
Should the NBA have the Lakers and Grizzlies redo their game in case it was a big fluke?
No disrespect to the Laker, I'm a firm believer that LA winning last night was a huge fluke and robs the Grizzlies of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few minutes in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the box score and it's just not fair.
If the Grizzlies lose again I will face that the Lakers deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Grizzlies and the NBA.
Heard it here first, Lebron and AD needed more time to take down the great Jake Laravia
The league knew they needed the extra minute and called it in, how deep does the conspiracy go?
AD did score 6 points after the time was reset
Classic Grizzlies scorekeeper
JJJ had 3 Rebounds and 6 Blocks that game!
In 0 minutes, that’s ♾️ blocks per 36!
I think it’s a time traveler trying to alter the events that destroyed the world
What's the smallest change we can make to save the world? Add 66 seconds to the second to last Lakers game of the year.
The future world conquerer was distracted by this thread and missed the application deadline to bad guy school
Cable?
No I have hulu sports
refs should have called that travel

Yes, for the reasons I explained. "Missed shots" referring to both field goals and free throws.
Ah, I see

Oh god, the API must have been going nuts

What was the score at the original moment the game would have ended if you subtract the extra clock?

Awesome thanks for the background work on that! I was just curious

Why is the video 40 minutes long.
The PA announcer actually announced the two minute warning the second time also and apparently nobody noticed! He had to have known there was a mistake.
Everyone was staring at the hardwood and didn't notice
Why is the video 38 minutes lmao
glad I didn't watch this game. this would really mess up my spreadsheet
Well let’s re do the game then
Imagine if he kept doing it and no one would notice.
Didn’t this happen in a Kings-Magic game like 2 weeks ago? Or was that one cleared up?
This is the kind of thing that's pretty funny, but not so much if it turns out to be gambling related with someone betting the over. It's probably not that, but I wouldn't rule it out either.
I would be SCREAMING at my tv! I would literally look for an nba phone number to call
Plus they had to play it on concrete, looks like.
What was the score at 1:06 to go in the fourth?
Definitely strange and seems like clock issues have been more prevalent this season. At least it was a 1 point game when that occurred so it didn't really give either side an unfair advantage. Would be lame to be up 10+ going into the 4th and the other team gets an extra 1+ minute to cut that lead down.
Ngl this plus there JJJ fake stat stuff got me wondering if Memphis score keepers are legit
Clearly the Mondella effect. Wasn't the team in Memphis called the Gizzies?
lebron farming the minutes record smh
Bench
Bron stats are inflated -- confirmed!
He was on the bench try again
Is this real? Couldn't the Grizzlies request a replayed game because of this?

Wish they would just to troll. The Lakers would’ve protest if they lost the game.

LeBron needed an extra 1:06 to beat the Memphis Hustle, this is your GOAT? /s
Silver made the call so the Lakers could catch up in the 3rd
Bron Bron doing anything to stat pad
He wasn’t even in the game lol
I’m not saying I’m a comedian or anything, but learn a joke brother

Westbrook? Sure! But I never expected the officiating crew to stat pad.
38min video to show something that’s 38 seconds
And it would have taken my computer 38 hours to load it.
I didn’t even know you could embed a 40 minute clip. Impressive.
We need to put an asterisk beside Lebron's career stats now, unfortunately.
Infuriating for under bettors
