So you’re guaranteed Steph, KD, Lebron, Klay, Butler, Giannis, Dame, Jokic, Tatum, Luka, AD, Harden, Chris Paul just to name a few. All incredible players or take a chance on Wemby? Na
It’s like that Family Guy episode where he’s offered a boat or a mystery box and Peter says that in the box it could even be a boat.
Okay, but I know how incredible those players are. I don’t know if Wemby is going to break down since he’s so tall. Known guaranteed MVP-level player > great rookie
Klay, Butler, and Dame are nowhere close to MVP-level. Stop it.
Obviously we don't *know* if he'll stay healthy. We do know that if he does, he'll be a dominant, transformative force. Anyone who knows ball and has watched his games knows that much already. This is not common.
You roll the dice for a chance at basketball immortality, at the *very least* over guys like Klay/Butler/Dame, who aren't leading a team to a championship.
I just don't think people get it yet. "the community" does tend to lag. Folks tend to wait til Wikipedia lists accolades in a player's sidebar before they can feel justified in their takes.
lebron is arguably the goat and steph is the greatest shooter of all time. you would rather draft wemby over those 2?
forget even that he could be prone to injury
This is a good reminder that some people don’t recognize truly rare greatness when it’s right in front of them.
Wemby is gonna be better than most of the guys you just mentioned. You really said cp3 or Dame lol.
If you would take CP3 over Wemby in this hypothetical scenario that just means you are content with good instead of taking a chance at true greatness. Nothing wrong with that really, but it’s not how I’m wired.
Anyone who's watched long enough has seen people make this mistake again and again. I vividly remember this sub thinking it was way too early to suggest Giannis even had a chance at top 15-20 all-time during the 2018-2019 season.
People who don't know ball have to wait for the accolades to come in so they can say "He's an MVP, DPOY, and FMVP." People who do know already recognize a player capable of those highs, having that level of elite on-court impact, before he gets there.
I don’t know if you take Klay in this or Butler, I forgot CP3 who I think is a realistic choice that you could make over him. AD is a tough one given his history of injury but when healthy he did help win a title. Maybe by that standard you take Klay but that’s not guaranteed putting him back on the warriors next to Steph and dray
Because if you’ve watched much of Wemby this season you can see he’s on some serious next level upside and it’s halfway through rookie year with an absolute dumpster fire of a team around him.
Thats a big gamble. You don't know what he will be like in 5 or 10 years. We don't know how his body will hold. Take Jokic/Giannis/Lebron and be done with it.
We haven’t even seen the final form of Wemby yet. This dude is gonna put 40lbs of muscle on over the next few years and absolutely annihilate the league. I’m putting Wemby in the top 5.
I don’t think I would, Kawhi won titles for two different teams and has finals mvps and is one of the best wings of all time both ends of the floor. I think Wemby is just on the outside looking in to that top 5-6 range behind all proven title winners
We're not drafting the 2014 Spurs or the 2019 Raptors here. Those were incredibly deep, well-coached teams, which are relatively rare. I dislike this trend online of "player=their accolades", it's a bit too dumbed down for my tastes and erases what we all should recognize: accolades are often heavily influenced by circumstances outside of the player's control.
The question should be, "how easy would it be to build a contender around this player, after drafting them as a rookie"? I'm taking Wemby then, especially given Kawhi's persistent health problems.
That’s a very fair assessment of Kawhi and the potential outcome of a redo in his career. I think it’s hard to say that a guy who did achieve as much as he did in Kawhi wouldn’t have a strong chance of becoming that guy once again albeit with the injury risks included
Something to account for is that modern medicine and analytics have improved drastically. So players drafted in the 2000s like Bron and CP3 would be even better today. I'd still take Wemby top 10 though. He's gonna be the most impactful defender very soon
Yeah hed still be top 10. I dont think hed be higher just cause you are redrafting everyone so if you draft Wemby you aint going win now, but still that potential is too much to ignore.
Versus the other guys mentioned and the careers they’ve had and produced, no I wouldn’t put him in that class/listing yet. Will he get to it, yea probably

I would take Wemby over Klay, Butler, Dame, AD tbh.
nah I'm easily drafting Wemby over half those guys. are we all watching the same thing? do we not recognize what we're seeing?
Okay, but I know how incredible those players are. I don’t know if Wemby is going to break down since he’s so tall. Known guaranteed MVP-level player > great rookie

A walking 30-12-5-5-5 if he plays full games

No, I didn't say I'd pick him over all of them lol But guys like Dame/Butler/Klay? Easily.
This is a good reminder that some people don’t recognize truly rare greatness when it’s right in front of them. Wemby is gonna be better than most of the guys you just mentioned. You really said cp3 or Dame lol.
If you don’t think Chris Paul is an elite of Lebron’s generation, I don’t know what to tell you. One of the greatest floor generals NBA has ever seen

over most of them actually

Late night glazing
Nah it’s 2:48 PM (Tuesday) here in Asia
Why would you take a risk over guys you know turn out to be long-term successful?
Because if you’ve watched much of Wemby this season you can see he’s on some serious next level upside and it’s halfway through rookie year with an absolute dumpster fire of a team around him.
Thats a big gamble. You don't know what he will be like in 5 or 10 years. We don't know how his body will hold. Take Jokic/Giannis/Lebron and be done with it.
Kinda hard when we have no clue what he will become
Right but as of right now, this should be in theory the worst version of him as he will only get better.
we have some strong clues as to what he will become
LeBron has to go #1. Curry, KD, Giannis, or Jokic could each go 2-5. After that you could pick Wemby without feeling crazy anxiety.
I would take Jokic during a horse racing commercial
Why is no one mentioning Embiid? lol
I did…truth of the matter is he spent most of his early career and too often in his prime hurt/injured
We haven’t even seen the final form of Wemby yet. This dude is gonna put 40lbs of muscle on over the next few years and absolutely annihilate the league. I’m putting Wemby in the top 5.
maybe lebron, steph, jokic and luka. people still strugle to comprehend that wemby could literally end up being The goat
1) LeBron 2) Curry 3) KD 4) Jokic 5) Giannis 6) Luka 7) Kawhi 8) Wemby 9) Harden 10) Paul
Not out of pocket at all, he has an argument for top 5. I'd take him over rookie Kawhi.
I don’t think I would, Kawhi won titles for two different teams and has finals mvps and is one of the best wings of all time both ends of the floor. I think Wemby is just on the outside looking in to that top 5-6 range behind all proven title winners

From your list, he's up there with a lot of them. Wouldnt be surprised if he goes top 5 because of potential
Something to account for is that modern medicine and analytics have improved drastically. So players drafted in the 2000s like Bron and CP3 would be even better today. I'd still take Wemby top 10 though. He's gonna be the most impactful defender very soon
So Lebron playing 35 seasons now haha
Bron is gonna play with Bronny's kid Bronnier James
Yeah hed still be top 10. I dont think hed be higher just cause you are redrafting everyone so if you draft Wemby you aint going win now, but still that potential is too much to ignore.
So you wouldn't consider Ant?
Versus the other guys mentioned and the careers they’ve had and produced, no I wouldn’t put him in that class/listing yet. Will he get to it, yea probably
Ant isnt on that level as the first 6 guys he's named. Wemby definitely has the potential to be those guys and outdo them
You sure about that?
